Dwight D. Young
Dwight D. Young, 87, died Friday Dec. 11, 1998 at Hospice Care Center, Akron.
Born May 26, 1911 in Beallsville, Pa. Mr. Young worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. as a Carpenter Supervisor, retiring in 1976. After Mr. Young's declining health, the family wanted to express their appreciation for the many kindness of the Heather Knoll Nursing Home and the Hospice Care Center on Ridgewood Rd. in Akron.
Preceded in death by first wife Doris Hilverding Young who died on May 14, 1955; two brothers, Lloyd Young and Eugene Young. Survivors include his second wife, Beverly Counterman Young whom he married June 18, 1972; also surviving are two daughters, Doris Shank of Akron, Dawna Pitzer of Rochester, Pa.; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Sarah Kubis of Lawrenceville, Ga.; one brother, Edwin E. Young of Waynesburg, Pa.

Elsie C. Young
Elsie C. Young, 81, died unexpectedly Dec. 10, 1998.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. MONDAY at the Billow FALLS Chapel, corner of 23rd and Falls Avenue, with the Rev. Mary Frances Haberkorn officiating. Entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home 1 to 4 p.m. SUNDAY. 

Marie H. Wohlwend
Suffield -- Marie H. Wohlwend,95, formerly of Palm Road, died Saturday, December 12, 1998, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
She was born September 3, 1903 in Suffield to John F. Veronica (Kline) Wohlwend. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Randolph.
Survivors include her sisters, Sr. Mary (Agnes) Verone SND of Chardon and Rita M. Randall of Stow. She was preceded in death by her brothers Joseph, Francis, Carl, John and Martin; and sisters, Catherine and Margaret.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Church in Randolph. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Randolph. Memorial may be made to St. Joseph's Hertiage Fund, 2643 Waterloo Road, Mogadore, OH 44260 

William A. Stevens
William A. Stevens, 72, passed away Dec. 10, 1998.
Mr. Stevens was born in Akron, Ohio on Oct. 15, 1926 to the late Josephine and William Arthur Stevens I. He worked and retired with 43 years of service from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He served in the navy during World War II.
Preceded in death by wife, Marian; sister, Constance Delores Fasick; and brother, Frederick Stevens; he is survived by children, Colleen (Rick) Zito, William (Barbara) Stevens, Charlotte (Tom) Pringle, Rebecca (John) Siciarz, Dawn (Danny) Wehrlin and Joseph Stevens; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and special friend, Rebecca Smith.
Calling hours are Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m. at Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 339 Southwest Ave., Tallmadge. Catherine Freeman Simmons
Catherine Freeman Simmons, 65, went home to be with the Lord Dec. 9, 1998 at St. Thomas Medical Center.
She was born in Milledgeville, Ga., and had lived in this community for 42 years. She was a member of the Gods Church Without Fear, and a mother of the church. She was also a former member of Hills Temple First Born Church.
Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister, and a grandson. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Kenny Simmons Sr.; sons, Bobbie Simmons, Kenny Jr. (Arlene); Bennie Mack (Wynette), and David Simmons all of Akron; daughters, Elvira Simmons of Florida, Mary Lucy, Lavinea, Julia Simmons all of Akron; step-daughters, Betty Jean Davidson, and Joanne Simmons both of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers, Otis Freeman, Eddie Lee, Jim Freeman, Gus Williams, and Freddie Freeman; sister, Sue Tucker of Florida; 26 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday Dec. 15, 1998 at 12 NOON from the Hills Temple First Born Church, 799 S. Arlington St. with Bishop John Thomas officiating and eulogy by Elder Ellis McKinney. Robert F. (Bob) Elgin
Robert F. (Bob) Elgin, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 21, 1998, after a long illness.

Mary A. Shaw
Mary A. Shaw, 74, made her transition from this earthly life on Dec. 8, 1998.
Born in Georgia, she had lived in the Akron community for 47 years. She was retired as a cook for the ABC School for Girls, and a member of St. John CME Church, where she served on Board 1, Ruth Circle, and Missionary Society.
To mourn her passing, she leaves son, Allah Amdua Ali (Billy) of Akron; mother, Mary Daniel; brothers, John Fuller of Akron and Richard Fuller of Chicago, Ill.; sister, Bessie Young of Newark, N.J.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Joseph Russo
Joseph Russo, 76, of Akron, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998.
Mr. Russo was born in Akron on April 14, 1922. A lifelong resident of the Akron area he was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army. He retired in 1984 from Mac Tac Industries as a supervisor, was a member of St. Martha's Catholic Church, VFW Post 1062 of Cuyahoga Falls, Carovillese Club, he was an avid golfer.
He was preceded in death by parents, Michael and Mary Grace, niece, Lisa Sokol; and is survived by sisters, Rae (George) Kuzmik of Akron, Irene (Louis) Palumbo of Akron, Helen DiNuoscio of Cuyahoga Falls, and
MaryJane (Joseph) Sokol of Akron; nine nieces and nephews; 26 great nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, 10 a.m. at St. Martha's Catholic Church. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 936 N. Mira Petkovic
Mira Petkovic, 62, died December 11, 1998.
Born in Mikleus, Yugoslavia, she had been a resident of the Akron area since 1972 and had worked for the Americana Beauty Salon for 17 years. She was an avid gardener and a kind and generous person. She was devoted to her family and cherished her grandchildren.
Mrs. Petkovic is survived by her husband, Pero; son and daughter-in-law, Damir and Robin of Coventry Twp.; daughter and son-in-law, Elvira and Wayne Hudspeth of Conroe, Tx.; grandchildren, Neil, Candice, Richard, Craig, and Eric.
Services will be held 11:00 A.M. MONDAY at the Billow LAKES Chapel, 472 W. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd., (Rte. 619), with The Rev. Dr. Donard M. Engle officiating. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Edith Neal
Uniontown--Edith Neal, 72, a recent stroke victim, went to Jesus' loving arms in 6 days; no pain, no suffering, just to sleep with the Lord on December 12, 1998.
A special thanks to Yvonne & Valerie Becker, Jim Darwen, Linda Townsend, Eileen and Ed Murray, who have prayed and been supportive.
Born in Akron, Mrs. Neal lived most of her life in the area.

Robert W. Myers
Robert W. Myers, 70, of Wyant Rd., Akron died Friday Dec. 11, 1998 in the Wyant Woods Care Center in Akron following an extended illness.
He was born March 31, 1928 in New Franklin to Clifford and Jessie (Watson) Myers. He is a retired heavy equipment operator for the Ohio Department of Transportation and had formerly been a school bus driver and a police officer.
He is survived by daughter, Sarah B. Myers of Akron; three sons, Terry, Larry, and Craig Myers all of Buffalo, NY; aunt, Mrs. Herman (Jeannette) Mishler of Melbourne, Fla.; 10 grandchildren

Floyd Foxy Mitchell, 49, was rocked to sleep in the arms of God Dec. 9, 1998 at the Hospice Care Center
He was born in Akron, and resided in this area most of his life. He was a construction worker for Local 894, and served in the US Army.
He was preceded in death by father, Frank Mitchell Sr.; he leaves to cherish his memories sons, Dante' Walker, and Darius Mitchell; devoted mother, Velma R. Mitchell; brothers, Frank Jr., Randolph (Bicky), Eugene Sr. (Joyce), Dale Mitchell; sisters, Lois (Chester) Davenport of Birmingham, Ala., Shirley (Frankie) Hamilton, Linda Mitchell Ivery, Diane (Raymond) McMillan, Barbara Mitchell; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Leah Jane McNutt, 93, of Wooster, died Thursday Dec. 11, 1998 at Doylestown Health Care Center.
Born in Ashland County she had taught school in the Manchester and Jackson School Systems. She was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church in Wooster.
Preceded in death by husband, Wilfrid Daniel McNutt; surviving are sons, Don (Betty) of Doylestown, Thomas (Peggy) of Orlando, Fla.; daughter, Sarah (Harry) Kinter Caterbury of New Hampshire; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Eunice Kastner of Massachusetts.

Marguerite Lillian Grether Lohr
Northampton - Marguerite Lillian Grether Lohr, 80, a most loving member of the Grether family, passed away December 11, 1998.
Marguerite (Peg) born August 30, 1918 in Akron Ohio was a woman of many talents- her best being a caring mom, grandma, sister, aunt, friend and companion. She was naturally musically inclined, playing the accordian and other instruments and loved to swim, sing, dance and garden. Anyone who ate her good home cooking knew it was some of the best. She resided on a parcel of the original 100 acre Grether farm which she reluctantly sold to Cuyahoga Valley National Park. She was the fourth generation on the land.
Preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Priscilla (Shaffer) Grether; sister, Norma Grether Fiester and brothers, Kenneth, Clyde, Vernon and Ervin. She leaves behind loving and adoring sister, Glenda Mary (Ron) Suggett who Marguerite helped raise; loving sons, Marvin Edward and Gary Wayne Grether of Akron, Mark Allen (Fatima) Grether; grandson Mark Jr. (Amanda) Grether of Jacksonville, Florida and his mom, Jean Gregory; faithful, loving and generous companion, Bud Gosser and his daughter Gloria (Rick) Sines and family; and his son Gary; nieces, Shirley Miller, Jeanne (Bill) Tonkin, Karen Grether, Valerie (Gale) Parry and Lynn (Jerry) Cook; nephews Kenny and Edward (Shelly) Grether, Robert (Becky) Prior, Troy Suggett and many grandnieces, grandnephews and Grether and Shaffer cousins and friends.

Dolores E. Lavery
Dolores E. Lavery, born March 8, 1924, unexpectedly left us to dwell forever in the light of God on Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998.
Dolores was a wonderful mother and homemaker and was a member of The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Margaret Judge Div. and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her loving husband, James, daughters and sons-in-law, Patty Huwig, Theresa and John Naska, Wanda and Joe Burns; sons and daughters-in-laws, Michael, Vincent and Ruth, Thomas and Debbie and Kevin; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward (Lillian) Floto and Charles (Betty) Floto.

Nick Koukies
Nick Koukies, 84, died Friday December 11, 1998 at Windsong Care Center 
He was born in Akron and had been an Akron resident his entire life. He was employed by the Ford Motor Co. for over 25 years retiring in 1971. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation and the Order of the AHEPA. He was a veteran of the Army during WWII.
Mr. Koukies was preceded in death by his wife Pauline in 1981 and brothers Paul and George; and is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law Michael of Mobile, Ala. and George and Ruth of Copley; brother Tom (Dena) Barkoukis of Cleveland; sister Mary Gonis of Akron; grandchildren Derek (Karen), Michael and Joanna; great granddaughter Caitlyn Ann Koukies.
Funeral services will be held Monday 11:00 am at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Entombment Mt. Peace Cemetery. Mr. Jay Lynn Jackson Sr.
Mr. Jay Lynn Jackson Sr., 84, passed away December 9, 1998 at Wyant Wood.
Born in Sale, Ga. he lived in this community for 53 years. He was employed as a rubber worker for the B.F. Goodrich Company, retiring in 1976 after 31 years of service.
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by wife, Lilla Mae and son, Jay Lynn Jr. He is survived by grandchildren, Shirley Loftin and Trent G. Cleghorn, both of Akron; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Patrick N. Houlahan, 64 of Northfield Center, Ohio.
Beloved husband of Joan (nee Scheuerman); loving father of, Patrick (wife Mary) Houlahan of Aurora, Ohio; Dennis Houlahan of Akron, Ohio, Daniel (wife Wendy) of Aurora, Ohio, Michael and Kevin Houlahan of Macedonia, Ohio; beloved grandfather of, Shawn, Corey, Caitlin, Brendan, and Molly; dear son of the late, Maurice and Norma Houlahan; beloved brother of, Maurice Houlahan, Maureen Nomile, Brian Houlahan, Timothy Houlahan, and Mary Iriarte; loved by many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Trooper died Saturday Dec. 12, 1998 at home. MUCH LOVED AND GREATLY MISSED BY ALL.

Delbert G. Hanna
Delbert G. Hanna, 77, of Akron went home to be with the Lord suddenly Dec. 10, 1998.
Delbert was a life long resident of the Akron area, and owner and operator of McMuldren Restaurant for 30 years. He attended Miller Ave. United Church of Christ, and was a member of the American Legion Charles Foust Post 281 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he received the Purple Heart.
Preceded in death by his wife, Christine. He is survived by his sons, Bob (Jane) Hanna of Williamston, Mich. and Delbert Hanna of Cuyahoga Falls; daughter, Sue (Benjamin) Rau of Ocean View, N.J.; grandchildren, Lisa, Cindy, Mike, Holly, Andy, Nick and Pat; six great-grandchildren; special friend, Connie Kasapis of Akron; and special grandchildren, Tony and Nicole Kasapis.

Robert B. Greene
Robert B. Greene, died December 11, 1998 at his home.
Born in Akron, Ohio March 7, 1915 to Ethel (Spira) and Nicholas M. Greenberger, who preceded him in death, as did his brother, Mort Greene of Palm Desert, Calif.
Mr. Greene was president and CEO of the Bron Shoe Company, with which he was affiliated for forty years. Entered the Army of the United States as a private, infantry, January 28, 1941 and rose to the rank of Major, serving in the American, the North African and the Italian/European theaters and was awarded the Bronze star, 3 battle stars and the American Defense medal, honorably discharged January 28, 1946. He was past president of Planned Parenthood of Central Ohio, Laurel Canyon Civic Association and of Winding Hollow Country Club. He served on the Board of the Columbus Rotary Club and the Salvation Army and Employment for Seniors, Inc. His long-time enthusiasm for the theatre and acting led him to Playhouse on the Green, where he was featured for many seasons. He was a member of the Athletic Club of Columbus and a member of Temple Israel for more than 50 years.
Survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis H. Greene; children; Bob and Susan Greene of Chicago, Il., Deborah G. Fulford of Columbus, and Timothy and Caryn Greene of Steamboat Spring, Co.; grandchildren, Maggie Fulford of Los Angeles, Ca., Amanda and Nicholas Green of Chicago, and Tucker and Hannah Greene of Steamboat Springs, Co.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alfred W. and Suzanne Harmon; nieces, Nicki Moffat and Melissa Greene.

Harry W. Goodridge, 63, died Dec. 11, 1998.
He was a life resident of the Barberton area. Preceded in death by parents, Howard and Florence; sister, Martha; and brother, Lester. Survivors are sisters, Doris Phillips, Frances (Harold) Grinder, Carol (Pat) Sauber; brother, Howard A. (Margaret) Goodridge; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Biagio R. Costanzo
Biagio R. Costanzo, 75, left this life to reunite with God on Dec. 4, 1998, in Hawaii, of Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Calabria, Italy, lived in the Akron area for over 30 years, and spent the last 38 years of his life in Hawaii. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as part of the occupation forces in the Pacific Theatre. He was the owner of Costanzo's West Park Barber Shop until 1960 and then, with wife, Edna, the owner of the Princess Kaiulani Hotel Barber Shop until retiring in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosario and Teresa. He leaves behind in this life his beloved wife, Edna Masuyo; loving daughter, Theresa Ann Costanzo; elder brother, Santo (Sam) and wife, Rose; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Marilyn, Fred and Delores; many loving in-laws, nephews, nieces, and dear friends.

Patrick M. Conroy Sr.
TALLMADGE -- Patrick M. Conroy Sr., 49, died December 9, 1998.
Mr. Conroy was a retired lieutenant Naval Officer with United States Navy. He was born in Akron and received a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Troy State University.
He is survived by two daughters, four sons, mother, two sisters, four brothers, and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 339 Southwest Ave. from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, followed by graveside services at 9 a.m. Monday. Lois M. Clyne
WADSWORTH -- Lois M. Clyne (nee McMillen), 72, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at the Hospice Care Center, after a brief illness.
The family will receive friends Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m., at the Hilliard Cox Mullaney Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth, where services will be held Monday, 1 p.m., Rev. Stanley A. Ward officiating. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Wadsworth Church of the Nazarene.

Jennie L. Bortz
Jennie L. Bortz, 81, formerly of Conneaut, died unexpectedly Friday morning at her daughter's residence in Wadsworth, Ohio.
She was born August 20, 1917 in Kingsville, Ohio. The daughter of Felix and Rose (Bartone) Castrilla. She graduated from Conneaut High School in 1935 and worked as a waitress for years at Johnson's Drive-In and also for a time at Fran's Quick Stop and at Castrilla's Corner Store for many years helping her mother. She was a member of the former Altar Rosary Society, the Pythian Sisters, the 35th Club, former President of the Dean Ave. School P.T.A., she also worked the election polls for over 50 years and was a former Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed making Italian specialties and spaghetti for her family. She was also a member of St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mr. Robert (Cheryl) Brecht of Wadsworth, Ohio and Mr. Paul (Janis) Kalil of North Olmstead, Ohio; two sons, Clarence and Jane Bortz of Rome, Ohio and Charlie and Charla Bortz of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Marian Dewey of Ashtabula, and Rosalie and Terry Moisio of Conneaut; four brothers, William and Marie Castrilla of Canfield, Ohio, Jacob and Joyce Castrilla of Madison, Ohio, Joseph and Ann Castrilla, and Felix (Phil) and Irma Castrilla of Conneaut; brother-in-law, Charles Devereaux; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles in 1981, and sister, Irene Deveraux.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, Ohio. Calling hours will be held Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Raisian Funeral Home, A Family Care Group affiliate, 581 Harber St., Conneaut, Ohio. The Catholic Daughters of America will gather for prayer service Monday evening at 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Juvinille Diabetes or the Catholic Charities, with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Garry Adamov
Garry Adamov, 51, went to be with the Lord December 10, 1998 after a very long and courageous battle with cancer.
Survived by his wife of 18 years, Lois; sons, Steven, Michael and David of Akron; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Brian Heard of Akron; granddaughters, Ashley, Melinda, Jessica and Holley. Special thanks to Donnie and Gloria from family.
Memorial service 7:00 P.M., Tuesday at ADAMS-MASON MEMORIAL CHAPEL, (791 E. Market St.). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family, care of Adams Mason Memorial Chapel.
