Densia Lemoyne Hess services held tomorrow

DOWNEY-Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Saturday, June 20) at 11 a.m., at the Downey Zrelak Mortuary Chapel for Densia Lemoyne Hess, a resident of Downey for five and a half years, who died at her home June 13.

She was 89, born May 30, 1909 in Hanover, Illinois, and was formerly of Fullerton. She was a former member of the Lady Lyons of North Long Beach.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, John Wallace Hess; her daughters, Mary L. Licano of Downey, Beverlee Lamoreaux of Orange; a cousin, Karin Bernard of Seal Beach; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

Pastor Gordon Venturella of the First Christian Church of Downey will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Hospice Family Care, Inc., 10642 Downey Ave., Suite 205, Downey, CA 90241.

Jack Duane Rounds remembered by many

SPENCER, Idaho-Jack Duane Rounds, a former Downey resident for more than 20 years and the owner of several retail automotive shops in Southern California, died May 21 near Spencer, Idaho, of injuries sustained in a plane crash.

He was 67, born in Peabody, S.D., Dec. 2, 1930. He married Linda Lee Atwood on July 21, 1959 in Mitchell, Ind.

He raced at the Indianapolis Indy 500 for many seasons.

He was an amateur fighter and skydiver, and piloted and built numerous aircraft.

He loved camping and fishing in the Cache Valley.

Survivors include wife, Linda; his son, Jeff; daughters Lori of Hyde Park and Bec and Merlyn of Southern California; grandchildren Dylan, Justin, Kadie, Bronson, Jessica and Kris; a brother, Robert Rounds of San Diego; four stepbrothers and two stepsisters.

Memorial services were held May 26 in the Cranney Mortuary Chapel in Logan, Idaho.

Friends, family mourn Kathryn C. Peterson

DOWNEY-Graveside services were held at Rose Hills Memorial Park on June 13 for Kathryn C. Peterson, a resident of Downey for 45 years and the former owner (with her husband) of the A.C. Peterson Co. of Downey.

She was 78, born in Lewis, Colorado, and died at a hospital in Encinitas following a long illness. She had moved from Downey to Carlsbad seven years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold C. Peterson.

She was an active member of the PTA for many years here, and the Grace Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Downey.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Thelma Peterson of Downey; her daughter, Susan De Santis of Tustin; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Merna Shipman of Arizona.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janis Mc Pheeters.

Pastor Marvin Jackson of the Grandview Baptist Church officiated. Burial followed at Rose Hills. Arrangements were by the Risher Montebello Mortuary.

Graveside services set for Zula Wade June 25

DOWNEY-Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. June 25 at the Downey Cemetery for Zula Wade, a longtime homemaker, who died May 4 in Oregon.

She was 103, born July 24, 1894 near Lone Rock, Arkansas,, graduated from high school at 15 and attended college in Mt. Home, Arkansas. On graduation she taught school in the Ozarks. Later she taught in Magnum, Oklahoma, then moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she attended nursing school. On graduation she worked at Napa State Hospital in California where she met and married Caleb "Cabe" Wade.

They moved to Downey in the 1920s.

Caleb died when she was 64. When she was 94 she moved to Oregon to be closer to relatives there. She will be buried beside Caleb and her sister in Downey.

Her grandson, the Rev. Jim Smith will officiate.
