CROOKS - An English descriptive name. Someone who was lame or crippled would be referred to as CROCKETT, CROOK(S), CRUM or CRUMP.

TURNER - English occupational name. A "turner" was one of the customary tradesmen who helped sustain a village. To make round objects, such as table legs, then as now, a lathe was required. The man who performed such woodworking was a "TURNER". The name is derived from the Old French "tornour".
