Claude E. 'Joe' Baumberger
GILLETTE - Mass of Christian Burial for Sundance resident Claude "Joe" Baumberger, 66, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Gillette by Fr. Thomas Kadera. Burial will follow in Gillette-Mount Pisgah Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., in Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Gillette.
He died Dec. 7, 2002, at his home, of cancer.
Born April 13, 1936, in Rapid City, S.D., he was the son of Claude and Marie (Relf) Baumberger.
In 1954, he married Bess Cooper. They were the parents of two children, Billy and Keela. His wife preceded him in death in December 1987.
He worked in the construction trade in Rapid City until 1958, when he moved the family to Gillette and started his own construction company. In 1976, he went to work for AMAX Coal Co. as a laborer; and was promoted to a maintenance supervisor in 1980.
Until his retirement in April 2000, he also worked for Cypress and R.A.G. Coal companies. He then moved to Sundance.
On July 5, 1996, he married Carroll Baker in Buffalo.
Survivors include his wife of Sundance; son, Billy Baumberger, and his wife, and daughter, Keela Eddy, both of Gillette; four grandsons; two great-grandsons; two stepchildren, Victor and Valerie Brownell; five step-grandchildren; parents of Black Hawk, S.D.; two sisters, Betty Gilland of Piedmont, S.D., and Lola Goodale of Chesterfield, S.C.;and brother, Bob Baumberger, and his wife of Rapid City.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a step-granddaughter.

Linda Lee Reed
CASPER - Funeral services for Mills resident Linda Lee Reed, 58, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory by Pastor Ellis Kaster. Interment will be in Wyoming Memorial Gardens.

She died Dec. 7, 2002.
Born Sept. 1, 1944, in Salem, Ill., she married James Reed on April 26, 1982.
The couple owned and operated All-Out Fire in Mills.
She was a member of the Moose Lodge and was active in baking and decorating for the Eagles and Veterans of Foreign Wars as well. A generous and caring person, she loved children and spending time helping her friends and family. One of her favorite pastimes was hostessing holiday lunches for friends.
She was a special caregiver for her mother and mother-in-law.
Survivors include her husband of 20 years of Mills; mother, Peggy Bennett; brother, Lonnie Kindel; two sons, Jerry and Louis Dunning; two daughters, Laura and Kathy; and two stepsons, Brett and Mark Reed.

Jeffrey Todd Hereford
MOUNTAIN VIEW - Funeral services for Mountain View resident Jeffrey Todd Hereford, 37, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Mountain View Gymnasium. Interment will be in Fort Bridger Cemetery, followed by a luncheon in the Mountain View High School cafeteria.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in MVHS commons area and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
He died Dec. 8, 2002, with his wife at his side, after a courageous six-year battle with pancreatic cancer. His last hours were spent with family and friends.
Born June 13, 1965, in Moses Lake, Wash., he lived in Riverton then moved to Rock Springs, where he was raised and educated through half of eighth grade. He then moved to Lyman and graduated from Lyman High School in 1983. Nominated all-state defensive back linebacker in 1982 and 1983, he scored the only touchdown that earned LHS the state championship.
He attended Central Wyoming College, and Chadron, S.D., State College, where he played football; and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor degree. After student-teaching in Thermopolis, he began his teaching and coaching careers in Mountain View.
In 1991 and 1992, he coached middle-school football in Mountain View and, in 1993, began coaching football as the defensive coordinator at MVHS. In his 12 years there, the team played in six state championship games. He also coached middle-school wrestling for nine of the last 11 years. In 1993, he began coaching the MVHS track team.
On July 29, 1995, he married Donna Renee McCreary in Lyman.
He loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, golfing, teaching and coaching.
Survivors include his wife and four children, Kalvin Joseph, 6 1/2, Dalton Jeffrey, 4 1/2, and twins Lyndee JoLene and Haylee JeNae, 1 1/2, all of Mountain View; parents, Joseph William and Lilleane Marie Hereford of Fort Bridger and Russell Leon Schaidt of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; two brothers and their wives, Kipp Hereford of Fort Bridger and Robb Hereford of Mesa, Ariz.; sister, Michelle Getty of Lyman; father-in-law and mother-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

James 'Jim' Raymond McKinley
CASPER - A celebration of life for Casper resident James "Jim" Raymond McKinley, 74, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Paradise Valley Christian Church by Pastors Al Allen and Larry Berlin. Cremation will have taken place and interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
He died Dec. 7, 2002, at Wyoming Medical Center, of cancer.
Born April 28, 1928, in Gering, Neb., he was the son of Marvin C. and Zelia H. (Truckenmiller) McKinley.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marines from 1945 to 1947. After his retirement from the Merchant Marines, he moved from Portland, Ore., to Casper.
On Dec. 10, 1949, he married Patsy Murphy in Casper.
He worked for Texaco for 35 years, retiring in Gonzales, La., in 1984. From 1984 to 1994, he was a contract consultant for oil refineries.
Known for his selflessness and compassion, he enjoyed being with loved ones, especially children; spending time outdoors and at his cabin on Casper Mountain; fishing; camping; and square-dancing.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years of Casper; sister, Joy Lofing of Grand Island, Neb.; daughter, Jaci (McKinley) Krucheck, and her husband of Gillette; son, Richard McKinley, and his wife of Billings, Mont.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; a niece; and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roland McKinley.

Ettie Margaret Martin
EVANSTON - Funeral services for Evanston resident Ettie Margaret Martin, 83, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Evanston North Stake Center, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will be in Evanston City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston.
She died Dec. 8, 2002, in Evanston.
Born Feb. 22, 1919, in Hilliard, she was the daughter of Amelia Hopkinson and Joseph Bates and her mother's ninth child of 10. She attended school in Hilliard and graduated from high school a year early.
On Dec. 26, 1939, she married Lawrence "Larry" Martin at her mother's home in Hilliard. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Utah Temple on Aug. 3, 1985.
She took classes and became a registered dietitian, working at the Wyoming State Hospital for 17 years and the Uinta County Hospital for 10 years. She retired at age 62.
An active member of the LDS Church, she served in Primary and Cub Scouts and regularly attended the temple. The highlight of her life was her mission as an ordinance worker in the Washington, D.C., Temple in 1991 and 1992.
An outgoing and fun-loving person, she loved to entertain and was an excellent cook. She and her husband were great hosts and opened their home to those in need. Her favorite activity was dancing; she never missed an opportunity to dance the night away.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, Joan Nixon of St. George, Utah, Larry Jay Martin of Lake Point, Utah, and Tony Reed of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Evelyn Hanson, and her husband of Ogden, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, six brothers, two sisters and a great-granddaughter.

Born Aug. 12, 1948, in Grants Pass, Ore., she was the daughter of Frederick William and Esther Louise (Volkmer) Wright.
On Sept. 25, 1969, she married Rick Gemmell in Hawaii.
She loved quilting and riding horses.
Survivors include her husband of 33 years of Glenrock; son, Eric Gemmell, and his wife of Salt Lake City; daughter, Valerie Tierney, and her husband of San Diego; brother, Stuart Wright, and his wife of Oregon; and sister, Karen Dailey, and her husband of Salmon, Idaho.

Daniel Lee Gulley (Schuler)

He died Dec. 7, 2002 at Central Wyoming Hospice Home after a long struggle with brain cancer.
Born the Oct. 23, 1961 in Scottsbluff, Neb., he was the son of Darrel Ray "Joe" and Faye Gulley. He was raised in Casper and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1980.
He worked for McMurray Brothers, the Natrona County School District, and Power Resources. In 1993, he married LaRee Morgan.
He coached Little League Baseball, T-ball, and soccer. He loved working with children and enjoyed playing softball and wallyball. He was a Cub Master for Pack 147 and Scoutmaster for Troop 167. He was also a Girl Scout Leader with his wife.
Hobbies included camping, hunting, hiking and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and children and making things from scrapwood.
Survivors include his wife, LaRee; six children, Andrea, Jared, Shiloh and Colton Percy and Nicole and Christopher Schuler; his mother and step-father Faye and Ray Nash; his father, Darrel Gulley; one brother, Gordon Schuler; two sisters, Torrie Humbel and Connie Frieson; and numerous aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother.

Esther L. Smith

Born Oct. 24, 1912 In Brainerd, Minn., she was the daughter of Gustav A. and Emily P. (Jung) Krueger. Graduating from Natrona County High School, she resided in Casper since the 1920s.
On Feb. 7, 1937, she married Clarence "Jerry" Smith. She was employed by the US Bureau of Reclamation for 21 years. An active member of First Baptist Church, she enjoyed sewing and painting.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and four sisters.

Anna P. Cross

Born Oct. 11, 1902 at Eustis, Neb., she was the daughter of Christ and Caroline (Smith) Gaibler. She graduated from Eustis High School in 1922. On March 20, 1923, she married Leslie M. Cross.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, church circle #4, Eastern Star Naomi Chapter #2, and the Women's club. She also volunteered for many causes and enjoyed her home and working in her yard and garden.
Survivors include her son H. Duane Cross of New Orleans; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Katherine B. Edwards

She died Dec. 6, 2002 at her home.
Born Feb. 13, 1911 in Laramie, she was the daughter of Edwin and Annie (Cameron) Baily. She grew up on ranch near Centennial, where she was active in 4-H.
She graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Home Economics. She taught school and was later an Extension Agent for UW. On June 15, 1946, she married Everett Edwards.
An active volunteer for the Cub Scouts and Brownies, she also served on the Boards of American Association of University Women and the Northern Wyoming Community College. She was also a member of the Sheridan Book Club, P.E.O. and the First Congregational Church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and crocheting.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathryn Spears of Sheridan; a son, James Smith of Las Vegas; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Edwards; a brother, Joel Edwards; and a sister, Susan Morgan.

Jeanette Heptner

Born March 1, 1920, she was the daughter of Frank and Laura (Young) Heptner. She grew up on the family homestead near Rozet. She graduated from Campbell County High in 1939.
A school teacher in Campbell County for several years, she graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1951 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She later earned a Master's from Nebraska State Teacher's College. She taught third grade at Gertrude Burns Elementary School from 1954 until her retirement in 1977.
A member of many clubs and organizations, she served as a Noble grand in the Jewel Rebekah Lodge #28 in Gillette. She was also a member of the Theta Chapter Society International, the Stitch and Skillet Homebuilders Club, and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include four nieces, Darlene Heptner and Shirley Prazma, both of Gillette, and Lorna and Olive Whisler of Natural Bridge; one nephew, Darrel Heptner of Rozet; nine grand-nieces and nephews; and numerous great-grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Laura Heptner; four brothers, Eugene, Oscar, Walter and Wallace Heptner; and two sisters, Irene and Leona Heptner.

Carl Edward Pedersen
LANDER - Graveside funeral services, with military rites, for Lander resident Carl Edward Pedersen, 76, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander, by the Rev. Gene Hagerman of First United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from noon to service time in the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home, in Lander.
He died Dec. 4, 2002, at Lander Valley Medical Center.
Born March 10, 1926, in Cozad, Neb., he was the son of Jens L. and Anna Marie (Jensen) Pedersen; and was raised and educated in Cozad.
He drove a truck for different companies until being drafted into the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. After his discharge, he returned to the states and worked as a truck driver for Canada Oil and in the oil fields in Nebraska and Wyoming.
In 1965, he moved to Lander and worked for U.S. Steel until it closed in 1985.
He married Irene Kool on April 30, 1966.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working in his garden.
Survivors include his stepson, Bruce Kool of Riverton; and six siblings, Ben Pedersen and Sylvia Hinkle, both of Los Angeles, Jim Pedersen of Needles, Calif., Richard Pedersen of North Platte, Neb., Jack Pedersen and his wife of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Willard Pedersen and his wife of St. Paul, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Lee; a sister, Jewel; and parents.

Anastacio Ortega
CASPER - Services for Casper resident Anastacio Ortega, 75, will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church by Fr. Michael Carr. Burial will be in Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, with military honors accorded by the United Veterans Council of Natrona County.
Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory.
He died Dec. 3, 2002, at Wyoming Medical Center.
Born Jan. 20, 1927, in Las Vegas, N.M., he was the son of Rudolfo and Manuelita (Torres) Ortega; and was raised and educated in New Mexico.
During World War II, he served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army.
He moved to Wyoming in 1949 and Casper in 1969.
On Aug. 15, 1954, he married Betty Trujillo in Douglas.
He retired from Pepper Tank in 1989.
A member of St. Anthony's Church, he was a baseball player for many years and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and traveling.
Survivor include his wife Betty Coulter of Casper; six children, Joe, Emma, Sandra, Ernie, Larry and Ron; three brothers and three sisters, Rose, Nash, Richard, Raymond, Maria and Tarzan; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joseph Amos Santistevan
EVANSVILLE - Memorial services for Evansville resident Joseph Amos Santistevan, 85, will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday in Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville by Deacon Don Stewart. Military rites will be accorded by the United Veterans Council of Natrona County. Cremation has taken place.
Vigil for the Deceased will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bustard's Funeral Home and Crematory.
He died Dec. 4, 2002, at his home, following a lengthy illness.
Born July 28, 1917, in Costilla, N.M., he was the son of Jose P. and Gavina (Martinez) Santistevan. In 1925, he came to Wyoming.
Later, he moved to Douglas and worked at Morton's Ranch.
From 1942 to 1945, he served in the U.S. Air Force in Washington, D.C.
In 1954, he married Nona A. Johnson in Casper.
For a number of years, he worked for different masonry companies in Casper and then was self-employed until his retirement.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed the outdoors and watching golf.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years; three daughters, Peggy Elston and Tammy Wright and their families of Casper and Linda Santistevan of Las Vegas; son, Gregory J. and family of Tulsa, Okla.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Della Ortiz of Casper and Lucinda Flores of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
