Roma D. Summerfield, 54, of 120 Sunset Drive, Elkins, passed away Wednesday
morning, July 10, 2002, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 9, 1947, in Harrisville, W.Va., a daughter of Juanita
E. Cunningham who survives in Harrisville and the late Kenneth O. Cunningham.
She was twice married. First to Bradley Sanders, a son of B. Sherwood and
Lois Sanders of Elkins. He preceded her in death in 1995. On March 8, 1997,
she married Roger K. Summerfield who survives in Elkins. Also surviving
are two daughters, Tara R. Thorpe and Kristen B. Sanders, both of Elkins;
one stepson, Doug Summerfield, of Beverly; one stepdaughter, Amy Roberts,
of Morgantown, W.Va.; two brothers, Kenneth Cunningham and Larry Cunningham,
both of Harrisville; two sisters, Florence Poe of Raleigh, N.C., and Estella
McDonald of Harrisville.

Daisey Mae Vincent, 90, of the Arbors of Marietta, died July 9, 2002,
at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 17, 1912, in Rush Run, Ohio, a daughter of the late
Edward E. and Mary Edna Wayt. She was a homemaker and a member of the North
End Church of Christ.

COOLVILLE - Robert Lee Barber, 56, of Coolville, Ohio, died Tuesday,
July 9. 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg.
He was born Feb. 11, 1946, in Coolville, a son of Helen Burkhammer
Kaylor of Tuppers Plains and the late Walter Barber. He was a self-employed

Jeffery "Scott" Deem, 43, of Sandyville, W.Va., died July 8, 2002,
at Charleston Area Medical Center General Division. He was born in Marietta,
a son of Ab Deem and Fay Hogsett Deem.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Deem; one daughter, Autumn Rea Deem;
and one son, Jeremiah Deem, all of Sandyville, W.Va.; one sister, Kathy
Deweese of Vienna; two brothers, Rodney and Steve Deem, both of Parkersburg;

Martha S. O. Dodd
Martha Sophia Olson Dodd, 92, died Monday July 8, 2002, at Elizabeth
House Hospice in Flat Rock, N.C., after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Anaconda, Mont., and was a resident of Spencer, W.Va.,
for 61 years. She was the wife of the late Chester Dodd, a noted Spencer

Harold W. Morris, 81, of Sistersville died July 9, 2002.

William Callow Sprouse Sr., 81, of Parkersburg died July 9, 2002, at

He was born April 21, 1921, in Wood County, a son of the late Franklin
and Agnes Callow Sprouse.
Marama Jane Clarkson, 73, of Valdese, N.C., died July 6, 2002.

James Leon Cooper, 81, of Parkersburg died July 8, 2002.
He was born in Eatons, W.Va., a son of the late James S. and Susanna
James Florence Sr.
He worked with the W.Va. Department of Highways, roadside service division
for 10 years. During World War II he was a flight instructor and later
served as Wood County Magistrate from 1984-1988. He was a member of the
Gihon United Methodist Church.
Agnes Fultineer, 93, of Marietta died July 8, 2002.
She is survived by her husband, Theodore Fultineer of Marietta; two
sons, C. Theodore Fultineer of Lancaster, Pa., and Richard Fultineer of
Harry L. Garretson, 77, of Hale Center, Texas, died July 5, 2002.
Survivors include one son, Jay Garretson and his wife, Leah of Lubbock,
Texas; one daughter, Claudia West and her husband, Rick, of Hale Center;
one sister, Virginia "Jinky" Duskey of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five grandchildren,
Kale, Clay, Marci Garretson and Randall and Andrew West.
Harold L. Medley
Harold L. Medley, 84, of Belmont, W.Va., died July 8, 2002, at St.
Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg.
He was born April 10, 1918, in New Martinsville, W.Va., a son of the
late Albert Leroy and Elva Hoskins Medley. He was member of the Akron Baptist
Temple, he attended Romney School for the deaf, he worked for the Firestone
Rubber Company in Akron for 35 years, and he enjoyed golf and baseball.

In addition to his wife, Carrie, he is survived by four children, Wilma
(Odell) Fields of McKee, Ky., Larry (Nellie) Price of Manchester, Ky.,
Jane (Robert) Wiseman of Irvine, and Herman (Carlen) Price of Richmond,
Ky.; one daughter-in-law, Helen Price of Irvine; 17 grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Marcina Carolyn Spindler, 85, of Marietta died July 8, 2002, at the
Arbors in Marietta.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ellen Huling, and Carolyn Corbett;
and one son, Kenneth Spindler.
Lawrence E. "Buck" Buchanan, 76, of Parkersburg, passed away July 6,
2002 at the Willows Nursing Home.
He was born March 23, 1926 in Wirt County, a son of the late David
C. and Anna Dowler Buchanan. He was a U. S. Army veteran and had taken
part in the Manhatten Project that ended World War II. He had received
his BA degree from Glenville State College in 1951. He had taught at Wirt
County High School from 1951-1954, he worked for FMC for 16 years and he
retired from Bonded Oil Emro Marketing after 12 years of service. He was
a Protestant by faith and he loved to hunt and fish.
Alvy Hadley, 92, of Middlebourne died July 6, 2002.
He is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Roberts of Middlebourne,
Edna Mills of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Norma Jean Sowers of Washington,
Pa.; one sister, Zelma Watson of Middlebourne; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.

SALEM - Mabel V. Hill, 93, of Parkersburg, formerly of the Big Flint
area, died at 7:55 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2002, at a private home in Vienna,
W.Va., following an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 30, 1908, in Big Flint, a daughter of the late Selathia
and Orpha Underwood Gain. Her husband, Wayne Hill, died in 1973.

He was born June 25, 1942, a son of the late Aubrey L. and Pearl Maxwell
Golden. He was a truck driver and the Co-Founder of Helping Hands C.B.
Club and he was a member of the Moose Lodge 1118.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Stump Funeral Home
in Arnoldsburg. Interment will be in the Sand Ridge Cemetery with military
graveside rites being provided by American Legion Post 21 of Spencer. Friends
may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Friday until the hour of services.

James E. Branam
James E. "Jim" Branam, 60, of Vienna died Thursday, July 4, 2002, at
Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 6, 1942, in Camp, Ark., a son of the late James E.
and Mary Newberry Branam. He was retired after 30 years of service from
Ohio Valley College as manager of Powell Apartments and was a member of
the Belpre Church of Christ where he served as a deacon.
Paul Feldmeier Sr.
Paul Francis Feldmeier Sr., 91, of South 4th Avenue, Paden City, W.Va.,
died July 4, 2002, at his residence.
Paul was born Jan. 25, 1911, in Paden City, a son of the late Robert
S. and Anna Zisterer Feldmeier. He was a salesman for Realsilk Company
and a former employee of Lawrence Glass Novelty of Sistersville. In 1935
he began his career with the Paul Wissmach Glass Company of Paden City
where he became plant manager in 1947 and later served as secretary and
treasurer of the company. Upon his retirement from Wissmach Glass on 1976,
he continued as an advisor and officer of the company. He was a member
of the Stained Glass Association of America, the American Ceramic Society
for over 50 years and the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church of Paden City.

Ralph Earl Smith
ELIZABETH - Wirt County's first state conservation officer, Mr. Ralph
Earl Smith, 82, of Mineral Wells passed away Sunday morning, July 7, 2002,
at his residence.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 16, 1920, in Roanoke, Lewis County, W.Va.,
a son of the late John Jackson and Mary Luverne Weaver Smith. He was the
first state conservation officer in Wirt County having retired in 1980
as sergeant from the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources with
more than 32 years of service with more than 23 years dedicated to service
in Wirt and Wood counties. He was a graduate of the West Virginia State
Police Academy and served as a U.S. Deputy Game Warden with the U.S. Department
of the Interior. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served
with the 135th ordinance maintenance battalion of the 13th armory division
and was past commander of American Legion Post 55 of Elizabeth. He was
past master of Wirt Lodge 82 AF & AM and a 38 year member of the Scottish
Rite of Parkersburg. He was a member of the Wirt Chapter 113, Order of
the Eastern Star and United Methodist by faith.
