Henry ''Hank'' Sall, 74, of Cadiz, Ohio, formerly of Annapolis, Ohio,
died Friday, July 19, 2002 at Harrison Community Hosptial, Cadiz.He was
born May 20, 1928 in Belmont County, Ohio, a son of the late Andrew and
Anna Sall.
He was a retired teacher at Steubenville Big Red High School and a
retired Carptenter for Local 186 in Steubenville.He was a former member
of Red Oaks Country Club, Cadiz Country Club, the American Legion and the
Retired Teacher Association.He was an Air Force Veteran who participated
in the Berlin Airlift.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife,
Mary Shuman Sall in 1977; 6 brothers, John, Andy, Joe, Ed, Walter and Tom
Sall; and one sister, Elizabeth Rybkoski.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly Stamm Sall; 3 sons, Rich (wife, Marriann)
Sall of Arizona, Bob Sall, Cambridge, T.A. Sall (wife, Audra), Cadiz; 3
step-children, Bob (wife, Patsy), Georgia; Karen (husband, George) LaCross,
Cadiz, and Judy (husband, Willie) Carmen of Hopedale; 2 grandchildren;
7 step grandchildren; 1 brother Stanley Sall, Michigan; 2 sisters, Helen
HcGilton, Belmont, OH and Katherine Ryan, Shadyside, OH.

Emery Gene DeVault
Emery Gene DeVault, 76, of Conover, North Carolina, formerly of Cadiz,
Ohio, died Thursday, February 6, 2003 at Catawba Valley Medical Center,
Conover, North Carolina. He was born February 7, 1926 in Bridgeport, Ohio,
a son of the late Clyde F. and Nellie Oliver DeVault.
He was a member of the East Warren Street Church of Christ in Cadiz,
and was a retired Machinist for the former Hanna Coal Company in Cadiz.
He was Marine Corps Veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and
three sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Nellie Grace McKibben DeVault; a daughter,
Patricia and her husband Mark Kidd of Conover, NC; two grandsons, Jonathan
Kidd and Gregory Kidd; and two great grandsons, Justin Kidd and Joshua
Kidd.

Keith Allen Barnhart
Keith Allen Barnhart, 38, of Columbus, formerly of Cadiz, died Thursday,
February 6, 2003 at his home in Columbus. He was born July 26, 1964 in
Wheeling, West Virginia, a son of Ted Barnhart of Zanesville, Ohio and
the late Penny Griffiths Barnhart.
He was an employee of Gilson Construction Co. in Columbus and an avid
fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Nascar driver, Dale Earnhart.
Surviving are a brother Sam Barnhart of Johnson City, Tennessee; 2
sisters, Debra Evans of Columbus and Shelly Whitman of Columbus; and several
nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Commella Mae McKinney Cutshall
Commella Mae McKinney Cutshall, 90, Cadiz, died Friday, January 31,
at Carriage Inn of Cadiz. She was born October 15, 1912 in Adena, Ohio
a daughter of the late William McKinney and Dessie Wease McKinney.
Commella was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Grove Apostolic
Church.
She was preceded in death in addition to her parents, by her husband
John Elmer Cutshall in 1998; 2 sisters: Cora Mull and Cleoda Maxwell Bennett;
and 3 brothers: Alvin, Clarence, and Art McKinney.

Clinton Robert Smith
Clinton Robert Smith, 86, Wooster, formerly of Cadiz, died Thursday,
January 30, at his home in Wooster, Ohio. He was born October 5, 1916 in
Mt. Plesant, Ohio a son of the late Emmett Smith and Nora Waller Smith.
Mr. Smith was a member and Bishop at the Hands of Grace United Pentecostal
Church in Wooster and also a member of Harrison Hills United Pentecostal
Church, Jewett. He was a retired shovel operator for Consolidation Coal
Company in Cadiz.
He was preceded in death in additon to his parents by his wife, Muriel
McMannis Smith in 2001; 4 brothers: Martin, Joseph, Emmett, and Clarence
Smith; and 2 sisters: Cora Reams and Eunice Reams.
Surviving are a son, Robert Smith and his wife Jeri of Columbus; a
daughter, Vivian Pickering and her husband Thomas of Evansville, Indiana;
9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Smith of
Harrisville, Ohio.

David V. Birney, 48, Scio, died Tuesday at Harrison Community Hospital,
Cadiz. He was born August 21, 1953 in Dennison, Ohio a son of David L.
Birney and wife Judy of Cadiz and Shelva Davis Birney Palmer and husband
Robert of Tappan Lake, Ohio.
He attended Roxford United Methodist Church
and was a self employed contractor.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents,
Lawrence and Marian Birney; and maternal grandparents, Hartzell and Mary
Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Finnie Birney;
2 brothers: Greg Birney of Arizona and Scott Birney and his wife Patty
of Dennison; a sister, Laurie Willing and her husband Bill of Alabama;
his mother in law, Helen Finnie, New Philadelphia; and a brother in law,
Tom Finnie and his wife Sharon of Dover.
Graveside service will be held Thursday, December
27 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Church Cemetery, Tappan Lake, with Rev.
Henry Mooney officiating.

James Bertz
James Bertz, 91, of Cadiz, died Sunday, March 17, 2002 at Trinity Medical
Center, West, Steubenville, Ohio. He was born October 6, 1910 in
Ramsey, Ohio a son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Torok Bertz.
He was a member of Scott United Methodist Church in Cadiz and was a
retired Coal Miner, having worked at the Goodyear Mine and Nelms #1 Mine
for Y. & O. Coal Co.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers,
Steve, Elmer and Theodore Bertz; and by 3 sisters, Mary Bertz Williams,
Irene Mihalco and Elizabeth Rodich.
Surviving are his wife, Agnes Sickle Bertz, 2 sons, Dr. Michael Bertz
and his wife Carol, of Denver, CO and Dr. James Bertz and his wife, Sandy,
of Scottsdale, AZ; 6 grandchildren, Michael, Krista, James, Robert, Stephen
and Jennifer; 2 great grandchildren, Ashley and Alexandria and 1 sister,
Mrs. John (Margaret) Tabacchi.

Theodore Bertz
Theodore Bertz, 88, of Cadiz, Ohio died Wednesday, January 30, 2002
at Trinity Medcial Center, West, Steubenville, Ohio He was born on January
30, 1914 at Ramsey, Ohio a son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Torok
Bertz.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Verna
J. Howes Bertz; his daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and David Cessna of
Waynesville, Ohio; his son and daughter-in-law, Theodore and Judy Parlett
Bertz of South Glastonbury, CT; several grandchildren, Christen Lea Bertz
Goldberg, Durham, CT; Dawn Elizabeth Bertz Droskoski, E. Hampton, CT; Catherine
Elsie Bertz Kesten Middletown, CT; Jill Elizabeth Cessna Kaufmann, Columbus,
Ohio; Jennifer Lynn Cessna McCann, Columbus, Ohio; Michael David Cessna,
Columbus, Ohio; two great grandchildren, Brenna Mae Goldberg, Durham, CT;
Alexander David McCann, Columbus; and several nieces and nephews throughout
the country.
Mr. Bertz was preceded in death by his sisters:
Irene Mihalco, Mary Williams, and Elizabeth Rodich; and brothers Steve
and Elmer Bertz, all of Cadiz. He is survived by a brother James Bertz
and his wife Agnes of Cadiz and a sister, Mrs. John (Margaret) Tabacchi,
also of Cadiz.
He was a man of many interests ranging from
athletics to the artistic. He was an accomplished athlete in his youth
and was responsible for organizing and managing the Hanna Hornets Baseball
Team in the UMWA League. A member of the Hungarian Club in Martins Ferry
and an avid golfer and baseball fan, he was also well known for his umpiring
baseball throughout the Ohio Valley. His artistic ability can still be
seen through the various signs in and around Cadiz.
He worked at Consolidation Coal Company as
a machinist for over 40 years. Mr. Bertz was active in union business for
seventy years and served in many capacities from local secretary to international
auditor. His leadership played a major role in union reorganization during
the early seventies. He and his wife Verna also owned and operated the
former Gabletown Restraunt in Cadiz where he also served as a village councilman.

2nd at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. William Hudson officiating. Burial will follow

Charles Lemuel Barker
Charles Lemuel Barker, 97, of Avon Park, Florida, formerly of Cadiz,
died Friday in Florida. He was born November 18, 1903 in West Virginia
a son of the late W.L. and Ida Hall Barker.
He was a member of the East Warren Street Church
of Christ in Cadiz and was a retired employee of Hannah Coal Company, Cadiz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his
wife, Stella Belle Carson Barker in May of 1986; 3 Brothers: Archie John
Barker, Tom Barker, and James Albert Barker; and 4 sisters: Ora Dickinson,
Lee Moran, Lou Stevens, and Mae Kreidler.
He is survived by a son, Bob of Avon Park;
2 daughters: Mrs. Dwain (Dorothy) Derrick of Avon Park and Mrs. Marvin
(Doris) Abston of Sarasota, Florida; 11 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren;
3 Great Great Granchildren; and a sister, Irene Laughlin of Salem, Ohio.

Robert M. Bailie
Robert M. Bailie, 76, of Cadiz, died Monday, July 8, 2002 at Harrison
Community Hospital, Cadiz. He was born November 26, 1925 in Brilliant,
Ohio, a son of the late Robert James and Inez McIntire Bailie.
He was a retired Ohio State Game Protector, having served in Harrison
County for thirty years. He attended the Scott United Methodist Church,
and was a WW II Veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was a member of
the Sally Buffalo Park Board and the Cadiz American Legion and a former
member of the Cadiz Country Club. He wrote the weekly column, Around
Home for the Freeport Press and the Harrison News-Herald in the 1960's
and 1970's.
Surviving are his wife, Jackie Bothe Bailie; 3 daughters, Brooke (husband,
Craig) Bovenizer, Cadiz, Shawn (husband, Paul) Kovacik, Olathe, KS, and
Drue (husband, Greg) Barezinsky, Worthington, OH; 5 grandchildren: Luke,
Brittany and Shelby Bovenizer; Joseph and Bailie Forte; 5 step grandchildren:
Rachel and Krista Barezinsky; Tisa Cerminara; Kalyn and Joe Kovacik; 1
sister, Beverly McCafferty and 1 brother, George Bailie, both of Montana;
and Dee Ruckman, Cadiz and Danny Willoughby, Weirton.
Friends may call Wednesday, July 10, 2002 from 2-4 AND 7-9 P.M. at
Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home. A private service will be held at the
convenience of the family.

Harry Wilson Bailey
Harry Wilson Bailey, 80, of Oak Park, Cadiz, died Monday, October 29,
at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, Ohio.
He was born August 2, 1921 in Harrison County,
a son of the late Oscar Price Bailey and Mary Martha Thompson Bailey.
He was the former Sheriff of Harrison County
and a retired Assistant County Superintendent of ODOT in Harrison County
and a member of Scott United Methodist Church, Cadiz.
He was member of the Cadiz Lions Club and
a 32 year member of the Harrison County Democratic Central Committee.
In addition to his parents he was preceded
in death by his first wife, Helen Sickle Bailey in 1995; two brothers,
Arthur and Leo; two sisters, Mary Kellar and Anna Mattern; two infant sisters
and an infant brother.
Surviving are his wife, Inez Ankrom Wilson
Evans Bailey; two brothers, Ernest E. Bailey of Jewett and William Raymond
Bailey, Cadiz; a stepson, Cliff Wilson of Fleming, GA; three stepgrandchildren;
six step great grandchildren.

Grandma Mary J. Atkins
Grandma Mary J. Atkins, 89, of Hopedale, OH, died Saturday, January
12, 2002 at Trinity Medical Center, West, Steubenville, OH. She was
born July 27, 1912 near Cadiz, Ohio, the eldest of the fifteen children
of Clyde and Helen Greer Dunlap.
She was a retired cook and baker at the Blue Star Restaurant in Cadiz
and at Cadiz Country Club; a member of the Harrison Hills United Pentecostal
Church near Jewett; a member and past president of the Hopedale American
Legion Auxiliary; a charter member of the Hopedale Volunteer Fire Department
Auxiliary; and the Hopedale American Legion Citizen of the Year 1975.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband
William Henry Atkins in 1987. They married February 16, 1929.
Also by a son, William Arthur Atkins; an infant daughter; two grandchildren;
5 brothers, Roy, John, James, Clifford and Floyd Dunlap; 6 sisters, Elizabeth
Snyder, Leonda Leggett, Mildred Decaminada, Edith Leggett, Mable Dunlap,
and Shirley Sterlilng.
Surviving are 3 sons, Jack (Pat) Atkins, Donald (Sharon) Atkins and
Andy (Sue) Atkins, all of Hopedale; 4 daughters, Hannah Saxton, of Zanesville,
Dorothy (Harold) Wickliff, Jewett, Marjorie (James) Ward, Hopedale, and
Mary Beth (Brian) Hanlon, Alabama; 3 brothers, Rev. Chant Dunlap, Virginia,
David Dunlap, Cadiz, and Lloyd Dunlap, Zanesville; a special friend Mistia
Mae Darios, Hopedale; 30 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; 24 great

Beverly J. Atkins
Beverly J. Atkins, 64, of Hopedale, Ohio, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001
at Trinity Medical Center, West, Steubenville, Ohio. She was born
June 18, 1937 in Harrison County, Ohio, a daughter of the late James Franklin
and Iva Beaver Thompson. She was a Protestant by faith and a member
of the Hopedale Firemen's Auxillary and the Hopedale American Legion Auxillary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
William Arthur (Art) Atkins in 1985.
Surviving are a daughter, Shera (Sis) Carothers (Dave) of Hopedale;
5 sons, James (Ed) Atkins (Korene Morelli) of Hopedale, William Atkins
(Linda) of Cadiz, Kenneth Atkins (Carol) of Hopedale, Richard Atkins (Cindy)
of Hopedale and Dana Atkins (Lisa) of Cadiz; 13 grandchildren; 2 great

Donald Harrison Adrian
Donald Harrison Adrian, 85, Cadiz, died Wednesday at Harrison Community
Hospital, Cadiz. He was born March 14, 1916 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania a
son of the late Chester E. and Florence Harrison Adrian.
He was a long time resident of the Harrison
County Home, Cadiz.
He is survived by several cousins.
Graveside serivce will be held on Friday,
February 1, at 11:00 a.m., at Harrison County Home Cemetery with Rev. Charles
Mehl officiating.
John Thomas Adams
John Thomas Adams, 57, of Cadiz, Ohio formerly of Deersville, Ohio,
died Sunday, February 24, 2002 at his home, following a battle with Lou
Gehrig's Disease. He was born August 21, 1944 in Nottingham Twp.,
Harrison Co., Ohio, a son of the late Clinton R. and Elda Vern Poulson
Adams.
He was member and Trustee of the Deersville United Methodist Church.
He owned Adams Barber Shop in Cadiz, where he barbered since 1966, taking
over Jack Brown's Barber Shop in 1971. He was also a blaster for
R.& F. Coal Company for 20 years.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Morris Adams, whom he married in May
1971; a brother Jay B. and his wife, Jane Adams, Deersville; a special
sister-in-law, Alberta and her husband Eddie Tilkey, Cadiz; 14 nieces and
nephews; 4 great nieces and great nephews; 6 brothers-in-law; and 7 sisters-in-law.
He graduated from Lakeland High School in 1962 and from the Akron Barber
College in 1966. He was a member of Freeport Masonic Lodge 415
F.& A.M.; Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville; Cadiz Chapter, 171,
Royal Arch Masons, where he was Past High Priest; St. Bernard Commandry
#51; Knights Templar of Dover; Unionport Chapter 360, Order of the Eastern
Star; Tuscarawas Council 109, Royal and Select Masons; Harrison County
Geneological Society, where he was a Trustee; First Families of Harrison
Co.; Harrison Co. Farm Bureau; Freeport-Lakeland Alumni Assoiciation;
and a life member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association and the National
Rifle Association.
Graveside Services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Patterson Cemetery,
Deersville, Ohio, with Rev. Charles Bennett and Dr. Roger Rambaud officiating.
