Kathryn Robertson Long
PETERSTOWN - Kathryn Robertson Long, 80, of Peterstown, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital, Pearisburg, Va.
Born Oct. 8, 1918, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Elbert Fowler Robertson and Rosie M. Moss. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie H. Long; two sons, Charles Long and Ernie Long; three brothers, Johnny, Alfred and Cecil Robertson; two sisters, Josephine Steven and Glenna Green; and one half sister, Eula Reed
She is survived by four sons, Roger Long and Johnny Long, both of Peterstown, Howard Long of Narrows, Va., and Robert Long of Kellysville; five daughters, Carol Long of Gap Mills, Virginia May Meadows of Bozoo, Norma Fritz of Peterstown, Brenda Walker of Ballard, and Marie White of Narrows; one brother, Elbert Robertson of Peterstown; 35 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown with the Rev. Eugene Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset View Cemetery, Bozoo.
Friends were received at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Thomas Clarence Shrader
TAZEWELL, Va. - Thomas Clarence Shrader, 97, of Dogwood Estates, Tazewell, formerly of Squire, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at a Tazewell hospital. 
Born at Shraders, Va., he was the son of the late Grat F. and Rosa V. Riley Shrader. He had made his home at Squire for most of his life. He was a coal miner with Pocahontas Fuel Co., and had been a member of the U.M.W.A. Local Union 625 of Bishop, Va. He was co-owner of A.C. Block Co. at Squire from 1945 to 1965. He was a member of Berwind Masonic Lodge 141 AF & AM at Berwind. He was a charter member and deacon of Squire Advent Christian Chruch, Squire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Shrader; two sons, Warren Shrader and Reginald W. Shrader; one brother; and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Amelia Shrader of Dogwood Estates, Tazewell; two sons, Arnold Shrader and wife Ruth and Ernest Shrader and wife Helen, all of North Tazewell; two daughters, Beulah Carter of Squire and Fern Brooks and husband Joe of Aiken, S.C.; one sister, Ruby Helmondollar of Rock; four stepsons; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel, Tazewell, with the Revs. Orvil Harvey and Don Elswick officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Va. Berwind Masonic Lodge No. 141 of Berwind will conduct graveside rites.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Elica Daniellie Lester
PAINTLICK, Va. - Elica Daniellie Lester, 1-month-old daughter of Daniel and Jessica Twigg Lester of Paintlick, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, in a Johnson City, Tenn., hospital.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandmother, Shirley Twigg of Berkley Springs; maternal grandfather, Elmer Twigg of Great Cacapon; paternal grandparents, Eugene and Judy Lester of Paintlick; paternal great-grandfather, David Asbury Sr. of Wittens Valley, Va.; and paternal grandparents, Ralph and Minnie Lester of Baptist Valley, Va.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum, Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Roger Lester officiating. Burial will follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery.
Friends may call Saturday at Hurst Scott Funeral Home, Richlands, after 7 and one hour prior to services at the cemetery on Sunday.

Hilded Spigner
PRINCETON - Hildred Spigner, 85, of 604 Hale Ave., Princeton, formerly of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at a Princeton hospital.
Born Aug. 17, 1913, in Princeton, she was the daughter of the late Harry A. Wolfe and Rhodoska Ellison Wolfe. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in New Smyrna Beach and attended the Ashworth Regular Baptist Church, Princeton. She enjoyed crocheting and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry David Spigner; one brother, Harry Wolfe; and one sister, Mary Lee Bankston.
Her survivors include one nephew, Frank Stinson and wife Bonnie of Princeton, with whom she made her home; one son, Michael David Spigner of Athens, Ga.; one brother, Clayton Wolfe and wife Faye of Mullens; two sisters, Virginia Stinson of Lake Shawnee and Patsy Wolfe of Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Memorial Park, Princeton, with the Rev. Larry Bailey officiating.

Hershal Edward Boyd
RAVEN, Va. - Mr. Hershal Edward Boyd, 73, of Raven, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at a Bristol, Tenn., hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Raven, he was the son of the late Bert L. and Pansy Mae Bales Boyd, both Tazewell County, Va., natives. He was a 1947 graduate of Richlands High School and was a retired postmaster for the U.S. Post Office at Raven with 30 years of service. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, was a member of Clearview United Methodist Church and Richlands Kiwanis Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Boyd.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margaret Nicewander Boyd; two daughters, Victoria Ann Boyd Smith of Richlands and Shirlyn Boyd Dailey of Marion, S.C.; one son, Steven E. Boyd of Wise, Va.; two sisters, Rebecca Boyd Fletcher of Kingsport, Tenn., and Jacquline Boyd Webb of Doran, Va.; three brothers, Kenneth "Mouse" Boyd of Doran, the Rev. Sidney Boyd of Polkton, N.C., and Tom Boyd of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Isaac Woody Dailey II, Richard Boyd Dailey, Cindy Stiltner Sayers, Lee Ann Smith Johnson, Crystal Smith and April Boggs Salyers; and four great-grandchildren, Isaac Woody Dailey III, Amanda Dailey, Stephanie Boggs and Loren Salyers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel, Richlands, with the Rev. Paul Griffith officiating. Burial will follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands.
Pallbearers will be Richard Dailey, Woody Dailey, Doug Cordle, Bob Lane, Harold Short, Jim Boyd, Scott Boyd and Keith Boyd.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Richlands Kiwanis Club, Dr. H.C. Scott, Jim Hale and Kenny Boyd. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post No. 9640 of Richlands and the Disabled American Veterans Tazewell County Chapter 31 will conduct military graveside services.

Lema M. Rangeley
BLUEFIELD - Lema M. Rangeley, 90, of 996 Longview, Bluefield, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at West Wood Health Care Center, Bluefield, Va.
Born Sept. 14, 1908, in Mulkey, Okla., she was the daughter of the late James Harlan Mulkey and Mae Margaret Dunn Mulkey. She was a homemaker, a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bluefield and was active in civic affairs. She was a member of East River Mountain Garden Club and was a life member of the West Virginia Garden Club, Inc. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Rangeley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Parlor of Mercer Funeral Home, Bluefield, with Dr. W.D. Hasty Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Green Valley.
Pallbearers will be Peter Richardson, Ron Satterfield, Charles W. Moore, James M. Godwin III, Clarence Perkinson and Lee Edwards.

Susie Byrd Christian
NAYLOR, Ga. - Susie Byrd Christian, 93, of Naylor, Ga., formerly of North Tazewell, Va., died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at a Lakeland, Ga., hospital.
Born Feb. 3, 1906, at Montcalm, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Lucy Farris Nunn. She had lived most of her life in Tazewell before moving to Naylor in 1990. She most recently resided in Lakeland, Ga. She was a member of Daily's Chapel Methodist Church at Baptist Valley, Va., and attended Southland Baptist Church in Lakeland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry M. Christian; three daughters; and one son.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Gwaltney of Baltimore, Md.; three sons, Joe Christian of Naylor, Charles Christian of Jekyll Island, Ga., and Hunter M. Christian of Atlanta, Ga; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Peery and St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel, Tazewell, with the Rev. Max Linkous officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Clay Pool Hill, Va.

Delmer `Red' Pettrey
PRINCETON - Delmer Franklin "Red" Pettrey, 78, of 324 5th Street, Princeton, died Monday, April 26, 1999, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va.
Born April 5, 1921, in Pettrey, he was the son of the late Ernest E. and Lona Louisa Brookman Pettrey. He was a well known local carpenter who retired in 1995. He was educated in Mercer County schools and was a lifelong resident of Mercer County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served as Sergeant in the 206th Anti-Tank Company. He was awarded medals for good conduct and rifleman and a campaign ribbon with five stars. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Pettrey; and two brothers, Dennis and Donzie Pettrey.
His survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Michael E. Pettrey and Sarah of Wirtz, Va; two daughters, Ann Stroupe and Karen Sue Richmond, both of Princeton; three grandsons, Ronald Vance Stroupe of Raleigh, N.C., Michael Keith Stroupe and Jon Thomas Cooper, both of Princeton; three granddaughters, Lisa Michelle Pettrey of Lothian, Md., Melissa Ray Duncan of Reivesville, and Jillian Leigh Richmond of Princeton; two great-granddaughters, Madisen Rene and Hannah Kristine Stroupe; one sister and brother-in-law, Dossie and Otis Wiley of Athens; one brother, Dale Pettrey of Bent Mountain; several nieces and nephews; and very special friend, Virginia Walters of Green Valley. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton, with the Revs. Paul Hall, Gary Swogger and Clarence Dillon officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Park Cemetery, Princeton. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Terry C. Johnson
TAZEWELL, Va. - Terry C. Johnson, 44, of Tazewell, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at an Ashland, Ky., hospital.
Born Oct. 2, 1954, at Welch, he was a son of Jack and Shirley Bandy Johnson of Tazewell. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lillian Bandy, and his grandfather, Lonnie Johnson.
His survivors include one son, Shane Terrence Johnson of Indiana; three sisters, Mrs. Larry (Sharon) Saunders of War, Mrs. Eddie (Rita) Pauley of North Tazewell, Va., and Mrs. Judi Johnson of Freemont, Ohio; one brother, Michael Johnson of Port Clinton, Ohio; his loving companion, Caroline Bishop; five nieces, three nephews, one great-niece and three great nephews. 
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel, Tazewell, with the Rev. Leon Yost officiating. Burial will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Va.

SQUIRE - Mary Marie Rose, 80, of Squire, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at her daughter's home in Springfield, Va.
Born Dec. 15, 1916, at Newhall, she was a daughter of the late Lee D. and Pearlie Barrett Reed. She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Rose, four sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Chisam of McMinnville, Tenn., and Bettie Short of Springville; two sisters, Josie Dixon of Tazewell, Va., and Wanda Ash of Painesville, Ohio; three grandchildren, Karen Davidson of Valls Creek, Jeffrey Short and Deneen Byrd, both of Springfield; two great-grandchildren, Sheri Davidson of Bishop, Va., and Christina Short of Springfield.

WAVERLY, Ohio - Ella Mae Parks, 71, of Waverly, died Monday, April 26, 1999, in Waverly.
Born Aug. 28, 1927, in Dott, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Thomas and Nora Shrewsberry Sisk. 
Her survivors include two brothers, Everett Sisk of Kegley and Rev. Maynard Sisk of Princeton; three sisters, Mavis Farmer of Michigan, Velda Wiley and Kathalene Gordon, both of Princeton; and three grandchildren, Stephanie Woods, Danny Kessler and Nona Gail Rose.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Plains Cemetery in Carroll County, Va.

Aubrey Edward Barbour
PRINCETON - Aubrey Edward Barbour, 75, of the Princeton Towers, Stafford Drive, Princeton, died Monday, April 26, 1999, in Princeton Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1923, in Princeton, he was the son of the late Leonard Robert and Ora Ethel Willard Barbour. He retired after 50 years of service with the Norfolk Southern, Virginian, and Norfolk & Western railroads. He was a member of Princeton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
His survivors include his wife, Vivian Marie Helton Barbour of Princeton; one brother, Fred J. Barbour of Newark, Del; and several nieces and nephews.
The body has been cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Princeton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Speaker Ed Wimmer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Princeton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Bowling Street, Princeton, WV 24740.

Floyd `Roy' Thompson
ROCK - Floyd A. "Roy" Thompson, 75, of Rt. 2, Box 245, Rock, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at the Veterans Hospital, Salem, Va.
Born Sept. 1, 1924, in McComas, he was a son of the late George A. and Winnie Belcher Thompson. He had been a resident of Rt. 2, Rock, for most of his life and was a retired coal miner. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army where he was a prisoner of war for 14 months in Germany. He was a member of the VFW Post 3112. He was preceded in death one brother, Charles Thompson Jr., and one sister, Frances Pigg.
Survivors include one brother, Sidney A. Thompson of Mercer Mall Road, Bluefield; and close friends, Vesper and Kathleen Beckner of Rt. 2, Rock.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell, with Rev. Ralph French officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Bluewell. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Fred J. Simpkins Jr.
BLUEFIELD - Fred J. Simpkins Jr., 64, of Bluefield, formerly of Rocky Gap, Va., passed away Monday, April 26, 1999, at a local nursing facility.
He was the son of the late Fred Sr. and Ada Walters Simpkins. He was a construction worker and a U.S. Army veteran having served tours of duty in Germany and Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion in Princeton, and a member of the United Methodist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma A. Simpkins.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Fred J. Simpkins III and Dianne of Rocky Gap; three grandchildren, Courtney, Christian and Patrick Simpkins of Rocky Gap; two sisters, Freda Simpkins and Janice Martin, both of Rocky Gap; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel, Bland, Va., with the Rev. Tami Shoup officiating. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday or at the residence of his son in Rocky Gap.
