Graveside service will be held Thursday, June 5, at 2 p.m. at the Round Hill Cemetery, Marion, Va., with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. 
He is survived by his parents, Kristie Leigh Frazier of Rural Retreat, Va., and Charles Wayne Peoples Jr. of Wytheville, Va.; maternal grandparents, William "Frankie" and Patricia Frazier of Rural Retreat, Va.; parental grandparents, Debbie McKinney of Wytheville, Va., and Charles Peoples of Pulaski, Va.; godmother, Missy Atwell of Rural Retreat, Va.; and three cousins.

Edwin Henry Jacobs 
Edwin Henry Jacobs, 84, of Austinville, Va., formerly of Mt. Lebanon, Pa., died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at his residence. 
Graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7, at 11 a.m., at the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Mt. Lebanon, Pa., with the Rev. David Watson officiating. 
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Clair and Margaret Shaffer Jacobs. 
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Firmin Jacobs of the home; a son, Scott Douglas Jacobs of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Jacobs and Michael Brelsford of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Claire Brelsford and Scott Brelsford of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and two nieces and nephews.

Roxie Elizabeth Cox, 84, of Pulaski, Va., died Friday, May 30, 2003. A memorial service was held Sunday, June 1, at 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home in Pulaski, Va., with the Rev. Johnny Howlett officiating. Burial was held Monday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Christian Church Cemetery, Draper, Va. 
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy H. Davis; and two brothers. 
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Nadene Holliday of Charlottesville, Va., and Curtis and Judy Cox of Pulaski, Va.; two sisters, Virginia Warden of Wythe County, Va., and Sallie Damron of Allisonia, Va.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Raymond Sherwood Cornett
Raymond Sherwood Cornett, 72, of Marion, Va., died Thursday, June 5, 2003, in the Veteran's Hospital, Salem, Va. 
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, at 7 p.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Marion, Va., with Pastor James H. Bangle officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Marion V.F.W. Post No. 4667. Burial will be in the church columbarium. 
He was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Occupation Forces in Japan and Germany. He also was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. While serving in Korea, he was awarded the Bronze Star. He served as a master watch maker and jeweler for many years in Marion, Va. 
He is survived by his wife, Lois Waak Cornett of Marion, Va.; one daughter, Dana Jean Cornett of Harrisonburg, Va.; one son, Avery Sherwood Cornett of Marion, Va.; and one granddaughter, Brooke Cornett Moon. 
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church.

Catherine Roslyn Pauley, 80, of Max Meadows, Va., died Monday, June 9, 2003, in the Grayson Nursing and Rehab Center in Independence, Va. 
A prayer service will be held Thursday, June 12, at 8:30 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, Va. A funeral mass will be held Friday, June 13, at noon at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wytheville, Va., with Father Rene Castillo officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wytheville, Va. 
She was born in New York, a daughter of the late James Howard and Anne Cimino Finning. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a retired secretary. 
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James and Mary Ann Pauley of Illinois; one daughter, Janis P. Hilliker of Max Meadows, Va.; six grandchildren, James Pauley, John Pauley, Patrick Pauley, Kenneth Hilliker, Denise Hilliker and Thomas Hilliker; four great-grandchildren, Kiera Hilliker, Kaycee Hilliker, Victoria Hilliker and Angelina Hilliker; and one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Robert Rettig of New Jersey.

Frances S. Anderson, 65, of Silver Spring, Md., died Wednesday, June 11, 2003. 
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, June 13, at 2 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Park, Fairfax, Va. 
She was a daughter of Carbert P. Steffey and Beulah B. Phillippi Steffey. She was a 1955 graduate of Rural Retreat High School and a 1957 graduate of Strayer Business College. She worked for the federal government for over 30 years. 
She is survived by a daughter, Stephanie K. Ottman of Silver Spring, Md.; a son, Thomas E. Ottman of Gaithersburg, Md.; and a sister, Jean S. Hall of Fairfax, Va.

Juanita "Bunce" Shrader Brewer, 79, of Route 1, Rocky Gap, Va., died Thursday, June 12, 2003, in a Bastian, Va., nursing home. 
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 15, at 2 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Murray officiating. Burial will follow in the French Family Cemetery in Dry Fork, Va. 
Born Feb. 7, 1924, in Bluefield, W.Va. She was a homemaker and a member of the Dry Fork Baptist Church. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace "Homer" Brewer; her parents, Clovis and Sally Coeburn Shrader; three sons and a sister. 
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Karl Lambert of Rocky Gap, Va.; and a son, Bill Brewer; a granddaughter, Rachel Brewer; a "special sister," Leliah Pruett of Narrows, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

J. Fred Dean, 89, of the Bethany Community in Wythe County, Va., died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Asbury Place in Wytheville, Va. 
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 15, at 2 p.m. at the Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Waller officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany Cemetery. 
He was born in Wythe County, Va., a son of the late William Burton and Susie Akers Dean. He was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church, a life member of the Lead Mines Rescue Squad and a retired insurance broker with Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Umberger Dean; and two sons, Fredric Wayne Dean and Edward Burton Dean. 
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas R. and Joanne Dean of Stafford, Va., Danny G. and Sherry Dean, and Terry A. and Becky Dean, all of Wytheville, Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, Burton and Alice Dean of Austinville, Va.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mildred Pauline Arnold
Mildred Pauline Arnold, of the Fort Chiswell community in Max Meadows, Va., died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Asbury Place in Wytheville, Va. 
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 19, at 11 a.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. James Black and the Rev. Don Crockett officiating. Interment will be in West End Cemetery, Wytheville, Va. 
She was an elementary school teacher for 37 years, all of which were spent in Wythe County, Va. Her teaching career began with the 1943-1944 school term at Glade School in the West Piney community. After teaching at Glade for two years, she transferred to Ivanhoe School and taught there until that school closed at the end of the 1973-1974 school year. She finished her career at Sheffey Elementary School, retiring at the end of the 1979-1980 school year. For most of her career, she taught first grade, teaching her students to read. She was a graduate of Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga., and completed additional course work at Radford College in Radford, Va. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church, working in the church’s ministry in a number of capacities, including Sunday school teacher and choir member. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosa Belle Felts Arnold and Stuart French Arnold. 
Survivors include one sister, Marie Arnold of Asbury Place, Wytheville, Va.; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Margaret Arnold of Max Meadows, Va., Ray and Mildred Arnold of Roanoke, Va., Roy and Irene Arnold of Richmond, Va., and Ralph Duane and Evelyn Arnold of Stuarts Draft, Va.; five nephews, seven nieces, and several great-nephews, great-nieces, great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces.

Wilbur Vencen Buchanan, 79, of Wytheville, Va., died Friday, June 20, 2003, at his residence.

He was born April 14, 1924, in Wythe County, Va., a son of the late Mitchell and Laura Porter Buchanan. He was retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. 
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Buchanan; one daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Alan Rogers of Richmond, Va.; two stepsons, Kenneth Sargent and Keith Sargent; one grandson, Jason Bryant of Richmond, Va.; a special nephew, David Sheffey; special caregivers, Martha Repass and Carolyn Repass; and three other nephews.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Lloyd W. Leona Priscilla Doss Crowder, 91, of Welch, W.Va., formerly of Austinville, Va., died Friday, June 20, 2003, in the Welch Community Hospital, Welch, W.Va. 
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel in Austinville, Va., with the Rev. Larry Buckland officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany Cemetery in Poplar Camp section of Wythe County, Va. 
She was born Jan. 23, 1912, in Kimball, W.Va. She was a former member of the Sheeptown Church of God and a member of the Big Four Pentecostal Holiness Church in Welch, W.Va. 
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Doss; her second husband, the Rev. Martin Crowder; her parents, Levi and Virgie Richards Burks; and several sisters and brothers. 
Survivors include a granddaughter, Priscilla Myers of Welch, W.Va.; six stepdaughters, Elsie Porterfield of Gladys, Va., Swansia Scarberry of Moneta, W.Va., Mrs. Herbert (Aileen) Sisk, Zola Shorter and Mary Frazier, all of Austinville, Va., and Mildred King of Bristol, Tenn.; one stepson, Martin Crowder Jr. of Proctorville, Ohio; a half brother, Harry Collier of Florida; 38 stepgrandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia Kirkland Gibson, 93, of Wytheville, Va., died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at her residence. 
A memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 25, at 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Wade Tucker officiating. Interment will be in Green Hills Memorial Gardens, Cedar Bluff, Va. 
She was born May 4, 1910, in Tacoma, Wash. She moved from Richlands, Va., to Wytheville, Va., 22 years ago and was a retired hospital clinic administrator. She was a member of the Wytheville Baptist Church. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Summerfield Gibson; her parents, Harry P. and Lilie Jack Kirkland; and two sisters, Erma Gilmore and Irene Gerlach. 
She is survived by one daughter, Gail Gose of Johnson City, Tenn.; one son, Richard Kirkland "Kirk" Gibson of Wytheville, Va.; and three grandchildren, Katherine Gibson of Charlotte, N.C., Rebecca Haworth of Johnson City, Tenn., and Richard F. Gose of Conway, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Pierce Nuckols; her parents, John Fletcher Williams and Willie Hill Eversole Williams; and a son-in-law, Jerry Fields. 
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Janet Fields of Concord, Va., and Marsha N. and Ronnie H. Crigger of Wytheville, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Warren D. "Pete" and Betty R. Ralph Edwin Winesett Sr., 82, of Raleigh, N.C., died Tuesday, June 17, 2003. 
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 19, at 3 p.m. at the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel, Raleigh, N.C., with the Rev. Arlie McGarvey officiating. 
He was born in Bland County, Va. He was retired from Greyhound Bus Lines as a driver after 35 years of service. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Cleveland and Eliza Maye Winesett; and a sister, Alta W. Woodard.
