Dewey Hensel Arnold 
Dewey Hensel Arnold, 78, of the Gunton Park community of Max Meadows, Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002. 
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Oscar "Sonny" Ayers and the Rev. Garrett Byrd officiating. Interment will be in West End Cemetery, Wytheville, Va. American Legion Post No. 9 will conduct graveside military rites. 
He was born Feb. 29, 1924, in Wythe County, Va. He attended the Gunton Park Church of God of Prophecy and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobert Pierce Arnold and Fannie Dean Arnold; two brothers, Fred Arnold and Homer Arnold. 
Survivors includes his wife of 55 years, Mona Dobbins Arnold of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Barbara and Pete Ayers of Max Meadows, Va., and Brenda Arnold of Dublin, Va.; three sons and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Kindle and Gladys Arnold of Dublin, Va., Douglas Arnold of Max Meadows, Va., and Allen Arnold of Kalamazoo, Mich.; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Zelma McCandless, Dammie and Doug Covey, Katherine and Jack Ray, Cleo and Woody Dunford, and Donna Sprinkler, all of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Bert and Jeannie Arnold of Kearney, Neb., and Mina Dobbins Arnold of Max Meadows, Va.; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 
The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home.

Charles R. Hagan 
Charles R. "Charlie" Hagan, 72, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Bastian, Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at his residence from cancer. 
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 29, at 8 p.m. at the Eggleston-Meinert Funeral Home in Oregon, Ohio with Pastor Daniel Ellis officiating. 
He was born in Roanoke, Va., on April 8, 1930, to Oscar C. and Opal Rowland Hagan. He served in the Army before moving to Toledo, Ohio. He worked on the lakes for 18 years, retiring in 1993 from the Oglebay Norton Line. After retiring, he worked for the BP service stations most recently at Navarre & Coy Road. 
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, his parents, two brothers and one sister. 
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Diane; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Jennifer Hagan, and Greg and Tammy Hagan; eight grandchildren, Anthony, Janette, Marissa, Nathaniel, Justin, Brittney, Samantha and Kristina; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Bernard and Louise Hagan, Paul Hagan, and Lawrence Hagan of Virginia; eight sisters and brothers-in-law, Dora Pritchard, Carol and Will Pauley, both of Virginia, Beulah Pritchett, Ruby and Mack Estep, both of West Virginia, Jean Gore and Barbara Wilson, both of Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Betty Hagan of Virginia. 
The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 29, from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Eggleston-Meinert Funeral Home in Oregon, Ohio.

Cecil Jay Hall, infant, of Barren Springs, Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va. 
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Sanders Cemetery. 
He is survived by his parents, Miranda Christina Barnes and Ronnie Wayne Hall, of Barren Springs, Va.; one sister, Caitlin Marie Quesenberry; one brother, Jesse Wayne Hall; one half-sister, Carol Ann Barnes; one half-brother, Michael Lee Barnes; maternal grandparents, Donald and Tina Quesenberry; maternal great-grandparents, Donald and Betty Quesenberry; great-great-grandparents, Robert and Pearl Cassell; and two uncles and an aunt, Donny Quesenberry, and Jay and Jennifer Hall.

Ruth Irene Durham Lindamood, 89, of Wytheville, Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va. 
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Norman Wilhoit officiating. Interment will be in the West End Cemetery, Wytheville, Va. 
She was born March 8, 1913, in Stokes County, N.C., a daughter of the late Joseph Manuel Durham and Mary Alma Cardwell Durham. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Wytheville, Va. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Andrew Lindamood Jr.; a brother, Otis Durham; and two sisters, Hallie Simmons and Ina Slawter. 
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy A. Lindamood; three sisters, Rachel Hunter of Greensboro, N.C., Ethel Collins and Alma George, both of Westfield, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Herbert A. McPhetridge, 73, of Lawrenceville, Ga., died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002. 
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Tim Stewart Funeral Home's Lawrenceville (Ga.) Chapel with the Rev. Dr. J. Cecil Riley officiating. Burial will be in the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. 
He was retired from Ingles Grocery Store with 59 years of service in the grocery industry and was a member of Grayson United Methodist Church. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel McPhetridge, on Dec. 21, 2000. 
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Charles Lee McPhetridge of Marietta, Ga., Joseph and Sharon McPhetridge of Stockbridge, Ga., Regina and Ron Linkous of Bedford, Texas, and Susan Dianne McPhetridge of Lawrenceville, Ga.; three sisters, Mildred Hopkins and Georgie Altom, both of Knoxville, Ga., and Betty Acuff of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mildred Ida Layden Archer, 89, of Chatham, Va., died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002 at the Meadowbrook Terrace in Winston-Salem, N.C. 
Graveside service will be held Sunday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Wytheville, Va. 
She preceded in death by her husband, Edward Blair Archer. 
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Civil Archer of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Jerry Lee and Kim-Tucker Archer of Round Hill, Va.; three grandchildren, Page Archer, Kelly Archer and Jenny Archer; three brothers, two sisters and several nieces and nephews.

Frederic H. "Freddie" Morehead, 73, of Wytheville, Va. died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, in the Grayson Rehab Center. 
A graveside memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 1, at 9 a.m. in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Wytheville, Va., with Pastor Steve Ridenhour officiating. 
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Wytheville, Va., and was a former employee of The Southwest Virginia Enterprise. 
He is survived by a sister, Phyllis M. Umberger of Cripple Creek, Va.; a brother, Robert C. Morehead Jr. of St. George, Utah; and several nieces and nephews.

Kathleen Minnie Sadler Hayton, 85, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of Ceres, Va., died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va. 
Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m. at the Highland Funeral Service Bland Chapel, Bland, Va., with the Rev. James Pentecost officiating. A graveside service and interment were held Monday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m. at the Red Oak Cemetery, Ceres, Va. 
She was born in Bland County, Va., a daughter of the late Hayes G. and Nellie Hancock Sadler. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ballard P. Hayton. 
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Kenneth "Jake" Hubble of Roanoke, Va.; one grandson, Michael Hubble of Roanoke, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Valerie DeMaris Leftwich, 47, of Wytheville, Va., formerly of Bastian, Va., died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va. 
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. at the Bastian Union Church, Bastian, Va., with the Rev. Ralph Kidd officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Bastian, Va. 
She was born in Bluefield, W.Va., daughter of the late Roy J. and Helen Bruce Leftwich. She was a member of Bastian Union and West End United Methodist churches and was active in the Breast Cancer Support Group of Wytheville, Va. 
She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Jeanette Leftwich of Hillsville, Va., and Jay and Joan Leftwich of Bastian, Va.; one niece and spouse, Angel and Pat Stowers of Bastian, Va.; one great-niece, Sydnie Helen Stowers of Bastian, Va.; two nephews, Ryan Leftwich and Jon David Leftwich of Bastian, Va.; several cousins and other relatives.

Sybil Fay Workman Schultz 
Sybil Fay Workman Schultz, 98, of Six Mile in Boone County, W.Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, in the Boone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Danville, W.Va. 
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. at Six Mile United Methodist Church, Six Mile, W.Va., with the Rev. Roger McCauley and Earl Akers officiating. Burial was in Workman Cemetery, Six Mile, W.Va. 
Born Oct. 30, 1904, at Six Mile, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charley and Arminta Hager Workman. She was one of 10 children. She was active in the Six Mile United Methodist Church and was president of the Women's Society of Christian Service that played a pivotal role in the funding of the church when it was founded. She was an avid reader and student of the Bible. She was an accomplished storyteller and cartoonist. 
She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Wetzel Dixon and Erwin W. Schultz. 
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria Jean and Roy Chambers of Six Mile, W.Va., JoAnn Mitchell of Wytheville, Va., and Judy and "Skip" Deegans of Lewisburg, W.Va.; her sister, Lois Parnell of Charleston, W.Va.; and her brother, the Rev. Rex Workman of Six Mile, W.Va.; grandchildren, Roy Emory Chambers Jr. of Six Mile, W.Va., Rebecca Jo Chambers of Six Mile, W.Va., Sandra Mitchell Harrison of Tignall, Ga., George W. Walter William Farmer, 81, of Wytheville, Va., died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002.

He was a retired truck driver.

Charles Leonard Bergeron 
Charles Leonard "Lenny" Bergeron, 91, of Orlando, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in Wytheville, Va. 
A wake service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. at the Dobbs Funeral Home Chapel, Orlando, Fla. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Andrew O'Reilly officiating. Interment will be Friday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Memory Gardens in St. Petersburg, Fla. 
He was born in Lawrence, Mass., raised in Pawtucket, R.I., and was a resident of St. Petersburg, Fla., from 1938 to 1988. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church and served as president of the Men's Club. He was active in Rotary International serving as founding member and president of the West St. Petersburg (Florida) Rotary Club and honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He moved to Orlando, Fla., in 1988 and lived there to the present where he was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and active in the Men's Club and Tuesday night prayer group. He received their "Lenny" award for service in 1995. He was a frequent visitor of Crockett, Va. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Marion, Va. He was a residential and commercial roofing contractor in St. Petersburg, Fla., Los Angeles, Calif., and Seattle, Wash. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bachison Bergeron. 
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ellen Watts of Crockett, Va., and Susanna B. Johnson of Orlando, Fla.; and a grandson, Stephen L. Johnson of Orlando, Fla.

Richard Eugene Dooley, 46, of Speedwell, Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Dooley; and a sister, Deborah Ann Dooley. 
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie F. Dooley of Speedwell, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Samantha and Mike Copeland of Speedwell, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Virginia Dooley of Speedwell, Va.; his father, John I. Bruce Edward Harmon, 54, of Kennel Lane, Wytheville, Va., died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in the Roanoke Community Hospital, Roanoke, Va. 
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Bob Lewis and the Rev. Jack Rutherford officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. 
He was born in Wythe County, Va., Aug. 11, 1948, a son of the late Robert H. and Leona Arnold Harmon. He was a self-employed painter and attended Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church. 
He is survived by special companions Pat and Hoagy Oliver of the home; three sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Frye, Peggy and Clinton Coleman, and Sarah Frye, all of Wytheville, Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Joann Harmon of Wytheville, Va.; special friends, Clayton Dunford, Tom Frye, and Timmy Akers; and several nieces and nephews.
