Memorial service for Viva Mae Avila, 84, of Decatur will be at 7:30
p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at Word of Faith Praise Center in Fort Worth.
Avila died Jan. 15, 2003, in Decatur.
Born May 26, 1918, in New Mexico to Edgar and Alma (Boyles) Cook, she
was a loving and devoted homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Santos Avila.
She is survived by a son, Glenn Waldrop and wife Barbara; three daughters,
Wanda Rountree and husband Oscar, Patricia Reed and husband Jim and Teresa
Ledford and husband David; two sisters, Esteline Evans and Minnie Sparks;
eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Bobbie Ruth Southall Pitts
1928-2003
Service for Bobbie Ruth Southall Pitts, 74, of Bridgeport was Tuesday,
Jan. 28, at Bible Baptist Church of Bridgeport. The Rev. Kenneth Wood officiated.
Burial followed at Willow Point Cemetery near Balsora.
Pitts died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in Denton.
Born Oct. 9, 1928, in Humphrey, Okla., to Robert and Ruth (Grey) Southall,
she married Carlos Pitts on June 3, 1976, in Oklahoma. She was the retired
owner of Bobbie’s Unique Boutique in Decatur and a member of the Lake Bridgeport
Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dora Katherine Hudson and a
brother, Glenn Southall.
She is survived by her husband; seven daughters, Pam Trantham of Aurora,
Paula Geiser and husband Paul of Runaway Bay, Patti Madewell and husband
Tommy of Argyle, Lisa Valliant and husband Kim of Decatur, Rhonda McIlroy
of Cottondale, Jayne Green and husband Larry of Boyd and Connie Wood of
Paradise; a son, Joe Morgan of Roswell, N.M.; a sister, Pauline Pool; a
sister-in-law, Ida Jo Southall; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Butch Selby, Wiley Meador, Jim Coffman, Cody Bryant,
Mark Sanders, Jim Bob Little and Bob Basham.

Floy Alice Bedford
1916-2003
Service for Floy Alice Bedford, 86, of Bridgeport will be Thursday,
Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. at White’s Funeral Home Chapel in Springtown. Burial
will follow at Springtown Cemetery.
Visitation was to be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday,
Jan. 29.
Bedford died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in Bridgeport.
Born May 13, 1916, in Erick, Okla., she was a member of the Assembly
of God Church in Boyd and the Eastern Star Boyd Chapter. She was a Worthy
Matron from 1972 to 1973. She was active in her church and once traveled
to the Holy Land.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Jessie Bedford;
a daughter, Yvonne Washburn; a son, Winfred Pynes and a stepson, Edwin
Bedford.
She is survived by two sons, Herbert Bedford of Hope, Ark., and James
Bedford and wife Linda of North Richland Hills; a stepdaughter, Alene Binney
and husband Buster of Big Sandy; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren
and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Emma Mae Moncrief
1908-2003
Graveside service for Emma Mae Moncrief, 94, of Justin was to be Saturday,
Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at the Justin Cemetery.
Moncrief died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in Fort Worth.
Born May 30, 1908, in Dallas ,to Matt and Bertie Thomas Dardeman, she
was the valedictorian in 1925 at Ponder High School. She married Floyd
Burch Moncrief on July 15, 1926, in Rhome. She was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Justin and a homemaker. Moncrief was a member of the
National Poetry Society and won several honors in a national writing competition,
including publication.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 17, 1993.
She is survived by two daughters, Mickey Logan and Jherrie Logan, both
of Justin; three sons, Leland Moncrief, Bobby Moncrief and Kelly Moncrief
all of Justin; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Florence King
1907-2003
Service for Florence King, 95, of Bridgeport was to be Saturday, Jan.
25 at 3 p.m. at Hawkins Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Joe Motsenbocker was to
officiate. Burial was to follow at West Bridgeport Cemetery.
King died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in Decatur.
Born Nov. 12, 1907, in St. Paul, Minn., she was a retired hairdresser
and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport. She married
Walter King on Sept. 16, 1947, who preceded her in death in 1998.
She was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Alice Clark of Mesquite and Diane
Storlien of Minnesota; four grandchildren, Deborah, Gayle, Tommy and Tim
and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were to be Juston Goodman and Toby Storlien.
Margaret Evelyn New
1918-2003
Service for Margaret Evelyn New, 84, formerly of Decatur, was Nov.
9, 2002, at Bratcher Funeral Home in Denison. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery
in Denison.
New died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2002, in Denison.
Born Dec. 15, 1918, in Newton, Miss., She married Charles New of Decatur
on Oct. 14, 1940. When he went to work for the Katy Railroad, the couple
moved to Denison.
She was preceded in death by her son, Paul.
She is survived by two sons, Charles New Jr. and wife Paula and Jim
New and four grandchildren, Andy, Nathan, Sarah and Paula McDowell.
Bruce Lynn Martin
1952-2003
Service for Bruce Lynn Martin, 50, of Watauga, formerly of Briar, was
Friday, Jan. 24 at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Larry Hood
officiated. Burial followed at Boyd Cemetery.
Martin died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in Watauga.
Born Dec. 26, 1952, in Harlingen, he married Verena Hood Martin on
Sept. 27, 1980, in Smithfield. He was a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas William Martin.
He is survived by his wife; his mother, Alpha Martin; one son, Berry
Martin; one daughter, Lexa Martin; two brothers, Gene Martin and Eddie
Martin and two sisters, Vikki Woodruff and Cathie Perkins.
Pallbearers were David Martin, Kevin Martin, Thomas Martin, Phillip
Johnson, Ray Woodruff and Tommy Woodruff. Honorary pallbearer was David
Welch.
Anna Lavern Schmitz Brinlee

Graveside service for Anna Lavern Schmitz Brinlee, 69, of Newark was

Brinlee died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, in Fort Worth.
Born Oct. 1, 1933, in Dallas to John Henry Schmitz and Catherine Julindus
Ruwaldt, she married R. Jean “Windy” Brinlee on June 1, 1950, in Irving.
She worked in homecare and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Ricky Gene Brinlee.
She is survived by a son, Timothy Brinlee of Fort Worth; three daughters,
Ronda Schwartzlow and husband Richard of Azle, Sherry Gaught and husband
Lewis of Fort Worth and Arlene Berry and husband James of Newark; 13 grandchildren
and 5 great-grandchildren.
Movelda Holt Maddox

Graveside service for Movelda Holt Maddox, 78, of Decatur was to be
Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur. Gene Chamness
was to officiate.
Maddox died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in Decatur.
Born July 29, 1924, in Decatur to Clyde and Ethel Holt, she married
Ed Maddox, D.V.M., on Aug. 3, 1952, in Decatur. She was a member of the
First United Methodist Church in Decatur. After retirement from the Texas
Highway Department, she assisted her husband with his veterinary practice.
She was preceded in death by a step-son, Edward P. Maddox and a brother,
Clyde Holt Jr.
She is survived by her husband; a son, John E. Vanetten and wife June
of College Station; a daughter-in-law, Anita Maddox of Temple; a step-daughter,
Celia Ann Parsons and husband Vernon of Temple; five grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren.
Barney H. Holgate

Graveside service for Barney H. Holgate, 89, of Bridgeport was Tuesday,
Jan. 21, at Terry County Memorial Cemetery in Brownfield.
Holgate died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, in Decatur.
Born Feb. 16, 1913, in Gomez, he was retired from the Civil Service.
He married Salomae Steen on March 25, 1939, in Lubbock and was a member
of First Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Forrest S. Holgate of Grand Junction,
Colo. and Stanley H. Holgate of Fayetteville, N.C.; one daughter, Elizabeth
Young of Decatur; one sister, Kathrin Hamilton of Brownfield; six grandchildren
and eight great-grandchildren.
Judy Jean Yarbrough
1944-2003
Service for Judy Jean Yarbrough, 58, of Boyd was to be Wednesday, Jan.
22 at 2 p.m. at Aurora Baptist Church. The Rev. Jimmy Withers was to officiate.
Burial was to follow at Aurora Cemetery.
Yarbrough died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, in Decatur.
Born Dec. 29, 1944, in Iraan, she was chief clerk for the Prec. 1 justice
of the peace office. She married Woodrow Wilson Yarbrough June 1, 1973,
in Fort Worth. She was a member of the Aurora Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Kristy Totty of Oklahoma
City; one brother, Dean Garland of Evant and a grandson, Reese Logan Totty.
Pallbearers were to be Steve Petty, Coy Grimes, B.J. Adams, Loyd Ellingwood,
Joe Pena and Jimmy Valesquez. Honorary pallbearers were to be Ryan Totty,

A private family service will be held for John Richard Males, 73, of
Decatur. Males died Thursday, March 27, 2003, in Decatur.
Born Nov. 28, 1929, in Soper, Okla., he was a retired carpenter. He
was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Males.
He is survived by four sons, Michael L. Males and wife Marsha of Loveland,
Colo., Richard L. Males and wife Sheri of Oklahoma City, Okla., Randy D.
Males and wife Gayla of Jacksonville, Ark. and Steven D. Males and wife
Debbie of Decatur; three sisters, Mildred, Lucille and Evelyn; eight grandchildren

Shirley J. Buie

Service for Shirley J. Buie, 67, of Alvord will be Monday, March 31,

Buie died Thursday, March 27, 2003, in Decatur.
Born March 23, 1936, in Clovis, N.M., she was a homemaker. She married
Hal G. Buie on Sept. 7, 1952, in El Paso. She was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Alvord.
She is survived by her husband; four sons, Donald E. Buie of Twin Falls,
Idaho, Hal W. Buie of Everman, Joel D. Buie of Crowley and John L. Buie
of Joshua; one daughter, Linda Jeanette Roberts of Grand Prairie; 10 grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside service for L. N. Barnard, 78, of Boyd was to be at 11 a.m.,
Wednesday, March 26 at New Hope Cemetery with Cecil Westervelt officiating.
Born October 30, 1924, in Fort Worth, the son of John Claude and Dewey
(Phillips) Barnard, he died March 23, 2003, in Azle.
Barnard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, married Jean Pickett
January 17, 1942, in Weatherford and retired from Bell Helicopter after
32 years. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Barnard of Boyd; son,
Sonny Barnard and wife Kelly of Saginaw; four daughters, Ann Mawhirter
and husband Mike of Derby, Kan., Linda Wren and husband Bob of Grapevine,
Patricia Barnard of Boyd and Sandra Johnson and husband John Short of Fort
Worth; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters Helen
Westervelt and Juanita McMillen.
Gary Michael Rhine

Rhine died Sunday, March 23, 2003, in Fort Worth.
Born July 30, 1949, in Decatur, he was a retired employee of Mitchell
Energy Corporation and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Rhine in August, 1979.
He is survived by his mother, Sue Rhine; a sister, Janice Vauek and
husband Danny; two nieces, two great-nephews, and one great-niece.

Brooks died Thursday, March 20, 2003, in Chico.
Born March 19, 1941, in Mineral Wells to John Dee and Mary (Woodall)
Gober, Brooks married Everett “Snuffy” Brooks on Sept. 21, 1972, in Chico
and was a member of the Crafton Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Grace and
Marie.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, Wesley Rice and wife Suzanne,
Blane Rice and Jeff Brooks; daughter Vella Thacker and husband David; four
brothers, Joe, James, W.D. and John Gober; three sisters, Louise Wilkerson,
Ruth Simmons and Bessie Wright; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren
and numerous nieces and nephews.

active duty with the Marines, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 27 at the
Coker Funeral Home chapel.
Visitation was to be Wednesday, March 26, 7 to 8 p.m. at Coker Funeral
Home Chapel. Friends will give the eulogy. Burial to follow at Bald Knob
Cemetery in Wise County.
Born July 4, 1980, in Bridgeport, he died Saturday, March 22, 2003,
in San Angelo.
He is survived by his parents; Bob and Pam Fisk of Mason and David
Ray Jones of Arlington; sisters, Misty Pauline Sparks of Big Sandy and
Lindsay and Ashley Fisk of Mason; and grandmother, Lela Fisk of Gladewater.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Kenneth and Vera Jones and

Memorial service for James Randy “Ason” Girard, 32, of Bowie was Monday,

Girard died March 20, 2003, in New Boston, and was the stepson of Carl
Finney who formerly worked at Karl Klement Chrysler in Decatur.
Born Jan. 5, 1971, in Hileah, Fla., Girard was a member of the Seventh
Day Adventist Church and the American Poets Society. He was an author and
inventor, artist, musician and gourmet cook. He married Jaqueline Nicole
Bonneau Feb. 28, 2003, in Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Adolfo Arellano, Celia
Arellano, Stella Girard and Rene J. Girard.
He is survived by his father Jim Girard and wife Beverly of Hillsboro;
mother Sally Finney and husband Carl of Bowie; two brothers, Darryl Dwayne
Girard of Trophy Club and Rene Evan Girard of Bowie; step-grandparents,
P.N. and Pearline Finney; and numerous step-brothers, aunts, uncles and
