Uncle Bennie
That’s what he was to the people that loved him most, his nieces and nephews.
Uncle Bennie never married, and never had a family of his own. He was too
busy helping take care of Grandma, Meta Schiel, who had the overwhelming
task of trying to raise 5 young children after Grandpa, Louis Schiel, died.
He continued his role of caregiver for his mom, living with her until she
died at the age of 93.
He worked at Katy Water Well Drilling Company for 15 years, then for Harris
County, where he retired with 26 years of service. Uncle Bennie attended
Christ United Church in Cypress, Texas, where he was baptized as an infant
and confirmed on August 18, 1940.
Uncle Bennie loved his nieces and nephews, and took great pleasure in
inviting them over to eat lunch that he had cooked for them. He also loved
visiting the Hardware store, almost on a daily basis, where he would visit
with the family and customers. He took great pleasure in talking to folks,
and had a mind sharp as a tack. He had such an incredible memory, and would
often times surprise people with the details he could remember about things
they had told him, or significant dates such as birthdays.
We will miss Uncle Bennie, but are extremely grateful that we were blessed
to have him as part of our family, and part of our lives, for so many years.
Walter Schiel, Jr., Barbara White, Florence Peterson, Gloria Treichel,
Louis Schiel and Donna Hill.
