She was a fantastic cook, a quilt maker and taught catechism classes and Spanish.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ponciano, in 1966; a son, Daniel, in 1982; and a daughter, Consuelo "Connie" Kennedy, in 1980.

She graduated from Texas Tech University in 1944 with a B.S. in education. She taught school in Borger, Lubbock and Spur. She married Robert J. McAteer Oct. 2, 1949, in Spur. He preceded her in death June 26, 1987. Mrs. McAteer was a member of the Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women and served as a youth sponsor many years. She also served as a Girl Scout leader and was a member of the Garden Club. She was named Spur's Woman of the Year in 1961.

He retired from the Navy after 21 years, with decorations in Navy Occupation, China Service, Good Conduct, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service, United Nations Service, National Defense Service, American Area, World War II Victory, Asiatic Pacific Area and Philippines Liberation.

He served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War. He retired after 11 years with the postal service. He was a 39-year member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Star in the East Masonic Lodge 166 in Rockford, Ill., and Arlington Chapter 249, Order of the Eastern Star, in Arlington.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Parmentier.

John Stacks Sr.
GRANBURY -- John "J. W." Stacks Sr., 74, a retired 32-year owner of an automotive parts store, John Stacks, Inc., died Friday at a Fort Worth medical center.

Funeral: 3 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Palmer. Burial: Palmer Cemetery.

John "J. W." Stacks Sr. was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Palmer.

He moved to Fort Worth in 1960 and had been a Granbury resident since November 1995. He was a member of Fort Worth Moslah Temple Shrine, Knights Templar of Texas No. 19, Palmer Masonic Lodge No. 459 and First United Methodist Church in Palmer. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Pallbearers: Kevin Burns, Gillett Cobb, Mike Grant, Joe Hamm, John Hart and Roger Stacks. Honorary pallbearers: Red Hull, Jack Cates, Arthur Page, Bob Walker and Parmer Wilson.

Survivors: Wife, Coleta Stacks of Granbury; sons and daughter-in-law, John W. Stacks Jr. and Cathy Stacks of Ennis and Clay Stacks of Stephenville; daughter, Jane Stacks of Dallas; three grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.

Connie Stallings was born Sept. 6, 1946, in San Antonio. She was a substitute teacher for the White Settlement Independent School District and a longtime member and Sunday school teacher and librarian at First Baptist Church in White Settlement.
