Dan J. Anderson Jr. was born Nov. 11, 1947, in Fort Worth. He was an area manager for Oshman's Sporting Goods for more than 14 years. He was a graduate of Allen Academy in 1966 and Texas Wesleyan University with a BBA in 1972. He was a member of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, open water instructor. He was a private pilot.

Ben A. Barber
MANSFIELD -- Ben A. Barber, 87, a vocational agriculture teacher who retired from the Mansfield Independent School District in 1970, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at home.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessing Funeral Home in Mansfield. Burial: Mansfield Cemetery.

Ben Barber was born July 7, 1909, near Hughes Springs, Texas.

He was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church of Mansfield. He started teaching when he was 18 years old in a two-room rural school in which Barber taught the primer through sixth grades. His third year of teaching he was principal of his old home school (a three- teacher rural school) for three years. During these years of teaching he attended summer school at East Texas State Teachers College and Texas A&M, receiving his bachelor of science degree in 1935 from Texas A&M and his masters degree from A&M in 1948.

He joined the Baptist church at the age of 16 and at the age of 21 was made deacon of his old home church, where he served until moving to Mansfield. At Mansfield he taught Sunday school class. He taught school for 40 years before retiring, the last 35 being in Mansfield. The Vocational Career Building at Mansfield High School was named in his honor.

Joe Beatty was born April 4, 1937, in Denison. He was the son of Milton and Josephine Beatty. He graduated from Garland High School and attended Southwest Missouri State College before going to work for Kraft Foods (now Alliant Food Service) as a salesman for 31 years.

Mr. Beatty was an Air Force veteran from 1958 to 1962. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Fort Worth and the Kiwanas Club.

She was a member and past president of the Epsilon XI Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, International.

MINERAL WELLS -- Una Joyce Murray, 81, a homemaker, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, in Mineral Wells.

Una Joyce Murray was born Sept. 24, 1915, in Salesville. She was married to Clyde Murray in 1937 in the old Methodist parsonage in Mineral Wells. She and her husband owned and operated Murray's Grill and Murray's Drive Inn since 1941.

Ms. Murray was active in WSCS at First Methodist and was a member of the church all of her life.

Thelma Peterson
RHOME -- Thelma Peterson, 77, a homemaker, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Pallbearers: Jimmy Moran, C.G. Watson, Chuck Longino, Jackie Smith, Bill Jackson and Garland Ham. Thelma Peterson was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Briar. Thelma devoted her entire life as a caregiver to her mother and father-in-law, husband, children and physically challenged son. She was affectionately known as "Big Mama" and was famous for home cooking. From the time she was age 15 until three weeks ago, she cooked lunch for at least a dozen of her "adopted sons." Her hobby was quilting. Her beautiful flower quilts will be cherished by all who own them.

She and her son, Joe, were faithful members of the Aurora Baptist Church. Proverbs 31:10-31 could have been written with her as a role model.

This precious saintly woman will be missed by all who were privileged to know her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Peterson.

She traveled extensively across the country, living at numerous military bases, including Kansas, Florida and California, moving to Fort Worth in 1976 and Abilene in 1991.

She was a homemaker, a member of Brookhollow Christian Church and active in numerous senior citizens groups.
