Victoriano Juarez, Jr., 42, of Barstow, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m., today, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Barstow.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church with burial in Barstow Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Victoriano Juarez, Sr. and Ofelia Juarez of Barstow; two sons, Victor and Joseph Juarez of Monahans; three sisters, Olga Garcia of Pecos, Irene Juarez of Sioux Fall, S.D. and Rachael Juarez of El Paso; six brothers, Joe Juarez of Odessa, Benito Juarez of Barstow, Danny and Israel Juarez of Sioux Fall, S.D., Ismael Juarez of Pecos and Johnny Juarez of Dallas; and one grandchild.

Elbira Olibas, 80, of Monahans, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000 at her residence.

She was born Oct. 23, 1919, in Grandfalls, was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Survivors include three sons, Pascual and Juan Olibas of Monahans and Gome Olibas of Pecos; three daughters, Gloria Hernandez of Monahans, Anita Valencia of Houston and Mary Elma Cavazos of Crane; one brother, Manuel Ortiz of Monahans; one sister, Enriqueta Davila of Monahans; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

John Osborn

John Osborn, 65, of Toyah, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at his residence.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.R. Wooten officiating. Burial will be in Toyah Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 21, 1935, in Toyah, he was a retired farmer, a United States Army veteran who had served in the Korean War and had lived in Pecos since 1994.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include one son, Ray Osborn Keene of Waco; two daughters, Renea Gallagher of Granbury and Denise Schroeder of New Braunfels; six brothers, Charlie, Jim and Joe Osborn of Pecos, Jack Osborn of Toyah, Dan Osborn of Huntsville, Tx. and Jay Walker of Mineral Wells; one sister, Billie Hughes of Junction, and four grandchildren.

Manuel "Bobby" Ortiz, Bitolas, Jr., 56, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, in Pecos.

He was born Oct. 1, 1943, in Pecos, was a lifelong Pecos resident, a member of the Army National Guard, a retired foreman for Pennzoil and a Catholic.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Bitolas.

Survivors include his parents, Manuel "Bibi" and Cruz Bitolas of Pecos; four daughters, Myra Taylor and Nancy Ontiveros of Pecos, Bonnie Garcia of San Antonio and Olivia Castillo of Midland; one brother, Danny Bitolas of Pecos; one sister, Mary "Lila" Bitolas of Midland and seven grandchildren.

Laurencia "Ruena" Chavez, 81, of Wink, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at her residence.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit with Father John Lucido officiating. Burial was in Kermit Cemetery.

She was born March 16, 1919, in Marfa, was a homemaker, a resident of Wink for 56 years and was a Catholic.

Survivors include one son, Jesse Chavez of Lubbock; three daughters, Ramona Hernandez of Wink, Ermalinda Chavez of Pecos, Gloria Gantz of Odessa; one sister, Maria Montez of Stanton; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Yvonne D. Scotti, 85, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at the Pecos Nursing Home.

She was born Aug. 24, 1915, in New York City, was a retired registered nurse and a Catholic.

Survivors include one daughter, Michele Cser of Pecos; one son, Paul L. Hughes of Aurora, Colo.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Harold Eugene Phillips, 80, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at his residence.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 15, at Paul's Memorial Chapel in Hugoton, Kansas, with burial in Hugotan Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 26, 1919, in Hugoton, Kansas, was World War II U.S. Army Veteran, retired, a member of the First Christian Church and a Pecos resident since 1965.

He was preceded in death by one brother and his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl Phillips of Pecos; one son, Woody Phillips of San Antonio; one daughter, Janna Davis and husband, Craig of Pecos; one brother, Eldon Phillips of Hugoton, Kansas; one sister, Elda Lou Main of McKinney, Tx.; one sister-in-law, Maxine Phillips; three grandchildren, Trent Davis of Pecos, Jennifer Jones of Dallas and Courtney Phillips of Kermit; two great-grandchildren, Cambry Jaye Phillips and Matthew Corbin Davis; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ramirez and Yolanda Renteria, of Hacienda Height, Calif.; his mother, Lucia Renteria of El Monte, Calif.; four brothers, Ruben Renteria of San Jose, Calif., Simon Renteria of LaVerne, Calif., and Raymond and George Renteria of El Monte, Calif.; five sisters, Lydia Orona of San Angelo, Frances Castillo of Pecos, Stella Usery of Mont Clair, Calif., Ysabel Renteria of West Covina, Calif. and Angie Cobo of Fontana, Calif., and nine grandchildren.

Carmen Ornelas Sanchez, 84, of Balmorhea, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Reeves County Hospital.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial in Balmorhea Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 18, 1915, in Presidio, was a longtime Balmorhea resident, a homemaker and a Catholic.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary S. Dutchover in 1994.

Survivors include two sons, David Ornelas Sr. and Cecilia of Balmorhea, Joe Ornelas Sanchez of Balmorhea; three daughters, Arsilia S. Carrasco and Rosendo of Balmorhea, Rosario S. Cervantez and Herman of Balmorhea, Carmen S. Meras and Raymond of Odessa; 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Ruth H. Daugherty, 91, of Kerrville, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000 in a Kerrville car center.

She was born May 6, 1909, in Lamkin, had been a Kerrville resident for three years, after residing in Alpine for 12 years and Pecos from 1930 until 1963. She was a retired childcare worker and a member of the Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Daugherty in 1960.

Survivors include one daughter, Sara Smallwood of Los Angeles, Calif.; one son, William Daugherty of Kerrville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Rochelle in Carlsbad, N.M., on July 2, 1992.

She was born Dec. 4, 1912, in Monroe, La., was a homemaker, a Kermit resident for 43 years and a Baptist.

She was born March 4, 1919, in Canadian, Texas, had lived in Pecos since 1951, was a homemaker and a Methodist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John O. Barfield and one daughter, Barbara Nelle Fonville.

Survivors include one son, John Barfield of Garden City; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Beth Boykin

Beth Oden Boykin, 79, of Colonial Heights, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at her residence.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morris and Son Funeral Home. Burial was in Blandford Cemetery.

She was born in Wichita Falls, but grew up in Pecos, where she graduated as valedictorian of Pecos High School in 1938. She then graduated from the Drawn's Business College in Wichita Falls, in 1943, served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was honored for her service by having her name inscribed on the Women's National Memorial at Washington D.C. She was a retired civil service employee with the Quartermaster and Consolidated Supply at Fort Lee, Va. She was Past Worthy Matron of Alpha Chapter #1 Order of the Eastern Star and a longtime member of the Walnut Hill Baptist Church in Petersburg, Va.

One sister, Quinnie Bell Oden Henson, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Alton Boykin, Jr. of Petersburg, Va.; one daughter, Brenda Marie Boykin Thompson of Colonial Heights, Va.; two brothers, Bill Oden of Pecos and John E. Oden of New York City; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ted Dickerson Cousins, 85, of Cleburne, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000.

A graveside "Remembrance" will be observed at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Dickerson family plot, near the Washington Street entrance of Cleburne Memorial Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Cleburne and was a former Pecos resident. After a 1938 graduation from Texas State College for Women, she lived and worked in Midland for many years. She returned to the Granbury/Cleburne area in the early 1970's.

Cousins was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Hart Bates and Mariellen Dickerson Peyton, and one brother, C.D. Dickerson, Jr.

Survivors include one sister, Rebecca Nell Dickerson of Houston; three nieces and two nephews.

Rafael Ochoa

Rafael J. Ochoa, 39, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, in Santa Anna, Michocoan, Mex.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 11, in Santa Anna.

He was born Jan. 8, 1961, in Santa Anna, was co-owner of Speedy's Family Diner, lived in Pecos for seven years and worked for Western Geophysical Baker Hughes.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Gabaldon of Pecos; his mother, Micaela Ochoa of Michocoan, Mexico; four sisters, Guadalupe Munguia of Guadalajara, Mexico, Adelina Ochoa of Santa Barbara, Calif., Irene Ochoa of Santa Anna, Michocoan and Rosio Ochoa of Santa Anna, Michocoan; one brother, Arturo Ochoa of Santa Anna, Michocoan.

Juan Rey

Juan Rey, 66, of Pecos, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Reeves County Hospital.

Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 17, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Balmorhea Cemetery.

He was born Nov. 24, 1933, in Toyah, was a construction worker, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

He was preceded in death by one son, Curtis Wayne Rey, on Oct. 30, 1961 and two brothers, Thomas and Gilbert Rey.

Survivors include his wife, Petronila Sanchez Garcia; one step-son, Bobby Caprerra; three daughters, Betty Rey Lozano of Balmorhea, Peggy Rey Hougham of El Paso and Delfa Rodriguez of Pecos; one brother, Alfredo Rey of Midland; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Jaime Valles

Jaime Armando Valles, 68, of Pecos, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Odessa Medical Center Hospital, following a long illness.

He will be taken to San Antonio Del Bravo, Mex., and burial will be in San Antonio Del Bravo Cemetery.

He was born May 31, 1932, in San Antonio Del Bravo, Mex., was a laborer in agriculture, a longtime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Jesus Socorro Valles, Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Juana V. Valles of San Antonio Del Bravo, Mex.; two sons, Jaime A. Valles, Jr. of Ojinaga, Mex., and Cruz V. Valles of Dumas; one daughter, Melva V. Reyes of Pecos; two brothers, Tomas R. Valles, Jr. and Jose R. Valles of Pecos; five sisters, Olivia V. Romo and Maria Luisa V. Medina of Pecos, Elauteria V. Valeriano of Ojinaga, Mex., Maria V. Martinez was born April 19, 1933 in Presidio and died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston after a long illness. She was a longtime resident of Pecos, was retired from the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD and was a Catholic.

Funeral Services for Maria Felix "Fela" Reyes, 68, of Pecos will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Santa Rosa Catholic Church, with burial at Santa Rosa Cemetery under the direction of Pecos Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

She was born on July 12, 1932 in Presidio and died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was a homemaker, had lived in Pecos since 1949 and was a Catholic.

Survivors include her husband, Pedro "Pete" Reyes of Pecos; one son, Alfredo Reyes of Pecos; two daughters, Ann Herrera of San Diego, Calif., and Manuela Reyes of Pecos; two brothers, Willie Alaniz and Manuel Alaniz, both of Pecos; four sisters, Macaria A. Armando H. Granado, Sr., 66, of Pecos, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at Odessa Medical Center Hospital.

Mass was held at 10 a.m., today, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born March 22, 1934, in Sierra Blanca, was a U.S. Army veteran, had lived in Pecos since 1950 and was retired.

He was preceded in death by a brother Rolando Granado and a sister, Lilia Canas.

Survivors include his wife, Modesta Granado of Pecos; one son, Mondi Granado of Pecos; two daughters, Anna Chavez of Arlington, Coach Becky Granado of Pecos; five brothers, Francisco and Arnulfo Granado of Pecos, Simon Granado of El Paso, Ramon Hernandez of Hobbs, N.M., Oscar Granado of Big Spring; two sisters, Emma Morales of Kermit, Consuelo Luedtke of South Dakota; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jodell Hannah

Jodell Hannah, 53, of Breckenridge, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, in Mineral Wells.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug 27, with Lessie Woody Woodard officiating. Burial was in Breckenridge Cemetery.

He was born June 1, 1947, in Archer City, and grew up in Pecos. He was a Vietnam veteran, having served on the U.S.S. Constellation in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1968. He retired in 1998 from Dynegy in Oklahoma City, where he was an Operations Manager of Crude Oil Trucking. He moved to Breckenridge a year ago from Oklahoma City and was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie Young and one brother, Radell Hannah.

Survivors include his wife, Rayma Hannah of Breckenridge; one son, John Hannah of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Casey Dawn Hannah of Oklahoma City; his father, Odell Hannah of Waxahachie; two sisters, Donna Jannel Woodard of Pecos and Debbie Ann Rater of Antelope, one grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Gilbert D. "Blue Boy" Ortega, 60, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at Midland Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., today at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in Midland, with Jo Albert Fuentes officiating.

He was born July 31, 1940 in Pecos, grew up and was educated in Pecos and had lived in Midland for the past 10 years.

He was preceded in death by his a sister, Mary A. Ornelas.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Ortega of Odessa; three sons, Ricky Ortega of Las Vegas, Gilbert Ortega, Jr. and Romeo Ortega of Odessa; two daughters, Belinda Ortega of Lake Dallas and Janette Ortega of Odessa; three brothers, Herman Ortega of Abilene, Tony Jares of Irving and Jerry Jares of Dayton; four sisters, Yolanda Fuentes and Candy Martinez of Midland, Debbie Gomez of Andrews and Sandy Ortega of El Paso; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
