2000 in Bowie Memorial Hospital
Mrs. Pennington was born on August 3, 1918 in McCloud, Oklahoma. She
married James Frank Pennington on February 2, 1935 in Ft. Townsend, OK
who preceded her in death on December 12, 1978. She was a homemaker and
member of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 10, 2000 in Jerry Woods
Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Rod Messer officiated services with interment
being in Nocona Cemetery. Her grandsons were pallbearers.
Surviving relatives include her two sons, James Junior Pennington,
Big Spring, TX and Billy Ray Pennington, Nocona, TX; two daughters, Lottie
Beth Goff, Muskogee, OK and Patsy Ann Basaldua, Nocona, TX; 21 grandchildren;
38 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren and four great-great-great
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Jackie Franklin
Pennington, Kenneth Wayne Pennington and Charles Columbus Pennington.
Idus Gregg
Idus Gregg, 91, of Bridgeport, TX passed away on June 7, 2000 in the
Decatur Community Hospital.
Idus Gregg was born on December 5, 1908 in Wise County, TX in Willow
Point Community. Idus had resided in the Bridgeport community since 1950.
She was a homemaker and a member of The Twin Oaks Assembly of God.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 9, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at
the Twin Oaks Assembly of God, Bridgeport, TX with Bro. Gary Sessions officiating
under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home. Interment was in the Willow
Point Cemetery. Pallbearers were Russell Gregg, Jody Gregg, Randy Dunn,
Reggie McWilliams, Gregg McWilliams and Paul McWilliams. Honorary pallbearers
were Jason Billington, Mark & David Helton, Kenneth Ray Dunn and Donny
Bush.
Surviving relatives include her son, Jean Gregg and his wife Barbara;
three daughters, Billie Billington and husband Wayne, Mary Shellnut and
husband Bill, and Lena McWilliams; 13 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren;
and 15 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Joe in 1991; one grandson, Don Billington; one granddaughter, Darlene Dunn;
one brother, two sisters; and two son-in-laws, Kenneth Dunn & Mickey
McWilliams.
George Herbert Shepard
George Herbert Shepard, 86, of Poolville, Texas passed away on June
7, 2000 in his residence.
Mr. Shepard was born on July 5, 1913 in Speedville, TN. He married
the late Bertha Fay Gabriel Shepard in 1941 in Palo Pinto. He was a truck
driver and a member of the Baptist faith.
Graveside services were held on Friday June 9, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. in
the Boonsville Cemetery, Boonsville, TX. Minister Warren Crothers officiated
the service under the direction of Coker Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include four sons, David Shepard, Chico, Texas,
Edward Shepard, Boonsville, Texas, George Shepard, Mineral Wells, Texas,
and Richard Shepard, Canton, Texas; two daughters, Mary Erdhal, Spirit
Lake Idaho and Gladys Hill, Mangum, Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; 18 great
grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Doris Lawdermilk, 73, of Bowie passed away on June 2, 2000 at her residence.
Mrs. Lawdermilk was born on March 6, 1927 in Bowie, TX and was a lifetime
resident. She graduated from Bowie High School in 1944. She was a member
of the First Baptist Church of Bowie, TX.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2000 in
the First Baptist Church, Bowie, TX. Dr. Ronnie Lawson officiated the services
under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home. Interment
was in Elmwood Cemetery, Bowie, TX. Pallbearers were Craig Rhyne, T. R.
Rhyne, Adam Rhyne, Chris Rhyne, and Monty Beggs.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Charlotte Erfurt, Bandera,
TX and Sue Tune, Bowie, TX; one son, David Lawdermilk, Bowie, TX; one brother,
Jimmy Hamilton, Bowie, TX; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Buddy Lawdermilk, 1996 and one
sister Iris Rhyne.

James Sanford George, 57, of Decatur, TX passed away on June 2, 2000
in his residence.
James George was born on July 22, 1942 in Seymour, TX. He was a member
of the Baptist faith. He married Audrey Lee Chapin in 1991 in Baltimore,
Maryland. He was in the roofing and construction industry.
Services were held on Sunday, June 11, 2000 at 4:00 p.m. in the family
residence. Minister Warren Carruthers officiated services under the direction
of Coker Funeral Home.

James Lelon Wolfe, 41, of Bridgeport, Texas passed away on Sunday, June
4, 2000 in a Fort Worth Hospital.
Mr. Wolfe was born on January 29, 1959 in Hobbs, New Mexico. James
worked as the Executive Vice President of Emergency Fire Protection Systems
of Fort Worth, Texas. He was a member of the Texas Fire Sprinkler Association.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at 10:30 a.m.
in the First Baptist Church, Bridgeport, Texas. Dr. Bill Dye officiated
the services under direction of Hawkins Funeral Home. Interment was held

Tammie Diane Lawrence, age 32 of Nocona, TX passed away on Sunday, October
1, 2000 in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mrs. Lawrence was formerly employed at Nocona Boot Co., the Montague
County Shopper and Memories Tea Room.
Services were held on Tuesday, October 3, 2000 at 2:00 PM at Abundant
Life Church with Rev. Rod Messer officiating.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Lawrence; one son, Bradley of
Nocona ; three daughters, Chelsea, Brittany, and Madison, all of Nocona;
one sister, Lorie Hogan Sparks of Nocona; two brothers, William (Bill)
and John Hogan, both of Nocona; three stop-brothers, Jacob York of Marble
Fall, TX, Clinton York and Cody York, both of Portland, TN; her mother
and step dad, Rose and Mike Woods of Nocona; father and step-mother, William
and Jani Hogan of Portland, TN; and her grandfather, Sam Hill of Nocona.
Auda Richardson
Mrs. Auda Richardson, age 97 of Bowie passed away on September 20, 2000
at United Regional HCC, 11th Street in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Mrs. Richardson was born on October 14, 1902 in Springtown, Texas.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in
Bowie. Mrs. Richardson had been a resident of Bowie for 52 years and a
lifetime resident of Montague County.
Services were held on Saturday, September 23, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at
First United Methodist Church in Bowie, officiated by Rev. Chuck Aaron
and Rev. Darrell Brown. Interment was held at Salona Cemetery under the
direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.
Survivors include one son, M.D. "Doyle" Richardson, Bowie; three daughters,
Mrs. Joyce May of Hurst, TX; Mrs. Jean Bridgewater of Bowie; and Mrs. Patsy
Plaxco of Spring, TX; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great
grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Harvey Richardson, Sr.; one son, H.A. Richardson, Jr.;
and one daughter, Jo Ann Stone.

Jimmy Lindsey Dennis
Jimmy Lindsey Dennis, age 57 of Saint Jo, Texas passed away on September
30, 2000 in St. Paul Hospital in Dallas.
Mr. Dennis was born on December 19, 1942 in Grand Prairie, Texas. He
was a member of the Saint Jo Church of Christ and was very strong in his
faith. He lived most of his life in Saint Jo and was a family man, loving
husband, father & grandfather. He was an avid fisherman, entering numerous
bass tournaments and winning many of them, prior to becoming ill. He worked
several years in metal construction.
Services were held on Tuesday, October 3, 2000 at 2:00 PM at the Church
of Christ in Saint Jo. Officiating clergymen were Chester Cullum and C.E.
Cole. Burial was held in Buffalo Springs Cemetery under the direction of
McCoy Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Dennis of Saint Jo; two sons, Jimmy
Dennis, Jr. and Michael Dennis, both of Saint Jo; three grandchildren,
Ashley, Morgan & Colby Dennis of Saint Jo; his mother, Alta Raye Dennis
of Saint Jo; two sisters, Lucy Thomas of San Antonio and Helen Bryce of
Saint Jo; two brothers, Jack Dennis of Gainesville and Charles Dennis of
Saint Jo; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; extended family

of Saint Jo. He was preceded in death by his father, H.L. Dennis.

Tommy Ray Collier
Mr. Tommy Ray Collier, age 73 of Saint Jo, Texas passed away on October
1, 2000 in Muenster Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Collier was born on January 23, 1927 in Saint Jo, Texas. He was
a Veteran of World War II and a lifelong resident and rancher in Saint
Jo and Montague County. He enjoyed people, traveling and especially woodworking
before becoming ill in 1997.
Services were held on Monday, October 2, 2000 at The Chapel on Main
Street (Old Presbyterian Church) in Saint Jo. Officiating clergyman was
C.E. Cole. Burial was held in Mountain Park Cemetery in Saint Jo under
the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Survivors include one brother, Sam Collier of Wichita Falls; close
friend, Weldon Martin of Saint Jo. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Jim & Billie Perry Pace Collier.

Mrs. Fern Howard, age 69 of Bowie passed away on Tuesday, October 31,
2000 at Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Howard was born on August 28, 1931 in Spanish Fort, Texas. She
was a homemaker.
Services were held on Friday, November 3, 2000 at 2:00 PM at Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley
Chapel in Bowie with the Rev. Mike Henderson officiating. Burial was held
in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral
Home.

Elizie Lee "L." Pittman
Mr. Elizie Lee "L." Pittman, age 86 of Sunset, Texas passed away on
Tuesday, November 7 at Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Pittman was born on September 1, 1914 in Durant, Oklahoma. He was
a member of the Sunset Assembly of God Church. He was a member of the Reddy-McClellan
VFW Post #8789 in Bowie. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was
awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his heroic and mertious service.
He married Laverene Blaylock on November 2, 1936 in Sunset.
Services were held on Thursday, November 9, 2000 at 2:30 PM at the
First Baptist Church in Sunset with Rev. Charles Reed, the Rev. M.L. Milton
and the Rev. Ernie Patterson officiating. Burial was held in Smyrna Cemetery
in Sunset under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Laverne Pittman of Sunset; three daughters,
Elaine Kasner of Bridgeport and Elwanda Turlington and Eloise Willett of
Sunset, Texas; two sons, Curtis Pittman of Sheridan, Texas and Keith Pittman

Leon B. Jones
Mr. Leon B. Jones, age 71 of Wichita Falls, Texas passed away on Saturday,
November 11, 2000 at Hospice Center in Wichita Falls.
Mr. Jones was born on January 9, 1929 in Ryan, Oklahoma. He was a longtime
resident of Bowie, Texas before moving to Wichita Falls, Texas 2 years
ago. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Jones was a retired owner
of Oilfield Construction Company.
Services were held on Monday, November 13, 2000 at 2:00 PM at Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley
Chapel in Bowie with the Rev. Larry Cox officiating. Burial was held in
Elmwood Cemetery.
Survivors include his two sons, Steven Leon Jones of Conroe, Texas
and Richard Alan Jones of Ganada, Texas; one daughter, Cynthia Allen of
Ganada, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; three sisters,
Mattie Dorman and Gladys Thompson, both of Bowie, and Espea Wright of Waurika,
Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Marion Franklin and Dora
Jane Jones; and three brothers, Agee Jones, Troy Jones and Babe Jones.

Eva May McKee
Mrs. Eva May McKee, age 83 of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away on Sunday,
November 5, 2000 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Mrs. McKee was born on June 24, 1917 in Burleson, Texas. She was a
homemaker. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Bowie, Texas.
She married John Robert Epps in 1939 at Burleson, Texas. Mr. Epps passed
away in 1945. She married William Thomas McKee in April 1947 in Denton,
Texas. Mr. McKee passed away in 1989.
Services were held on Friday, November 10, 2000 at 2:30 PM at Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley
Chapel in Bowie with the Rev. Darius McKay officiating. Burial was held
in Elmwood Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter, Christine Epps Thompson of Tuscaloosa,
Alabama; two grandsons, Thomas Lee Thompson of Bryan, Texas and Robert
Kern Thompson of Whitewright, Texas; five great grandchildren, Cody Ryan
Thompson of Stevenville, Texas, Christy Ann Argumaniz, Amber Michele Lupas,

of Whitewright, Texas; one great granddaughter and numerous nieces and

She was preceeded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Epps.

John William Conner
John William Conner, age 81 of Bowie, TX, passed away on January 19,
2001 in Bowie Memorial Hospital in Bowie, TX.
Mr. Conner was born on October 16, 1919 in Waxachachie, TX to Drew
and Ida Conner. He was a member of the Carter Lake Baptist Church in Bowie
where he was a member of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class and was an
usher. He was a longtime resident of Roswell, NM before moving to Bowie
13 years ago. He married Alice Huff on June 18, 1972 in Roswell, NM.
Services for Mr. Conner were held on Monday, January 22, 2001 at 2:00
p.m. at the Carter Lake Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Redus and the
Rev. Ben Wiseman officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery under the
direction of Burgess - Fry - Owens - Brumley Funeral Home.
Survivors include: wife, Alice H. Conner of Bowie, TX; four daughters,
Elsie Vinyard of Grand Prairie, TX, Mrs. Kaye Burdick of Bowie, TX, Shelba
Murray of Norman, OK, and Wanda Keil of Canal Winchester, OH; two sons,
Charles Wright of El Cajon, CA and Franklin Jones of Washington, MO; four
sisters, Gertrude Smith, Thelma Ruffin, and Margaret Stevens, all of Ennis,
TX, and Dale Spurgeon of Levelland, TX; and 19 grandchildren, 20 great
grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virgil Deweber, 84, of Bowie, TX passed away on January 20, 2001 at
Bellmire Home in Bowie, TX.
Mr. Deweber was born on December 31, 1916 in Newport, TX. He was a
retired truck driver and a member of the Baptist faith. He married Evelyn
Parker on August 16, 1939 at Henrietta, TX.
Graveside services for Mr. Deweber were held on Tuesday, January 23,
2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Newport Cemetery in Newport, TX with Rev. Walter
McCall officiating. Services were directed by Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley
Funeral Home of Bowie, TX.

Ozelle Welch, 85, of Henrietta, TX passed away on January 21, 2001 at
United Regional HCC in Wichita Falls, TX.
Mrs. Welch was born on April 13, 1915 in Buffalo Springs, TX. She was
a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Henrietta.
She married William T. "Bill" Welch on June 3, 1933 at Waurika, Oklahoma.
Mr. Welch passed away in 1991.
Funeral services for Mrs. Welch were held on Tuesday, January 23, 2001
at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Henrietta, TX with
Rev. Valerie Mireb officiating. Interment was held in Vashti Cemetery in
Vashti, Texas.

Oma Ovella Wyler
Oma Ovella Wyler, 95, of Nocona, TX passed away on January 24, 2001
at Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Wyler was born on April 13, 1905 in Thurber, TX to Christopher
Henry and Ollie Greenstreet Glenn. She was a nursery worker in the church
for many years and a cook for Nocona Independent School District for 15
years. She married Homer H. Wyler of February 14, 1928 in Davidson, OK.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wyler were held on Friday, January 26, 2001
at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Orville Rogers officiating.
Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery.
Surviving relatives include: five daughters, Wanda Russell, Clara Breeze,
and Patricia O’Neal, all of Nocona, TX, Peggy Uselton and Mary Humphries,
both of Graham, TX; one daughter-in-law, Billie Wyler; four sisters, Lavelle
Hornbeck, Ellen, Bonnie Willett, all of Oklahoma City, OK, and Juanita
Sampley of Gotebo, OK; one brother, Harvey L. Pat Glenn of Oklahoma City,
OK; and 13 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Wyler was preceded in death by her husband, Homer H. Wyler on
8-21-66; and one son, Homer L. "Buddy" Wyler on 2-4-94.

Billy Doyce Gaston
Billy Doyce Gaston, age 73 of Saint Jo, TX, passed away on January 25,
2001 in Muenster Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Gaston was born on April 28, 1927 in Montague Co., TX to Elmer
James and Della Ferguson Gaston. He was born and raised and lived in the
Saint Jo area all of his life except with working in the oilfield. He was
a plumber for over 40 years. Mr. Gaston was a family man and really enjoyed
his grandchildren. He really enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching sports.
He married Peggy Jo Sandlin on October 26, 1949 in Gainesville, TX.
Services for Mr. Gaston were held on Saturday, January 27, 2001 at
McCoy Funeral Home Chapel in Saint Jo with Rev. Ricky Kerr officiating.
Burial was in Union Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Survivors include: his wife, Peggy Gaston of Saint Jo, TX; two daughters,
Tracy Lynn Davis of Saint Jo, TX and Tammy Morris of Paul’s Valley, OK;
one son, Mike Gaston of Rowlett, TX; one brother, Jimmy Gaston of Grandview,
TX; and six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Pamela Gayle;
and one son, Eric Dale Gaston.

Jake Robbins, age 61 of Forestburg, TX, passed away on January 21, 2001
in Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Robbins was born on January 27, 1939 in Nocona, TX to Raymond and
Beulah Robbins. He was a member of the Church of Christ faith. He was a
lifetime member of the Reddy-McClellan VFW Post #8789 in Bowie. Mr. Robbins
was a longtime resident of Bridgeport, Chico and Sunset, TX before moving
to Forestburg one year ago.
Graveside services for Mr. Robbins were held on Wednesday, January
24, 2001 at 4:00 p.m. at the Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Jamie Reed officiating.
Burial was under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: three daughters, Deborah Sue Tadlock of
Panama City, FL, Theresa Ann Hoepfner of Henrietta, TX, and Angela Dawn
Robbins of Chicago, IL; five step-daughters, Teresa Kay Little, Lori Cade,
Louise Glasgow, and LaDonna Chamberlain, all of Wichita Falls, and Cindy
Wells of Lake Arrowhead, TX; two sisters, Ruth Walker and Alice Robbins

Mr. Robbins was preceded in death by one son, Richard Carl Robbins,
Jr. and his parents.

Glena J. Walsh
Glena J. Walsh, age 76 of Bowie, TX, passed away on January 24, 2001
in Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Walsh was born on October 12, 1924 in Bowie. She was a homemaker
and a member of the Central Baptist Church in Bowie. She married William
Charles Walsh on April 5, 1947 in Henrietta. Mr. Walsh passed away in 1984.
Graveside services for Mrs. Walsh were held on Sunday, January 28,
2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. Paul A. Henderson officiating.
Burial was under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Walsh was preceded in death by her parents, Earl & Gladys

Buna Clark
Buna Clark, age 90 of Bowie, TX, passed away on January 24, 2001 in
Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Clark was born on June 7, 1910 in Stoneburg, TX. She was a retired
school teacher and a member of the First Baptist Church in Bowie. She married
Welden A "Bud" Clark on December 24, 1931 in Bowie, TX.
Services for Mrs. Clark were held on Saturday, January 27, 2001 at
2:00 p.m. at the Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home in Bowie with Rev.
Dick Hennings officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction
of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: husband, Weldon A. "Bud" Clark of Bowie,
TX; one son, Jim Clark of Argyle, TX; one daughter, Sue Garcia of Atlanta,
GA; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Michael Earl Myers
Michael Earl Myers, age 53 of Bowie, TX, passed away on January 20,
2001 in Bowie Nursing Center.
Mr. Myers was born on August 4, 1947 in Ft. Worth, TX. He worked from
1967 to 1978 in the Houston-Galveston area as a carpenter before moving
to Bowie in 1978. He was a carpenter and plumber in Bowie until he became
disabled in 1985.
A memorial service for Mr. Myers was held on Saturday, January 27,
2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Lawson
officiating. He was cremated.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Wade Myers of Bowie, TX; one
daughter, Denise Truax of Bowie, TX; six grandchildren; parents, Robert
"Bob" and Mary Myers of Bowie, TX; two sisters, Carol Williams of Ft. Worth,
TX and Bobbie Johnson, Alvardo, TX; one brother, Gene Myers of Hurst, TX;

Eula Deaton
Eula Deaton, age 85 of Bowie, TX, passed away on January 26, 2001 in
Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Deaton was born on November 18, 1915 at Harrison, AK. She was
a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God faith. She and W.R. "Bill"
Deaton were married on April 17, 1937 in Loco, OK. Mr. Deaton passed away
on May 10, 1998.
Services for Mrs. Deaton were held on Monday, January 29, 2001 at 10:00
a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Loco, OK with Rev. Randy Southerland
officiating. Burial was in the Loco Cemetery in Loco, OK under the direction
of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Kenneth Deaton of Bowie, TX;
one step-son, Billy Bob Deaton of Comanche, OK; four grandchildren and

Walter Russell Johnson
Walter Russell Johnson, age 78 of Bowie, TX, passed away on January
25, 2001 in Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Johnson was born on January 17, 1923 in Salona, TX. He was a retired
aircraft mechanic and a member of the Carter Lake Road Church of Christ
in Bowie. He served in the U.S. Army for three years in the Pacific Theatre
during WWII. He married Rosalinde Barbara Roth on June 30, 1942 in Bowie,
TX.
Services for Mr. Johnson were held on Monday, January 29, 2001 at 2:00
p.m. at the Carter Lake Church of Christ with Rev. David Hall officiating.
Burial was in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley
Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Linda Johnson of Bowie, TX;
two daughters, Gloria Bell of Tuscola, TX and Doria Counts of Graham, TX;

Janet Draper, 35, of Alvord, TX passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2001.
Ms. Draper was born on March 12, 1966 in Dallas, TX. She was a homemaker
and a longtime resident of Lake Dallas, TX.

Tommy Jaye (Tom) Larison
Tommy Jaye (Tom) Larison, 66, of Nocona, TX passed away on March 27,
2001 in a Dallas Hospital.
Mr. Larison was born on December 2, 1934 in Terral, OK to George and
Willie L. Titsworth Larison. Mr. Larison married Retha Taylor on July 1,
1954 in Gainesville, TX. He was a retired Chief Warrant Officer of the
U.S. Army and a member of the Church of Christ. He was formerly a member
of the Nocona Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral services from Mr. Larison were held on Saturday, March 31,
2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ with ministers Guy Orbison and
Dale Scott and Reverend Bryan Parks officiating. Interment was held at
Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home.
Survivors include: his wife, Retha Larison, Nocona, TX; two daughters,
Pam Ross, Nocona, TX, and Cindy Womack, Nocona, TX; two sisters, Thelma
Poindextor, Lubbock, TX, and Ruby Reynolds, Terral, OK; three brothers,
George Larison, Nocona, TX, Calvin Larison, Alvarado, TX, and Bill Larison,

Stella Mae Roper, 88, of Longview, TX, formerly of Nocona,passed away
on March 28, 2001 in Longview, TX.
Mrs. Roper was born on April 20, 1912 in Montague County, TX to Edwin
and Lillie Mae Underwood Kindsfather. She was a homemaker and a member
of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services for Mrs. Roper were held on Friday, March 30, 2001

Interment was held at Nocona Cemetery.

Christopher Noah Belcher, 23 days, of Bellevue, TX passed away on March
29, 2001 at Cook Childrens Medical Center in Fort Worth, TX.
Christopher Belcher was born on March 6, 2001 in Wichita Falls, TX
to Larry Glynn and Meshelle Pendergraft Belcher.

Elmo Bennett
Elmo Bennett, 80, of Bowie, TX passed away on March 28, 2001 at Bellmire
Home in Bowie.
Mr. Bennett was born on October 23, 1920 in Mallard, TX. He was a retired
building contractor. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in
Bowie and a member of the Bowie Masonic Lodge #578 A.F. & A.M. He served
in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 until 1944 during WWII. Mr. Bennett
married Martha Baer on March 2, 1946 in Alamogardo, NM. She passed away
on November 4, 1999.
Services for Mr. Bennett were held on March 31, 2001 at 10:30 a.m.
at Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home with Rev. Gail Zoya officiating.

Frank E. Reardon
Frank E. Reardon, 62, of Decatur, TX passed away on March 31, 2001 at
Wise Regional Health System in Decatur.
Mr. Reardon was born on July 19, 1938 in Abilene, TX. He was a retired
automobile mechanic. Mr. Reardon was a member of the Baptist faith. He
married Charlene Cross on January 1, 1991 in Las Vegas, NV.
Graveside services for Mr. Reardon were held on April 2, 2001 at 3:00
p.m. at Vashti Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Anderson officiating. The services
were under the direction of Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.

Alice Evelyn Thomas
Alice Evelyn Thomas, age 81 of Nocona, TX passed away on May 27, 2001
at a Nocona nursing home.
Mrs. Thomas was born November 26, 1919 in Montague County, Texas. She
worked in the church nursery for over 20 years and at Nocona Leathergoods
for five years. She was a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church, Fidelis
Sunday School Class and W.M.U. Her husband, Mr. Ernest Wesley Thomas passed
away August 8, 1970.
Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas will be held on Wednesday, May 30,
2001 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Lamoin Champ officiating,
under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home. Burial will be in Nocona
Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Allen of Nocona; three sons,
Lloyd Thomas of Saint Jo, Earnest Lynn Thomas of Chico, and Lewis Thomas
of Nocona; two brothers, Clarence Elliot of Dallas and Walter Elliot of
Comanche, OK; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; Mrs. Thomas
was preceded in death by one grandson, Chris Thomas.

Clara Olena Sterling
Mrs. Clara Olena Sterling, age 84 of Nocona, TX passed away on May
20, 2001 at home.
Mrs. Sterling was born March 24, 1917 in DeKalb County, Alabama to
Arthur Adolphus Brown and Maranda Frances Whited, both deceased. She married
Lillard Hugh Sterling January 2, 1936 in Saint Jo, TX. She was a homemaker
and a member of Valley View Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at 2:30 PM at
Scott Morris Chapel with Rev. Tommy Lamascus officiating. Burial was at
Spanish Fort Cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Pat Prater of Stoneburg, Brenda
Hill of Keller, TX and Sandra Kennedy of Nocona; six grandchildren, 12
great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lillard Hugh Sterling.

Iris Lee Tucker
Mrs. Iris Lee Tucker, age 88 of Lake Worth passed away on May 21, 2001
at a Fort Worth Hospital.
Mrs. Tucker was born February 4, 1913 in Nocona, TX. She retired from
the Lake Worth School District as a dietition in the early 1970s.
Graveside services were held on Thursday, May 24, 2001 at 1:00 PM at
Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Biggers Funeral Home and Scott-Morris
Funeral home.
Survivors include one son, Mike Tucker of Lakeside; three daughters,
Peggy Jean "Jeanie" Dodgin of Joshua, TX, Louise Tucker Baker of Wichita
Falls, and Betty Marie Grant of Rankin, TX; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Tucker in November
1992.
Wayne E. Waters
Mr. Wayne E. Waters, 74, of Wichita Falls, TX passed away on August
2, 2001 at United Regional Healthcare.
Mr. Waters was born on October 30, 1926 in Duncan, OK. He married Glenna
B. Keck on April 26, 1945 in Waurika, OK. He was a heavy equipment mechanic
for Darr. He was a member of the Baptist faith and served during WWII in
the Army.
Funeral services for Mr. Waters were held on Saturday, August 4, 2001
at 11:00 a.m. in the Scott-Morris Chapel with Rev. Bernie Gallagher officiating.
Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery.

Wilma McBride
Wilma McBride, 56, of Fort Worth, TX passed away on October 10, 2001
at All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth, TX.
Mrs. McBride was born on July 7, 1945 in Bowie, TX. She grew up in
Sunset, TX and attended Bowie High School where she graduated in 1963.
She was treasurer of her senior class and was very active in planning and
decorating for class reunions. She attended the Carter Lake Road Church
of Christ Church in Bowie and was also activity director at the Bowie Nursing
Home. She retired from Bowie Nursing Center as a dietary supervisor.
Graveside services for Mrs. McBride were held on Saturday, October
13, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery with Bud Branson officiating.
Services were directed by Fry Funeral Home of Bowie.
Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Miss Kendra McBride, Pendleton,
Oregon and Mrs. Bobbie Walstrom, Bowie, TX; three sons, Jerry McBride,
Beaumont, TX, Ray McBride, Bullard, TX and Randy McBride, Bowie, TX; six
grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Hayes, Abilene, TX and Charles Hayes,
Wichita Falls, TX; one sister, Pat Roland, Fort Worth, TX; and several
nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister,
Judy McGee in 2001.
George Lewis Hensley
George Lewis Hensley, 88, of Ringgold, TX passed away on October 12,
2001.
Mr. Hensley was born on November 11, 1912 in Pilot Point, TX to Lewis
Napoleon and Lillie Indiana Reynolds Hensley. He married Mable Leona England
Hensley. He was a railroad section foreman with MKT and Rock Island where
he retired.
Funeral services for Mr. Hensley were held on Sunday, October 14, 2001
at 1:30 p.m. at Scott-Morris Chapel with Tommy Lamascus officiating. Interment
was held at Collinsville Cemetery in Collinsville, TX.

Luraline (Lura) Marutzky Reed
Luraline Marutzky Reed, also known as Lura, 91, of Carlsbad, TX passed
away on October 11, 2001 at San Angelo State School.
Mrs. Reed was born on July 27, 1910 in Wilson, OK to Herman and Annie
Richardson Marutzky. She married Ted K. Reed in Armore, OK in 1932. She
was formally of Belcherville, TX. Mrs. Reed was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services for Mrs. Reed were held on Monday, October 15, 2001
at 1:00 p.m. at Scott Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bryan Parks
officiating. Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery.
Survivors include: four daughters, Betty Jean Reed, Abilene, TX, Carolyn
Cole, Cleveland, TX, Theyra A. Ward, San Angelo, TX, Teddy Lou Ragsdale,
Fort Worth, TX; one son, Donald Lee Reed, Kingsland, TX; six grandchildren;
and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Ted Reed on August 13, 1973.
Dannie Ray Orrell
Dannie Ray Orrell, 67, passed away on October 11, 2001 at his residence
in Nocona.
Mr. Orrell was born September 11, 1934 in Nocona, Texas. He was an
independent oil man and was a member of the Nocona Hills Community Church.
Services for Mr. Orrell were held Sunday, October 14, 2001 at 2:30
p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Nocona with the Pastor Lee
Lucas officiating. Interment followed at Shady Grove cemetery under the
direction of Scott Morris Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Barbara Orrell, Nocona; three
daughters, Debbie Smith, Nocona; Beckie Gammons, Sachse, Texas and Denise
Mitchell, Winnesboro, Texas; one sister, Betty Boyles, Amarillo, Texas;

Bessie Katherine Collins
Bessie Katherine Collins, 76, of Bowie, TX passed away on October 10,
2001 at Bowie Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Collins was born on September 22, 1925 in Beeville, TX. She was
a retired seamstress for Story Manufacturing. She was a resident of Palmer,
Texas before a resident of Mansfield, TX for 17 years before moving to
Bowie, TX two months ago. Mrs. Collins attended the First Baptist Church
in Palmer, TX and enjoyed quilting, embroidery and gardening.
Funeral services for Mrs. Collins were held on Saturday, October 13,
2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Fry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dick Hennings officiating.
Interment was held in Elmwood Cemetery.

Alice Faye Kittrell
Alice Faye Kittrell, 67, of Lockport, IL passed away on October 9, 2001
at Joliett, IL.
Mrs. Kittrell was born on September 6, 1934 in McClain, TX. Mrs. Kittrell
was a member of the Pentecostal faith. She married Clarence E. Kittrell,
Sr. on March 5, 1950 at Gainesville, TX. She was a longtime resident of
Bowie, TX before moving to Lockport, IL one year ago. She was a retired
licensed vocational nurse.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kittrell were held on Saturday, October 13,
2001 at 4:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Assembly of God Church with Rev. Greg Newton
officiating. Interment was held in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction
of Fry Funeral Home of Bowie.
Surviving relatives include: four sons, C. E. "Cheech" Kittrell, Jr.,
Gainesville, TX, Randy, Jimmy and Ralph Kittrell, all of Bowie; one daughter,
Deborah Miller, Lockport, IL; nineteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren;
one sister, Laura Kirkland, Abilene, TX; four brothers, Willard "Bill"
Smith, Tomball, TX, Judd Smith, Enid, OK, V. L. "Bunk" Smith, Vidor, TX,
J. G. Smith, Alice, TX; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Kittrell on January 7, 1986.
Henry Pace
Henry Pace, age 88 of Bowie, Texas, passed away on December 1, 2001
at Bowie Memorial Hospital in Bowie.
Mr. Pace was born on August 15, 1913 in Pearl, MS. He was a retired
service station owner. He married Lois Pauline Maroney in Childress, TX
on January 27, 1957. He was a member of the Bellevue Church of Christ in
Bellevue.
Graveside services for Mr. Pace were held on Tuesday, December 4, 2001
at 11:00 a.m. at the Vashti Cemetery with Minister Weldon Walling officiating.
Burial was under the direction of Fry Funeral Home.
Survivors include: his wife, Lois of Bellevue, TX; two daughters, Sue
Cunningham of Abilene, TX and Brenda Lumpkins of Ft. Worth, TX; one son,
William Maroney of Oklahoma City, OK; several nieces and nephews and several
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
James Lloyd Christmas, Sr.
James Lloyd Christmas, Sr., age 76 of Bowie, Texas, passed away on November
23, 2001 in Bowie, Texas.
Mr. Christmas was born on November 29, 1924 in Gatesville, Texas. He
was a retired carpenter and a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church
and the Reddy-McClellan VFW Post #8789 in Bowie, Texas. He married Ullaine
Wortham on November 29, 1997 in Bowie, Texas. He grew up in Strawn, Texas
and has been a resident of Bowie for the past five years.
Services for Mr. Christmas were held on Thursday, December 6, 2001
at 3:00 p.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Bowie with Dr. Larry
Cox officiating. Burial was in the Post Oak Cemetery under the direction
of Fry Funeral Home.
Survivors include: three daughters, Ginger Christmas Beattie of Hillsboro,
Oregon, Cleo Elizabeth Dewbre of Blanchard, Oklahoma and Laura Jean Million

Doyle Burnett
Doyle Burnett, age 92 of Nocona, Texas, passed away on December 5, 2001
in Harris Hospital in Ft. Worth.
Mr. Burnett was born on December 27, 1908 to J.E.A. and Maude Alvie
Gray Burnett. He married Maude Burnett on August 12, 1939 in Healdton,
OK. He was an oil field pumper and served in Pearl Harbor as a police officer.
Graveside services for Doyle Burnett were held on December 7, 2001
at 11:00 a.m. in the Nocona Cemetery with Rev. Keith Barbee officiating.
Burial was under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Survivors include: one son, Jerry Burnett of Ft. Worth, TX; one sister,
Dorothy Jean Williams of Wichita Falls, TX; and one brother, James Burnett
of Fort Worth, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife Maude Burnett on
May 2, 1981.
Gervis Willard Arnold
Gervis Willard Arnold, age 86 of Forestburg, TX, passed away on December
6, 2001 at Bowie Memorial Hospital in Bowie, TX.
Mr. Arnold was born on August 2, 1915 in Slagel, LA to Monroe and Nancy
Ann Haymon Arnold. He married Florence Elizabeth Hamilton on July 29, 1939
in Leesville, LA. After Florence passed away he retired and worked with
Glory Men Baptist Church, Southern Baptist Convention, a group that traveled
around rebuilding churches. He and Minnie met then and were married on
November 24, 1990.
Services for Mr. Arnold were held on Saturday, December 8, 2001 at
2:00 p.m. at the Forestburg Baptist Church with Rev. Kris Barnett officiating
and Sunday, December 9, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Blue Branch Church in Pitkin,
LA with Rev. Ned Barrett officiating. Burial was in the Blue Branch Cemetery
in Pitkin, LA under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Survivors include: his wife, Minnie of Forestburg, TX; two daughters,
Nelvin M. Baggett of Plainview, TX and Eloise Haymon of St. Augustine,
TX; one son, Gervis Willard Arnold, Jr. of Friendswood, TX; six grandchildren
and one great grandchild; two sisters, Gussie Lee Davis or Leesville, LA
and Retha Marie Jeane of Lufkin, TX; and one brother, D.A. Arnold of Dallas,
TX.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Elizabeth (Hamilton)
Arnold on October 28, 1976; one son, Edward Morrison; one brother, Arthur
Royce Arnold; and one sister, Lena Mae Miller.
Zora Ellen Gilbert
Zora Ellen Gilbert, 76, of Nocona, TX passed away on December 6, 2001
at her residence.
Mrs. Gilbert was born on June 27, 1925 in Nocona, TX to Marvin and
Willie Mae Mills Quinn. She married Wm. H. (Sonny) Gilbert on June 3, 1942
in Waurika, OK. She retired from Olney Savings after 16 years. Mrs. Gilbert
was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a former member of
Maids and Matrons Club of Nocona.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gilbert were held on Monday, December 10,
2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith
Barbee and Buddy Lee officiating. Interment was held at Nocona Cemetery
under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: her mother, Willie Mae Salmon, Nocona,
TX; two sons, Robert (Bob) Gilbert, Nocona, TX and Tommy (Tom) Gilbert,
Runaway Bay, TX; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Sonny Gilbert, in 1995.

Alta Lemons
Alta Lemons, 81, of Nocona, TX passed away on December 8, 2001 at her
residence.
Mrs. Lemons was born on February 1, 1920 in Clay County, TX to Oren
and Nora Stewart Shadden. She married Billy Gene Lemons. She worked for
Hardwick and Etter of Sherman, Nocona Boot Co., and Nocona Belt Co. She
was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nocona where she was a Sunday
School teacher for 45 years from Juniors to T.E.L., also Vacation Bible
School. She also volunteered with the Chamber of Commerce, Literacy Group,
Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, March of Dimes, was an active member of the
Nocona Hospital Auxiliary and a dedicated volunteer for the Red Cross.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lemons were held on December 11, 2001 at
2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Nocona with Dr. Bryan Parks officiating.
Interment was held in Ringgold Cemetery under the direction of Scott Morris
Funeral Home.
Survivors include: two sons, Gerald Miller and Larry Lemons, both of
Nocona, TX; one brother, Gene Shadden, Evergreen, CO; seven grandchildren;
eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lemons
was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 11, 1990, three brothers
and two sisters.
Pearl Eugenia Young
Pearl Eugenia Young, 90, of Nocona, TX passed away on December 8, 2001
at Nocona Nursing Home.
Mrs. Young was born on October 8, 1911 in Montague County, TX to Rufus
Thomas and Alma Mitchell McCool. She married Henry Stanley Young. She retired
from Justin Leathergoods after 27 years and retired from Patrick Sand and
Gravel after 13 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services for Mrs. Young were held on Tuesday, December 11,
2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ with Minister Dale Scott officiating.
Interment was held in Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Jerry Woods
Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Dura Young, Wichita Falls,
TX, and Lanita Zachry, Abilene, TX; two sons, Grady (Jiggs) Young, Why,
Arizona and Garry Young, Nocona, TX; one sister, Ann Allred, Nocona, TX;
nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Young was preceded
in death by her husband.

Sybil Faye Fraser
Sybil Faye Fraser, 79, of Bowie, TX passed away on December 2, 2001
in Bowie.
Mrs. Fraser was born on August 14, 1922 in Teague, TX. She has resided
in Bowie for 22 years. She married Donald MacLeod Fraser on September 8,
1951 in Dallas, TX. She was a homemaker and served as a missionaries wife
for 40 years in the Bearing Precious Seed Scripture Ministry, which her
husband founded.
Funeral services for Mrs. Fraser were held on Friday, December 7, 2001
at 2:00 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Pitman and Rev.
Bobby Ford officiating. Interment was held in Brushy Cemetery.

Miss "Snookie" Clark
Miss "Snookie" Clark, 70, of Bowie, TX passed away on December 7, 2001.
Miss Clark was born on January 30, 1931 in Minco, OK. She was a homemaker
and a member of the Post Oak Baptist Church in Post Oak, TX.
Graveside services for Miss Clark were held on Monday, December 10,
2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Silver Hill Cemetery in Silver Hill, TX with Rev.
Milton Capps officiating. Services were directed by Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: one sister, Mrs. Vera "Sally" Weddle,
Rhome, TX; one nephew, Don Weddle, Anchorage, Alaska; and several nieces
and nephews.
James Francis Fisher
James Francis Fisher, 64, of Arvada, Colorado, passed away on November
22, 2001.
Mr. Fisher was born on October 3, 1937 in Muenster, TX to Joseph W.
and Gertrude Schmitt Fisher. He married Ina Daws on January 29, 1951 in
Plainview, TX. He was a member of the Saint Joans Parish in Arvada and
a member of the Knights of Columbus for at least 40 years. He worked as
a Park and Recreation Director, retiring in 1995, after 35 years. He was
a 35 year member of the Kiwanis Club.
Funeral services for Mr. Fisher were held on Fri., December 8, 2001
at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Muenster, TX with Rev. John
Ohner, O.S.A. officiating. Interment followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery,
Muenster, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Ina Fisher, Arvada, CO; one
daughter, Susan Fisher Deines, St. Louis, MO; one son, Mark Edward Fisher,
Parker, CO; two sisters, Theresa Walterscheid and JoAnn Pagel, both of
Muenster, TX; one brother, Neil Fisher, Fredricksburg, TX; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Gertrude Fisher. |
