Joan Childress

QUINLAN - Joan Childress, 70, of West Tawakoni died Sunday at her residence. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lonnie Erwin officiating. Burial is in Lakeside Memorial Park.

The daughter of Harold and Irene Smith McGee, she was born Oct. 20, 1929 in Dallas. She owned a convenience store.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Charles L. and Laura Childress and two grandchildren.

A brother, Taylor McGee, preceded her in death.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jenny Conlan

CARROLLTON - Jenny Rose Conlan, 41, of Greenville died May 2. A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Friday at Metrocrest Funeral Home, 1810 North Perry, in Carrollton. Dr. MIchael Waco will officiate.

She is survived by her stepfather, Ray Wood; brothers Francis Gaino and Shane Conlan; and sisters Susan and Maureen Conlan.

Hubert Smith

WOLFE CITY - Hubert "Wayne" Smith, 75, of Plano died Monday in Walsenburg, Colo. Veterans Administration nursing home. Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home. Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born April 28, 1925, in Wolfe City. He married Vida Sue Walters on March 15, 1949, in Greenville.

He was a retired postal worker and a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II.

Surviving are sons, Steve Smith of Sante Fe, N.M. and Doug Smith of Lewisville; five grandchildren and one brother, "Son" Smith.

He was preceded in death by his wife on March 10, 1983.

Ruth Williams

CADDO MILLS - Ruth Electa Williams, 88, of Caddo Mills died Tuesday at her residence. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rentfrow Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Butch Bruton officiating. Burial is in the Caddo Mills I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was born August 24, 1911, in Hunt County. She was married to Clyde Williams on Dec. 19, 1934, in Dallas. She was a retired accountant secretary.

Surviving are her husband of Caddo Mills; sons, Kenneth and Wendell Williams of Caddo Mills; sister, Beda Page of Caddo Mills; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Dicky Quattlebaum, and two sisters, Thelma Davenport and Nelda Reedmer.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Louise Brown

Louise Lula Brown, 81, of Greenville died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Raymond Anderson Boulter Jr. officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Born in Twin Oak on Oct. 15, 1918, she was the daughter of Luther Lewis and Ruby Rape Lewis. She married Ray Brown on Nov. 18, 1942 in Dallas.

A Greenville resident for 70 years, Mrs. Brown worked as a machine operator for Haggar Slacks. She was a member of Central Christian Church

Surviving are daughters Martha Elliott of Greenville and Raleen Masek of Colorado and granddaughter Stephanie Burnette of Greenville.

She was preceded in death by her husband on March 14, 1990 and a brother, David Dee Lewis.

Pallbearers are Bill Irwin, Tommy East, Jerry East, Bobby Brooks, Danny Ott and Biff Brown.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sidney Hunt

QUINLAN - Funeral services for Sidney Leon Hunt, 78, of Quinlan are at 3 p.m. today at Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Tinsley officiating. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Mr. Hunt died Sunday in Terrell.

Born June 10, 1921 in Quinlan, he was the son of Sidney and Mantie Pearl Chamess Hunt. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Hunt was a policeman.

Surviving are sisters-in-law, Arah Hunt, Myrtle Hunt and Vaudrene Hunt; three brothers, Mascal Hunt of Rowlett, Lavon Hunt of Quinlan and Paul Hunt of Terrell and two sisters, Ava George of Amarillo and Lillian Vasquez of San Antonio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be before the service at the funeral home.

Patricia Caldwell

AUSTIN - Patricia Ann Andrews Caldwell, 46, of Austin died Friday at her residence. A memorial service is at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riverbend Church of Austin.

Mrs. Caldwell was born Dec. 10, 1953, in Greenville; the daughter of Castleman Mazyck Andrews Jr. and Bernice Henson Andrews. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in archeology.

She was married to Rick Caldwell on Feb. 16, 1985., in Taos, N.M.

Mrs. Caldwell was an outside sales agent for Dynamic Reprographics and sales agent for Keller Williams Real Estate.

She was active in the PTA and Girl Scouts; having served on the board of the Oak Hill Elementary School PTA and leader for Girl Scout Troop 637.

Surviving are her husband of Austin; two daughters, Merideth Caldwell and Cameron Caldwell, both of Austin; and three brothers, Robie Andrews of Allen, Cas Andrews III of Wimberly and Bill Andrews of Clear Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Austin.

Boyd Gilreath

ABILENE - Boyd "Max" Gilreath, 58, of Abilene died Saturday at an Abilene hospital. Graveside service is at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Elmwood Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Fitzgerald officiating.

Mr. Gilreath was born Oct. 21, 1941, in Littlefield. In 1975, he married Margaret Ann Dailey in Richlands, Va.

Mr. Gilreath was a driver-salesman for Conway Southern Express. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of 14-1/2 years. He received a Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam.

He was a member of Woodmen of the World, an Eagle Scout leader and Scout Master, a member of the Abliene Chamber of Commerce Redcoats Committee and a former Sunday School teacher at Epworth United Methodist Church.

Mr. Gilreath also served on the industrial board while residing in Greenville.

Surviving are his wife, Ann, of Abilene; his mother, Ila Ruth Gilreath of Sudan; three daughters, Kimberly Gilreath of Abilene, Angel Cummings of Greenville and Suzan Foster of Eastland; a sister, Linda Summer of Seminole; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Travis Gilreath, in 1996.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.

C.D. Miller

FARMERSVILLE - C.D. "Doc" Miller, 79, of Farmersville died Saturday in McKinney. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hurst's Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bart Barber officiating. Burial is in Blue Ridge Cemetery.

Mr. Miller was born July 5, 1920, in Blue Ridge; the daughter of John M. and Ettie Randles Miller. He married Edith Gaither on March 16, 1940, in Blue Ridge. He was the owner of a grocery business.

Surviving are his wife of Farmersville; daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ann and Morgan Baker of Farmersville and Peggy and Richard Cope of Rowlett; sister, Alene Nevils of McKinney; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

George Buford Lyons

GARLAND - George Buford Lyons, 83, of Garland, formerly of Ennis, died Friday at his home. Services are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Garland. Dr. David Hall will officiate. Graveside service will follow at Myrtle Cemetery, Ennis.

Mr. Lyons was born March 8, 1917. He was raised in Ennis and is a veteran of World War II. He lived in Garland for more than 40 years before moving to Commerce for 15 years. He returned to Garland due to illness. He was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Jim Belcher; son and daughter-in-law, George and Janelle Lyons; daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Phil Dial; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is set for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Home.

Emma Bendall

Emma Z. Bendall of Greenville died Wednesday at Greencrest Manor Nursing Home. There is a graveside service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas.

The daughter of Amos and Martha Lochart, she was born in September 1908 in Mississippi. She and Ruel H. Bendall were married in 1929.

A former resident of Dallas, Mrs. Bendall had lived in Greenville since 1981. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Fred H. and Barbara Bendall of Chandler; granddaughter Lisa and husband Carroll Thompson and their daughters Courtney Isham, Briana, Ashley and Lauren Thompson, grandson Mike Bendall and son Vaughn, all of Greenville; grandson Alan Bendall and wife Shivon and children Shasta, John and Daniel Bendall of Cumby; grandson Perry Bendall and daughter Amanda; granddaughter Shelly Poole and husband Wayne and children Skylar, Tristan and Payton; grandson James Bendall and wife Robin and children Dustin, Ricky and Krissy, all of Chandler; grandson Steven Bendall and wife Charlotte of Dallas and Linda Bendall of Greenville.

She was preceded in death by her husband; infant daughter Patricia; one brother and three sisters.

Grandsons are pallbearers and Bill H. Robinson Jr. is an honorary pallbearer.

Jodie Carney

Jodie Bell Carney, 32, of Quinlan died Wednesday at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Kuykendall officiating. Burial is Memoryland Memorial Park.

Mrs. Carney was born Jan. 19, 1968, in Sherman; the daughter of Jody and Sue Greer Wilcox. She was a secretary and a Baptist.

Surviving are her husband, Richard Carney of Kemp; mother and step-father, Sue and Hubert Clem of Quinlan; step-son, Jamey Carney of Mesquite; daughters, Tori Sue Bell and Michal Skye Caviness, both of Quinlan; step-daughter, Candi Carney of Kemp; and brothers, Jody Ray Wilcox and Ricky Joe Wilcox, both of Quinlan.

She was preceded in death by her father and maternal grandmother, Bea Crosskno.

Pallbearers are Chris Epperson, Tim McGee, Jerry Angel, Johnny Greer, Larry Holcomb, Steve Holcomb and Donnie Joe Clem.

Lucille Joslin

COMMERCE - Lucille Joslin, 89, of Mesquite, died in Lancaster Tuesday. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in the Tira Community with Rev. Don Shaw and Melvin Joslin officiating. Burial is in the Tira Cemetery.

She was born April 15, 1911 in Como to John Lewis and Callie C. Braden Lewis. She married Melvin Joslin in Hugo, Okla. on Jan. 25, 1930.

Mrs. Joslin retired from Slater Food Corporation at East Texas State University-Watson cafeteria.

Surviving are sons Melvin Joslin of Royse City, Jerry Joslin of Gainesville and Larry Joslin of Caddo Mills; daughters Jo Nell Pryor of Mesquite, Mary Oliphant of Lancaster and Kathy Renneker of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Odell Lewis of San Antonio; sister Bessie Maud Parker of Birthright; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 12, 1986 and four brothers.

Pallbearers are grandsons Howard Joslin, Tom Pryor, Donnie Fouse, Steven Oliphant, David Wafe, Greg Burnett, Neal Joslin and Josh Joslin.

Kenneth Pruett

FARMERSVILLE - Kenneth Edwin Pruett, 80, of Princeton died Tuesday at North Texas Medical Center in McKinney. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Princeton with Dr. Deron J. Biles officiating. Burial is in Blue Ridge Cemetery.

The son of Harvey M. and Ethel B. Lawrence Pruett, he was born Sept. 8, 1919 in Blue Ridge. He and Lilly Becky Beck were married June 14, 1945 in Texarkana, Texas.

Mr. Pruett attended Texas A&M University and graduated from Sam Houston State. He taught agricultural science and retired from the Princeton Independent School District.

Mr. Pruett was an Army veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church in Princeton.

Surviving are a daughter, Gretchen McComic of Plano; a son, Mark Pruett of Menomonie, Wis.; two sisters, Lynn Richardson of Edmond, Okla. and Bertie Lee Overman of Lone Oak; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Verda Tatum

COOPER - Verda Louise "Patsy" Tatum of Campbell died Thursday morning at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Klondike Baptist Church with Gene Witt of Hugo officiating. Burial is in New Klondike Cemetery.

Mrs. Tatum was born in Klondike on Feb. 4, 1924, daughter of Ernest C. Gant and Myrtle Chancellor Gant. She married Arthur Burt "Bud" Tatum Jr. in 1941.

Mrs. Tatum worked as a public accountant with Tatum's Bookkeeping in Dallas. She lived in Cooper for several years and moved to the Campbell area in 1983.

Surviving are three brothers, Sammy Gant of Fort Worth, Bobby Gant of Cleburne and L.C. Gant of Balch Springs; a sister, Juanita Pippen of Greenville and nieces and nephews.

Her husband preceded her in death in February 1970.

Rev. Alvin Turner Sr.

DALLAS - Rev. Alvin Turner Sr., 62, died April 30. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 401 Mills Street in Lewisville with pastor T.J. Denson officiating. Burial is in Flower Mound Cemetery.

Rev. Turner was a former pastor of New Jerusalem Baptist Church of Greenville. He was a member of Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ruthie Turner; four sons, Alvin Turner Jr., Kelvan Turner, Carlyle Turner and Stanford Turner, all of Lewisville; a daughter, Beverly Turner of Lewisville; brother Constance Tolbert of Fort Worth; a sister, LaVerne Jones of Frisco; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

There is a wake today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 619 Hembry, Dallas.

Leo Eddins

Leo Eddins, 87, of Greenville died Tuesday night at his residence. Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. today at Highland Terrace Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Layman officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

The son of George B. Eddins and Eva Fonville Eddins, he was born June 5, 1912 in Rains County. On June 14, 1934 he married Agnes Williams in Campbell.

Mr. Eddins was a retired farmer. He was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; three sons, Wayne Eddins of Greenville, Jerry Eddins of Corsicana and Don Eddins of Duluth, Ga.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and special friends Deloris Griffin and her children Thomas and Sharla Griffin.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Pallbearers are David Randolph, Wayne Eddins, Steve Eddins, Glen Eddins, Mike Eddins and Alan Eddins.

Wilma Martin

Wilma Mae Martin, 88, of Greenville died Tuesday at North Central Medical Center of McKinney. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Layman officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

She was born in Greenville on Nov. 3, 1911 to Albert David Ross and Willie Belle Stephens. She married E.J. Slemmons in Lone Oak in 1930; he preceded her in death. She married Dewey R. Martin in November 1947 in Greenville.

Mrs. Martin was a seamstress who worked for the clothing industry. She was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law E.J. and Katie Slemmons of Greenville; daughter and son-in-law Jean Ann and Charles Turner of McKinney; daughter-in-law Mildred Slemmons of Cumby; two sisters, Loretta Moore and Mavis Earle, both of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Ruby Nell Ross of Greenville; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both husband, son and daughter-in-law Robert R. and Barbara Slemmons and a brother, Sam Ross.

Grandsons are pallbearers.

Beulah Cartwright

Beulah Allen Cartwright, 97, of Greenville died Monday at Carriage House Manor Home of Sulphur Springs. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Nichols officiating. Burial is in Shady Grove Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 13, 1902 in DeQueen, Ark., daughter of John F. Allen and Sally Holder. She and Lockard B. Cartwright were married Sept. 27, 1924 in Wickes, Ark.

A former resident of Mena, Ark., Mrs. Cartwright was a former nurse's aide and she was a homemaker. She was a member of Vandervoort Methodist Church.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law Don and Carolyn Cartwright and Bob and Sandra Cartwright, all of Greenville; grandchildren Donna Hollon of Greenville, Sharon Steele of Phoenix, Ariz., Melanie Johnston of Bossier City, La. and Julie Mitchell of Greenville and great-grandchildren Lauren Hollon, Dane Hollon, Shane Hollon, Jacob Mitchell, Victoria Steele and Caroline Steele.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and four sisters.

Pallbearers are Bill Goodson, Bret Hollon, Ronnie Mitchell, Dr. J.K. Crain, Dr. Bob Deuell and Dr. Mike Adkisson. J.T. Allen, Mark Steele and Captain James Johnston are honorary pallbearers.

Lena Sebeck

GLADSTONE, Mich. - Lena Duncan Sebeck, 83, of Gladstone, Mich. died April 30.

The daughter of Robert Larry Duncan and Hester Cole Duncan, she was born April 15, 1917 in Greenville. She graduated from Greenville High School and attended Draughon's Business School in Dallas.

On Sept. 12. 1944 she married Freddie Sebeck in Greenville and they moved to Gladstone, Mich. She retired as a librarian for the Gladstone Independent School District.

Surviving a son, Larry Sebeck of Escanaba, Mich.; two daughters, Judy Sanders and Karen Randall, both of Escanaba, Mich.; a sister, Beulah Reynolds of Greenville; a brother, W.L. "Bill" Duncan of Greenville; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, four brothers and one sister.

Wesley Martin

Wesley H. "Buddy" Martin, 47, of Mansfield died Sunday at Medical Center Hospital in Arlington. Funeral services are at 11:30 a.m. today at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Greenville with Dr. David Stubblefield officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Born April 18, 1953 in Midland, he was the son of Wesley N. Martin and Minnie Ruth Russell Martin. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1971. He and Ruth Tam were married Jan. 27, 1979 in Cypress.

Mr. Martin was a service manager for Con-Equipment in Dallas, a job that took him around the world. He was a member of Mansfield Bible Church.

Surviving are his wife of Mansfield; stepmother LaVerne Martin of Greenville; sons Arik Martin of Mansfield and Wes Martin of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Enterprise; a stepbrother, Kent Fulks of Richardson; a sister, Sarah Jane Wright of Grapevine; stepsister Kathy Armstrong of Austin and nieces and nephews Jason and Jana Wright, Jordan Wright and Justin Karmele, all of Mansfield and Jamie and Patrick Burns of Dallas.

He was preceded by his mother in Sept. 28, 1963 and his father on Dec. 17, 1999.

Pallbearers are David Hatch, Jason Wright, Jimmy Wright, Kent Fulks, Bobby Stovall and Trey Warren.

Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. until time of service today at the church. Coker-Mathews is in charge of arrangements.

Debra Palmer

FARMERSVILLE - Debra B. Palmer, 46, of Farmersville died Saturday at her residence. There is a memorial service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hurst's Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bart Barber officiating.

Born in Dallas on March 4, 1954, she was the daughter of Charles E. Bell and Glenda Grace Martin Bell. She was a manufacturing vice president for Modern Machine Products in Farmersville.

She is survived by her father; stepfather Freddie Kilcrease of Famersville and a sister, Jackie Lynn Daniel of Garland.

Lawrence Risner

ARDMORE, Okla. - Lawrence George Risner, 87, of Greenville died Sunday. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Lone Grove with Dr. James Young officiating. Burial will be in Lone Grove Cemetery.

The son of Thomas and Gertrude Wilmuth Risner, he was born Nov. 4, 1912 in Oak Grove, Mo. On July 31, 1935 he married Freddie Cozett Pruitt in Ardmore, Okla.

Mr. Risner's family moved to the Lone Grove area in the early 1900s and he worked with his father and brother in the grocery business. He operated his own store in Lone Grove for 32 years. He moved to Greenville in 1996.

Surviving are three sons, Clinton Risner and Thomas Risner of Dallas and David Risner of Greenville; a daughter, Linda Greene of Norman, Okla.; brother Olen Risner of Medford, Ore.; four sisters, Ruth Young of Durant, Okla., Fannie Elmore of Lawton, Okla., Margaret Rasmussen of Turnwater, Wash. and Edna Miller of Central Point, Ore.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers are Chip Greene, Luther Jones, Melvin Grover, Kevin Dansereau, Jim Judd and Cole Risner.

Tyriek Smallwood

Tyriek D. Abernathy Smallwood, newborn, died Friday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. There is a graveside service at 11 a.m. today at Grundy Memorial Park with Rev. R.L. Price officiating.

Tyriek was born Friday to Latasha Davette Smallwood and Christopher Abernathy.

Surviving are parents and a brother, Tyrece D. Abernathy Smallwood.

Lena Wright

EMORY - Lena M. Wright, 90, of Emory died Monday at Green Acres Nursing Home in Emory. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Kernes and Rev. Lloyd Hopkins officiating. Burial is in Salem Cemetery in Alba.

Mrs. Wright was born Oct. 31, 1909 in Collin County, daughter of Ed Felty and Sally Souther. She was a homemaker and she was a member of Bright Star Baptist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Grace Brown of Alba.

Her husband, Ector Wright, preceded her in death in October 1977.

Pallbearers are Lynn Ramsey, Jack Bell, Roy Bingham, J.W. Galyean, Jerry G. Owen, Ben Wedeking, Hollis Whitworth and Hank Lopez.
