Auther Brown Davis, Sr.
Auther Brown Davis, Sr., of Mont Belvieu, passed away, Wednesday, December 12, 2001 after a lengthy illness with cancer.
Auther was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born on July 12, 1920 in Lufkin, Texas to Hiram Brown Davis and Ida Scott Davis.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jimmie Lewis Davis and a grandson, Chad Ryan Davis.
The Davis family moved to Barbers Hill in the early 1920’s. Auther Davis attended Barbers Hill Schools and began working in the oilfield. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1940, training at Fort Crockett and then at Camp Wallace where he was a mess sergeant for the doctors and nurses. Auther married Jimmie Price on July 2, 1942. Because of his oilfield background, he was then called to join CO 2812 Engineering Petroleum Distribution Company which was a new company formed to supply oil and gasoline to the Pacific area during World War II. He served on the islands of Layte and Okinanwa. Coming home to Barbers Hill after the war, he settled down to raise his family. Auther Davis later became very active in his community. He served as a Mont Belvieu City Councilman for 18 years. He also was active many years on the board of Mont Belvieu Assembly of God Church. He retired from ARCO Oil and Gas after 45 years of service. After retirement, he and Jimmie moved to the Old River/Cove area. He was then active in the Old River Assembly of God where he served on the board of trustees.
Auther Davis was an avid sportsman. He loved training bird dogs, fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed his 31 years in the Arizona Creek Wildlife Hunting Club and the camaraderie of his hunting buddies.
He will be loved and missed by his wife of 59 years, Jimmie Price Davis, son, Auther Brown Davis, Jr., J.D. and wife Delainia of Knoxville, Tenn. and San Antonio; daughters, Sue Davis Satterwhite and husband Kent of Baytown; and Sheila Davis Talton and husband Robert of Pasadena.
He is also survived by grandchildren, Dr. Melissa Talton Hunt and husband Eric, Melinda Talton Burleson and husband Benjamin and Christina Talton all of Pasadena; John A. Davis and wife Angela of Dallas; Clay Campbell and wife Tammy of Wisconsin; Cassy Campbell Delgado and husband Alan of San Antonio; Callie Campbell of Knoxville, Tenn.; Kari Satterwhite Robinson, J.D. and husband, Michael of Baytown; Barbara Frey and husband Frank of Houston; Susan Satterwhite of Houston; William (Bill) Satterwhite of Renton, Wash. and Richard Kelly Satterwhite of Baton Rouge, La.
Auther Davis is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, sisters, Mildred Davis Black of Rosenberg; Marie Davis Fisher of Baytown, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Kelly Satterwhite, Bill Satterwhite, John Davis, Eric Hunt and Ben Burleson and beloved nephew, Kenneth Fisher.
The family will receive friends from 2 - 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2001 at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook, Baytown, TX (281-422-8111). The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 17, 2001 at 10 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. James W. Mills and Rev. Gene Summers officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens on Garth Rd.

Lillian Estelle Schaeffer
Lillian Estelle Schaeffer, 87, passed away, Thursday, December 13, 2001 at James L. West Center in Fort Worth, Tx.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Baytown for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Elmer J. Schaeffer.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Ron Miller of Burleson; Nancy and Richard Burroughs of Coldspring; sister, Florence Baker of Gueydan, La. and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. - noon, today, December 15, 2001 at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Rd., Baytown.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today, December 15, 2001 at Earthman Memory Gardens, 8624 Garth Rd., Baytown with Rev. William Hodge officiating.

Ana L. “Lucci” Rojas-Vivot
Ana L. “Lucci” Rojas-Vivot, passed away, Friday, December 7, 2001 in Houston.
Ana was born March 5, 1972 in Santiago, Chile. After graduating from Hastings High School in Alief, she was trained as a medical assistant and was employed at the Fondren Orthopedic Group in the Texas Medical Center.
She is survived by her husband, Alexander Vivot and their two children, Michelle and Jason, parents, Enrique and Ana Rojas of Houston; grandparents, Jorge and Hilda Campos of Santiago; uncle, Jorge Campos of Houston.
She will be remembered as a vivacious, outgoing person who could light up a room. She was a fan of the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Lakers and enjoyed being outdoors. Ana will live on in the lives of others as an organ donor and would encourage others to also give the gift of life.
A memorial service will be held, today, December 15, 2001 at 8 p.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church, 12111 W. Bellfort, in Stafford with Scott McCasland, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request remembrances be made to an educational trust fund for her children, Michelle and Jason Vivot, at Prosperity Bank at the Texas Medical Center.

Alex Bacewic
Alex Bacewic passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 in Baytown. He was born Nov. 24, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois to Peter and Antoinette Tirholaite Bacewic.
A self-taught man, Mr. Bacewic was an active member in the Moose Lodge in La Porte, Indiana for many years and was retired from American Rubber & Plastics before relocating to Baytown 21 years ago.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward and Joseph Bacewic; sisters, Estelle Thompson, Valerie Vacek and Helen Blenke; and granddaughter, Kayle Denney.
Surviving family members include his daughters, Mary Denney and husband, Jim and Beverly Cornwell of Baytown; brothers, William Bacewic and wife, Elsie of Walkerton, Indiana and Charles Bacewic and wife, Eleanor of Knox, Indiana and Raymond Banary and wife, Shirley of Chesterfield, Indiana; sister Beatrice Lis of Antioch, Illinois; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. at L.A. Crespo Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of L.A. Crespo Funeral Directors with Rev. Gordon Barnett of Memorial Assembly of God officiating.

Leverne Sadik Melinger
Leverne Melinger, loving mother, dear friend, a gentle spirit with insurmountable inner strength and beauty, died peacefully at her home in Denver, Colorado on Dec. 4, 2001 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on December 22, 1947, in Harris County, to Henry and Carolyn Sadik, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Dr. Alan Melinger and her father-in-law, Alfred Melinger.
She is survived by her daughter Wendy Melinger, son Dustin Melinger and grand daughter Saraya McArthur, all of Denver; her devoted fiancee, Danny McCulloch of Houston; brothers, Charles Sadik of Stephenville, Montana and Wayne Sadik of Humble, Texas; sister, Helen MacDonald of Salt lake City, Utah; and mother-in-law, Helen Melinger of Austin.
Leverne, who grew up in Lynchburg, was a graduate of Deer Park High School and Metropolitan State University in Denver, where she received her degree in psychology.
Her entire career was dedicated to assisting people with special needs in improving the quality of their lives. She was a positive influence and will be remembered for her kindness and her ability to empower others.
Services were held in Denver on December 12.

Clyde Elton Sloan, Sr.
Clyde Elton Sloan Sr., a resident of Baytown since 1942, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001. Mr. Sloan was born Oct. 9, 1916 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Quartz Sloan.
Mr. Sloan is survived by two sons, Clyde Elton Sloan Jr. and wife, Lee Etta Ferguson Sloan and William Quartz Sloan and wife, Ethel Starr Sloan; four grandchildren, Roy Elton Sloan and wife, Sandra McClain Sloan; Rebecca Sloan Hoelewyn and husband, Ronnie; Warren Edward Sloan; and Martha Lee Sloan Salas and husband, Ruben; four great-grandchildren, Clifford Elton Sloan, Thomas Edward Sloan, William Cody Hoelewyn and Brandon Lane Hoelewyn.
Also survived by David Arthur Sloan and wife, Cherie L. Sloan; Charlotte Smith Sloan and husband, John Hall; and Arthur (Bill) Hays and wife, Patsy.

Helen Burgess
Helen Burgess, 85, a resident of Baytown for 64 years passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2001 in a local hospital where she gently passed away. She was born Jan. 28, 1916 in Asheville, North Carolina.
She was a kind and gentle spirit and a beacon to life. Her life was filled with working and retiring. She was a cashier at Kroger.
Mrs. Burgess was devoted to her time in volunteer work with numerous hours of service at Gulf Coast Hospital Auxiliary and Baycoast Hospital Auxiliary. She was a Baptist and enjoyed her family and friends.
She was survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Olive Burgess of Baytown; son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Berta Burgess of Baytown; a brother, Broadus Trantham of Asheville, North Carolina; a sister, Dorothy Souther of Asheville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Jaret Burgess, Jason Burgess, George Burgess, Tammy Furey, Tara Downton, Winky Klasing, Carrie West and Marcshea Coplin; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Sunday, Dec. 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Navarre Chapel.
The funeral is Monday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. at Navarre Chapel, with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Rev. Billy Joe Tate will be officiating.

Perfecto R. Bernal, 68, of Baytown, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001.
He was born April 18, 1933 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Ciriaco and Aniceta Bernal. Hew as a life-time member of Church of Christ - South Main (Iglesia de Cristo).
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Ciriaco and Aniceta Bernal and is survived by his wife Josefina Bernal; son, Adan Bernal and wife; two brothers, Lorenzo and Bonefacio Bernal; two sisters, Maria Dolores Bernal and Ana Bernal Hernandez; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
His body will lay in state Sunday, from 6 p.m. till the time of the funeral service, 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001 at Church of Christ - South Main (Iglesia de Cristo), 1101 South Main Street, Baytown, with Pastor Heriberto Martinez officiating. Interment will be at La Porte Cemetery.

J.T. Parker
J.T. Parker, 84, of Georgetown, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2001.
He was born Oct. 24, 1917, in Alvin, Texas to John T. and Addie Breeding Parker. Formerly of Houston, J.T. had been a resident of Georgetown for 28 years. He was a member of the Optimist Club, V.F.W. and also served in the United States Army during World War II.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Harold Sidney Parker of Georgetown.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Annie Evelyn Spencer Parker; two daughters, Pamela Jernigan and husband Jay of Georgetown and Kay May and husband Larry of Georgetown; son John T. Parker III and wife Lydia of Galveston; brother Ralph Parker and wife Peggee of Austin; sister Vivian Dunman of Austin; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family received guests for visitation from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001 at Cook-Walden/Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown. On Monday, Dec. 17, 2001 a visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown. Services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Navarre Funeral Home with interment services to follow at Cedar Crest Cemetery in Baytown.

Evangeline “Bobbie” Elliott
Evangeline “Bobbie” Elliott, 82, passed away Saturday Dec. 15, 2001 in Baytown, Texas.
She was born Nov. 22, 1919 in Bogota, Texas. She was married to Hubert Elliott for 60 years. She was a member of Vine Life Fellowship.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Elliott and a daughter, Elizabeth Deiss.
She is survived by granddaughters, Dena Kelly and husband Tim of Crosby, Donna Mayer and husband Kevin of Dayton, and Gena O’Neal and Husband Ray of Huffman; a grandson, Audie Powell of Crosby; a sister, Leona Weddle of Mt. Vernon, Texas; great-grandchildren, Lacey Courtney, Cory, Justin and Ashley; and special friends Lara and Henry Gibson of Atascosa, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 17 and 18, 2001. Services will be at noon Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001 at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, with the Rev. Bob Nix officiating.

Mrs. Wittie was born March 2, 1928 in Gatesville.

PARSY CLARICE EDDLEMON
Patsy Clarice Eddlemon, 63, of Tarkington Prairie, passed away, Monday, July 29, 2002 at the Kingwood Medical Center in Kingwood.
A native of Macedonia, she had lived in the Liberty County area her entire life. She is a member of the Joy Fellowship Church in Tarkington Prairie and was a retired custodian for the Tarkington Independent School District.
She is survived by her husband, Thurman Eddlemon of Tarkington Prairie; brother, Joe Smith and his wife Faye of Dayton; sisters, Pearl Vandver of Jacinto City; Gladys Franklin of Macedonia; Amy Crippens and her husband Lloyd of Jacinto City; Charlene Gregory of Dayton; Norma Hicks and her husband Gene of Crosby; 17 nieces and nephews, 27 great-nieces and great-nephews and seven great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and special friend, Sue Baker of Macedonia.
The family received friends on Wednesday and Thursday from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Norman Dwayne Ponder, 44, of Baytown, passed away, Tuesday, July 30, 2002 in a local hospital.
Norman was born September 5, 1957, in Baytown and lived here all his life. He was a teacher at Horace Mann Jr. School where he was Sponsor of Crime Stoppers. He was a member of Baker Road Baptist Church. He was a member and past Master of the Baytown Masonic Lodge #1357 AF&AM. He was a graduate of Sterling High School and received his BS Degree from Lamar University and was active in local youth sports. He was a fully certified Law Enforcement Officer thru T.C.L.E.O.S.E.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Rena Ponder.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie Ponder of Baytown; son, Danon Nicholas Ponder of Baytown; daughter, Danielle Nicole Ponder of Baytown; parents, William Norman and Helon ponder of Baytown; brother and sister-in-law, Rance and Rhonda Ponder of Baytown; sister and brother-in-law, D’Laine and Duane Smith of Baytown; grandparents, Elgin and Elon Reichenau of Baytown; aunts and uncle, Geana and Wilburn Pfeiffer and Francis Ponder, nieces and nephews, Michelle and Matthew Ponder, Skye Smith and Brittany and Alex Weinstein, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bill and Jan Phillips of Weatherford; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mickey and Stephanie Phillips of Houston; his faithful friend, “Odin” and numerous relatives and friends.
