AVIS THOMPSON TODD of Bandera, former resident of Houston, died October 19, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ralph H. Todd, daughter Nan Liuzza and husband Jim, Son David B. Todd, four grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous other relatives.

FRANKLIN C. "Cotton" JONES, 67, passed away October 31, 2001 in Houston, Texas. He was born March 30, 1934 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Stonewall Jackson and Mildred Autry Jones. Cotton was a retired independent oilman. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U. S. Army. After serving in Korea, Cotton graduated from Oklahoma University in 1956 with a degree in Geology. He was a dedicated Alumni and booster. During his Golden Gloves years he had a win-lose record of 38-8. Cotton is survived by his loving family; wife of 47 years Berdenia Jones; daughters Deana Skalba and husband Ron, Jennifer Jones; sons Jeffery Jones and wife Polly and their daughter Marisa, Gregory Jones and wife Judy; and sister Georgene Penaska. Visitation will be 3:00PM to 6:00 PM Sunday. Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Monday in the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

EDWARD A. HARRIS, SR., born January 9, 1930 in St. Albans, England, passed away at home October 31, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; his four children, William, Kathleen, Edward and Maureen; Virginia's son Mike; and their families. Ed served two years in the Korean War and was a life member of the VFW Stafford Post 4010. He was a model railroad and computer enthusiast and he loved his two stepping. Services to be held at the Veterans Houston National Cemetery Chapel on Veterans Memorial Drive Monday, November 5, 2001 at 9:30 A.M. Family has requested donations to The Hospice of the Texas Medical Center in lieu of flowers.

WILLIAM CLARK PROPS, 79, was born December 12, 1921 in Lafayette, Indiana, passed away November 1, 2001 in Houston. He was a veteran of W.W.II. He held a B.A. degree in Government from North Texas University and a Master of Education from the University of Houston. He beganhis public education career in the Sealy ISD in 1948 and retired from Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in 1982. Bill was an avid gardner and enjoyed sharing his harvest with others. For a number of years after retirement he was in the antique business where he made many friends and acquintences. Preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Massey Props, sister-in-law, Gwen Findley; niece, Kaylan Findley; nephews, Clark Findley and Don Kester and other relatives and close friends. The family will be present to receive friends for visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2001 at J.B. Earthman Tanglewood Funeral Directors, 5740 San Felipe @ Bering. Interment will be at Long Creek Cemetery in Granbury, Texas.

FRANCES TILLERY, 78, fell asleep in death on November 2nd after complications related to a long existing medical condition. Originally from Waycross, Georgia, she was a Houston resident since 1951. A faithful servant of Jehovah God, she upheld her Christian beliefs until her last breath. She is survived by two sons: Ralph Tillery and James Higgs, one daughter: Mary Hill, four grandsons: Tray Tillery, Jonathon Thompson, Barrett Tillery and Chad Tillery; three great grandchildren: Destiny Tillery, Logan Tillery and Barrett Tillery, Jr.; five sisters: Myrtice Chappelear, Frankie Sweat, Gladys Poole, Leona Grabe and Clara Thomas. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday, November 4, 2001 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 9215 Easthaven in Houston.

MRS. IDA MAE "Pat" Price, 71, of Belton, died in a Temple nursing center Thursday, November 1, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 5, 2001 at the Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton with Rev. Andy Davis officiating. Burial will be in Temple Garden of Memories. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Price, Ronnie Price, Kenny Price, Wayne Price, Brandon, Patterson and Charles Fritsch. Mrs. Price was born in Travis, Texas in Falls County on June 2, 1930 to George Kenworthy and Cordell Bridgewater Kenworthy. She graduated from Rosebud High School in 1947 and married Carlos Price on September 25, 1948. After moving to Belton from Florence in 1957 she became as active member of First Baptist Church, where she worked in the church library. She was also a librarian at Carnegie Library for many years. She is survived by daughters, Janice Meador and husband, Ben of Pasadena, Carla Price of Hewitt and Roxanne Gries and husband, Rich of Belton; grandchildren, Morgan and Ryan Meador and Brandon Patterson; one brother, Bill Kenworthy and wife, Florene of Independence, Missouri; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Orleane Kenworthy of Little River, Tx., O.A. and Eleanor Price of Topeka, Ks., Morris and Jeanette Price of Florence, Tx., Glen and Janie Price of Bertram, Tx., V.F. and Hazel Fritsch of San Antonio; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Price, parents, George and Cordell Kenworthy, and brother, Harold Kenworthy. JEFFREY THOMAS CHINN LIU, of Missouri City, Texas born November 3, 1971 in Honolulu, Hawaii, son of Patricia Blandford Liu of Missouri City, Texas and Thomas Tzu-Hung Liu of Guam, lost his battle with cancer on November 1, 2001. He is survived by brothers Scott Anthony Shaw Liu of Houston, Texas and Lee Weldon Payne of Nacogdoches, Texas; grand dad Chek-En Liu of Vancouver, BC Canada; aunt Barbara Blandford of Missouri City, Texas; uncles Paul Richard Blandford of Kingwood, Texas; Ronald Anthony Blandford of Houston, Texas and Tim Tzu-Sung Liu of Oxford, Ohio, along with numerous aunts and uncles and cousins. An honors graduate of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Houston in 1989, he was a member of the Crusaders Chapter of the National Honor Societyof Secondary Schools and was presented the Presidential Academic Fitness Award. As a Summa Cum Laude graduate from Georgetown University in Washington, DC in 1993, he was awarded the Dean's Citation and selected for membership in the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. A High Honors graduate from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1998, he made the Texas Chapter of the order of the Coif. As a result of his own personal strength, courage and discipline, Jeffery was admitted to the State Bar of Texas on November 1, 2000. JOSEPH MICHAEL CHETTA, 46, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2001. A lifetime Houstonian, Joseph was a building designer. He was a owner of J.M. Chetta and Company. Joseph leaves behind his loving parents Rosalie Troncale Chetta, and Leslie Chetta; sisters, Jo Ann Chetta, Pauline Samperi and husband Frank, their children Frank Jr., Kali and Britney, Sharon Brittain and husband Greg, and their children Nicholas, and Nathan; and many other relatives and friends. RUTH WALKER STEPHENS, 75, was born May 13, 1926 in Velasco, Texas and passed away November 1, 2001 in Houston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband James Wallace Stephens. LEE SHERRETTS (KOOISTRA) KELLY, 53, beloved wife of Peter Byrne Kelly and proud mother of twin sons David Shane and James Raygan Kelly, died Nov. 2 of ovarian cancer. A tireless volunteer for the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, the Rice School and Windsor Village Vanguard School, she coached Odyssey of the Mind teams to regional and state victory and helped start Boy Scout Troop 1190; she also volunteered with children's educational programs for St. Luke's United Methodist. Prior to starting her family, she was executive director of the Texas Paralegal School and managed Great Books offices in Houston and other cities. She is also survived by a sister, Lucille Beggs of Kent, OH, a brother George Sherretts of Oil City, PA, and their spouses Jerry and Nancy. She joins in death her brother and sister, Charles Sherretts and Esther Stewart. Also surviving are her mother-in-law, Cecilia Rice Kelly, and brothers-in-law Thomas P. Kelly Jr., William B. Kelly, Hugh Rice Kelly, and James Tynan Kelly; sisters-in-law Katherine Montgomery and Mary Kelly Pauwels; and 28 cherished nieces and nephews. The family thanks those who significantly extended her life, especially Drs. Ali Massumi, Barry Siller and John Kavanagh and the staffs of St. Luke's and M.D. Anderson. Deep gratitude is extended to her spiritual community, the friends who helped her leave this world with courage and grace. WILLIAM H. HUBBELL, JR., 82, Chief Warrant Officer W-4 USN Retired 1936-1957 World War II and Korea. Harris County Sheriffs Deputy 1958-1970, Harris County District Attorney Office 1970-81 retired Chief Investigator, died, December 10, 2001. He was preceded in the death of his loving wife and best friend of 54 years. Survived by his daughters, Karen Massey and Deborah Pfunder; grandchildren, Kyle Pfunder, Christopher Massey, and Carrie Massey; great-grandson, Taylor Massey; his sister, Dorothy Ward as well as other relatives and a host of friends. Graduated from Reagan High School and attended South Texas Junior College. He was a member of the Reagan Lodge 1047 AF & AM and the Hubbell Family Historical Society. VIOLA HAIRELL, 85, died Monday, December 10, 2001, Gunter, TX. She was a resident of Houston from 1924 until 1979. She resided at Canyon Lake, TX. from 1979 until moving to Tom Bean, TX. in 1994. She is survived by her daughter, Rhoda and her husband Bob Harris of Tom Bean. Ms. Hairell retired from the Houston Cotton Mill in 1979. Kathleen Virginia Blankenship, 86, of Houston passed away December 9, 2001. She born on August 9, 1915 in Palestine, Texas to John & Beatrice Stehr. Kathleen grew up in Houston, where she graduated from the old Sam Houston High School and then received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the Texas State College for Women. She taught school for many years, initially in Brownsville, and then in Houston at Southmayd, and Lewis Elementary, until her retirement in 1979. While living in Brownsville in 1941, Kathleen met her husband, Robert who was a member of the 124th Cavalry stationed at old Fort Brown. They were married July 4, 1942. She was a member of the Glenbrook United Methodist Church, a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for Women Educators, and was active in the Downtown Houston Opti-Mrs Club, where she served as President for two years. Kathleen & Robert were also very active in the 124th Cavalry Association and the Houston Basha-CBIVA. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Eugenia B. Zibby of Centralia, Illinois, and Karen A. Blair & her husband, Royce of San Antonio, Texas. She was the proud and loving “Gracie” to four grandchildren, Kathleen S. (Zibby) Draege & her husband, Kevin of Centralia, Illinois, Alison K. Blair of Aspen, Colorado, Michael R. Zibby of Oxford, Mississippi, and Ashley E. Blair of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by a godchild, Carole Bloomquist, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, countless former students, and many dear friends. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Jean Stehr, and Eugenia Stehr, and her son-in-law, Dr. Michael P. Zibby. ALEXANDER MOSES FRIDMAN passed away on December 7, 2001. He was born on April 12, 1920 in St. Petersburg, Russia. There, Alexander attended the Military Medical Academy and as a colonel during WWII received 14 decorations for bravery. Alexander came to Houston in 1975 where he worked for Baylor College of Medicine and as a medical examiner. During his career he became senior editor of many medical books and publications. He was a lifetime honorary member of the American Medical Association and an associate member of the American Academy of Science. Alexander's biography has been included in Who's Who International and his name inscribed on the Wall of Liberty in Normandy, France. He was well known throughout the Russian and Jewish communities in Houston because of his help and advice. Alexander enjoyed reading, writing, traveling, The Arts, and athletic activities. He was preceded in death by his parents Moses and Hannah Fridman, his brother Boris, and his son Boris. His children Svetlana, Michael, and Anna; grandchildren Julia, Alexei, and Aaron; and great-granddaughter Katherine survive him. His family and friends will forever remember Alexander. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 13 from 10 am-12 noon at Miller Funeral Home located at 7723 Beechnut, Houston, Texas 77074.

REXINA HEMPLER WEST, 81, passed away December 10, in Woodville, Texas. Born and raised in eastern rural Oklahoma, she graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1941. She earned a Bachelor of Science in library science. She worked in various public, university and Carter Oil Company libraries before becoming a mother. When her husband retired, they moved to Lago Vista, Texas, where she was an active volunteer in the local community. She was the wife of Robert Colin West for 47 years. She was mother to and is survived by: son Robert Colin West, Jr. and wife Maryuri of Houston, daughter Gina West Carpenter and husband Brian of Warren Texas; grandsons: Robert Colin West III, Dane Colin Tipton, William Jared Tipton, and Carrie Davidson, step granddaughter. She had one sister, Regina Holloway, deceased, of Tulsa, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held in Poteau, OK for burial in the Hempler family plot. DANIEL JOHN MATA, 25, passed away , Sunday, December 9. He is survived by his children: Daniel John, II, Christian Joe and Kristin Mary Mata, parents: Edward and Mary Lou Mata, sisters: Sara Wilson and husband Juan, Sophia Holton and husband Ben Allen, brother: Edward Mata, Jr., nieces: Cecily, Samantha and Marissa, nephew: Jonathan, grandfather: Selestino Torres and numerous other family members and friends. LUCIAN T. HOOD, JR. , 85, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2001. He was a longtime and active member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church and was a well-known and respected architect in the Houston area for many years. Mr Hood is survived by his loving wife Betty J. Hood; son L.T. Hood, III of Los Angeles, CA and numerous other family members and friends. ANNIE RAY HOYAK BAKLIK, 97 passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2001 in Houston, TX. She was born on January 14, 1904 in Caldwell, Texas. She was predeceased by husband, Robert Baklik, one grandson, Daniel Lewis Baklik, sons-in-law Charles Henning and Frank Thomas, and eight brothers and sisters. Annie is survived by her children; Floriene Henning of Gulf Breeze, Florida, Margie Thomas of Houston, and Robert Baklik (Barbara) of Beaumont; Grandchildren, Leeland and Byron Henning of Georgia; Charles Henning of Florida, John Gay of Houston, James Gay of Bastrop; Donna McDonald of Jasper; Jay Baklik, Debbie Nicholson of Beaumont, and Lori Teague of Houston. 18 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Annie and Robert, were charter members of St. Theresa Catholic Church. Annie was a member of the St. Theresa Women's Club, former member of the Alter Society, and a member of the KJZT Lodge of Texas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. The family would like to thank her devoted caregiver, Lula Effah, and the caretakers at Lexington place Nursing Home, where she spent the last 6 months of her life. PATSY EATON ALSTON, 65, of Pasadena, passed away Monday, December 10, 2001. Patsy was born March 25, 1936 in Honeygrove, Texas to Frank and Willie Mae Eaton. Patsy has recently moved to the Cy-Fair area but had been a longtime resident of the Pasadena and the Corpus Christi areas. Patsy was a member of the Eastern Star, the Corpus Christi Chapter and was a devoted member and supporter of the PTA in the Corpus Christi area. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles Alston, Sr. and her brother, Frank Eaton. Patsy is survived by her daughters, Dena Miller and her husband Dick, Melinda Fogleman and her husband Charles, Cindy Thornton and her husband Fred; her son, Charles Alston, Jr.; and her sister Joann Despain and her husband Thomas. Patsy is also survived by her grandchildren, Chris Miller, Jonathan Fogleman, Michael Fogleman, Katie Turner, Matthew Turner, Valerie Alston, Jacob Alston, Chelsea Thornton and Garrett Thornton. REVEREND MARK W. HORACEK died December 6, 2001. Reverend Horacek was born September 11, 1914 in Yankton, South Dakota to Vaclav and Anastasia Hejl Horacek. He attended Tabor High School in Tabor, South Dakota and was a member of St. Wenceslaus Church. After graduation he attended St. Procopius Academy and College in Lisle, Illinois where he starred in football and baseball and later studied at the University of Illinois. He taught at Assumption High School in Dwight, Nebraska. On completing his studies he was ordained by the Benedictine Order in 1943. Among the many Churches he served were St. Joseph Church in Rockdale, Illinois and St. John Church in Deville, Louisiana from 1950 to 1966. During his retirement years he was very active at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Houston. His love of sports continued into his retirement years. In 1988 his Houston 70's Team were the undefeated champions and in 1994 his Houston 75+ Softball Team was rated third in the world. Reverend Mark Horacek is survived by his brother Daniel O. Horacek, of Phoenix, Arizona and his sister, Harriet H. Kulleck of Downey, California and two nephews, Reverend Thomas Kulleck of Brownsville, Texas and James Kulleck of Downey, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Natalie Horacek, O.S.B., and brothers William, John and Joseph Horacek. The Wake Service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 12 at Forest Park Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer. Visitation hours are scheduled from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial for Reverend Horacek will be held on Thursday, December 13 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church, 7720 Boone Road, Houston, Texas, Reverend Thomas Kulleck, his nephew, officiating as principal celebrant and the homilist will be Rev. Hubert J. Kealy, Pastor of St. Pius V in Pasadena. Burial service to follow at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale. Donations may be given to the Bishop's Burse in the Diocese of Alexandria for the education of seminarians or to the Diocese of Galveston-Houston for seminarian education.

JOHN W. JOLLY, died December 5, 2001 at home. Born in Birmingham, Ala. March 12, 1927 to Nathan & Mabel Jolly. Preceded in death by his parents: wife, and a sister. 5 brothers, 2 sisters & numerous nieces and nephews survive him. Burial was on December 10, 2001 at Forest Lawn Cemetery. ARTHUR HAROLD BABB, 66, passed away December 9, 2001. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years: Faye W. Babb, daughter: Diana Jones, sons: David Babb, Derrick Babb and wife Dorothy, sisters: Carol L. Vrazel and Virginia Stuart, brothers: Glen Babb, James Babb and Donnie Babb, grand children: Jason Shoemaker, Adam Cawthon, Christina Rhea and Cecil Rhea. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday December 12, 2001 in the chapel of Klein Funeral Home. BETTY W. EMRICK, 86, passed away December 5, 2001. Visitation, Sunday, December 9, 2001 at Heights Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. with the family present from 4-5:30 p.m. Memorial Service, 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 10, 2001 at Oaks Presbyterian Church, 1576 Chantilly.

COL. ARMAND CLIFTON ELLZEY, 81, born June 12, 1920 in Burkeburnette, Texas, died Saturday, December 8, 2001 in Houston, Texas. He served in the Army Air Corp, United States Air Force, during World War II and the Korean War. He spent his early years in Livingston, Texas. He graduated from Oklahoma University and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. For 8 years of his military career, Col. Ellzey was a military aid to President Dwight D. Eisenhower, serving as his Chief of Protocol. He continued his service at the White House during the transition from President Eisenhower to President John F. Kennedy. Later he became the Executive office of the 497th Fighter Inceptor Squadron in Madrid, Spain. In 1967 he retired from the military and moved to Houston. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Dorothy Lee Ellzey, his father Lee Ellzey and his mother Ruth Ellzey. He is survived by his cousins, Dr. Roy S. Ellzey of Corpus Christi, Texas, Jane E. Hughes of Marietta, Ga. Judy E. Stahlman of Natchez, Mississippi, Irene G. Swope of Rescue, California and many dear and close friends. Friends are invited to visitation with the family at 9 o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 in the Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive, followed by a funeral service at 10 o'clock. Entombment will follow in the Abbey Mausoleum of Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. Rev. Kevin R. Otto, of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, will be officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Roy S. Ellzey, Mr. Charles Richard Bergstrom, Mr. Charles Richard Bergstrom, IV, Mr. Ben Ogletree, Dr. Gary Leach and Dr. Edwin J. Marrow.
