SWANNIE D. KILGORE
Swannie D. Kilgore, 92, of Baytown went to be with the Lord, Friday, November 29, 2002. He was born February 7, 1910 in Bridgeport, AL to Swannie and Ida Kilgore Sr.
Swannie was a professional chef who worked for several restaurants in the Baytown and Houston areas including: Humble Dinning Room in Baytown, Sky Terrace Restaurant in Houston along with several other Hotel Dinning Rooms in the Houston area.
Swannie is preceded in death by his wife; Ethel Kilgore, brothers; Charles Kilgore, P.T. Kilgore, D.J. Kilgore and sister Eloise Hand.
Swannie is survived by daughters; Sharon Sparks and husband James of Baytown, Charlotte Reynolds of Stafford, step-daughter; Audra Henscey of Kenefick, son; Thomas Kilgore and wife Shirley of Crowley, LA, sister; Inez Dean of Baxley, GA, Brother; Reginald Kilgore of Eastman, GA, half brother, Stanley Kilgore and wife Anita of Eastman, GA, half-sister; Barbara Holder of Warner, GA, twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be today, December 1, 2002 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Sterling White Chapel in Highlands.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2002 at Sterling White Cemetery in Highlands, with Rev. Ed officiating.

RONALD DAVID MORRIS
Ronald David Morris, 68, of Mayhill, NM, died Friday, November 22, 2002, in Alamogordo, NM.
Ron was born June 16, 1934 in Camden-on-Gauley, WV to Florence Jane and Earl Harvey Morris. He retired in 1996 from Baytown Junior School in Baytown, TX, where he taught 8th grade science for 17 years. He was the first president, and driving force, of the Goose Creed Federation of Teachers. Along with a handful of other teachers, he was instrumental in saving the private pension plan for the employees of the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Earl Buckley Morris.
Survivors include his wife Sue of the family home; a son, Ronald David Morris II of Seabrook, TX; a brother, William L. Morris of Slippery Rock, PA; three sisters, Joan Street of Houston, June Moyer of Baytown, TX, and Fern Rose of Ivydale, WV, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, December 3, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cloudcroft, NM.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Hamilton-O’Dell Funeral Home, Alamogordo, NM.

VERTA LEE "RUSTY" REEVES
Verta Lee “Rusty” Reeves, 80, of La Grange, passed away on Friday, November 29,2002 at South Austin Medical Center, Austin,Tx. She was born on January 7,1922 in Swiss Alp,Tx., to Alfred and Elsa (Frank) Krause.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in LaGrange, a member of the Ladies Circle at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Secretary-treasurer of La Grange Dance Club for many years and was an avid golfer and bowler. She was married to Andrew Heselmeyer on November 30,1941 in La Grange,Tx. and to Clifford Reeves on September 2,1990 in La Grange,Tx.
She is survived by her husband Clifford Reeves of La Grange,Tx., one son; Lee Heselmeyer and wife Cynthia of Baytown,Tx., one daughter; Jane Heselmeyer Hammitt and husband Tom of Austin, three grandchildren; Todd Hammitt of Austin, Eric Heselmeyer of College Station, one sister; Lenore Wells of Wilson,Tx., one step-son Larry Reeves and wife Karen of Kansas City,MO, 2 step-grandchildren; Ryan Reeves of Kansas City, MO., Wesley Reeves of Kansas City,MO.

W.G. (Jerry) Wilkerson, 79, passed away, Wednesday, November 27, 2002.
Jerry was a resident of Livingston for the past 11 years. He was a former resident of Baytown where he worked for Exxon Production as a Mechanic and owned and operated an Exxon Service Station.

FRANCES FORD
Frances Ford, 80, of Highlands went to be with the lord Friday, November 29,2002. She was born January 17,1922 in Bromide,OK. to Herbert and Mattie Atkins.
Frances was a homemaker who devoted her time to her husband and family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Highlands. She enjoyed cooking, family get togethers, shopping, reading the Bible. But most of all spending time with her family and especially the grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son; Mike Ford, and one sister; Willie Mae Venus.

JIMMIE WILSON STEPHENS
Jimmie Wilson Stephens affectionately known as “Mama Jimmie” entered into rest on Saturday, November 30,2002. Born December 18,1912 “Mama Jimie” lived a long and full life. Although faced with many trials throughout her life such as the deaths of her young child and husband, she always maintained a brave attitude of dealing with life’s adversities.
She is survived by her daughters; Betty Dolch of Columbus,Tx. and Karen Rios of Baytown and their respective spouses, grandchildren; Sheila Avaria, Cathy Boggs, Matil Sakr, Cathy Spencer, Danny Rios and Johnathon Rios, great-grandchildren; Alexander Avaria, Lauren Boggs, Taylor Boggs, Andrew Spencer and Nickolas Spencer.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Claude and her son Jimmie Steve.

George Donald Evans, 62, of Wallisville went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 30, 2002. He was born November 30, 1940 in Atlanta, GA to William and Frances Evans.
George worked as a tire repairman for Martin Gas Transportation.

THERESA CENIA POPE
Theresa Cenia Pope, 84, of Baytown, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 30, 2002.
Born to Willie Pope and Jessie Mae Gunn in Eagle Lake, Texas, “Aunt T” came to Baytown at the age of 2 years old. She attended George Washington Carver School located at Mt. Rose Baptist Church. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. John Baptist Church. She returned to Eagle Lake, Texas and graduated from E.H. Henry High School in Eagle Lake. While in school she was active in sports, playing basketball, tennis, and running track. She returned to Baytown in 1938 where she was an active member of Greater St. John Baptist Church, then under the leadership of Rev. Lampley and Rev. Langston. She was active in the Sr. Choir, attended BTU, Sunday School, Bible Band, and Mission. She also was a member of the Eastern Star. She worked hard all her life while raising her niece and nephew, Bennie Jewel and Johnny. She worked at the White Star Laundry and Griggs Cleaners as a presser and was a nurse’s aide at Baytown Nursing Home. She retired from old San Jacinto Hospital after 30 years in housekeeping.
For 21 years she lived in Barrett Station where she was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Matthews where she worked faithfully on the usher board. In 1973 she returned to Baytown and rejoined her home church, St. John Baptist Church where she was an active member in Sunday School, BTU, Sr. Mission, Bible Band, Prayer Meeting, Teachers Meeting and served faithfully as a nurse’s aid until her death.
During her life she always loved her church. She worked faithfully in the church and was loved by all who knew her. She loved children and they loved her. She raised and cherished her beloved nieces Bennie Jewel and Theresa, nephew, Johnny and her great niece, “Tootie”.
She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, Peter Gunn, T. Cenia Pope and Polly Gunn, sister, Pauline Etheridge, brother, Johnny Etheridge, great nephew, Randy Martin, nephew, Johnny Henson and brother-in-law, J.B. Henderson.
She leaves to cherish her memory and will be deeply missed by her sisters, Willie Mae Henderson and Janell Wilson, adopted brother and sister, Deacon Gilbert and Helen Phillips, all of Baytown; two nieces, Bennie J. Martin of Oakland, Calif.; Theresa Arline and husband Richard of Baytown; two great nieces, Joycelynn Flowers of Houston; Lamira Doyle Hamilton of Baytown; two great nephews, Kelvin and James Martin both of Oakland; great-nephew-to-be, Richard Ashton, God nieces, Helen Doyle and Dorothy Woodall, great God niece, Hunter Nicole Hamilton, special God son and family, Ronald and Darlene Flowers, Demetria Flowers and Ronald Flowers, Jr., special friends, Dr. and Mrs. H. W. Kilpatrick, III and family, Don and Sid Faust, Neva Adcox, Delores Owens, special cousin, Tommy Charles Pettus and family and a host of other relatives and friends.

WILLIE ROENA CARTER
Willie Roena Carter, 95, of Baytown, passed away, Monday, December 2, 2002 in a local Health Care Center.
She was born October 7, 1907 in Moro, Texas. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and had been a member of Lee College Seniors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gobel Carter and grandson, Ricky Carter.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Otis and Cora Lee Carter , daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Franklin Krampota, grandchildren, Oliver Carter, D.L. Sims, Daymon Sims, Tonya Boyer, eight grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

ANNE G. PHELPS
Anne G. Phelps, age 84 of Madison died peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2002 at Oak Park Nursing Home, as a victim of Alzheimer’s.
She was born on May 3, 1918 in Altoona, Pa., the daughter of Homer and Martha (Notestine) Grove. She married Ellsworth Phelps Jr. on September 18, 1943 in Ruxton, Maryland. They met at Glenn L. Martin Engineering, now Martin Marietta.
Anne was a partner in life as Ellsworth taught and coached in boy’s schools and returned to engineering as a part of the NASA space program. Anne enjoyed her work in interior decorating and furniture sales. She was a great supporter of community theatre. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, and the outdoors. Anne’s first love was always her family. She had great concern for and frequently offered generous support for the welfare of others. She had great affection for her dog Henry. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Baytown, Texas. Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Phelps of Madison, WI; her son, Ellsworth (Helene) Phelps of Madison, WI; 3 grandchildren: Tyler, Addie, and Kate Phelps; and two brothers, Dean N. Grove of Englewood, FL and Fred Grove of Oakmont, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ellsworth Phelps Jr.; two brothers, Don S. Grove and Homer S. Grove Jr.; and two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Frances Niemeyer.
No funeral services will be held.
Burial will be at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Maryland.

FELIX RAY GIPSON
Felix Ray Gipson, 60 of Baytown, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2002 at the Texas Heart Institute. He was born in Lufkin, Texas on November 26, 1942. He was employed with Solvay Polymers for 33 years and member of the Sampson Masonic Lodge #231 in Highlands. His professional affiliations include E.U.S Electrical Engineers and A.C.P. Engineers. He was also a member of the Baytown Kennel Club. When he wasn’t spending time with his family, he enjoyed hunting and spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed his home and working in his garden.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marion Reese Gipson; daughters, Rhonda Gipson Gray and her husband, Tommy of LaPorte, and Mindy Gipson Lindsay of Pasadena; sons, Felix Gipson, Jr. and his wife, Cindy of Baytown, and Donald Gipson from Baytown; and grandchildren Virginia Fanestiel, Donna Rossino, Edward Rossino, Jr., Tiffany Gipson, Courtney Gipson, Brittany Gipson, Stephanie Gipson, Donald Gipson, Jr., Jason Gipson, Ryland Gipson, Seth Gipson, Amanda White, Taylor Lindsay.

BUFORD FULCHER
Buford Fulcher, 69, died Sunday, December 1, 2002 at his home from an apparent heart attack. He was born in Baytown and lived here all his life except for three years he spent in the U.S. Army. His parents were J.H. and Fannie Fulcher.
He attended Baytown schools and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1951. He was an avid Ganders fan and he attended Lee’s last game with Pearland. He retired from Occidental Chemical Co. in Deer Park after working 37 years.
Buford is survived by his wife of 45 years, Donya Harris Fulcher. His three sisters are Sybil Latham of Baytown; Ann Perkins of Alvin and Jo Solis and her husband Russell of Baytown. He has five nieces, one nephew, great nieces and nephews and one new great-great-nephew in S. Carolina. His parents, his father and mother-in-law, M.C. and Erma Harris and his brother, T.J. Fulcher preceded him in death.
Buford’s life revolved around his church, First Church of the Nazarene, and he was involved in many areas. He presently served as Sunday School Superintendent, as a member of the Worship Team, and as teacher of an adult class. He also served on the Houston District Nazarene Missions International Council. His heart was in missions and he was privileged to go on Work and Witness trips to Trinidad, the Azores and Portugal, Ecuador, Venezuela and Rome.
Buford met friends at Kroger’s every morning for breakfast where they discussed and solved most of the world’s problems. He was a member of the Keenagers bowling league, he enjoyed playing golf and used to be an avid hunter. He had antique shops on Park Street, then on Decker Drive and finally in Bay Plaza where he met many wonderful people who still remember him as “Mr. Buford.”
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. today, December 3, 2002 at Navarre Funeral Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at Navarre Chapel with Rev. Brance Moyer officiating and Dr. Duane Srader assisting. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to a memorial at First Church of the Nazarene, P.O. Box 1363, Baytown, TX 77522, which will be used for a missions project.

BARBARA SJOLANDER CRYER
Barbara Sjolander Cryer, 65, of Baytown, passed away, Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital.
Barbara was born August 7, 1937 in Goose Creek. She was a life-long resident of Baytown. She was a groomer for Town and Country, she was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, P.J. Cryer, daughter and son-in-law, Julia Stewart and Ricky of Baytown; brother, George W. Sjolander of Reisel, Tx.; grandchildren, Kelsey Stewart and Kendyl Stewart.
Visitation will be from 6 - 9 p.m. today, December 4, 2002 at Navarre Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 5, 2002 at Victory Baptist Church, 1800 E. Archer Road, Baytown with Pastor Danny Bezet officiating.
Interment will follow at Memory Gardens.

Trudy Gardner, 85, of Baytown, passed away Monday, December 2, 2002 in a local hospital.
Trudy was a resident of Baytown for over 20 years and was a teacher at St. Joseph’s Catholic school. She was a member of Missouri Street Church of Christ.

MUDO C. HERNANDEZ
Mundo C. Hernandez went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 02, 2002 in Houston at the age of 71.
He was born on January 23, 1931 in Beasley, Texas to the union of Pablo & Rafaela Hernandez.
Mr. Hernandez is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 42 years, Frances; children, Raymundo Hernandez & wife Donna, Mary Johnson & husband Rodney, Rachel Palmer & husband Nathan, SanJuana Hernandez, Jacqueline Moreno & husband Jack, Rebecca Spain & husband Lonnie, David Hernandez & wife Lexie, Virginia Hernandez, Amanda Ramos & husband Gerardo and Deana Hernandez; 27 grandchildren, great-grandson, Joshua; two brothers, three sisters and a host of other relatives and friends.
The Hernandez family will receive visitors today, December 4, 2002 from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at San Jacinto Funeral Home. A rosary will be held that evening at 8:30 p.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 827 Sheldon Rd., Channelview, TX.
The Celebration of the Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church. Burial and military honors will follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park. He was an honest, hard-working, courageous man who touched many lives. His charity and goodwill will be truly missed by his family and friends.

W.G. (JERRY) WILKERSON
W.G. (Jerry) Wilkerson, 79, passed away, Wednesday, November 27, 2002.
Jerry was a resident of Livingston for the past 11 years. He was a former resident of Baytown, where he worked for Exxon Production as a mechanic and owned and operated an Exxon Service Station.
Jerry is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Sandra Wilkerson of Livingston; Bobby and Rachel Wilkerson of Chickashe, Okla.; daughter, Judy Huddleston of Livingsotn; sister, Opal Gipson and a brother, W.T. Wilkerson both of Baytown; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2002 at Earthman Funeral Home Chapel, 3919 Garth Rd., Baytown with Chaplain Cecil Vaden officiating.

ROY CLAYTON MODESETT
Roy Clayton Modesett, 89, of Dolen, passed away, Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at his home.
Roy was born February 13, 1913 in Rayburn. He lived in Dolen for 38 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Romayor and a member of Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge. He retired in 1964 from Humble Oil Company in Baytown. He was a veteran of WW II, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart and survived Battle of The Bulge.
He was preceded in death by his stepson, Wilford Gardner of Baytown.
He is survived by his wife Ellen Modesett of Dolen; stepson Winston Gardner and daughter-in-law, Brenda Gardner of Baytown; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. today, December 4, 2002 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2002 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland.
Interment will follow at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie, Tx.
Pallbearers will be Greg Gardner, Gerald Gardner, Galen Gardner, Wiley Gardner, Terry Cox and Steve Salinas.
