EVELYN INEZ GARBS
Evelyn Inez Garbs of Crosby passed away on Friday, November 22, 2002, at the Vosswood Health Center in Houston. Inez was born on November 11, 1912, to William Walter and Vida Bland Morris in Deweyville, Texas.
Inez is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Arnold H.Garbs; two sisters, Eileen Reidland and Blanche Cox; and one brother, William Harold Morris.
Inez was a very devote mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking pies and cakes and loved to quilt, crochet, knit and sew. She was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Inez is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne and Ben Doskocil of Highlands, Gayle and Roger Ramsey of Houston, and Marsha and Willis Beene of Spring. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Penny Johnson, Paul Doskocil, Phyllis Doskocil, Craig Ramsey, Chris Ramsey, Carrie Williams, Curtis Ramsey, Lesa Boswell, and Laurie Majeski; nineteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Novice Stout; a brother, Bob Morris; sisters-in-law, Mary Garbs, Ruby Garbs, Sybil Garbs, and Gardina Kristynik, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 24, 2002 at Sterling White Chapel in Highlands from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
Funeral Services will be Monday, November 25, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Sterling White Chapel in Highlands.
Interment will follow at Earthman Memory Gardens in Baytown.

SANDRA JEAN ANTLE
Sandra Jean Antle, 59, of Livingston,Tx. passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2002 at Methodist Diagnostic Houston, Tx. She was born on November 28,1942, in Clute, Tx. Sandra married Jimmy Antle in Baytown,Tx. She was employed as a receptionist with Merichem Industry in Channelview, Tx.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Jimmy Leon Antle of Livingston,Tx.; parents, Bernard and Pauline Hall of Livingston,Tx.; son, Jay Antle of Lawrence,KA; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Sandra Simmons of Livingston,Tx. and niece Dena Scott of Mt.Belvieu,Tx.

ZELLA RUTH PRICE
Zella Ruth Price, 75, of Baytown and formerly of Mt. Enterprise,Tx., passed away Thursday, in Baytown. She was born May 1, 1927 in Cusing,Tx. to Sam and Lilie Mae Birdwell Pierce. She had lived in Baytown for a year and lived in Mt. Enterprise for many years. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Mt Belvieu Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Price.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws; David and Pam Price of Mt. Belvieu,Tx., and Steven Fred Price of Highlands,Tx.; sister, Ruby Lee McCoy of Baytown, three grandchildren; David Price Jr., Jody Rene Roberts and Joseph Hoffman, two great-grandchildren; Emily Nicole Roberts and Kaylnn Price.
Pallbearers will be Paul Reeves, Dale Johnson, Freddy Swann, Robby Roberts, Mike Anderson and E.J. Freeman.
Visitation will be today, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. November 24, 2002 at the funeral home in Cushing.
Services will be Monday, November 25, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dickie Allen Funeral Home in Cushing with Rev. Gene Webb officiating.

BERNICE "DEA" ELIZABETH HAVARD
Bernice “Bea” Elizabeth Havard, 86, of Crosby went to be with the Lord Friday, November 22, 2002. She was born January 26,1916 in Crosby to Oscar and Ida Reidland.
Bernice worked for the Tax Assessors office as a tax collector for the Crosby I.S.D. and worked for a time as a bank teller for Crosby State Bank. Bernice was a life member of the First Baptist Church of Crosby. Bernice was quite a basketball player when she was younger making the All-State team in high school, and playing for the Dr. Pepper girl’s nation wide for a time. Her other interests include working crossing puzzles, traveling, walking, or just being on the go. Her biggest joy came spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands; Donald J. Carter and Claude D. Havard.
Bernice is survived by two children; Kay Ford of Clear Lake,Tx. Don Carter and wife Sherry of Pasadena,Tx. three grandchildren; Scott Ford and wife Andrea of Frisco,Tx., Carrie Meador and husband Trey of Friendswood, Kellie Carter of Pasadena,Tx., great-granddaughter; Kate Ashston Meador of Friendswood, sisters, Janet Denson and husband Tommy of Crosby, Natalie Smith and husband Dale of Houston, Viola Stevens of Crosby, Wanda Moore and husband James of West Columbia,Tx., sisters-in-law, Vida Havard of Houston, Claudia Carter of New Braunfels,Tx., brother-in-law, Troy Whitesides of Baytown, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

WILMA LEE LADD "MEME" BARROW
Wilma Lee Ladd “Meme” Barrow of Devers passed away on Saturday in a local hospital. Wilma was born on August 30, 1923, to John and Dorothy Ladd.
She was a very devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and participating in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank all of Meme’s loving caregivers at San Jacinto Hospital-Decker campus, Heartland Hospice and Baystar Ambulance Service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Clint Barrow; son, Arthur Wayne Barrow; her grandchildren, Melanie Shay Barrow, Lori Welch, John Barrow, James Barrow and Lloyd Barrow; and her sister, Lucille King.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Larry and Barbie Barrow, daughter Sandy Saxton, grandchildren Misty McKeithen, Cody McKeithen, Ashley McKeithen, Taylor Welch, Maddie Welch and Kim Davidson and brothers and sisters-in-law J.C. and Nora Lee Ladd and Hal and Laverne Ladd.

Denise Ann Cook, 36, passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a resident of Cove and lived here for 10 years. She was born Dec. 18,1965, in Oaklawn, Ill.
Denise was a photo manager. She was a member of Assembly of God Church and a member of the Womens Auxiliary of the Seabrook Volunteer Fire Department.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Cook Sr. of Cove; son, Bobby Cook Jr. of Cove; daughter-in-law, Tabatha Ann Cook of Cove; brother, Dennis Jeppson Jr. of California; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ray and Trish Cook, Diane and Jeff Meyers and Ruth Lovett; mother, Joanne Walters of California; grandmother, Viola Jeppson of California; sisters Donna Johnson of Lake Ridge, Va., and Debe Moss of Cove, and mother-in-law, Delores Cook.

JAMES "JAMIE" TAYLOR FRALEY JR.
James “Jamie” Taylor Fraley Jr., 34, passed away on Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at his residence.
Jamie graduated from Barbers Hill High School in 1986 and later graduated from Lee College with a degree in Social Science.
He is survived by his daughter, Dana Fraley of LaPorte; mother, Diane Mae Fraley of Highlands; father, James T. Fraley Sr. of Mont Belvieu; brother and sister-in-law, David and Kathy Fraley of Mont Belvieu; and aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

MARY INEZ HILL LABOA
Mary Inez Hill LaBoa, 88, of Baytown went to be with the lord Friday, Nov. 22, 2002. She was born Feb. 14, 1914, in Wilcox, Texas, to Andrew and Maggie Crowley.
Mary was a member of the Old River Terrace United Methodist Church in Channnelview. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, but most of all taking care of her family.
Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Tony LaBoa, parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Mary is survived by three sons, Lt. Gen. Guy A.J. LaBoa and wife Patricia of Dawsonville, Ga., Gaylon C. LaBoa and wife Jenny of Channelview, Raymond E. LaBoa and wife Jane of Auburn, Calif.; two daughters, Teresa McCall and husband Charles of Kingwood, and Sue McCune and husband Micheal of Elkton, Md.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; niece Noma McIntrye of Abilene, Texas; sisters-in-law, Tina Rudd of Houston, Rose LaBoa of Houston and Josephine Nerlinger of Boerne, Texas; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

PANSY FERRIS MARTIN
Pansy Ferris Martin passed away Nov. 23, 2002. She was born Oct. 8, 1909, in Austin.
If she had lived during the writing of the Holy Scriptures, surely there would have been a book there named “Pansy,” as there were for “Ester” and “Ruth.” She was one of God’s special women, gentle, kind, and a true example of Proverbs 31 women. “Mother Dear” was loved and adored by all of her family and those who knew her.
She was married to the Rev. Everett Martin for 63 years. They served in eight Texas Baptist Churches. Their last pastorate was at First Baptist Church in Humble, Texas. The Rev. Martin preceded her in death 12 years ago. They were the parents of three children, Juanda June Tucker of Onalaska, Dolores Jeanne Gray of Baytown, and Everett S. “Bunny” and Mary Atta of Dallas.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dolores Moreno, Charles Pursley, Steffani Jacks, David and Lisa Gray, Everett S. Martin and Lori; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Stovall of Austin and Saralynn Sullivan of Baytown and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be today, Nov. 25, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home.

KENNETH ERNEST RUPP
Kenneth Ernest Rupp, 56, of Highlands went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 4, 1946, in Dallas, Texas, to Pete and Sara Rupp.
Kenneth worked for Exxon-Mobil for 33 years as a section supervisor. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Kenneth enjoyed golfing and was a baseball enthusiast, who played baseball and softball, coached baseball and enjoyed watching it. His biggest joy came from spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Connie Rupp of Highlands; one son, Clay Rupp and fiancee Jennifer Ward of Highlands; two daughters, Whitney Frawner and husband Jack of Deer Park and Lindsay Rupp and fiancee Tommy McMorrow of Highlands; mother, Sara Rupp of Highlands; two brothers, Kevin Rupp and wife Kathi of Plano and Chris Rupp and wife Lisa of North Shore; one sister, Stephanie Wheeler and husband Jim of Deer Park; grandchildren, Colby Rupp of Baytown, Chloe Rupp of Baytown and Luke Frawner of Deer Park, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Kathy E. Stephens, 70, of Baytown, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 in a local hospital.
Kathy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, she will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Catherine and Roy Ferrell, two brothers, Frank Diehl and Leroy Ferrell and one sister, Betty Johnson.

ROY KIRKLEY
Roy Kirkley, 89, a resident of Baytown for 62 years, was born February 18, 1913 in Tatum, Texas and passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2002 in a local hospital.
He retired from Exxon Refinery in 1976, where he was the only editor of the News and Views, which for 7 years was the magazine of the Baytown Employees Federation at Humble Oil. After his retirement, he founded the Roy Kirkley Photography Studio. A U.S. Army veteran of WWII, he was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the A.C.L.U., and during the 1950’s and 60’s he was very active in the East Harris County Democratic Party.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Friday, November 29, 2002, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary starting at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Nick Novak officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Oakland Cemetery in Navasota.
He is preceded in death by his 1st wife of 34 years, Frances Kirkley and is survived by his wife, Edith M. Kirkley of Baytown; son, Robert Kirkley of Baytown; brother, Dr. John B. Kirkley of Memphis, TN; grandsons, Paul Y. Kirkley of Houston and SSgt John Y. Kirkley, U.S. Army, of Korea; and 6 great grandchildren.

DUSTIN THOMAS DERRYBERRY
Dustin Thomas Derryberry, born February 7, 1982 in Baytown, Texas, died November 25, 2002 at the age of 20. Dustin lived in Kingwood for 12 years and attended Kingwood High School and Ross Sterling High School in Baytown. He played basketball, baseball, and football while living in Kingwood and also played basketball with the Singles Group at Forest Cove Baptist Church in Kingwood. Dustin is survived by his mother, Randa Marlow and her husband, Scott of Kingwood; father, Thomas Derryberry and his wife Carolyn; grandmother, Beverly Kaack and her husband, Lee; grandfather, Roy Shafer and his wife, Donna; grandmother, Allene Dunstan and her husband, Pete; great grandmothers, Clara Maulfair and Gladys Derryberry; sister, Crystal Bryan; step-brother, Robert Redding; niece, Britnay Bryan; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives. WILLIAM (BILL) HERBST
William (Bill) Herbst, 61, of Old River-Winfree passed away, Friday, November 22, 2002 in Baytown.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 11, 1941, and served in the United States Air Force. He lived his life in Mississippi, Louisiana, Ohio and Texas. After serving in the Air Force, he drove trucks all over the county.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mildred Schlesinger Herbst.
His surviving family members include his daughter, Renah Herbst and her children, Mikey, Billy and Anthony, sister, Carol Jean Herbst of Avondale, Arz.; longtime friends, Hazel Steadham, James Steadham and Linda Steadham of Old River-Winfree.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at Houston National Cemetery.

DOROTHY O. SHERRON
Dorothy O. Sherron, 92, of La Porte, passed away, Monday, November 25, 2002 in a local Healthcare Center.
Dorothy was born, August 21, 1910 in Paris, Texas. She lived in Baytown for 27 years. She was the Food Service Manager in the Union Building of Sam Houston University and was a member of the Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Sherron.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Doris Sherron of Baytown; daughter, Ella Louis Sherron of Baytown; grandchildren, Mark Sherron of Houston; Darla Racz of Clear Lake; great-grandchildren, John David Racz, William Racz, Sherron Racz, numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m.Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at Grandview Cemetery.

RONALD LAYNE SMITH
Ronald Layne Smith, 65, of Crosby went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, November 26, 2002.
He was born July 14, 1937 in Baytown to Verl and Nellie Mae Smith.
Ronald work for Harris County as a Park Supervisor for 30 plus years and retired in 1996. He worked for the Huber plant prior to working for Harris County, and was a deputy constable for precinct #3, he also owned S&S Western Coral in Highlands for 10 years. Ronald was a cowboy at heart who loved horses and mules. He coached little league baseball, and was a Volunteer fireman for the Highlands fire department. Ronald always gave of himself and never asked for anything in return. His biggest joy came from spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren, he never missed one of their functions and was very active in their events.
Ronald is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward Smith.
Ronald is survived by his loving children, Sharon Cotton and husband Ray of Crosby; Ronald L. Smith, Jr. and wife Terri of Baytown; Danny W. Smith and wife Marianne of Baytown; Lisa Henning and husband Randall of Highlands; mother of his children, Elizabeth Smith of Highlands; brother, Norman Smith and wife Barbara of Highlands; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Beatrice Prieto Flores, 58, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital-Decker Campus.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her father, Juan Prieto, step-father, Willie Auzenne and mother Carlota Prieto; son, Jose Angel Flores, brothers, Juan and Raymundo Prieto; sister, Andrea Prieto.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Daniel Flores of Baytown; daughters and sons-in-laws, Pauline and Andres Perez, Angela Flores and Robert Marines, all of Baytown, and Andrea and Lloyd Galvan of Hankamer; sons and daughter-in-laws, Daniel Flores Jr. and wife Beatrice of Baytown, Ilario Flores and Nora Posada of Beeville; son, Jose Flores III, Gustavo Flores, and Jose Angel Flores, all of Baytown; brother, Richard Auzenne of Baytown; Sister and brother-in-law, Adreana and Alberto Cerda of Baytown; sister-in-law, Mary Prieto of Baytown; half-brother, Manuel Garcia of Baytown; father, Ciprano Garcia of Baytown and 23 grandchildren.

HOWARD SAMPSON
Howard Sampson, 80, of Baytown, passed away, Wednesday, November 27, 2002 in a Houston hospital.
Howard was born September 5, 1922 in Patterson, Tx. He lived in the Baytown area for 50 years. He was a member of Antioch, M.B.C., founder of “Fat Sam’s Cafe”. He was a retired pipefitter at Exxon Refinery after 43 years of service. He served his county in the Armed Forces. Howard was an avid outdoor man, he loved to hunt and will be greatly missed by his family and community.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Annie R. Sampson and his parents.
He is survived by his son, Howard Earl Sampson of Baytown; daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Lonnie Caleb of Baytown; Alice and Whitney Nichols of Baytown, Annie Goodall of Baytown; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins and friends.
Visitation and wake will be from 7 - 9 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2002 at Frazier Funeral Home, 7623 Harrison, Baytown.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2002 at Antioch M.B.C., 2500 Harris Street, Baytown with Bishop Sherman Gray, Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park.

MELVIN TODD
Melvin Todd, passed away in Gilroy, Monday, November 25, 2002 after a short illness at the age of 91 years.
Loving husband of Annie Mae Todd of Los Banos, Ca.; father of Melvin Jean Scales of Houston; John Henry Todd of Houston; Hattie Myers of Baytown; Princess Ann Todd of Los Banos and Felicia Elmore Todd of Los Banos. Grandfather of 14, great-grandfather of 11. He was the last of 13 children in his family. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. A native of Oklahoma.
Rev. John L. Bates will officiate Mr. Todd’s funeral service on December 4, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Paradise Chapel, 10401 W. Montgomery Rd., Houston. Burial will follow the services at Paradise North Cemetery, Houston.

LILLIAN VIOLA MIKS
Lillian Viola Miks, 78, of Baytown, passed away, Friday, November 29, 2002 in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Miks was a member of Cedar Bayou Methodist Church for more than 40 years, she graduated from Baylor College of Medicine and was a registered nurse.
She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Hattie Schaer and a brother August F. Schaer, Jr.
Surviving relatives are her husband of 54 years, Albert K. Miks of Baytown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael K. and Sandra Miks of Baytown; James D. and Linda Miks of Baytown; one brother, Alfred Louis Schaer of East Bernard; granddaughters, Suzanne Miks, Samantha Miks, Amanda Miks, grandson, Justin Miks and numerous other relatives. Family will receive friends from 3 - 6 p.m. today, November 30, 2002 at Earthman Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2002 at Alexander Chapel of Cedar Bayou Methodist Church, 2714 Ferry Road in Baytown with Rev. Roddy Bland and Rev. Jeff Powers officiating.

BESSIE PAVLISKA SCHMADL
Bessie Pavliska Schmadl, 88, of Baytown, passed away, Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at a local nursing home.
Mrs. Schmadl was a homemaker and a waitress at The Tower and Rebel Inn. She was of the Catholic Faith and a loving mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Schmadl, a daughter and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one son, Robert Schmadl and wife Sylvia of Highlands; one sister, Judy Kennedy of Baytown; grandchildren, John David Schmadl and wife Anggie of Huffman; Mauree Cisneros and husband Frank of Baytown; Angel Schmadl and Fiancé Angela Zurovec of Highland; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Dillon and Dominick.
Family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2002 at Earthman Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2002 at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1907 Carolina St., in Baytown with Father Dwight Canizares officiating.
Interment will be at White Cemetery in Highlands.
