CARTHAGE - Services for Ruth Boggs, 70, of Carthage will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 26, at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Will and Dr. David Holder officiating. Burial will be in City Cemetery. Mrs. Boggs died Monday, March 23, 1998, in Longview. She was born Dec. 17, 1927, in Orange, Texas, to May Hilda Nobles Siau and Robert E. Lee. She was a longtime resident of Carthage and a member of the Southside Baptist Church. Mrs. Boggs was preceded in death by her husband, Milton L. Boggs, on Feb. 21, 1997. Survivors include two sons, David Wayne Boggs and Milton Paul Boggs, both of Carthage; her daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra and Johnny Joe Lott of Mena, Ark., and Brenda Boggs of Longview; one brother, Fred Siau of Orange, Texas; two sisters, Irene Kuchar of Groves, Texas, and Edna Mae Johnson of Port Arthur, Texas; three grandchildren, Lloyd Lee Lott, Ashley Boggs and Joshua Boggs; and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing begins at 10 a.m. today and visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

JACKSONVILLE - Services for Ernest Ferrell, 90, of Jacksonville and Gallatin, Texas, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at Thompson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with the Rev. Jason Williams and the Rev. Dick Stagner officiating. Burial will be in Jarratt Cemetery near Jacksonville. Mr. Ferrell died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at a Jacksonville hospital. He had lived in Jacksonville and Gallatin most of his life. Mr. Ferrell was a retired farmer and a member of Travis Street Baptist Church of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Ferrell; his sons Jarvis and Bubba Ferrell; and a grandson, Selwyn Ferrell. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Sonny and Glenda Ferrell of Tyler; a daughter and son-in-law, LaVerne and David Williams of Longview; a daughter-in-law, Jenny Ferrell of Houston; two sisters, Alma Mae Jenkins and Lucille Gibson, both of Rusk; a sister-in-law, Marie Ferrell of Houston; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mr. FerrellÕs grandsons and nephews. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today, March 25, at the funeral home.

Mr. Holcomb was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Upshur County to the late John T. and Ann Holcomb. He died Monday, March 23, at a Longview hospital. He was a retired public school teacher and a retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant. He is survived by six daughters, Margarete Ann Giles of Corpus Christi, Charlotte Hollis of Gladewater, Cecilia Hairston of Hallsville, Mary Dennison of Houston, Terri Allen of Mesquite and Shirley Joiner of Huntsville; two brothers, Madison Holcomb of McCloud, Okla., and Roy Holcomb of Mount Enterprise; seven sisters, Velma Youngblood of Gilmer, Alma Chiles of Gilmer, Edith Koon of Hallsville, Johnni Handley of Amarillo, Juanita Still of Dallas, Alice Larkin of Crosby and Elaine Cornell of Houston; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Lee (Nell) Smith, 92, of Lewisville, formerly of Longview, will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Ford Chapel of the First Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Hatfield and the Rev. Larry Grayson officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. She died Monday morning at a Carrollton nursing home. Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 8, 1906, in Lanier, Texas, to a pioneer East Texas family, John and Eunice Fant Dodd. She was a Longview resident from 1943 to 1988, when she moved to Lewisville to be near her daughter. She was a member of the Iris Garden Club, the Forum, and the First Baptist Church, where she was involved in the children's ministry and the Women's Missionary Union. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Jerry Crossland of Lewisville; a son and daughter-in-law, John Dodd and Helen Smith of Giddings, Texas; her grandchildren, Bryan Smith, Cathy Smith, Jana Crossland and Jennifer Crossland; her great-grandchildren, Garrett and Rachel Smith; and a sister, Johnnie Nelson of Irving.

Howard Tabb Bennett
Services for Howard Tabb Bennett, 42, of Shreveport, La., formerly of Longview, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Welch Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Bennett died suddenly Tuesday morning at a Shreveport hospital. He was born Aug. 11, 1955, in Gladewater and had been a resident of Shreveport since 1992. Mr. Bennett was a member of the United Methodist Church and had received a bachelor of arts degree in science and a bachelor of arts degree in business from the University of Texas at Austin. He had worked at Motorola in Austin for many years. Mr. Bennett is survived by his mother, Dorothy Tabb Bennett of Shreveport; his brother and sister-in-law, Walter H. III and Debra Bennett of Phoenix, Ariz.; his nephews, Scott Bennett of Phoenix and Kyle Bennett of Shreveport; and his grandmother, Rubye Wright of Longview.

A resident of Gladewater for 48 years, he retired after 40 years as an independent insurance agent at Williams and Butcher Insurance Agency. Mr. Butcher was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gladewater. He is survived by his wife, Helen Butcher of Gladewater; a daughter, Melody Butcher of Euless; and an aunt, Faye Thrash of Hope, Ark. Mrs. Hutchison was born in Denver, Colo., on Feb. 21, 1911, and was called home to be with our Lord on Sunday, March 22, 1998. She was preceded in death by Paul W. Hutchison, her husband of 64 years. Mrs. Hutchison was a published poet and worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for many years in Denver and Dallas. She was a member of the Poets of Gregg County and had lived in Longview since 1982. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lucinda and Larry Hamilton of Longview; her son and daughter-in-law, Warner and Merilyn Hutchison of Las Cruces, N.M.; and her daughter and son-in-law Martha and Bob Wilson of London, Ontario, Canada. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Robert Hamilton, Lisa Hamilton DeBellevue, Kenneth Hutchison, Laura Hutchison, Jeannie Wilson and Paul Wilson, and four great-grandchildren, Richard, Alaina, Michael and Andrew DeBellevue. Erma D. Robertson
Services for Erma D. Robertson will be held on Friday, March 27, at noon at Wesley United Methodist Church in Longview, Texas, with entombment immediately following at Memory Park Cemetery. She died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, in a local hospital. Erma, daughter of Lawrence and Ellen Mae Lilley, was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Daingerfield, Texas, and grew up in nearby Jenkins. Erma married Leon Robertson on Feb. 3, 1943, and they began life together in Lakeview, Texas. In 1954, they moved to Longview, which became their home. Erma and Leon joyously celebrated 55 years of marriage this year. Erma was a teacher in the truest sense of the word. She taught fifth- and sixth-graders over 31 years until retiring from Valley View Elementary School in 1984. Erma received a master's degree in education from East Texas State University and a bachelor of arts degree in education from Texas WomanÕs University. Erma was an active member and past president and treasurer of the local chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, a national teachersÕ sorority. Erma was active in her community until the time of her death, serving as a volunteer at Longview Regional Hospital twice weekly. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church throughout her life in Longview. Erma, known as "Mimi" to her grandchildren and to her constant companion, Buffy, is survived by her husband, Leon; three daughters, Karen Stuart of Dallas, Debbie Smith of Longview and Jana Vander Woude of Waco; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Julie Smith and Jeffrey, Michael and Kevin Vander Woude; two sons-in-law, Norman Smith and Rick Vander Woude; and two sisters, Mary Shaver of Pittsburg and Dorothy Marcum of Lake Jackson. Visitation is Thursday, March 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home on Judson Road in Longview.

James F. 'Bud' Wilkins
Services for James F. "Bud" Wilkins, 73, will be held at 1 p.m. today, March 28, at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Slim Sullivan and the Rev. Harry LaGrone officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Wilkins passed away Thursday morning, March 26, 1998, in Kilgore. He was born on Jan. 24, 1925, in Smackover, Ark. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Kilgore. In 1986, he retired from Texas Eastman with 26 years of service. Mr. Wilkins is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce Wilkins; his daughter, Barbara Walker; his sons, Nathan Wilkins and Brady Wilkins; two brothers, Preston Wilkins and Joe Wilkins; a sister, Winnie Bell Kegley; and eight grandchildren. The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
