Eldon E. Clark
Services for Eldon E. "Pappaw" Clark, 89, of Longview will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 12, at the Welch Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Spanhanks officiating. Burial will be in Memory Park Cemetery. Mr. Clark died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 7, 1908, in Stevens, Ark., to Iva Morris and E.B. Clark. Mr. Clark had been a resident of Longview since 1937 and resided at Clarkway Place. He was a member of the Spring Hill First Baptist Church, a former board member of the Spring Hill Independent School District, a former treasurer of the Spring Hill Lions Club and the Spring Hill Welfare Association. Mr. Clark retired from Arco after 37 years. He was a devoted family man, a loving father and a kind friend. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda L. Clark, in 1971 and by his brother, Rex Clark, in 1976. Mr. Clark is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Dixie Clark, and a granddaughter, Nikki Clark, all of Longview. Pallbearers will be Tommy Terry, A.D. Carver, Ted Redmond, David Hines, Chappel Dowell and Mike Crossland. Honorary pallbearers will be R.G. Hensley, Louie Williamson, Esker Richardson, Gene King, Buster Castleberry, Larry Risinger, Les Mendicello, Steve Breazeale, Larry T. Long, Mickey Smith and Denny Smith. The family requests memorials be made to Spring Hill First Baptist Church, 4000 Gilmer Road, Longview, TX 75605.

Charles 'Chuck' Cross
Services for Charles "Chuck" Cross, 65, of Longview will be held at 3 p.m. today, March 12, at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Drew Buckner officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Cross passed away early Tuesday morning, March 10, 1998. Mr. Cross had been a resident of Longview for the past 15 years. He was self-employed with his Action Locksmith business and became known as "The Little Key Man" in East Texas. Mr. Cross loved to fish and was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; a son, Clay Cross; and his sister, Betty Hawley of Toledo, Ohio. The family received friends at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Carmen Holland
Graveside services for Carmen Holland, 88, of Longview will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, in the Old Jacksonville City Cemetery with Welch Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Holland died Monday, March 9, 1998. She had been a resident of Longview since 1947. Mrs. Holland was a Methodist. She had worked in sales at J.C. Penney and Perkins Bros. department stores. Mrs. Holland was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Marshall Holland Sr., in January 1990. Mrs. Holland is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Holland Jr. of Longview; two grandchildren, William Holland of Tyler and Kathleen Holland of Denton; a sister, Sadie Murray of Plymouth, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, in a Fort Worth hospital. He was born Feb. 28, 1928, in Gladewater. He served in both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy. Area survivors include Maggie Lee Fisher of Longview and Frank Pouncy of Palestine. Viewing will be 3-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral parlor and noon-1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Brooks died Thursday, March 12, 1998, in a local hospital. She was born July 5, 1939, in Longview. Mrs. Brooks was a homemaker, a member of the Central Baptist and the Longview Bowling Association, and was elected to the Women BowlerÕs Hall of Fame. Mrs. Brooks is survived by her husband, Wayne Brooks; two daughters, Debra Heaberlin of Longview and Deana Diane Brooks of Tyler; two sons, Cameron Dale Brooks of Longview and Daniel Floyd Brooks of Tyler; her father, C.S. Bryant; two sisters, Leatha Walker and Sandra Gail Taylor, and one brother, Kenneth Wayne Bryant, all of Longview; and six grandchildren.

Burial will be in Ore City Cemetery. Mr. Childress died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, in Jefferson. He was born April 23, 1937, in Gilmer. On Feb. 1, 1975, he married Gearldine Childress in Las Vegas, Nev. He retired from Texas Eastman and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ore City. Mr. Childress was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Florine Childress. He is survived by his wife, Gearldine Childress of Jefferson; a son, Bret Childress of Tatum; his daughter, Toni Childress of Longview; his stepdaughters, Joni Bumgardner of Jefferson and Penni Craig of Marshall; 10 grandchildren; and his aunt, Daisy Williamson of Longview.

Entombment will follow in Rosewood Park Mausoleum. Mrs. Clevenger died Tuesday morning, March 10, 1998, in a Longview hospital. A native of Kansas, she was born June 30, 1910. She had lived in Longview since 1987, moving from Colorado Springs, Colo., where she owned and operated a motel. Mrs. Clevenger was a member of the Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Richardson of Longview; five granddaughters; nine great-grand- children; and one great-great- granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Patterson. She was born May 31, 1934, in Harleton. Raised in Hallsville, she was a 1952 graduate of Hallsville High School. She moved to Dallas, married and raised her family. Upon retirement, she returned to Hallsville. Mrs. Ethridge was a homemaker, an accountant and a member of the Longview Church of Christ. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Ray Ethridge; a daughter, Sherra Cobb; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Tony Dixon; a son and daughter-in-law, Galen and Vivian Ethridge; her brothers and sisters, Henry Wilson, Lennie Jones, Stella Cartwright, Jan Ridgeway, Dan Manuel and John Manuel; six grandchildren, Sonja Cobb, Chad Cobb, Robert Rose Jr., Jeffrey Rose, Alyssa Dixon and Alicia Ethridge; and one great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Cobb. Charles E. Hill
KILGORE - Services for Charles E. Hill, 66, of Kilgore, longtime owner and operator of Kilgore Bus Station, will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 13, at the Rader Funeral Home with the Rev. David Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Cemetery. Mr. Hill died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at his home. He was born in Seminole, Okla., Jan. 20, 1932, and had lived most of his life in Kilgore. Mr. Hill was a 1950 graduate of Kilgore High School, where he played football. Later he attended Kilgore College and went on to obtain a bachelor of arts degree and a master of arts degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. Also, he did doctoral studies at the University of Arkansas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he attended the Masters Sunday School Class. Mr. Hill was a member of the Danville Masonic Lodge 101 and was a Shriner. He is survived by two daughters, Jaree Chambers of San Diego, Calif., and Kelly Regian of Lindale, Texas; four sisters, Ona Schulman of Arp, Texas, Wanda Schulman of Lake Tyler, Texas, Laverne Mercer of Kilgore and Betty Bonds of Kilgore; one brother, J.D. Hill of Gladewater; two grandchildren, Jordyn Chambers of San Diego and Jamie Regian of Lindale; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Ada Hill. The family received friends 6-8 p.m.Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his father, William Frank Jones, and a brother, Douglas Ray Jones. He is survived by his mother, Hazel Jones of Gilmer; one son, Stephen William Jones of Dallas; one daughter, Cynthia Diana Lanther of Lewisville; one grandchild; a brother, Tex Dan Jones of Big Sandy; and a sister, Judy Maynard Sires of Sulphur Springs. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband, Lockey Young, and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Young, of Vivian, La., and three sisters and two brothers, all of Magnolia, Ark. George Helton officiating. Mrs. McCaghren died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, in an Overton nursing home. She was born Jan. 21, 1901, in Smith County to R.H. Williams and Etta Arnold Williams. She attended Arp schools. A resident of Overton since 1967, Mrs. McCaghren was a homemaker and a member of the Overton Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. McCaghren was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. McCaghren, in 1987 and by a son and daughter-in-law, Emmett O. McCaghren and Iantha McCaghren, in 1989. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Betty McCaghren of Houston; a grandson, Michael McCaghren of Houston; a great-grandson, Laken McCaghren; very special friends, Herman and Ruby Yancy of Arp; and several nieces and nephews. Alfred Jennings Parker
CARTHAGE - Services for the Rev. Alfred Jennings Parker, 80, of Carthage will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 14, at Don Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earl Moore and the Rev. Carrol Brooks officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Hill Baptist Cemetery in Rusk County. Arrangements are under the direction of Don Lipsey Funeral Home. Rev. Parker died Thursday, March 12, 1998, in Carthage. He was born in the Pine Hill community in Rusk County on March 22, 1917, the son of Charles Vinson and Elizabeth Louisa Otwell Parker. He served in the United States Army and the United States Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. When discharged, he was a technical sergeant with the Air Force. He moved from Gilmer to Panola County in 1967 and was a Baptist minister for more than 30 years. He had worked with the Texas Highway Department in Carthage and Henderson for over 15 years. He was a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge and the Pine Hill Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies, and the Sharon Temple Shrine of Tyler. The Rev. Parker was also a past chaplain and charter member of the Carthage chapter of Sons of Confederate Veterans, Carthage Noon Lions Club and Central Baptist Church in Carthage. Survivors include his wife, Nelwyn Brown Parker of Carthage; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Alan Dale Parker of Dallas and Mike and Karen Parker of Carthage; a brother, J.C. Parker of Nederland; three sisters, Winnie Davie Jeter of Tennessee, Adele McRae of Henderson and Ouida Stallings of Carthage; seven grandchildren, Paul Parker, Christopher Parker, Alana Parker, Matt Parker, Dan Parker, Jennifer Spradlin and Justin Spradlin; and two great-grandchildren, Stefan Parker and Ty Parker. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Parker, Donnie McRae, Doug Young, Jerry Stallings, Jimmy Ray Parker, Gene Parker and Michael Godfrey. The family received friends 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials may be sent to the Pine Hill Baptist Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 1011, Carthage, TX 75633; to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103; to Panola County Historical and Genealogical Association, 213 N. Shelby St., Carthage, TX 75633; or to an organization of the donor's choice.

Ruth Strange
GILMER - Services for Ruth Strange, 83, of Gilmer will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at First Assembly of God in Gilmer with the Rev. Ronnie Shipman and the Rev. Bruce Wike officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg, directed by Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Strange, a preacher, died Thursday.

Ethel G. Tate
HENDERSON - Services for Ethel G. Tate, 94, of Henderson will be held at 2 p.m. today at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Maurcie Hill officiating. Burial will be in Crims Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Tate died Thursday at a local retirement home. The lifelong resident of Rusk County was born Dec. 6, 1903. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Orene Williams
JEFFERSON - Services for Orene Williams of Jefferson will be held at 11 a.m. today at Mount Olive Baptist Church of Jefferson with the Rev. Henry officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis & Walker Funeral Home. Ms. Williams died Wednesday in Shreveport, La. She was born Oct. 19, 1926, in Linden to Thurman and Vigan Williams.
