Funeral services were held for Ms. Susie Louise Carter,
79, on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the Robertson County
Funeral Home with internment in the Memorial Gardens in Robertson County.
She died on Monday, December 10, 2001 at the Northcrest Medical Center.
She was a resident of Greenbrier, TN.
She is survived by three sons, Billy Ray Carter of Cross Plains, Tennessee,
Horace Wayne Carter of Greenbrier, Tennessee and Tommy Carter of Madison,
Tennessee, four daughters, Mary Ann White of Smyrna, Tennessee, Peggy Curtis
of Smithville, Linda Carol Carter and Lela Kay Chowning, both of Greenbrier,
Tennessee. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Larry W. Cantrell
Funeral services were held for Mr. Larry W. Cantrell, 49, on
Friday, December 14, 2001, at the DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville.
Brother Royce Moore officiated with internment in the Salem Cemetery. He
died Wednesday, December 12, 2001, at his residence after a short illness.
He was a resident of Liberty and a carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Woodrow Cantrell.
He is survived by his wife, Dale Cantrell of Liberty, his mother, Pauline
Cantrell of Smithville, four daughters, Melissa Cantrell of Short Mountain,
DeeDee Miller, Laurel Phillips and Meredith Landrum, and one son, Trey
Landrum, all of Smithville. He is also survived by two sisters, Faye Robinson
of Nashville and Judy Patton of Smithville, one brother, James Cantrell
of Smithville, six grandsons and 11 nieces and nephews.

Carter, Ricky Cantrell, Don Redmon and Ronnie Emberton.

Melissa Tuccillo Strickland
Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Melissa Tuccillo Strickland,
34, on Wednesday, December 19, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Carthage Chapel
of Sanderson Funeral Home. Brother Phillip Lane, Pastor of the West Main
Baptist Church in Alexandria, where Mrs. Strickland was a member, will
officiate. Burial will follow in Smith County Memorial Gardens beside her
sister, Dawn Tuccillo Williams, who died October 25, 1998. She was pronounced
dead on arrival at the Smith County Memorial Hospital at 5:19 a.m. Sunday,
December 16, 2001 following a single car accident on Lancaster Highway.
Mrs. Strickland, a resident of Alexandria, was born in Mercer County
in Trenton, New Jersey and reared in Rock City. She was a 1986 graduate
of Smith County High School and employed by Smith County Day Care Center
at Gordonsville.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Strickland, and two daughters,
Kristen and Jessie Strickland, all of Alexandria. She is also survived
by her parents, Alice Bowers Meredith and John Meredith of Rock City, two
sisters, Angel Bane of Kenny's Bend Community, Sherry Meredith of Mt. Holly,
New Jersey and one brother, Ron Meredith of Rock City.

Ruth Lee Cantrell
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Ruth Lee Cantrell, 69, on
Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the DeKalb Funeral Chapel in
Smithville. Brother Michael Hale officiated with burial in the DeKalb Memorial
Gardens. She died on Sunday, December 9, 2001, at her residence of an extended
illness.
A resident of McMinnville, she was a beautician and a member of the
Gath Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Hassie Certain
Raymond and a brother, Walter Raymond.
She is survived by her husband, Eddie Royce Cantrell of McMinnville,
a daughter, Deborah Howard of Morrison, two granddaughters, Mimi Turner
of Franklin and Andrea Howard of Knoxville. She is also survived by three
sisters, Helen Bell and Mirl Poss, both of McMinnville, Louise Winchester
of Smithville, a brother, T.R. Raymond of McMinnville and 17 nieces and
nephews.

Raymond, Danny Raymond, Jason Raymond and Steven France.

Paul David Kilgore
Funeral services were held for Mr. Paul David Kilgore,
59, on Friday, December 14, 2001 at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria. Sue
Jones Woodard, Brother Roger Willis and Brother Clifford Spence officiated
with internment in the Gordonsville Cemetery in Gordonsville, TN. Mr. Kilgore
died on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville,
TN.
Mr. Kilgore, a resident of Edgewood Road, Alexandria, was born on August
8, 1942 in Marion County, TN. He attended school in Whitwell, TN and worked
for Coca-Cola Company for 15 years. He moved to Smith County in 1988 and
was a truck driver and mechanic for Builders Transport and Penske Leasing.
He was affiliated with the Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, E.L. and Mary Magdalene Kilgore
and by two brothers, James Robert Kilgore and Louie L. Kilgore.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Cantrell Tucker Kilgore of Alexandria,
a daughter and son-in-law Paula and Steve Nunley of Chattanooga, a sister
and bother-in-law Virginia and Bill Workman, of Chattanooga, two sisters-in-law,
Ruth Kilgore of Jasper, TN and Dorothy Kilgore of Chattanooga. He is also
survived by a special teddy bear, Pugs.

Frances Ruth Ferrell Braswell
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Frances Ruth Ferrell Braswell,
88, on Saturday, December 15, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel
in Smithville. Dr. William Fox and Brother Don Davidson officiated with
burial in the DeKalb Memorial Gardens. She died Thursday, December 13,
2001, at Baptist DeKalb Hospital of an extended illness.
Mrs. Ferrell was a graduate of Dibrell High School, a retired employee
of the Smithville Post Office and was a member of the First Baptist Church
in Smithville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John E. and Dovie May Lassiter
Ferrell, three sisters, Dorothy and Lucile Ferrell and Clara Belle Hutchings
and two brothers, Aubrey and J.E. Ferrell.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wilburn C. Braswell, a
son and daughter-in-law, W.C. and Gingie Hobson Braswell, three grandchildren,
John and Heath Braswell and Holly Braswell Hendrix and her husband Phillip
Hendrix, and two great-grandchildren, Victoria Anne Cantrell and Holden
Hendrix. She is also survived by a sister, Billie Ferrell Haley of the
Dibrell community, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Maurice and Elsie
Braswell of Smithville, four sisters-in-law, Cornelia Braswell, Gladys
Braswell, and Dawn Braswell, all of Smithville, Vivian Ferrell of McMinnville,
and by many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held for Daymon Nicholas Trapp, infant
son of Darryl and Janet Trapp, on Thursday, December 13, 2001 at 4:00 p.m.

the Jefferson Community. He died on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at River
Park Hospital in Warren County.
He is survived by his parents, Darryl and Janet Trapp and by his sister,
Jayrah Trapp, all of Dowelltown. He is also survived by grandparents, Boyd
and Linda Trapp, E.J. and Hazel Roberts, and great-grandmother, Ethel Chapman,

Funeral services were held for Jo Ann Franks, 67, on Sunday,

died suddenly on Thursday, February 7, 2002 at her home.
A resident of Smithville, Ms. Franks was a homemaker and was affiliated
with the Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell B. Franks, her parents,
Joe and Alice J. Whitehead Rittenberry and by a sister, Ruth Dickens.
She is survived by a daughter, Patsy Ann Bunt of Mt. Juliet, two sons,
Albert Lee Overstreet of Woodbury and Jackie Allison Overstreet of Alexandria,
two brothers, Gerald Rittenberry of Alexandria and Aaron Rittenberry of
Lebanon and two sisters, Sybil Binkley and Rosie Durham, both of Lebanon.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

officiated with interment in the DeKalb Memorial Gardens. She died on Saturday,
February 2, 2002 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.
Ms. Miller was a resident of Maple Court Village in Fairview, Tennessee
and was a retired secretary with Titanium Metals Corporation. She had worked
with the Justin Potter Library in years past and was an artist. She was
affiliated with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Walters and James (Red)
Miller and by her parents, Samuel and Ethel Higgenbottom Allen.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Brent
Burkett of Fairview, a step-daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Roger
Poe of Ohio and a step-son, Ted Miller of Pennsylvania. She is also survived
by four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces.

Funeral services were held for Bessie Mai Fitts, 82, on Monday,
February 11, 2002 at the Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria. Brother Dewey
Dyer officiated with interment in the New Hope Cemetery. She died on Saturday,
February 9, 2002 at Alive Hospice in Nashville.
Ms. Fitts, a resident and native of Alexandria, was born on October
2, 1919 to parents Mova Malone and Oliver Lige Parkerson. She was retired
from the Work Wear Corporation and was a member of Malone's Baptist Church
in Alexandria.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Homer Fitts, a sister, Isabell Parkerson Stephens and three brothers, Toy,
Elbert and M.B. Parkerson.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Frank Clark
of McMinnville, a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Suzanne and Dick Martin
of Murfreesboro, a grandson, Frank R. Clark, IV of Key West, Florida and
two great-grandsons, Rick and Clark Martin, both of Murfreesboro. She is
also survived by two sisters, Sallie Parkerson and Ruby Parkerson, both
of Murfreesboro, three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Wilma Parkerson
of Smithville, Dillard and Jeanette Parkerson of Lebanon and John and Ruth
Reynolds of Alexandria and three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Parkerson, Sherry

96, on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. the West Main Baptist Church

30, 2002 at NHC Health Care in Smithville.
Mr. McMillen was born in DeKalb County on December 15, 1905 to parents
Tobe McMillen and Alta Neal McMillen. He was a farmer and was affiliated
with the West Main Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by wives, Leona Robinson McMillen and Maibell
Jennings McMillen and a grandson, Kenneth McMillen.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ruby and Lutrell Paris
of Watertown, three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Betty McMillen,
Victor and Debbie McMillen and T.C. and Sue McMillen, all of Alexandria,
12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and nine great great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by two sisters, Betty Harbin of Nashville and Viola
Stoner of Watertown, two brothers, Thomas McMillen of Murfreesboro and
Sam McMillen of Donelson and by a special friend, Jessie Bell Edwards of
Smithville.

Health Care Center.
A resident of South Carthage, Mrs. Blackburn was a homemaker and a
member of the Brush Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Ocie Ulas Blackburn and
Ruben Blackburn, three sons, Glenn Curtis Blackburn, Shelah Edward Blackburn
and Donnie Blackburn, a great-granddaughter, Susan Blackburn, her parents,
Dora King and John Franklin Edwards and by four brothers and three sisters,
Dewey, Walter, George and Roswell Edwards, Emma Blackburn, Mary Wilson
and Mattie Floyd Edwards.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and L.B. Martin

many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess L. Robinson, her parents,
James and Kallie Jackson Looney, a daughter, Shirley Foutch, a son-in-law,
Waylon Foutch, sisters, Pauline Billings, Auda Maynard, Bill Demple Maynard,
Sally Cantrell, Edith Cantrell and a great grandson, Christopher Herron.
She is survived by a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Ricky and Barbara

A resident of Lancaster, Mrs. Croslin was born in the Lancaster Community

James Bennett Croslin and by a son, George Bart Croslin.

A resident of Alexandria, Mr. Moore was a retired railroad worker,
a W.W.II Army Veteran and attended Grace Bible Church.

Moore and by a brother, Willie Carr Moore.
He is survived by his daughter, Carrie Beatrice Williams of St. Louis,
Missouri, his son, Cordell Dowell of Cookeville, seven grandchildren and
several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Carrie

A resident of Alexandria, Mrs. Smith was born in the Temperance Hall
Community to parents Ocia Putty and James Luther McBride on September 3,
1919. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Robert Johnson Smith and by two brothers and two sisters, Amon McBride,
Jim McBride, Audra Grisham and Edna McBride.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Jerry Cripps

Funeral services were held for Winford Lee Judkins, 78, on Monday, February
17, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at the Love-Cantrell Chapel in Smithville. Elder

the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home in Michigan on February 19, 2003 at 2:00
p.m. with interment in the Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock, Michigan.
He died on Sunday, February 16, 2003 at the Baptist DeKalb Hospital.
A resident of Smithville, Mr. Judkins was a retired Teamster of Local
299, a WW II veteran, had been employed by J & A Services in Michigan
and was affiliated with the Woodland Assembly of God in Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Josie Vanhoouser
Judkins, his mother, Cleo Caldwell Turner Judkins, a sister, Mary Judkins
Worcester and by five brothers, James, Grady and Chris Judkins, Kelley
Turner and Harrison Spurlock.
He is survived by his wife, Angeline Judkins of Smithville, five sons,
Randall, Wendell and Steven Judkins of Warren, Michigan, Michael Judkins
of Wisconsin and Tom Smathers of Riverview, Michigan, 2 daughters, Alma
Cogdill of Hohenwald, Tennessee and Marlene Landini of Taylor, Michigan
and by 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived
by one brother, H. J. Judkins of Smithville, three sisters, Audrey Jones
of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Claudine Thurman of Glendale, Arizona and Gerthy
Anderson of Elyria, Ohio and by a special niece, Glenda Judkins Barnes
of Smithville.

Jewel B. Turner
Funeral services were held for Jewel B. Turner, 79, on Saturday, February
22, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Brother Bryan Jones
and Brother Garry McBride officiated with interment in the DeKalb Memorial
Gardens. He died on Thursday, February 20, 2003 at his residence of an
extended illness.
A resident of Smithville, Mr. Turner was a retired construction worker
and was affiliated with the Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donnie Turner, his parents, William
Turner and Mattie Lee Driver, two sisters, Ella Dean Cantrell and Mable
Jones and by three brothers, Loring Turner, Edward Turner and W. M. Turner.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva Turner of Smithville, two daughters
and sons-in law, Patsy and Jerry and McGuire and Peggy and Lewis Cantrell,
two sons and daughters-in-law, Rickie and Tammy Turner, all of Smithville,
seven grandchildren, Michelle Jones, Angela Neal, Reece Cantrell, Scott
Turner, Shane Turner, Tad Turner and Tia Turner and 12 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by two sisters, Bertie Ruth Reeder of Smithville and
Mai Bell James of Nashville.
Pallbearers were Shane Turner, Scott Turner, Tad Turner, Reece Cantrell,
Forest Reeder, Kevin Webb and Webb Jefferies.

Estelle Sykes Stribling
Graveside services will be held for Estelle Sykes Stribling, 82, on
Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Richlawn Cemetery in
Waverly, Tennessee. She died on Sunday, February 23, 2003 at her residence.
A resident of Waverly, Tennessee, Mrs. Stribling was a retired dental
assistant was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church. She was
born on August 12, 1921 in New Johnsonville, Tennessee to parents Murry
Sykes and Bruce Moore.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Jesse V. Stribling and by a granddaughter, Jami Ann Dreaden.
She is survived by five sons and two daughters-in-law, Noel and Mildred
Stribling of Henderson, Kentucky, Vicky and J. V. Stribling, Jr. of Waverly,
Tennessee, Murry Stribling of Linden, Tennessee and Leon Stribling and
Tim Stribling, both of Smithville and by two daughters and one son-in-law,
Sally Dreaden of Smithville and Susan and Dennis Jamison of Reston, Virginia.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren and by eight great grandchildren.

Tressa A. Cantrell Young
Funeral services were held for Tressa A. Cantrell Young, 93, on Monday,
May 19, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville. Brother
Bransford England and Brother Eddie Cantrell officiated with interment
in the Keltonburg Cemetery. She died on Saturday, May 17, 2003 at NHC HealthCare
Center in McMinnville.
A resident of Smithville, Mrs. Young was a homemaker and was affiliated
with the New Union Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy P. and Sarah Annie Lappim
Cantrell and by three brothers, Lee H., Cleaburn and Hugh Cantrell.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon R. Young of Smithville, a sister
and brother-in-law, Helen and Herman Roller of Rock Island, a brother and
sister-in-law, Atwood and Eula Cantrell of Smithville and by her sister-in-law,
Ruby Cantrell of Smithville. She is also survived by several nieces and
nephews.
Pallbearers were Roger Cantrell, Wayne Cantrell, Danny Roller, George
Hatcher, Cale Carver and Chad Patton.

Margaret Preston Gilley
Funeral services were held for Margaret Preston Gilley, 81, on Monday,
May 12, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville.
Brother Royce Martin officiated with interment in the Bethel Cemetery.
She died on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
A resident of Smithville, Mrs. Gilley was a merchant, a charter member
of the Short Mountain Eastern Star and was affiliated with the United Methodist
Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Gilley and by her
parents, Hervey and Verna Preston.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jean Ann and Clifford
Knudson of McMinnville, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rickey and Dorothy
Gilley of Morrison and Flint Gilley of Smithville and by eight grandchildren
and five great grandchildren.
She is also survived by two brothers, James Preston of Woodbury and
Harry Preston of Crossville.

Gilley, David Preston, Terry Preston and Gabrel Knudson.

Lois Jean Hamilton
Funeral services were held for Lois Jean Hamilton, 60, on Tuesday, May
13, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Love-Cantrell Chapel in Smithville. Pastor
Dennis Clark officiated with interment in the West Cemetery in Cookeville.
She died on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Baptist DeKalb Hospital.
A resident of Smithville, Mrs. Hamilton was the former owner of Lois's
Daycare and was a Seventh Day Adventist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas B. Hamilton, her parents,
Charles Buck and Mina Bell Hale Page and by her sister, Martha Sue Page.
She is survived by her husband, Connie Kennedy, a son and daughter-in-law,
Victor and LaVonna Hamilton, all of Smithville, a daughter and son-in-law,
Norma Jean Burleson and Mike Sullivan of California, two stepdaughters,
Anna Howard of Cookeville and Rebecca Whitson of Sparta and by six grandchildren,
six step grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is also survived by
three brothers, Donald Page of Antioch, Robert Page of Smithville and Jerry
Page of McMinnville and by four sisters, Faye Wicks of Cookeville and Carol
Miller, Judy Bullard and Kathy Cantrell, all of Smithville.

John Robert Byford
Funeral services were held for John Robert Byford, 82, on Saturday,
May 17, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville.
Brother Lawrence Puckett officiated with interment in the DeKalb Memorial
Gardens. He died on Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at Stones River Hospital in
Woodbury.
A resident of Woodbury, Mr. Byford was retired from Ford Motor Company
and the U. A. W. and was a member of the Open Bible Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Sue Davis and by his
parents, George and Callie Keaton Byford.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Byford of Woodbury, seven children,
Paul Byford, Linda Judkins and Deann Adams, all of Smithville, J. C. Byford,
Eva Montgomery and George Lee Byford, all of Dowelltown and John and Randy
Byford of Wisconsin and by 18 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and
one great great grandchild. He is also survived by two sisters, Vernie
Comfort and Georgia Owens, both of Smithville and by two brothers, James
Byford of Kingsport and Owen Byford of Woodbury and by several nieces and
nephews.

Gipson, Jr. Osment and Phillip Byford.

John Larry Frazier
Funeral services were held for John Larry Frazier, 62, on May 17, 2003
at 2:30 p.m. at the Dry Creek Baptist Church in Dowelltown. Brother Donald
Owens officiated with burial in the Frazier Family Cemetery. He died on
Wednesday, May 14, 2003.
A resident of Huntsville, Alabama, Mr. Frazier was a skilled NASA engineer
for 38 years, an experienced cattleman, an enthusiastic gardener and music
lover.
He was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Wilson Frazier and
by a brother, Ronnie Frazier.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Ann Frazier of Huntsville, his daughter
and son-in-law, Barbara G. Frazier and Todd Nuckels of Florance, Alabama,
two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruno and Geri Frazier of Smyrna, Georgia
and Henry and Natalie Frazier of Huntsville and by eight grandchildren,
Jonathan, Rebecca, Jacob, Andrew, Ryan, Sean, Christopher and William.
He is also survived by his mother, Louise Keyt Frazier of Dowelltown and
by five siblings, Judy Kimbrell, Peggy Thomas, Debra Fuson, Kathy Hendrix
and Lisa Cripps.
Pallbearers were Josh Thomas, Jeff Fuson, Jared Hendrix, Matthew Cripps,
Justin Cripps, Jordan Cripps, Jonathan Frazier and Jacob Frazier.
Nolan Turner, Jimmy Womack, Kenny Edge, Teddy Edge, Bobby Joins, Bob
Earl Fuston, Gary Mullican, Jack Frazier, Kenneth Tramel, Richard Frazier,
