Ann Strang passed away on Monday, May 13, 2002, at the McKenna Memorial
Hospital at the age of 91 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Hafer and husband Jim; five
sons; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister; one brother
and two sisters-in-law. Mrs. Strang was preceded in death by her husband,
William Nelson Strang, in 1987 and by one son.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Zoeller Funeral Home
and will continue until service time Friday. Services will be Friday at
10 a.m. at Zoeller Funeral Home with interment to follow in the Guadalupe
Valley Memorial Park.

Emily Villarreal went to be with the Lord Monday, May 13, 2002, at
the McKenna Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family at the age of 55
years. She will be greatly missed but will forever be close to our hearts.
Mrs. Villarreal’s pride and joy was her son, Mando Pete and she enjoyed
helping to raise her nieces and nephews.

wife Gloria of New Braunfels and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Villarreal
was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Basilia Castilleja Alvarado;
one brother, Manuel Garcia and one sister Maria Velasquez.
Visitation began at noon Tuesday at the Zoeller Funeral Home and continues
until at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. A rosary was recited on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
at the Zoeller Funeral Home. A procession will depart the funeral home
on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. mass at the Sts. Peter and Paul
Catholic Church with interment to follow in the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic
Cemetery.

Dorothy Diashyn Higgins, age 83, of New Braunfels, passed away, Thursday,
May 16, 2002, in San Antonio. Mrs. Higgins was born August 3, 1918 to Harry
Diachyshyn and Henrietta Humeniuk Diachyshyn in Norwich, CT. She married
Frank Henry Higgins on October 7, 1941 in Washington D.C. She was a member
of the Catholic Faith and also owned and operated several antique stores.
She truly enjoyed all of her friends and associates. She is survived by
her husband, Frank Higgins of New Braunfels; Son, Mike Higgins and wife
Alice of Houston, TX; Grandchildren, Shannon McIntush and husband Ken of
Austin, TX, Kevan Higgins of Dallas, TX., and Brian Higgins of Dallas,
TX.; Great- grandchildren, Dorothy McIntush and Gloria McIntush; Niece,
Paula Butler of Berlin, Maryland; Nephew, Mark Diashyn of San Carlos, CA;
She was preceded in death by an infant child, Paul Higgins.

Roma Bernice Silvers, age 81, of New Braunfels, Passed away, Thursday,
May 16, 2002, at Kirkwood Manor. She was born August 13, 1920 to Carl Guenther

Peggy Hanover of New Braunfels, son, David Silvers and wife Mary of Canyon

Carl L. Marion, 86, of New Braunfels, passed away on Sunday, May 19,
2002 at McKenna Memorial Hospital Inc.
Mr. Marion was born on February 8, 1916 in New Braunfels, Texas to
Charles Marion and Emma (Brumme) Marion. He married Pearl (Laux) Marion
on May 23, 1937 in New Braunfels. He was a firefighter for the Civil Service
at Kelly Air Force Base at San Antonio and Chase Field at Beeville.
Mr. Marion was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge #1109 A.F. & A.M.,
50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star #771, member of the Mission
Valley Bowling Club. Mr. Marion was preceded in death by his brothers and
one sister: Milton Marion and wife Pauline, Herbert Marion, John Marion
and Lillian Denmark. He is survived by wife, Pearl A. Marion of New Braunfels;
daughter Sharon Terry and husband Jay W. of Boerne; 2 grandchildren, Morgan
Terry of Torrance, California, Michael Terry and wife Marge of Phoenix,
Arizona. Special family friends include, Milton and Marie Long of New Braunfels.

Mrs. Rowe was born on July 31, 1926 to Walter and Aletha Thorpe. She

Mrs. Rowe was a member of the New Braunfels chapter of Daughters of
the Nile and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Rowe was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed
by everyone who knew her.

Thorpe.

Thelma Doeppenschmidt Ethridge, 82, passed away at her Houston home,
on Saturday evening, May 25, 2002, after a hard fought battle against leukemia.
Thelma is survived by her daughters: Lynn Norvell, and husband Bill Norvell;
Debbie Elliott and husband Ray Elliott; by grandson Michael Norvell; granddaughters,
Traci Norvell; Sara Elliott, and fiancee, Shawn McGregor; and Paige Elliott,
all of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother Emma Krause;
her father, Charles Doeppenschmidt; her brother, Lawrence Doeppenschmidt;
and her husband, James F. Ethridge.
Thelma was born on July 25, 1919, in New Braunfels, Texas. Thelma was
a vibrant, loving woman who had many friends and knew how to be a friend.
She loved to play cards, travel and enjoy good times with her family and
friends at her home on the Comal River. Interment will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday,
May 29, 2002 at Comal County Cemetery, New Braunfels. In lieu of flowers
the family requests donations be made to the Dr. Francis Giles Leukemia
Research Fund, M.D. Anderson Hospital, 1515 Holcombe, Houston, Texas, 77030,

her parents, Henry and Ida Bertram; brother Edward Bertram; sisters Erma

16, 2002, in New Braunfels, Texas. She was born June 15, 1921, in New Braunfels
to Edmund and Clara (Luersen) Twiefel. She married Raymond O. Haas on March
1, 1946, in New Braunfels. She was a member of First Protestant Church
in New Braunfels, the New Braunfels Art League, Sophienburg Archives and
V.F.W. Post 7110 Auxilary. She was preceded in death by her parents, her
husband Raymond O. Haas on April 9, 2002, and by three sisters: Ella and
Helen Twiefel and Clara Pfannstiel. Survivors include her two sons: John
Haas and wife, Maureen of New Braunfels, and Joe Haas and wife , Ruth of
Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren: Krista, Matthew, Elizabeth and Andrew; and
one sister, Alice Rehfeld of New Braunfels.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 20, 2002, at 10 a.m. at
Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels with the Rev. Richard Carse

Edward “Mac” McPhee of Canyon Lake, Texas, passed away Tuesday, June
18, 2002, at McKenna Memorial Hospital Inc., New Braunfels, Texas at the
age of 72.
Mr. McPhee was born June 20, 1929, to John and Effie (Green) McPhee
in Twin Rocks, Pa. He married Louise “Mollie” McVay on December 20, 1968,
in Anchorage, Alaska. He served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War
in the U. S. Air Force. He worked for the Special Security Division in
the U.S. Air Force for 24 years. He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran
Church at Canyon Lake and also a member of the VFW Post 8800 at Startzville,
American Legion Post 1 at Anchorage, Alaska, coordinated the 4th of July
parade at Canyon Lake.
He is survived by his wife, Mollie McPhee, of Canyon Lake; son, James
McPhee and wife, Patricia of Marine City, Mich.; step-daughter, Darwina
Gayton and husband Juan of Gonzales; sisters, Martha Ellis of Canyon Lake
and Patty Kottlenicki of Sterling Heights, Michigan; grandchildren, Jimmy,
Jeff, Jennifer, Jude Darcy and Jamie.
Services will be held Friday, June 21, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Doeppenschmidt
Funeral Home at Canyon Lake. The Rev. Donald Ofsdahl will be officiating.

Marc Anthony Dean, age 38, of New Braunfels, Texas, died suddenly Wednesday,
June 19, 2002, in New Braunfels, Texas, He was born May 9, 1964, in Alamosa,
Colo. Marc was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was a resident of New Braunfels
for the past 10 years and an owner of an audio/video contracting company.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the Kingdom
Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1353 Wald Road, at 4:30 p.m. with John Chiaffredo

in the Road Department from 1959 to 1978. He was very active in the community;
a 50-year member of Germania Farmer Verein, Comal County Farm Bureau, charter
member of Spring Branch Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Past Master
of Blanco Masonic Lodge and a member of the Alzafar Shrine. He was a lifetime
member of the New Braunfels VFW Post 7110, Canyon Lake VFW 8800, Bulverde
Community Center, Spring Branch Bowling Club, Guadalupe River Association
and a proud member of the Mid-thirty’s Brackenridge High Alumni Association.
He is survived by Thelma, his wife of over 49 years; son, Guy, of Spring
