Julio Morales
Mr. Julio Morales, 86, of Lockhart, passed away Monday, March 26, 2001.
Recitation of the rosary was at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 28th in the Chapel of the DeLeon Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated at l0:00 a.m., Thursday, March 29th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father Adam Martinez officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Mr. Morales is survived by his daughters, Lydia Morales, Janie Hernandez, Mary Falcon, all of Lockhart; sons, Jesus Morales of Plainview, Pedro Morales, Sr., and wife, Elidia of Lockhart, Jimmy Alvarado, and wife, Ninfa of Midland, Joe Morales, and wife Lidia of Lockhart; 59 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandhcildren.
Serving as pallbeares were Epi Ramirez, Jr., Juan Aguirre, Jr., Joe Luis Morales, Pete Morales, Jr., Abraham Trevino, and Joe Ray Morales.
Services under the direction of Samuel DeLeon & Son/DeLeon Funeral Home, Lockhart.

Kenneth Dickinson
Mr. Kenneth Dickinson, 89, of Luling, formerly of Lockhart died May 9, 2001 in Luling. Mr. Dickinson was born September 17, 1911 in Spray, Oregon to John Henry and Maggie Mulkey Dickinson. He was united in marriage to Alma Pecavet in Pilot Rock, Oregon, December 14, l933.
Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m. May 10 at the Lockhart Cemetery with Sister Genivieve Ormand officiating. Interment followed in the Lockhart Cemetery.
Mr. Dickinson is survived by his beloved wife, Alma Dickinson of Luling. Daughter, Lois Moore of Dale. Sister Muriel Thies of Cottage Grove, Oregon. 2 grand-children, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Audrie Mae Edwards
Mrs. Audrie Mae Edwards, 92, of Dale died May 22, 2001 in the Chisholm Trail Living and Rehab Center in Lockhart. Mrs. Edwards was born June 21, 1908 in Enid, Oklahoma to Henry E. and Callie Hemphill Thompson. She was united in marriage to Albert Edwards in 1952 and he preceded her in death, as did two sisters, Savannah and Mary Elizabeth, three brothers, DeWitt, Henry and Elzie Thompson.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. May 26, 2001 at the Dale Corinth United Methodist Church with Superintendent C.H. McNeese officating.
Serving as pallbearers, were her nephews.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by her daughter, Raynell Edwards of Dale. Sister Ruth Arnold of Lockhart and sister-in-law, Esther Thompson of Lockhart. A host of other relatives also survive.

Vienna M. Turner
Vienna M. Turner, 85, of Bentonville, Arkansas, and formerly of Lockhart, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 in Bates Medical Center of Bentonville.
She was born February 22, 1916 in Jamestown, North Dakota to Abraham Toews, and Lena Voth Toews. Vienna was an accomplished seamstress, and enjoyed all types of needlework. She led congregational singing in numerous churches, and went on several missionary trips to Honduras. She worked for Andrews University for seven years, moved to Bentonville in 1998 from Lockhart and was a member of the Bentonville Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Glenn E. Turner, of the home, one son Joe A. Turner, of Fayetteville, N.C., three daughters; Carolyn J. Fox of Garfield, AK., Wanda M. Scarbrough of Buena Vista, CO., Anita E. Skoretz of Rome, GA; one brother Dan Toews, of Shafter, CA., two sisters: Martha Gonzales of Bakersfield, CA., Hattie Williams of Bakersfield, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Russell R. Turner in 1939; two sisters and one brother.
A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2001, in the Bentonville Seventh Day Adventist Church with Elder Charles Dart, Pastor Richard Hall and Elder Edward Skoretz officiating. A memorial graveside committal service will be 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001 in Ruddick Cemetery, near Garfield, AK.

Imogene Franks Taylor
Imogene Franks Taylor, age 79, of McMahan died Wednesday, May 30, 2001. She was born in McMahan, Texas on July 1, l921, the daughter of Arthur and Nona Jackson Franks.
She was a member of the McMahan Baptist Church. He husband, Howard Taylor passed away on August 5, 1997.
Survivors include her brothers, Harold Franks and wife, Helen of McMahan and Vores Fanks and wife, Thelma of Beeville; one sister, Nelda E. Franks of Devine and other relatives. Graveside services were held, Saturday, June 2 at the Jeffrey Cemetery in McMahan. Those who wish to make donations to their favorite charity...

Dolores Hernandez
SRA. Dolores Hernandez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, resident of Martindale, went peacefully to be with our heavenly father on June 1, 2001 at the age of 81 yrs. The Hernandez family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Hillcrest Nursing Center for their kindness and care of our mother, Dolores.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years: Salbador hernandez of Luling; Sons: Raymond and wife Marcelina of Kyle; Salvador, Jr. and wife Lupe of Austin; Alfredo and wife Sofia of Martindale; San Juan of Martindale; and Elias of Luling. Daughters: Ermina H. Magallanez of Luling; Carmen Baltierra and husband Basilio of Austin, Celia H. Urrutia and husband Florentino of Lockhart; Elida H. DeLeon and husband Cristobol of Martindale; Dolores H. Alvarez of Luling; Delia H. Cardenas and husband Pete of San Antonio, Estella H. Martinez and husband Elmer of Lockhat, and Lucy H. Lloyd of Michigan. Sister: Andrea Chagolla of Austin. 31 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren.
Recitation of Rosary was Sunday, June 3rd at 7:30 p.m at Los Angeles Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial was Monday morning at l0:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Martindale with Rev. Dan Drinan officiating. Interment followed in San Isidro Cemetery in Fentress.

Dr. B. Harold Williams
Dr. B. Harold Williams, 87, of Annandale, VA., formerly of Lockhart, died June 15 at his home. Dr. Williams, born August 12, 1913 in McMahan , was raised in Lockhart, and was a graduate of Lockhart High School. He was the son of Lawrence and Sadie Garner Williams, formerly of S. Blanco St. in Lockhart. Although Dr. Williams resided in Virginia at the time of his death, he always considered Lockhart to be his home.
He received a BS from San Marcos Teacher College, a Massters from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Doctorate in Education from George Washington University.
Dr. Williams was married to Lora Pooley of Staples, Texas on July 28, 1934. He was the principal of Prairie Lea High School and Kennedy High School in the 1930’s. He served in the Navy during World War II and retired as Lieutenant Commander from the Naval Reserve in 1971. He moved to Washington, D.C. in 1946 where he worked for the Federal Government until retiring in 1976.
He is survived by his wife, Lora Pooley Williams; his children Patricia Joe Edwards, Robert O Neal and James Lawrence Williams; four grandchildren; his brother, Royce Williams and his sister Mary Williams, both currently residing in Point Blank, Texas.
Funeral services were held June 15 at the First Baptist Church of Annandale, Virginia. Burial was at Arlington National Cemetery on July 19. Donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements by Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield, VA.

Herbert Edward Seidel Jr.
Herbert Edward Seidel, Jr., age 41, of Rosanky died, Saturday, July 7, 2001. He was born May 14, 1960 in Bastrop to Lindell Zimmerhanzel and Herbert F. Seidel, Sr.
Seidel graduated from Bastrop High School and attended A&M Univeristy. He was in the U.S. Navy and will receive military honors by the Smithville Honor Guard at Graveside. He was employed by Applied Material-Production Dept.
He is survived by son: Michael Edward Seidel of Lockhart, Daughters: Michelle Seidel and Sabrina Seidel of Lockhart; Parents: Herbert E. and Lindell Seidel, Sr. of Red Rock, and Sister: Deborah and husband Paul Shirocky of Smithville. Visitation was held, Monday, July 9. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with interment following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in String Prairie.

Lois W. Drumm
Lois W. Drumm passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2001 at the age of 96. She was born on March 5, 1905 in Floresville, Texas to Clarence and Francis Wallace Nobles. She was married to Howard Drumm on December 20, 1924 in Martindale.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Drumm and three brothers.
Survivors include her daughters: June Florence and her husband Ted of Twin Falls, Idaho; Jean Weber and her husband Adolph of Lockhart;; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters: Letress Kaplan of Los Angeles, California and Lorence Flournoy of New Caney, Texas.
Service were held at McCurdy Funeral Home Chapel in Lockhart on Saturday, July 7th with Pastor Joel Densman of the Prairie Lea Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.
Pallbearers were Doug Weber, Leroy Pennington, Mark E. Weber, A.W. McCrary, Pete Beyer, and Bill F. Forester.

Collis Glenn “Big Jim” Hellums
Collis Glenn “Big Jim” Hellums, 86, of Lockhart died July 7, 2001 in the Seton E.B. Davis Memorial Hospital in Luling. Mr. Hellums was born January 10, 1915 in McMahan to James and Carrie Alexander Hellums. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Lucille Ellison, April 9, 1953 in McMahan.
Mr. Hellums was preceded in death by his wife and his daughter, Nancy Montero. Graveside services were held at ll a.m. July 10, in the Lockhart Cemetery with Rev. Roemer Hudler officiating. Interment followed in the Lockhart Cemetery.
Mr. Hellums is survived by his daughters, Dorothy Hellums of Lockhart and Jeanne Calaway of Nederland. Brother, Howard Hellums of McMahan. Grandchildren, Glenn Montero, Jennifer Calaway and Jarret Calaway. Arrangements with Eeds Funeral Home.

Geraldine “Jerry” Roberts Turley
Geraldine “Jerry” Roberts Turley, age 78, of Austin, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2001.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Frank Buford
Roberts in 1966 and S.A. “Bill” Turley in 1989.
She retired from the Villa Capri Hotel, where she was employed for 21 years as Sales and Marketing Director. She had been employed 1955-1966 as a chief clerk with the City of Lockhart.
She is survived by her two sons: Ross Roberts and wife Carol; Tommy D. Roberts and wife Kay; two daughters: Tracy Crow and husband Carl; Dana Clark and husband Steven; two grandchildren: Caitlynn and Cody Crow; also a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, July 14, 2001 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Kevin Westergren officiating. Interment followed at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery.

Walter C. Handley Sr.
Walter C. Handley, Sr., age 47, of Lytton Springs, Texas died Friday, July 13, 2001. He was born in Dumas, Arkansas on August 12, 1951. The son of Paul Handley, Sr. and Namona James Handley.
He married Mary Pearson on July 16, 1971 in Gould, Arkansas.
Surviors include wife, Mary Pearson Handley of Lytton Springs; Sons, Walter C.Handley, Jr. of San Marcos, John Handley of Lytton Springs; Daughter, Misty Dyer of Lytton Springs; Brothers, Paul Handley of Houston, Jeffery Handley of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Grandchildren, Candace Handley, Sierra Handley, Trey Handley, Alan Dyer III, and Alexis Dyer.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at McCurdy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Cheatham officiating. Burial followed at Lytton Springs Cemetery near Lytton Springs.

Jacob William Scribner
Our little angel Jacob William Scribner blessed us with his presence for a short while on October 9, 2001 before going back to the arms of his Heavenly Father.
Jacob is survived by his parents Charles and Robin Scribner of Schertz; grandparents Robert and Wilma Simon of Martindale; Bill and Becky Scribner of Forney, TX.; great-grandmother Odessa Scribner of Dallas; aunts; uncles; cousins and many friends.
Funeral services were Friday, October 12, 2001 at the Martindale Baptist Church with Rev. Howe officiating. Burial at Memory Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Emmitt Edwin Fehlis
Mr. Emmitt Edwin Fehlis, 81, of Lockhart, passed away on October 13, 2001 at The Arboretum in San Marcos. He was born March 24, 1920 in Maxwell and was the son of Walter T. and Thekla Boenig Fehlis. Mr. Fehlis was united in Holy Matrimony to Verona Germer on September 13, 1944 in Santa Ana, California. Mr. Fehlis was a member of Lockhart V.F.W. Post 8927, a 53 year member of the H.T. Rainey Post 41 of the American Legion, and a 60 year member of the Herman Sons Lodge. Funeral services were held October 17th at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Maxwell, with Pastor Malcom Hoffman and Pastor Eddie Humphrey officiating. Interment followed at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale. Serving as pallbearers were: Gary Allen; Kerry Fehlis; Thad Fehlis; Kurt Fehlis; David Fehlis; and Bob Beims. Mr. Fehlis is survived by his wife, Verona Fehlis of Lockhart. Son, Donald Fehlis and wife Linda Lindsey of Austin. Brothers, Baldwin Fehlis and wife Betty of San Antonio; and Harold Fehlis of Plano. Grandaughter, Kelly Fehlis and husband Eddie Humphrey of Temple. Grandsons, Thad Fehlis and Kurt Fehlis of Austin. Great-granddaughter, Taylor Humphrey of Temple. Sisters-in-law, Leona Best of Maxwell; Gerry Fehlis of Lockhart; Emily Fehlis of Leakey; and Bernice Germer of Plano. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews also survive. Mr. John Wayne Roberts
Mr. John Wayne Roberts, 57, of Osage, Kansas died October 9, 2001 in Osage. Mr. Roberts was born January 26, 1944 in Niederwald to John William and Loma Adele Jowers Roberts. He was united in marriage to Barbara Castle on December 2, 1978 in Austin. He lived most of his life around the Lockhart area, before moving to Osage, Kansas in 1995. He was Asst. Mgr./Salesman for GCR Firestone in Topeka, Kansas. He had been a member of the Texas National Guard, and was a member of the Osage City Baptist Temple. Funeral services were October 11, 2001 at the Osage Baptist Temple with Rev. Joel Crippen officiating. Graveside services were held October 13, at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale. Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Barbara Roberts of Osage. Sons: Jeremy Roberts of Osage; Brian DeMarco of Austin; and Scott DeMarco of Tyler. Daughter, Tracy Forister of Cedar Park. 7 grandchildren also survive. Arrangements with Eeds Funeral Home.

Josie Francis Barnett
Josie Francis Barnett, age 77, of Houston died Saturday, October 13, 2001. She was born on October 16, 1923 in Lockhart, the daughter of Thomas DeWitt and Josie Francis Gambrell.
She attended Sweetbriar College in Virginia; graduated from the University of Texas with a BA degree. She was married to Frank D. Barnett for 52 years. She was preceded in death by a son, William Barnett and a sister, Nell Hilgers. Survivors include her husband Frank D. Barnett of Houston; son, Tom Barnett of New Braumfels; grandchildren, Leslie McDonald of Phoenix; Nina Barnett of College Station; Will Barnett of Austin; and great-grandson Jason Barnett.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at Lockhart City Cemetery with Rev. Tom Bruns officiating. Burial at Lockhart City Cemetery.
