Domingo P. Castillo
After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Domingo P. Castillo
joined our heavenly Father on Friday, July 28, 2000, at the age of 50.
Waiting to welcome him home with our Father in heaven will be his parents,
Vicente and Maria Dolores Castillo.
Domingo is survived by his wife, Jane Castillo of Austin; his daughters,
Celeste Castillo-Barron with husband Tommy; granddaughter, Lyndsey and
soon to join us Tomas Barron Jr. of Lockhart, Felicia Cancino and husband
Augustin, Celena Mayo and grandchildren, Natalie and Amber of Austin; Sons,
Sergio Mayo, Philip Mayo and wife, Teresa, and grandchildren, Phil and
Kierstin all of Austin.
Domingo is also survived by sisters Janie Cortez, Hortencia Capello,
Maria Guadalupe Castillo, Sylvia Castillo, Rosalinda Ramirez, Rebecca Castillo,
all of Lockhart. Leonor Kromis of Ann Arbor, Michigan; brothers, Pedro
Castillo, Rudy Castillo, Albert Castillo, David Castillo, Vicente Castillo,
and Joe James Castillo, all of Lockhart, and Edward Castillo of Austin.
Domingo was loved dearly and will be missed greatly.
Jesse Flores
Mr. Jesse Flores, 21, of Lockhart, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2000.
Rosary was at 8 pm, Monday, July 31, in the Chapel of the DeLeon Funeral
Home.
Funeral Mass was at 10 am, Tuesday, August 1, at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Mr. Flores is survived by his father, Antonio Flores, step-mother,
Hattie Flores, both of Lockhart; sister, Lisa Mendoza of Dale; nephews,
J.R. and A.J; grandmother, Ramona Mendoza of Lockhart; grandfather, Antonio
Flores Sr., of Austin; aunts and uncles, Mario and Gloria Flores, David

Viola Erna Halliburton
Viola Erna Halliburton, age 83, of Lockhart, died Thursday, August
3, 2000. She was born in Kingsbury, Texas on February 5, 1917, the daughter
of August and Bertha Schuchardt Engelke. She was a member of the Lutheran
Church. She worked many years as a waitress for various cafes. She finished
her career as a Nurses Aide at the Golden Age Nursing Home. She married
Larkin Monroe Halliburton on March 14, 1962 in Lockhart. He preceded her
in death on May 21, 1999.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Ferdy Engelke
and an infant sister.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth Ewald and wife, Pam of Lockhart;
Daughter, Barbara Buckner and husband, Danny of Lockhart; Brothers, Milton
Engelke and Preston Engelke both of Seguin; Grandchildren, Courtney Marie
Ewald Cardosa and Tammy Buckner; and Good Friend and Companion, Elaine
Rader; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 5, at McCurdy Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. George Goodman officiating. Burial followed at Memory
Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.

Clara C. Hastings
Clara C. Hastings, age 78, of Lockhart died July 31, 2000. Mrs. Hastings
was born September 11, 1920 in Waxahachie, Texas to Nathan and Annie Flemings
Davis.
Funeral services were held at 11 am August 5, at St. John’s United
Baptist Church with Rev. J.E. Morris, Jr. officiating. Interment followed
in Hooks Cemetery.
Mrs. Hastings is survived by her sisters, Esther Jean Branch of Lockhart,
Annette Duke of Evanston, Illinois, and Cordelia Miller of Richmond, Virginia;
Granddaughter, Charity Darden of Corpus Christi.

Clarence Albert Pritchard
Clarence Albert Pritchard, 91, of Granbury, formerly of Dale, died
August 4, 2000. Mr. Pritchard was born December 8, 1908 in Brownwood, Texas
to George W. and Mary Lucinda Trammel Pritchard. He was united in marriage
to Mary Alice Barber, September 1, 1933 in Dale. Mr. Pritchard was a retired
carpenter and a member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm August 9 in the chapel of the Eeds
Funeral Home with Bro. Bob Hailey officiating. Interment followed in the
Liberty Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were, Billy Tyler, Michael Pritchard, Patrick
Pritchard, Timothy Pritchard, Terry Pritchard, and Shawn Pritchard.
Mr. Pritchard is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Pritchard of Granbury;
sons and their wives, Louis Odell and Ursula Pritchard of Granbury, Donnie
Clint and Kay Pritchard of Scurry, Texas, and Douglas Lynn and Vivien Pritchard
of Union Center, South Dakota; Step-brothers, Estelle Lackey Jr. of Washington
State, and Lawrence Lackey of Luling.
He was affectionately known as “Pop” to his five grandchildren and
their spouses, Michael and Tiffany Pritchard, Patrick and Janice Pritchard,
Timothy and Estella Pritchard, Terry and Latrice Pritchard, and Shawn and
Gidget Pritchard all of the Dallas, Fort Worth area as well as his ten
great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and spouses, and seven step-great-grandchildren
and spouses.
Mr. Pritchard was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Vella
Pritchard Barber and Edna Lois Pritchard.

Wallie L. Riedel
Wallie L. Reidel, age 98, of Lockhart passed away on Thursday, August
3, 2000. Ms. Riedel was born September 9, 1901 to William Schutzeberg and
Alice (Wisian) Schutzeberg in Hays County.
She was united in marriage to Emil Riedel in Uhland, Texas on January
22, 1922, at which time they moved to Lockhart.
Wallie Riedel is survived by a daughter-in-law, Lorene Riedel; grandson,
Nile Riedel and wife Dana; great granddaughters, Loren Riedel and Kate
Riedel, all of New Braunfels; a sister-in-law, Cora Schutzeberg; numerous
nieces and nephews and dear friend, Dorothy Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sons Grafton
and Calvin, baby Riedel, two brothers, Alfred and Ludwig Schutzeberg and
a sister, Olga Kirchoff.
Mrs. Riedel had lived in Lockhart at her home, later moving to the
Greens Retirement Community in Lockhart where she lived for 14 years before
recently moving to the Golden Age Home. She was a member of St. Paul’s
United Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held at 3 pm on Saturday, August 5, at Eeds Funeral
with the Reverend Carolyn Rosenbaum officiating. Burial was at Lockhart
City Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Charles Kraft, Herbert Schwerdtfeger, Jerome
Schutzeberg, Roy Schutzeberg, Larry Schutzeberg, David Schutzeberg, Otto
Riedel Jr., and Nile Riedel.
The family thanks al of her caregivers for the love and care she received
the last few years, especially Josephine Ramirez who was there on a daily
basis. A special thanks also goes to the staff at the Golden Age Home and
to Hospice of Austin. Her family mourns her passing, but rejoices that
she led such a full and long life. Memorial contributions may be made to

- Preston “Bubba”Cheatham
Preston “Bubba” Cheatham, age 70, of Lytton Springs died Thursday,
October 12, 2000. He was born in Leesville, Texas on May 6, 1930, the son
of Isaac and Maydell Dinges Cheatham. He was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran
Church, Sheriff Association and Herford Association. He was in the US Army
and USMC during the Korean War in the Panama Canal Zone. He married Faye
Scholtz on June 16, 1957 in Ruterville. He was preceded in death by a son,
Lyle Cheatham in 1988.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Cheatham of Lytton Springs; daughter,
Donna Faye Rabe and husband, Glenn of Seguin; brothers and sisters; Dorothy
Weeks and husband Simeral of Premont, Clovis Cheatham and wife, Rella of
Giddings, Gladys Sexton of Luling, Clarence Cheatham and wife, Mary Ann
of Lockhart, Betty Jo Wagner and husband, Mike of Austin, Shirley Zimmerhanzel

Charlie Dean Pittman
Charlie Dean Pittman, 65, of Palacios, Texas died October 12, 2000
in Victoria, Texas. He was born December 11, 1934 in Lockhart, Texas to
the late Lenford C. and Lillie Mae Harris Pittman. Mr. Pittman was a resident
of Matagorda Co. the past 34 years, and a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include wife, Peggy Pittman of Palacios; daughters and son-in-law,
Peggy Jaunice “Sissy” and Brett Taylor of San Marcos, Karen Pittman of
Mt. Belvieu, Texas; sons and daughter-in-law, Charles Luther and Rhonda
Pittman of Pledger, Texas, Richard “Rick” Pittman of Baytown, Texas; brothers,
Austin and Lonnie Pittman both of Lockhart; seven grandchildren, Melissa,
Kristy and Richard Daugherty all of Baytown, Nicholas Pittman of Fairchild,
Kaci Taylor of San Marcos, Roxanne Pittman of Pledger and Trish of Las
Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his sister Lola Mae Reisinger.

Leopoldo Rios of San Marcos passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2000
at the age of 91.
Mr. Rios is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years Christina M. Rios;
sons, Marcos L. Rios and wife Lupe of Austin, and Javier Rios and wife
Kathy of Seguin; daughter, Amelia Marie Rios of San Marcos; four grandsons;
one great granddaughter; and three great grandsons; sisters, Zoila Arroyo
and husband Esteban of San Marcos and Hortencia Ramirez and husband Gonzalo
of Los Angeles, CA; brothers, Raymond Rios and wife Beatrice of San Marcos,
and Fidel Rios of Denton, Tx; several nieces and nephews.

pm in the Thomason Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held Friday,
October 13, at 10 am in the Thomason Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will

Joe Edward Anton, of Lockhart, Texas, passed away Sunday, December
10, 2000 at the age of 73. He was born August 19, 1927 to Edward Christian
and Frieda Ella (Barsch) Anton in Lockhart, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edith Dale Anton; a son, David
Anton and wife Carolyn of Austin, Tx; two granddaughters, Becky and Bonnie
Anton of Austin; a sister, Rosa Lee Powell of Luling; a brother-in-law,
Tommy Sanders and wife Beth of Mart; and nephew, Scott Sanders of Austin,
Tx.
Family was present for visitation, 6 - 8 pm, Tuesday, December 12,
at McCurdy Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 13, at McCurdy Chapel
with interment followed at the Luling City Cemetery. Reverend Gary Rodgers

Alvino Cardenas Sr.
Our beloved Alvino Cardenas Sr., age 74, of San Marcos, Texas was called
by our Savior to his eternal rest on December 10, 2000. He honored his
country by serving in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He is survived by sons, Victor Cardenas of Minnesota, Alvino Cardenas
Jr. of Germany; daughter, Gloria Cardenas of Minnesota; brothers, Albert
Cardenas of Hereford, Tx., Don Cardenas of Amarillo, Tx.; sisters, Mary
C. Vargas of San Marcos, Tx., Adela C. Fernandez, Lupe C. Soliz, both of
Lockhart, Tx.; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother,, Jesse Cardenas and sister,
Felicitas C. Nino.
Recitation of Rosary was held Monday, December 11, at 7:30 at Los Angeles
Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, at 12 noon, at
St. John’s Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Wozniack C.M.F. officiating.

Vera Mae Garrett
Vera Mae Garrett, 86, of Red Rock died December 5, 2000 in Luling.
Mrs. Garrett was born on May 8, 1914 in Galveston, Texas to Rachel Elizabeth
Finck Yanch and Edwin Henry Yanch. She was united in marriage to Dr. Edwin
E. Garrett in St. Louis, Missouri on December 17, 1945.
Gravesides services were held in Houston on December 7 by the George
Lewis Funeral Home. Interment was in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in
Houston. She is survived by her son Eddie Garrett and his wife Wyonda Garrett;
two grandsons, Jesse and Eddie (III) Garrett; and two nephews, Ronnie Callahan
and Danny Callahan.

Minerva Coopwood Lamb
Minerva Coopwood Lamb, of Austin, passed away Friday, December 8, 2000,
at the age of 96. She was born May 31, 1904 to William C. and Rosa (Blunt)
Coopwood in Lockhart, Texas. Mrs. Lamb is preceded in death by her husband,
Ray Lamb in 1990.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean Benson and Anne Lamb; three
grandchildren, Sandra Benson, Kay Arnold, and Carol Reed; two great-grandchildren,
Sarah Arnold and Andrew Arnold all of Austin, TX.
Services were held Monday, December 11, at McCurdy Funeral Home. A
private burial was followed at the Lockhart City Cemetery.

Robert Lee Ewald, age 62, of Lockhart died Monday, January 22, 2001.
He was born in Caldwell County, Texas on October 29, l938, the son of Eddie
and Lena Ehrlich Ewald. He married S. Ann Karnstetter on February l4, l963
in Lockhart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Walter Ewald and
Drue Ewald, sisters, Alma Sprouse and Amanda Vinson.
Survivors include his wife, S. Ann Ewald of Lockhart; daughters, Lisa
Ann Thompson and husband, Joe of Cedar Park, and Michelle Marie Ewald of
Lockhart; brothers, Bruno Ewald of Niederwald, Otto Ewald of Gonzales,
Alvin Ewald of Austin and Preston Ewald of Colorado Springs, Colorado;
sisters, Ida Petrosky of Lockhart and Della Barker of Georgetown.

Cemetery in Caldwell County, Texas with Deacon Bill Long officiating.

Alvin Joseph Wilhelm
“Red” to most, was the most giving and kind person you will ever meet.
When ever you needed him, he was always there to lend a helping hand.
Alvin served in the military and received a World War II Victory Ribbon,
a Good Conduct Medal, an American Theater Ribbon, A B.A.M.E. Theater Ribbon
and two Bronze Service Stars.
Alvin was born on Dec. 30th, l922 to the late Mr. & Mrs. Andy Wilhelm
of Rockne, Texas. He leaves to mourn: three brothers and one sister. Children:
Monty Shores of Corpus Christi, Texas, Ann Rose Wilhelm Brite of Lockhart
and Andy Justin Wilhelm of San Marcos, Texas., and a host of family and
friends.
Claudie Asberry Jr.
Claudie Asberry Jr., 53, of Lockhart died January 14, 2001 in the Audie
Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital in San Antonio. He was born January 8,
l948 in Lockhart to Claudie and Annie Doris Teague Asberry. He was a veteran
of the Vietnam War.
Funeral services were held at l:00 p.m. January 20 at First Baptist
Church with Rev. Benjamin Smith officiating. Interment followed in Hooks
Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were, Freddie M. Bennett, Robert Fuller, Leo
Daniel Henderson, A.J. Lewis, Marcellus Moore, and Travis Branch.
Honorary pallbearers named were, Lucio, Homer Williams, Joe Roland,
Raymond Butler, James Barlow and Thomas Lindsey. Mr. Asberry is survived
by his mother, Annie Doris Asberry of Lockhart; son, Broderick Asberry
of Lockhart.
He was preceded in death by his children, Claudie Asberry, III and
Paula Asberry, his father Claudie Asberry Sr., brothers, Milton and John
Henry Asberry. Three Aunts and four Uncles also preceded him in death.
Five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends survive.

Mr. Pedro F. Ramirez, 80, of Lockhart, passed away Thursday, January
18, 2001. Recitation of the rosary was at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21,
2001. Funeral mass was celebrated at l0:00 a.m. Monday, January 22, 2001
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Mr. Ramirez was preceded in death by his wife, Catalina Salas Ramirez,
and a daughter, Estella Zuniga. He is survived by children, Pedro Ramirez,
Jr., of Austin, Henry Ramirez, and wife, Linda, of San Marcos, Esther Garcia,
and husband Hector, Edward Ramirez, all of Lockhart, sister, Connie Ramirez,

Sadie Marie Rector, age 91, of Lockhart passed away Sunday, January
14, 2001. She was born in Lockhart, Texas on September l7, l909, the daughter
of William J. and Viola B. Miles New. She married Walter Rector on December
l4, l927 in McNiel, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter
Rector on July l5, l983; son, Jesse Glyn Rector on April 29, l999; sisters,
Billie Blanche Raburn and Beatrice New, and brother, Bobby Lee New.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy Rector and wife Ana of Lockhart; daughter
-in-law, Frances Rector of Buda, Brother -in-law, Robert Rayburn, Grandchildren;
Kenneth Rector and wife, Cindy, Carla Little and husband, Jeff and James
Rector; Great Grandchildren; Amy Rector, Jason Rector, John Little and
Joshua Little.
Services were held Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at McCurdy Funeral Home

Scottie Gayle Stevenson
Scottie Gayle Stevenson (January l5, l934-January 18, 2001) went to
the Lord, peacefully in her sleep. Scottie Gayle was a wonderful human
being, generous and kind to all. One of Scottie Gayle’s special gifts was
the ability to serve as a peacemaker and help lead others to see their
similarities rather than their differences. Scottie Gayle loved life and
was devoted to her family and friends.
Scottie Gayle Stevenson was the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Coke Stevenson,
Jr. and grandaughter of Coke Stevenson, former Governor of Texas.
She graduated from Austin High School and received her Bachelors Degree
from the University of Texas-Plan II. She graduated with a Masters in Public
Health from the University of California at Berkley.
Her professional career began with the American Cancer Society of Texas.
She then worked at the Texas Dept. of Health in the Chronic Illness Division.
She also served as the Director of Health Education for the City of Houston
Health Department and later moved to Austin to be the Director of Planned
Parenthood. Scottie Gayle later became the Director of Primary Health Care
for Hays, Caldwell, Bastrop, Blanco, Fayette and Lee counties. She retired
in l996 to devote full attention to Rancho San Francisco in Lockhart which
she shared with her dear friend and business partner, Nanci Falley. Scottie
Gayle and Nanci worked together to build the American Indian Horse Registry.
Scottie Gayle Stevenson deeply loved her native state of Texas and
nurtured it’s people and it’s creatures with and enduring tenderness that
will long be remembered.
She is survived by her mother, Mr. Coke R. Stevenson,Jr. siter, Linda
Fay Corbo and husband Mel Corbo of San Antonio; friend, Nanci Falley of
Lockhart; nephews, Coke S. Corbo and wife Diane of Houston and Scott S.
Corbo and wife Amy of Dallas; three great-nieces and one great-nephew;
aunts, Mrs. Margaret Preston Stewart of Cleburn, Mrs. Mary Flanagan of
Port Arthur, and Jane Chandler of Ozona.
Services were held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on Sunday, January
21st at 5:00 p.m. followed by visition with the family. Interment services
were at 2:00 on Monday, January 22, 2001 at the Stevenson Ranch in Junction,
Texas.
