He was past President of Local 572 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union. He was founder of their Pension Fund and Credit Union, now known as AECE Federal Credit Union. He was active in CLC and United Way, and was a member of Central Pike Church of Christ. He was also a member of American Legion Post 88. Went to his reward, October 3, 2002 following an extended illness. Preceded in death by parents, Franklin Paul Morris and Virginia Mae Bearden Morris. Survived by wife of 61 years, Betty Porch Morris; sons, Bob (Elizabeth) Morris and Dick (Martha) Morris of Franklin; and daughter, Lynn (David) MacKenzie of Beamsville, Ontario; ten grandchildren; one great-grandaughter; and three sisters, Ruth Collins of Nashville, Martha "Chick" Hammond of Atlanta and Polly Saywell of Timonium, MD. Bud was born in Atlanta, GA on December 7, 1917. After graduating from David Lipscomb College in 1938, he worked with his father until March, 1943, when he was called into service with the U.S. Army. Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to Nashville and Lipscomb, which had expanded to a four year program, adding its first Junior class in 1946. He was a member of both the tennis and golf teams, and was President of the first graduating Senior Class in 1948. Most of his adult life thereafter was spent in construction related businesses in Atlanta and Nashville. In 1985, he was made City Manager of the City of Oak Hill, and held that position for 13 years until his retirement at He was a faithful Christian throughout his life, ever involved in ministry through song leading and teaching. He was a deacon at Hillsboro Church of Christ during the last years of his life. The family will receive friends at the Hillsboro Church of Christ on Sunday, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., and on Monday, from 12 Noon until time of service at 1 p.m., at Hillsboro Church of Christ. Interment to follow, in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Conducting the funeral service will be Bro. Clarence Dailey and Bro. Warren Jones. Active Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews. Miss Vandergriff was a long-time educator, having taught in DeKalb and Sumner Counties. She is survived by 2 sisters, Nola B. Vandergriff of Smithville and Pauline Moon of Chattanooga; 1 brother, Walter Vandergriff of Dowelltown; 6 nieces; and 4 nephews; several great-nieces and nephews. Services Sunday, October 6, 2002 at 3:30 p.m., at DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville, with Dr. Glenn Weekly officitiating. Interment in Salem Cemetery in Liberty.
