Scottish Rite Mason of the Jere Baxter Lodge No. 742, F&AM of Nashville,
TN. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Sara Simpkins Abernathy of
the home; daughter, Janice Abernathy Smith and her husband, Fred of Greensboro;
grandson, Michael S. Smith and his wife, Lisa of Columbia, SC; great grandson,
Colson Marshall Smith; sisters, Anna Mae Abernathy Simmons of Richmond,
VA and Louise Abernathy Marable of Brentwood, TN; brother, H.V. Abernathy
of Madison, TN. A sister, Frances Abernathy, preceded him in death. The
family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. October 4, 2002 at Forbis & Dick

hospital. She was a native of Jasper, the daughter of the late Jerry A.
and Clemmie Turner Walker, and was the former Clerk and Master of Marion
County, and was a member of the Jasper Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Patton Beene. She is survived
by one daughter, Anne B. Brown of Bonita Springs, FL; two sons, Dr. George
Patton Beene and wife Barbara, Maumelle, AR, Lemuel Robert Beene and wife
Frances, Athens, TN; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren;
two sisters, Leona W. Roberts, Huntington Beach, CA and Mary Sue Reed,
Chattanooga; one brother, Robert Kirk Walker and wife Joy, Chattanooga;
several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted from the graveside,
in Bean-Rolston Cemetery, South Pittsburg, TN, Saturday, October 5, at
