ROGERSVILLE -- Beulah Mae Drinnon, age 85, Rogersville, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, after an extended illness. 
She will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew her. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; a beloved son, Ralph Drinnon; and daughter, Maxine. 
She is survived by two sisters, Aretta Manley and Susan Christian; two daughters and a son-in-law, J.B. and Etta Fields, Rogersville, and Bennie Sue Stevens of Virginia; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Lowell Drinnon of Maryland, J.C. and Darlene Drinnon, Rogersville, Jack and Roxie Drinnon, and Garnie Drinnon, all of Maryland. 
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dee Hicks officiating. Interment followed at Highland Cemetery. 
The family will receive friends 7 - 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home Chapel, Rogersville.

Elsie Bernard 
Died: 12/23/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- Elsie Bernard, age 86, Rogersville, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Sunbridge Brookhaven, Kingsport, following a brief illness. 
She was a life-long resident of Hawkins County. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Carmel Free Will Baptist Church where she was an active member for many years. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Myrtle "Sis" Bernard; a sister, Carrie Edith Bernard; and a brother, Reece N. Bernard. 
She is survived by a nephew, George W. Bernard and wife Polly, Kingsport; and a sister-in-law, Irene Bernard, Kingsport. 
Calling hours are 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at the Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes.

Charles E. Baker 
Died: 12/20/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- Charles Edward Baker, age 57, Rogersville, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. 
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Army and was recipient of the Bronze Star award. He was employed by TRW with 27 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rogersville, was a member of American Legion #21, and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9543. he was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Overton Lodge #5 F&AM and a Shriner of Jericho Temple, Knoxville. 
He was preceded in death by his father, Kyle W. Baker (June 1979) and mother, Mary Lena Ross Baker (May 1972). 
He is survived by his wife, Janice Hall Baker; a daughter, Kathy L. Baker, both of the home; a son, Mark E. Baker and wife, Melody; two granddaughters, Alissa "Ali" Baker and Alexis "Lexi" Baker, all of Rogersville; two sisters, Sarah Murphy-Stewart and husband Lynn, Morristown, and Nell Baker Short and husband J.D., Bean Station; two brothers, Kyle Ross Baker and wife Annita, and James H. "Jim" Baker and wife Lori, all of Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Rogersville First Baptist Church, with Revs. Charles Hobbs and Johnnie Hall Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery with military honors provided by Hawkins County Color Guard. 
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service at First Baptist Church, Rogersville.

A. J. Richards 
Died: 12/19/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- A.J. Richards, age 79, Rogersville, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He was a member of the Latter Day Saints. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jearline Richards; father John Henry Richards; mother, Ethel Leroy Richards; step-mother, Reddie Richards; two granddaughters, Mary Louise Richards and Kathey Jearline Lawson; three sisters, Lennie Marie Richards, Jinnie Richards and Mattie Mae Gilliam; and a brother, Sgt. James Paul Richards. 
He is survived by ten children, Junior Wayne Hamonds, Mosheim, Coy Douglas Richards, Dekalb, IL, Glen Henry Richards, Surgoinsville, Linda Kay Lawson, Rogersville, Fred Monroe Richards, Morgantown, KY, Nina Jean Carnine, Henderson, KY, Gary Zane Richards, Rogersville, Dana Sue Cutshaw, Henderson, KY, Connie Pearson, Rogersville, and Wanda Faye Embry, Rogersville; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Johnny Richards, Kingsport, Bob Richards of Indiana, Lynnburg Richards, Doug Richards and George Richards, all of Rogersville; seven sisters, Elizabeth Collier, Nell Fawbush, Mollie Albright and Mary Gilliam, all of Rogersville, Dorothy Gorbea, St. Clair, Alice Mayes and Carolyn Ball, both of Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.

MORRISTOWN -- James Henry (Jim) Long, age 77, Morristown, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at his residence. 
He was a life-long carpenter and a member of West View Baptist Church. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Amanda Pearl Long; and two infant sisters.

TALBOTT -- Rebecca J. (Becky) Harrell, age 51, Talbott, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at her residence. 
She was am employee of the Hamblen County School system at Manley School and was a member of White Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was a loving wife and mother. 
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Ted. R. Harrell.

Pearl M. Bell

CHURCH HILL -- Pearl Maxine Bell, age 73, Church Hill, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at her residence. 
She was a member of Grassy Springs Baptist Church and was employed at Our House Restaurant. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clint and Mattie Lawson; grandchild, Timothy Sabin McPeek; three brothers and two sisters. 
She is survived by a son, Michael Bell, Church Hill; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Phillippie, Bluff City, and Mrs. David (Patsy) McPeek Clark, Blountville; three grandchildren, Anthony McPeek, Church Hill, Robbie Phillippie, Fall Branch, and Rebecca Perry, Piney Flatts; two great-grandchildren, Melody Phillippie and Matthew Phillippie, both of Fall Branch; a sister, June Lawson Mabe, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Otis Heron 
Died: 12/14/2000
CHILHOWIE, VA -- Otis Herron, age 82, Chilhowie, VA, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Smyth County Community Hospital following an extended illness. 
He was born in Lee County, VA, April 29, 1918 and lived most of his adult life in Rogersville, where he made his home with his sister, Rosezetta Reed. He made his profession of faith Christmas Eve, 1947. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Jane Gilliam Herron; a sister, Gladys Klepper; and brothers, Clarence Herron, Carson Herron and Marshall Herron. 
He is survived by three sisters, Virgie Collins and husband A.V., Elsie Trent and husband Hugh, and Rosezetta Reed, all of Rogersville; a brother, John Herron Jr. and wife Birdie, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews. 
Calling hours will be 7 - 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Virgil H. Tunnell 
Died: 12/13/2000
KINGSPORT -- Virgil H. Tunnell, age 78, Kingsport, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in the Indian Path Medical Center following a period of declining health. 
He was born Oct. 31, 1922, in Van Hill. He attended the Glenwood Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, entering the serving May 19, 1943. He served with the U.S. Navy on D-day during the invasion of Normandy. He was a life-long member of the VFW and retired from the Tennessee Eastman Company as an electrician. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Byrd and Mae Luster Tunnell; a sister, Opal Jones; and a great-grandson, James (RC) Hurd. 
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy Tunnell of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Robert Blevins and Margaret and Ben Larkin, all of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Beverly Fricke, David Bowles, Rick Hurd and Michelle Morin; and seven great-grandchildren. 
Calling hours will be 6 - 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, with the funeral service following visitation at 7:30 p.m. in East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Jim Lindsey and Carl Kelleher officiating. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in the Garden of Apostleís in the East Lawn Memorial Park with military honors by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post 3382.

Myron B. Jones 
Died: 12/13/2000
MYRON B. JONES ROGERSVILLE -- Myron B. Jones, age 71, Rogersville, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital. 
He was a Vietnam War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army where he received the Bronze Star award. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 1/2 years of service. He was employed by Ladd Furniture Co. Inc. He was a member of the Persia Baptist Church. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myron B. and Willie Chaney Jones; and a sister, Velma Trent. 
He is survived by a son, Rev. Ron Jones and wife Jeanne, New Market; three granddaughters, Lori Jones, Kara Jones and Melanie Jones, all of New Market; a sister, Wanda Jones, Rogersville; a brother, Otis Jones, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Stella Fields 
Died: 12/12/2000
CHURCH HILL -- Stella Fields, age 43, Church Hill, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness. 
She was born in Kingsport but had been a resident of Hawkins County all her life. She attended Primitive Baptist Church on the Old Johnson City Highway. 
She was preceded in death by an infant sister; and maternal grandmother, Marilda Taylor. 
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sonia and Clifford Boggs and Tonia and Lloyd Smith, all of Church Hill; a son, Anthony (Tony) Wayne Fields Jr. of the home; parents, Elmer and Ruth Taylor King, Church Hill; two grandchildren, Nathaniel Salyer and Jessica Boggs; a third grandchild due Dec. 29, 2000, who will be named Anthony Shane Smith; father of her children, Anthony Wayne Fields Sr., Church Hill; two step-grandchildren, Courtney Boggs and Matthew Boggs; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and George Witt, Gray, Carolyn and Steven Hayes, Joyce and David Hall, all of Kingsport; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter Edward Gray, David Scott King, William Archie and Teresa King and Kenneth Lee and Geneva King, all of Church Hill; several nieces and nephews.

Imogene H. Kite

MORRISTOWN -- Imogene H. Kite, Morristown, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Heritage Nursing Home, Morristown following an extended illness. 
She was a native of Smith County, VA, and had resided in Kingsport before moving to Michigan and then to Morristown in 1978. She was a member of Robertson Creek Baptist Church, Morristown. 
She is survived by her husband, Martin V. Kite of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Tickle and wife Geraldine, Chattanooga; and Carl Tickle and wife Shirley, Roanoke, VA; a step-son, Randall Kite, Taylor, MI; six grandchildren, Lea Ann Burk, Lisa Roberts, Linda Trickle, Lizabeth Tickle, Carl Tickle Jr., Alden Tickle; three step-granddaughters, Jennifer Kite, Jodi Kite and Jamie Kite; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

ROGERSVILLE -- Jean McAlister Skelton, age 79, Rogersville, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness. 
She was a member of the Russellville Presbyterian Church and also attended other churches in Hawkins County. She was a nutritionist for Hawkins County Extension. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gale Skelton; sisters, Ada Brady, Argent Silvers and Ruby McAlister; brothers, James McAlister and Thomas McAlister. 
She is survived by a daughter, Astra and husband Jim Ford, Rogersville; two sons, Charles Skelton of the home, and Gerald Skelton and wife Mary, Rogersville; four grandchildren, Jeffery Ford, Morristown, Mark Ford, John Skelton and Paul Skelton, all of Rogersville; two great-grandchildren, Lindsey Ford and Preston Ford; sisters-in-law, Dexter McAlister and Kate Carpenter, both of Morristown; special friend, Helen Voils, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth R. Henard 
Died: 12/10/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- Ruth Rouse Henard, age 84, Rogersville, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Rogersville. 
She was a graduate of ETSU with a bachelor degree in science and was a retired school teacher serving 40 years with the Rogersville City and Hawkins County school systems. She was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church where she was an active member until her illness. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Big Creek Home Demonstration Club, and was active with the First Baptist Church Keen-Agers and the First Baptist Church Cheerful Chimes Choir of Rogersville. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henard. 
She is survived by a nephew, Darrell Rouse and wife Zelma, Rogersville; great-nieces, Teresa Rouse Bundren, Karen Rouse Brooks and husband Zan; great-nephews, Dean Rouse and wife Paula, and Bill Rouse, all of Surgoinsville; great-great-nephews, John Bundren, Dalton Bundren, Hunter Rouse, Tristan Brooks and Dustin Rouse; great-great-nieces, Ginger Bundren, Haley Rouse and Peyton Brooks.

ROGERSVILLE -- Amanda J. Gibson, age 89, Rogersville, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Lakeway Regional Hospital following an extended illness. 
She was a member of Panther Creek Missionary Baptist Church. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Gibson Sr.; sons, Ralph Gibson Jr. and Emmitt Gibson; parents, Singletary and Ida Fletcher Johnson; and several brothers and sisters. 
She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Verdie Gibson, Kathleen Hensley and husband Willie, Dot Klepper and husband Jim, Betty Price, all of Rogersville, and Deloris Lee and husband Otis, Whitesburg; two sons, Eugene Gibson, Rogersville, and Walter "Sonny" Gibson and wife Mary Lynn, Attica, IN; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughters; special granddaughters, Rene Schaefers and Susan McClanahan; a special grandson, Rick Gibson, all of Rogersville; three sisters, Fannie Baker, Sneedville, Julie Parham, Spartansburg, SC, and Jeanette Edens, Jonesborough; a brother, Homer Johnson, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Joe E. Fugate III 
Died: 12/09/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- Joe Eldridge Fugate III (affectionately called Joey), age 60, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, in Rogersville.
He retired from John Sevier Fossil Plant after 21 years of service and in May of this year he retired after 26 years with the Army National Guard #278 Army Cavalry. He was a member of Russell Chapel AME Zion Church and a member of American Legion Post #21. He was an avid gun collector. 
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Fugate Jr.; mother, Mary K. Carr; brother, Jesse Neal Fain; and sister, Mary Ann Cartwright. 
He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Anthony Purnell, Germantown, MD; step-son, Steve Hampton and wife Valarie, Southfield, MI; six grandchildren, Erica, Joel, Jordyn, Danielle, Alexsa and Anthony Jr.; devoted mother-in-law, Mary Hampton, Newport; six sisters and three brothers, Richard Lynn ?fugate, Judith Johnson, Mrs. Rolax (Barbara) Jones, and Mrs. Leonard (Phyllis) Ewing, all of Rogersville, Mrs. Lanny (Kathy) Tarter, Johnson City, Mrs. Anthony (Christine) Johnson, Jeffery and Melinda Fugate, all of Kingsport, Marshall Cartwright, Church Hill, and Pamela (Suzanne) Pruitt, Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; a host of cousins; two special cousins, Wayne Fain and William Fugate; and a special friend, Bobby Gudger.

She was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Eidson; parents, John N. and Sarah Rouse; and brothers, Fred, Alfred and Jake Rouse. 
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Joel Eidson and wife Carol, Rogersville, and Jim E. Ida F. Eidson 
Died: 12/05/2000
MORRISTOWN -- Ida Faye Eidson, age 58, Morristown, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Morristown Hamblen Hospital following an extended illness. 
She was a member of McClouds Baptist Church. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ola Mae Cupp; a brother, George Cupp; and a sister, Louise Jefferson. 
She is survived by her companion, Tim Barnerd of the home; eight children, Billy Barnes and wife Darlene, Russellville, Robin Barnes and companion Eddie Lambert, Morristown, Shirley Harris, Morristown, Carl Barnes and wife Lynda, Rogersville, Darlene Barnes, Morristown, Lisa Eidson and companion Timmy Holt, Morristown, Jeannie Singleton and husband Miller, Morristown, and Stevie Eidson, Morristown; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Willie Cupp, Russellville, Frank Cupp, Rogersville, Joe Cupp Jr., Rogersville, and James Cupp, Mt. Carmel; three sisters, Jean Dixon, Bean Station, Dorothy Collins, Rogersville, and Ruth Dodson, Russellville; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. 
The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow 8 p.m. with Revs. Ricky Dodson and Chris Davis officiating. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at the Kite Cemetery. 

Kenneth J. Allen 
Died: 12/07/2000
LINVILLE, NC -- Kenneth James Allen, age 54, Linville, NC, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, in a Forsyth County Hospital. 
He grew up in Glen Ellyn, IL, and attended the University of Illinois for two years, majoring in graphic design, before entering the military. He served as an officer in the 82nd Airborne Division for two years. Following completion of military duty, he moved to Rogersville, where he completed his BFA (1972) and MFA (1974) in ceramics at East Tennessee State University. While there, he served as graduate assistant in the ceramics department teaching beginning throwing and hand-building. After graduation he maintained a studio/gallery in Rogersville for 21 years., relocating to Banner Elk, NC, in 1995. 
He exhibited his work in major art show throughout the years, as well as selling through galleries, museums and stores, including the Renwick and Whitney Museum Shops, and Gumpís of San Francisco. His work received many awards and found its way into various private and corporate collections. His work has been exhibited in the Smithsonian Institute. He was a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild and Piedmont Craftsman. 
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Chapman Allen, Linville; a son, Jacob Allen, Rogersville and Washington, DC; parents, Lee and Helene Allen, Sun City, AZ; and sisters, Elaine Rauch, Canton, MI, and Barbara Dell, Elmhurst, IL. 
Graveside services were held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, in the Tanglewood Cemetery, Linville, with Rev. David Hale officiating. Arrangements were under direction of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Newland. 

Thelma O. Carpenter 
Died: 12/05/2000
MOORESBURG -- Thelma Orpha Carpenter, age 86, Mooresburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at her residence following a brief illness.
She was a member of Big Hill Baptist Church. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Carpenter; parents, John Leslie and Annis Clonce Hileman; a daughter, Thelma Jean Vaughn; and a brother, Grant Hileman. 
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Wolfe, Bean Station, and Phyllis Hall, Mooresburg; a son, Merle Carpenter Sr., Mooresburg; three sisters, Agnes Orrick and husband Kyle, Leslie Wallace and husband Cannie, Myrtle Watson and husband John, all of Mooresburg; four grandchildren, Robert Wayne Hall, Sharon K. Coffey, both of Mooresburg, Patricia Epperson, Bean Station, and Merle Carpenter Jr., Greeneville; three great-grandchildren, Lesley Coffey, Billy Coffey, both of Mooresburg, and Eric Epperson, Bean Station; and several nieces and nephews. 
Calling hours will be 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville. 
Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, in the funeral home chapel with Revs. Willard Wilder and Michael Manis officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Big Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Christina Armstrong 
Died: 12/05/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- Christina Armstrong, age 88, Rogersville died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness. 
She was a 1933 graduate of Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, VA. She was a member of Rogersville Presbyterian Church and was co-owner and clerk of Rod Armstrong & co. She was a most dedicated daughter and sister and was very generous of those in need, and had a compassionate heart for those in prison. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry C. and Anna Armstrong; and a sister, Kathryn Armstrong. 
She is survived by loyal and loving caregivers, Nell Kirkpatrick, Betty Rush and Carrie Mae Rogers, all of Rogersville; loyal cousins, Lois Armstrong, Florence Armstrong, Ruth Kirkpatrick and Nell Armstrong, all of Rogersville, Mack Armstrong and Simmons Armstrong, both of Washington, DC, Dr. Joe Armstrong, Bristol, John Armstrong, Tallahassee, FL, Hampton Armstrong, Madison, AL, Mary A. Anthony, Bartlett, Madeline A. Blobe, Carrboro, NC, and Mrs. Rhea (Madeline) Armstrong, Rogersville; as well as a number of other cousins. 
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Rogersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Dr. David L. Hale officiating.

Bessie Mowl

ROGERSVILLE -- Bessie Mowl, age 95, Rogersville, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Ridgeview Terrace. 
She was of the Methodist faith. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen C. Mowl; a son, G.C. Mowel; and parents, H.B. and Martha Everhart Gibson. 
She is survived by a daughter, Paulina Mowl, Rutledge; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a nephew; and a special friend, Scott Lee, Rogersville. 
Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Rev. Carl Jones officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday prior to the services at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Mack Bowlin

KYLES FORD -- Mack Bowlin, age 83, Kyles Ford, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at his home. 
He was a member of Compromise Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Laura Bowlin; brothers, Bobby, Oscar, Richard and Luther Bowlin; and sisters, Martha and Maggie Sutton. 
He is survived by his wife, Minnie Bowlin, Kyles Ford; a sister, Julia Bowlin, Kyles Ford; and several nieces and nephews. 
The family will receive friends 2 - 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at the McNeil Funeral Home, Sneedville. 
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at the Compromise Baptist Church with Revs. J.C. Lawson and Earl Bowlin officiating. Interment will be in the Bowlin Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ray and Billy Begley, Troy Lawson, Rodney Lawson, David Bowlin and Ben Erwin. Singers will be Compromise Singers.
