Ruby Lee Elliott, co-founder of Elliott's Seat Cover Center, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at a local hospital. She was 85.

Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Walter Lee "Spooky'' Featherstone died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in a local hospital.

John Frazier

John Grant Frazier of Hixson died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at his residence. He was 44. 

He lived most of his life in Pennsauken, N.J., before moving to Chattanooga in 1993. He was employed with Chattanooga General Services.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Paul Frazier; two daughters, Jennifer Frazier and Rachel Frazier, both of Hixson; parents, John and Janice Frazier, Tunnel Hill, Ga.; sister, Donna
Basford, Red Bank; and maternal grandmother, Regis Mathis, Lumberton, N.J.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.

Elizabeth Gates

Elizabeth W. Gates died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in an area health care facility. She was 80.

She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Jones, Nashville; son, Harry Gates, Chattanooga; and sister, Geraldine Chaney, Chattanooga.

The funeral will be Wednesday at noon at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home, with the Rev. Willie Jackson officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Memorial Garden.

Visitation will be after noon today at the funeral home.

Richard Gibbs

Richard L. Gibbs died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at his home. He was 40.

He was the son of the late Ralph Gibbs.

Survivors include his mother, Doris Gibbs, Soddy-Daisy; two sisters, Beth Tucker, Rossville, Ga., and Jeanna Life, Soddy-Daisy; and two brothers, Keith and Kelley Gibbs, both of
Soddy-Daisy.

The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with minister Jim Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Jennie Giffe

Jennie Alma Giffe of East Ridge died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in a local nursing home. She was 84.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Sunnyside Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had worked as a nurse for Erlanger Hospital.

Survivors include a son, James E. Giffe, East Ridge; sister, Florence Moore, East Ridge; brother, James Arthur Kerley, Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Clifford Herd and Dr. William Owens officiating.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, and at 506 Marlboro Ave. in East Ridge, other hours.

Charles R. Hampton died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at a local hospital. He was 73.

A graveside service will be today at 3:30 p.m. in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Clarence Jackson

Clarence Jackson died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. He was 77.

Ethel Jarnagin

Ethel H. Jarnagin died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in an area health care facility. She was 87.

She was a longtime resident of Knoxville, and a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 14 years. She retired from Dr. Lawrence Kennedy's office.

Mrs. Jarnagin was preceded in death by her husband, R.V. Jarnagin.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandy Easterday, Louisville, Ky.; sister, Jean Mathews, Chattanooga; three grandsons; and one great-grandson.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Knoxville.

There will be no visitation.

Mary Katherine Keys of East Ridge died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in a local health care facility. She was 69.

She was a native of Clay County, Ala., and had lived most of her life in the Chattanooga area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Cox Keys.

Survivors include four daughters, Sonja Donald, Jacksonville, Fla., Gloria Gass, Soddy-Daisy, Pam Stephens, Trenton, Ga., and Paula Melton, East Ridge; two sons, Steve Keys, East
Ridge, and Gregg Keys, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Effie Laney and Alice Barnett, both of Pisgah, Ala., Lela Mae Smith, Trenton, Ga., and Tena Hayes, Flat Rock, Ala.; brother,
Joe Bill Taylor, Pisgah; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kevin Long Jr.

Kevin Tobias Long Jr., infant son of Kevin Tobias Long Sr. and Torey Harris, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at a local hospital. He was 1 day old.

A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. in Babyland in Rhea Memory Gardens with the Rev. Franklin Ball officiating.

Bertha Motley died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at a local health care facility. She was 82.

The funeral will be today at noon at St. Paul AME Church with the Rev. Eddie L. Williams officiating. Burial will be in Marsh Cemetery in Noble, Ga.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

Jess Nail Jr. of Hixson died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in a local hospital. 

Mr. Nail was retired from the grocery business and served in the U.S. Army in Germany for three years as a staff sergeant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Nail Sr.; a sister, Sue Dunn, Spring City, Tenn.; and a brother, Roger Nail, Hixson.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Nail; sister, Margie Richardson, Red Bank; stepson, James Bishop, Pensacola, Fla.; one niece and a nephew.

William Nelms Sr.

William Henry Nelms Sr. died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at a local hospital. He was 78.

Ruby West died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in an area hospital. She was 68.

She was a native of Chattanooga and retired from Holiday Inn as a cook.

Mrs. West was preceded in death by her husband, William West, and son, Kenneth West.

Mr. Clendenon retired from Buford Jones Lumber Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ova W. and Lessie Coppinger Clendenon.

She was a Baptist and was preceded in death by her father, Wesley Grider; and a sister, Joy Combs.

DAYTON -- Salma L. Johnson died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at her home. She was 93.

She was a Baptist and the widow of Clyde Johnson.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Wilkey, Dayton, Tenn.; one son, Harry Johnson, Red Bank; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Monday at Dayton City Cemetery with the Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating.

Henry Nunn

PIKEVILLE -- Henry Nunn died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was 87.

He retired as manager of United Parking at the age of 82. He was a member of Colonial Woods Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, Ga., and served in the U.S. Army in Japan during World
War II.

Survivors include his wife, April Nunn; daughter, Brenda Conoly, Pikeville; and son, Mark Nunn, Kennesaw, Ga.

Graveside services will be today at 1 p.m. CDT at Howard-Walker Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Whitaker officiating.

There will be no visitation at Putnam-Reed Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

CLEVELAND -- Doris Mae Sherwood Schnebel died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at her home. She was 72.

A Baptist, she was an active member of the Women's Bowling Association, and was retired from Roblyn's Steak House where she was hostess for over 22 years.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marcial Sherwood Johnson.

Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Schnebel Adams, Wautauga, Texas; three sons, Kenneth and Kurt Schnebel, both of Cleveland, and Keith Schnebel, Charleston, S.C.; brother,
William Sherwood, Michigan City, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

The body has been cremated.

He was a Baptist and worked as a security guard.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hart Sr.

LaFAYETTE -- William Billy Hathorn died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in an area hospital. He was 49.

He was the grandson of the late Myrtle Hathorn and Georgie Wallin.

RINGGOLD -- Paul Christopher Holtcamp died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in a local hospital from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was 40.

He graduated from Whitwell High School, attended Suck Creek Baptist Church and was a supervisor at Sunset Roofing.

Survivors include his mother, Nancy Smith; sister, Carol Campbell; one aunt; nieces and nephews.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Navarro; son, Tim Dallas Wardell, both of Utah; two stepdaughters, Angela Estill, Nashville, and Lori Morgan, Coalmont; three stepsons, Hall
Thomson, Nashville, and Ronnie Hutchins and Danny Hutchins, Colorado; brother, Douglas Wardell, Oregon; three sisters, Dina Verhall, Margaret Whittenbraker, all of Utah, and Laurie
Olsen, Virginia; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Sunday in Coalmont Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Cumberland Funeral Home, Tracy City, Tenn.
