CAMPBELL, MISS EVA D., age 88, of Jefferson City, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Friday morning, December 18, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City following an extended illness. Miss Campbell was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, having served as a Sunday School teacher and “GA’s” leader for more than 40 years. “Miss Eva” was owner/operator of Eva’s Beauty Shop for 64 years, having operated shops in New Market and Jefferson City prior to her retirement in 1994. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sanford and Nancy Weidner Campbell; brothers, Wayne Farris, and Edgar Campbell; and sister, Delta Farris. Survivors include her sisters, Agnes Underwood of Talbott and Blanche Jarnigan of Jefferson City; brother, Earl Campbell of Knoxville; nieces, Jean Underwood of Talbott, Nancy Rich of Corbin, Kentucky, Evelyn King of Morristown, Kay Kinkead of Knoxville, Brenda Price of Aurora, Illinois, and Delores Spencer of Nashville; nephew, Dean Campbell, Dandridge, several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews. LANGSTON, LEE, 63, of Russellville, died Friday evening, December 18, 1998, at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Elizabeth Adkins Langston. Mr. Langston was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and attended Morristown Wesleyan Church. He was an employee of Cemco Inc., and has many friends there that he never forgot. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Della Mayes Langston; sons, Mike Langston, and Roger Langston and wife Joy, all of Russellville; brother, Kenneth Langston of Garden Grove, CA.; sister, Sue Henman of San Jose, CA.; grandchildren, Amy, Roger, Miranda, and Tabitha Langston of Russellville, and Pam Langston of Bulls Gap; several nieces and nephews. TREADWAY, MR. JAMES EUGENE, 614 Opie Arnold Rd., Limestone, TN. died Monday December 14, 1998 at Cox South Hospital, Springfield, Mo. following a short illness. He was the son of Abe Eugene and Bertha Maude McCracken Treadway. He attended Mt. Bethel Christian Church and was a graduate of East Tennessee State University. He retired in 1990 from Walters State Community College. In his earlier career, he served as coach of winning basketball teams at Washington College Academy and Limestone Elementary School, Territorial Manager for “Save the Children Federation,” Wesson Oil, and Snowdrift Co., and Cox and Rich Wholesale. He served as counselor at an Easter Seal Crippled Children’s Camp, President of the Limestone Ruritan Club, District Lt. Governor for Ruritan National, Chairman of the Washington County Cancer Crusade, member of the Washington County School Board, and was a Red Cross Disaster Services Volunteer. Survivors include: his wife of 48 years, Cleo Carson Treadway, Limestone, TN.; one son, Dr. Jon Treadway, Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Cherie Matthews, Gray, TN., and Connie Dewald, Morristown, TN.; one brother, Bob Treadway, Johnson City, TN.; six grandchildren; one niece; and six nephews. HUDSON, MISS LENA M., age 92, of Jefferson City, formerly of Knoxville, passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 20, 1998 after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Margaret Franklin Hudson. Also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Ed Hudson, Mayme Greer, Lucy Hill, Eliza Rimmer, Ollie Kate Moore, Sallie White and Frank Hudson and she was also preceded in death by nieces and nephews, Kermit Hudson, Billy White, Margaret Hill, Jack Hill and Lena Mae Hill. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Knoxville where she served as the GA leader for a number of years. Presently she is a member of Leadvale Baptist Church of White Pine. WINSTEAD, DARRELL WAYNE, “BURR RABBIT,” age 43, of Kyles Ford, TN., passed away Monday, December, 21, 1998 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness. He had lived through three kidney transplants and forty-two years of diabetes. A life long resident of Hancock County, Mr. Winstead was a former employee of Dodge Reliance Electric; a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, and of McPearson Masonic Lodge No. 99 F&AM, Blackwater, VA.; He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bill and Lillie Winstead; and his maternal grandparents, Simon and Nishie Castle. Survivors include his parents, Robert and Joyce Castle Winstead of Kyles Ford, TN.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Brenda Winstead Maxey of Sneedville, TN., and Harold and Judy Winstead Lawson of Rogersville, TN.; a nephew, Anthony Wayne Maxey of Sneedville, TN.; a niece, Cherish Faith Lawson of Rogersville, TN. LIVESAY, ROBERT LEE, age 71, of Westminster, MD., died on Tuesday, December 22, 1998, at his home. He was born on May 12, 1927, in Kyles Ford, TN. He was the son of Dewey Livesay of Morristown, TN., and the late Addie Collinsworth Livesay. He was the husband of Opaline Livesay of Westminster. He had worked as a driver for the paint crew for the MD State Highway Administration. He was a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, West Friendship. He was predeceased by a son, the late Bobby Livesay and brothers, the late Charles “Evin” Livesay and the late Jess Livesay. Surviving in addition to his father and wife are son: Michael Livesay of Eldersburg; daughters, Pamela C. Cunningham of Sykesville and Sherry Lynn Finzel of Westminster; brothers, Carl Livesay of Marriottsville, Homer Livesay of Sykesville, Calvin Livesay of Woodbine, Albert Livesay and Luther Livesay both of Morristown, TN. and Bill Livesay of Rogersville, TN.; and sister, Lochiel Garretson of Morristown, TN. PHILLIPS, JESSE GORMAN, born Jan, 7 1918 in Sardis, Tennessee and passed away Dec. 24, 1998 in Knoxville at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church as long as health permitted. He served in the CCC’s prior to World War II, and four years in the Signal Corps attached to the Army Air Force during World War II. He retired from Western Company with 40 years service, at which time Newport became his home. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. W.W. and Mary McMurray Phillips. Survivors are: his beloved wife of 56 years, Georgia Mae Lewis Phillips; son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd W. and Cynthia Phillips all of Newport; brother, James Paris Phillips of Big Sandy, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. HARRIS, JAMES S., age 76, of 107 Tipton Ave., Church Hill, passed away Friday, December 25, 1998 at the Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Harris was a life long resident of Hawkins County, and was a charter member of the Lyons Park Missionary Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by one son Harold Harris, his parents, Tony and Louise Harris; one sister, Betty Harris and six brothers, Tony Harris, Phil Harris, Walter Harris, Burle Harris, Paul Harris and George Harris. Survivors include his wife of 57 years Mrs. Mary Jayne Harris of the home. WINKLES, JUANITA LAWSON, age 77, died December 24, 1998 after a long illness. She was a native of Hancock County, Tennessee. She was born the daughter of Lester T. Lawson and Hattie Seal Lawson on April 1, 1921. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Elisha G. Lawson and Kyle Seal And survived by her sister, Lilly Mae Lawson Purkey of Morco Island, Florida. Mrs. Winkles was the wife of the late John D. Winkles of Lake Moore, Morristown, Tennessee. The couple were married on May 12, 1940. Their children are David C. Winkles of Skyesville, Maryland , Ronald C. Winkles of Whitesburg, Tennessee and the late John. A. Winkles of Skyesville, MD. She had seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and 15 nieces and 22 nephews. Mrs. Winkles was a member of Buffalo Trail Baptist Church of Morristown for over 30 years. She was also a charter and founding member of Liberty Baptist Church of Lisbon, Maryland. Juanita was an active member of the Hamblen county Republican Party for more than 30 years. Her other lifetime memberships included the Patrons of Husbandry, Pamona Grange, Barrett, Maryland and the Order of Eastern Star, Prudence Lodge, Mt. Airy Maryland. Juanita loved to entertain friends and relatives. She was an avid collector of Early American antiques and primitive pieces of Appalachian furniture and pottery. DAVIS, REV. DR. ERNEST JR., a twenty-three year, Poughkeepsie resident, died Monday, December 28, 1998 at Vassar Hospital. At the time of his death he was both the Pastor of the Second Baptist Church in Dover Plains, New York and the Senior Chaplain at the Green Haven Correctional Facility in Stormville, New York. He previously worked for the City of Poughkeepsie as the E.M.O/M.B.E. Officer. He was born in Morristown, Tennessee on September 16, 1937 to the Rev. Ernest W. Davis and Freedie Davis who predeceased him. He received his early education in Morristown schools, under graduate degrees from Newark State College and Andover Newton Theological School, and his Doctor of Divinity from Drew University. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a participant in the annual Dutchess Interfaith Council music festival, member of the Dutchess County African American Clergy Association, the Dutchess County Clergy Association, the Gospel Music Workshop of America, the Drew University Theological School Executive Board, and Past Moderator and member of the American Baptist Association. Albert Davis, Mr. David Davis, and Mr. George Davis of Morristown, Tennessee and Rev. Billy Ray Davis of Newport, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, daughters and sons-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. One aunt, Mrs. Henrietta Fanney, of Thorn Hill, Tennessee, Two brothers, Clarence and John, died previously. Arrangements are being handled by the Hufcut Funeral Home in Dover Plains, New York. Calling hours are from 10:30 to 12 on Saturday, Jan. 2 at the Beulah Baptist Church, Catharine St., Poughkeepsie with the service immediately following. Rev. Jesse V. Bottoms will be officiating with Rev. Albert Davis delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in the Mausoleum at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery following the service. OVERHOLT, BILL S., age 79, of Mohawk, passed way December 31, 1998 at Takoma Adventist Hospital .He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Margaret Overholt.
