KENNEY, HAZEL COWARD, 88, passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998 in Heritage Manor in Rogersville. She was preceded in death by her husband Rex Wayland Kenney; parents, William and Bertha Coward; brother, W.J. Coward Jr., and sister, Agnes C. Young. She was a life long member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church; a member of Delta Kappa Gamma; the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 471, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was a graduate of Tusculum College and received her Masters Degree in Education from East Tennessee State University. She considered it an honor to teach in Hawkins County schools for fifty years. She also taught at Harrison Chilhowee Academy in Seymour. She is survived by one brother, Walter S.. Coward of St. Clair; nieces, Billie S. Sutherland, Betsy R. Michel, Jackie A. Carnes, Audrey Gilliam, Betty Joe Norton, Rebecca Buchanan, Becky Goodson, and Billie S. Kennedy; nephews, Robert L. Young, Samuel Young Jr., William F. Young, and Stanley Coward; several great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. Member of Calvary Baptist Church of Jefferson City; retired employee of Johnson Spring Factory after several years of service. REED, EDWARD LYNN, 51, of 733 Beulah St., Morristown, passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998 in Lakeway Regional Hospital, following a brief illness. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Fuller Reed. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Poe Reed, of the home; mother and step-father, Fayrene and Bo Leonard of Morristown; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Maria Reed of Eureka, CA.; special nephew, Shawn Reed of Johnson City; 3 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law, Juanita Trent of Whitesburg, Edna and Kenneth Bryant of Morristown, Dorothy and Roy Harmon of Bulls Gap; Several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. SMITH, RUBY LEE WEST, age 84, of 5740 Charlene Drive, Russellville, passed away Saturday, September 26, 1998 at Heritage Center. She was a charter member of Fernwood Baptist Church and served as clerk of the church for over 50 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Smith. Survivors include: daughters, Sue Wassum of Russellville, Georgia Huntsinger of California; son, Randy Smith of Morristown; brother, James West of Morristown; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 1998 at Mayes Mortuary with Rev. Charles Smith and Rev. O’Dell Davidson officiating. WINSTEAD, LUTHER, age 75, of 1211 East Old A.J. Hwy. Talbott, TN., formerly of Rogersville, passed away Sunday, October 4, 1998, at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital after an extended illness. He was a member of Henard’s Chapel Baptist Church and was retired from Phillips Magnavox after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Oma Price Winstead and three brothers, Carl, Frank and Walter Winstead. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Winstead of the home; one son, Billy Joe Winstead of Rogersville; two daughters, Mrs. David (Barbara) Greer and Mrs. Paul (Debbie) Bledsoe of Rogersville; two step-sons, Danny Feagins of Kingsport and Dennis Feagins of Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Bennie Burton of Rogersville; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. BARNARD, GLENN EARNEST SR., age 85, of Mohawk, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at Mt. Home. He was the son of the late I.J. and Kate Barnard and was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Arnott Barnard; sister, Jewel Hipshire and daughter, Patricia Fuller. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: children, Glenn E. Barnard Jr., and his wife, Tracy of Mohawk, Carolyn Fellers and her husband, Charlie of Mosheim, Garry Barnard and his wife Kathy of Mohawk; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. COLLINS, ELIZABETH FRANCES, age 88, of Morristown, passed away Thursday, October 8, 1998, at Heritage Nursing Center. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and sister and a member of Kidwell Ridge Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Saturday, 2:00 p.m. at Westside Chapel with Rev. Harold Noe and Rev. MILLER, WARD (SARGE), age 71, of 131 Thorpes Chapel Road, Rogersville, passed away Thursday, October 8, 1998, at his home after an extended battle with cancer. He was born on May 6, 1927, the son of Rudy E. and Othney Troyer Miller of Berlin, Ohio. He moved to Rogersville in 1970. He retired from the U.S.A.F. after 21 years of active service in 1970. He was a member of Berlin First Baptist Church, but attended Persia Baptist Church in Rogersville. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Owen Miller and a grandson, Derek Miller of Rogersville. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Anne Williamson Miller of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law Bob and Denise Miller of Morristown and Rudy and Becky Miller of Mosheim; four grandchildren, Kelly Tackett of Rogersville, Robbie, Kacey and Kerry Miller of Mosheim; one step-grandchild, Amy Green of Surgoinsville; one great-grandchild, Sierra Anne Tackett of Rogersville; one step great-grandchild Chelsea Perrigan of Surgoinsville; one brother and sister-in-law, Weldon and Hazel Miller of Berlin, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and one special niece, Sabria Collins of Nickelsville, Virginia and a host of friends who loved him dearly. MULLENS, ROBERT D., 71, of Morristown, passed away Friday, October 9, 1998, at his home. He was preceded in death by his father, Lindsay Mullens. Mr. Mullens was a partner in the family business, Adept Printing Co. He was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving with the SeaBees. He was of the Protestant faith. Survivors include his wife, Helen Mullens; mother, Mary Frances Coates, both of Morristown; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sharon Mullens; daughters, Mary Katherine Davidson of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Greta Jo Mullens of Tallahassee, Fla.; step-son, George Johnson of Indiana; step-daughters, Sharon Johnson of Virginia, and Cindy Sojka of Jupiter, Fla.; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. GREGG, FRED “POP”, age 75 of Morristown passed away Tuesday Oct. 20,1998 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. He was an Army veteran of WWII and a member of Lebanon Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Dave Crockett Gregg and Vioda Holt Gregg and brother Jackson Gregg. HELTON, DAVID C. age 83, of Morristown, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He was born April 5, 1915, to the late Alexander and Maggie Mae Helton. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William H. and Roy E. Helton; sister, Mary Alice Helton Skeen. He was of the Presbyterian faith and was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Eston Hopper, Roy Hopper and sister, Della Burchell. TRENT, RALPH OTIS, age 52, of Decatur, TN. passed away Wednesday October 21, 1998 at his home due to cancer. He was a truck driver and the former owner of Christina’s Steak House. A native of Sneedville he had lived in Decatur for about 11 years. He was a member of the Meigs Lodge No. 213 F & A.M., Athena Council No. 118., McMinn Chapter No. 74, Athens Commandory No. 34; a son of the late Dana Harmon and Lilly Pearl Jarvis Trent. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ulys Seal and Homer Seal. He was a member of Yellow Branch Baptist Church in Sneedville. ARTINO, TERRY ANN, 50, 157 Black Sheep Hollow Road, Sneedville, Tennessee, died at home on Thursday, October 29, after a long fight against cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Ben Artino, and her mother, Theresa Loparo Artino. She is survived by her husband, Daniel Howard; by her many aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom she remained in close contact; and by numerous friends throughout the country. She attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School and Bellevue High School in Bellevue, Ohio; Ohio Dominican College in Columbus, Ohio; and received her Master of Science degree from the University of Tennessee. She was a teacher at Clinch School in Hawkins County, where most recently she had taught third grade. A memorial service will be held at Shiloh Methodist Church in Eidson, on Thursday, November 5, at 7 p.m. Danny would like to extend a special thanks to the employees of Housecall Hospice of Morristown, who helped to make Terry’s final days a blessing, and encourages a donation to a local hospice in lieu of flowers. Preceded in death by her parents J.W. and Odiea Smith Broyles and her husband in 1993 Luther Burchell along with two sisters and three brothers. She was a member of Kidwells Ridge Baptist Church. He professed faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of Yellow Springs Baptist Church. He loved and worked in the outdoors. COX, M. WALTER, age 66, of Strawberry Plains, died at 1:37 p.m. Friday afternoon, October 30, 1998, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Zola Burchfield Cox. Mr. Cox was a graduate of Carson-Newman College and received his masters degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War and was a long-time employee of the Knox County School System and Ford Motor Company in Atlanta. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, David and Sheala Cox of Woodstock, Georgia; son, Timothy A. Cox of Pigeon Forge; grandchildren, Jenna Cox of Marietta, Georgia, Joey Cox of Rome, Georgia, and Tiffany Cox of Rome, Georgia; sister, Katherine Meredith of Powell; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. HAYES, JOSEPHINE M., age 72, of Morristown, passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 1998 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. She was a member of Phillipi Baptist Church.
