He was a member of Mooresburg Baptist Church; an Army veteran of World War II; a member of V.F.W. Post 5266 and retired from Morristown Lincoln Mercury. The son of the late James and Fannie Parris Davis and was preceded in death by sisters, Lizzie, Jessie, Cynthia and brothers, Will, John and Harve. Survivors: wife, Cleo; son, Greg Davis and wife Libby of Morristown; daughter, Karen Davis Boring and husband Michael of Gatlinburg; grandchildren, Angela King Faidley, Noelle Cottingim, Cory Cottingim, Heather Davis Southerland, Jeremiah Davis; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Katy; sister, Blanche Dalton; brother, Cedar Davis; several nieces and nephews. JONES, OSCAR, age 80, of Sneedville, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 1999 at the Claiborne County Hospital in Tazewell. He was a member of Mulberry Gap Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Retta Louthan Jones; son, Billy Jones; parents, Frank and Lula Jones; brothers, Charles, Davis and Olin Jones; sister, Dorothy Ramsey. GERVASI, CONETTO S. (CONNIE), age 83, of Morristown, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 1999 at Lakeway Regional Hospital. He was born March 7, 1915 in Manhattan, New York. Mr. Gervasi was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church; a faithful usher for seventeen years. He was a member of Knight’s of Columbus, No. 6730 and 4th Degree Bernard O’Connor Assembly; and was well known to many as a caller at the Knights’ Bingo Game at St. Patrick. The son of the late Salvadore and Rosario Gervasi, he was preceded in death by brothers, Paul and Rudolph Gervasi and sister, Sally Leonbruno. Survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ada L. Campbell Gervasi; sisters, Santa Virzi of NV., Josephine DeMarco, NY, and Ann Nixon of NY,; brother, James Gervasi of NV. GRAVES, SANDRA PARKER, 51, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at St. Mary’s Health System, Knoxville. Mrs. Graves was the wife of Ben Graves, owner of Ben’s Home Center, who survives her. She and her husband were married in Morristown in 1969. She was born in Grainger County on Oct. 10. 1947. Mrs. Graves was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Ladies of the Elks Auxiliary. She was a Baptist. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Eloise Maney Parker of Morristown; two brothers, Eddie Parker and Jay Parker, both of Morristown; and four sisters, Gloria Hibbard, Dawn Rogers and Debbie Courtney, all of Morristown, and Shadlene McBee of Whiteville. HENDERSON , BOBBY JOE, age 68, of Dandridge, passed away early Thursday morning, February 18, 1999, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville following an extended illness. Mr. Henderson was a lifelong member of the Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Annette Fine Henderson; parents, Thomas and Lula Cox Henderson; and several brothers and sisters. He was a retired employee of the Jefferson Farmers Cooperative and was a past member of the Board of Directors for the Jefferson County Farm Bureau. Survivors include his daughter, Lori Henderson of the home; brother, Vern Henderson of Knoxville; sister, Mary Nell Rector of Oak Ridge; several nieces and nephews. VIRGIN, JOHNNIE G (PURKEY)., 83, of Jacksonville, IL., passed away Wednesday, February 17, 1999 at Pittsfield Manor in Pittsfield, Illinois. A native of Morristown, TN., Ms. Virgin was the daughter of John L. and Ida C.. Goan Purkey. Ms. Virgin was preceded in death by brothers, Howard and Ralph (Mike) Purkey and sister, Gladys Purkey Long. She was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church and graduated from Morristown High School. Ms. Virgin worked as a nurse’s aid at the Jacksonville State Hospital before her retirement. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald B. and JoAnn Stubblefield, Ralph E. and Irene Stubblefield, Kenneth and Darlene Stubblefield; daughter, Mona Furlong, all of Jacksonville, IL.; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and J. CARTER, LEOTA BERNICE OWEN, born January 13, 1937, passed away February 20, 1999 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Manley Baptist Church and a life long resident of Morristown. Preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Marie Carter. HOLT, BRADLEY MICAH, 16, of 6237 Nightingale St. Morristown, went to be with Jesus Christ, his Savior, Saturday morning Feb. 20 at U.T. Medical Center, after suffering injuries from a car crash. He was student at Morristown Hamblen High School West. He attended Pleasant View Baptist Church. Brad leaves behind his devoted mother Elaine Holt of Morristown, father Steve Holt of Morristown, cherished sister Jamie Holt, grandparents; Dorothy Cameron and the late Harry Cameron of Rutledge; Virgie Edgar and the late Jim Holt of Morristown. He is survived by aunts and uncles; Olen and Darlene Cameron of White Pine; Bill and Mary Cameron of New Market; Leta Owens and Tony Mynatt of Rutledge; Jimmy and Donna Cameron; Faye and Alan Stallard of Talbott; Susie and Woody Harness of White Pine, and numerous cousins, friends and family members. HOPPER, CLEO BELLE, age 85, of Laurel Wood Apts., Morristown, passed away February 20, 1999 at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Morristown and retired from Standard Knitting Mills in Knoxville. Preceded in death by her parents, George and Maggie Hopper and niece, Robin Bruce Guinn. QUARLES, FOYE LEONARD, age 81, of the Mt. Horeb Community, Jefferson City, TN. passed away 10:45 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 1999 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville following a brief illness. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dandridge and was a prominent farmer and life-long resident of Jefferson County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Douglass Quarles, father Frank Quarles, sister Mary Ellen Hardy, and brothers, Wiley and Glenn Quarles. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law Doug and Maxine Quarles; granddaughter, Carri Quarles; mother, Mrs. Frank (Anna) Quarles; sisters: Mrs. Bill (Georgia) Myers, Mrs. John (Carolyn) Ellis and Mrs. Maurice (Wylene) Hatcher; brother Gerald Quarles; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. WELCH, MRS. BONNIE TURNER, age 88, of Dandridge, passed away suddenly at 7:12 p.m. Saturday evening, February 20, 1999 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Welch was a member of the French Broad Baptist Church at Oak Grove and was the widow of the late Hugh Welch. She was also preceded in death by her son, Billy Welch; a son-in-law, Kenneth “Krow” Goforth; and a granddaughter, Pam Welch Wilhite. Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. Mae Goforth of Dandridge and Mrs. Harry (Joan) Rowan of Sanford, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Carolyn Welch of Jefferson City; two granddaughters, Wendy Goforth of Dandridge and Tina Welch of Nashville; three greatgrandchildren, Angie Chesteen Kinkead of Kodak, Joe Chesteen of Morristown, and Joshua Clark of Nashville; and several special nieces and nephews. GRAY, JAMES SCOTT, age 83, died early Tuesday morning, Feb. 23, 1999, at the Life Care Center of Greeneville. Gray, a retired farmer, was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church and the Orebank-Greene Ruritan Club. He was the son of the late Samuel and Vivian Sauceman Gray and was preceded in death by five brothers, Harry, Elbert, Robert, Billy and Johnny Gray, and a grandson, Randell Sterling Keller. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nelle Hutton Gray; four daughters and three sons in law, Joan and Ted Carter of Mosheim, Shirley Hawk of Greeneville, Peggy and S. Lee Campbell of Morristown and Carolyn and Jack Goodman of Mosheim; four grandchildren, Robert Keller and spouse Jennifer, Richard Keller and spouse Latasha, Teresa Culp and spouse Dan; and Denesa Ford; two great-grandchildren, Emma Kesterson and Cureshia Ford; two step-great-grandchildren, Cline Allen Everhart and Bryan Everhart; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Ruth Gray of Mosheim, Hubert and Grace Gray of Mosheim and Don and Josie Gray of Greeneville; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Katherine Hutton of Greeneville, Anna Harriet and Robert Hutton of Greeneville, and Mary McCamey of Mosheim.; sister-in-law, Virgie Gray of Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.
