92 year old Alma H. Pedigo of McMinnville died Monday at NHC Healthcare Center of an extended illness. She was a homemaker, DeKalb County native, and a member of the Jesus Name Pentecostal Church. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of McMinnville Funeral Home. L.H. Benson will officiate and burial will be in the Ponder Cemetery in DeKalb County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ella Puckett Ponder. She is survived by her husband, Silas Pedigo of McMinnville. Two daughters and a son-in-law, Fay Pedigo and Irene and Lyle Cox all of McMinnville. Three sons and daughters-in-law, Royce and Marian Pedigo of Edwardsville, Illinois; Gene and Ruth Pedigo of Curran, Illinois; and Danny and Wanda Pedigo of Chattam, Illinois. A brother, Alex Ponder of Smithville. Sixteen grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral. McMinnville Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

William Jacquess Lemons

85 year old William Jacquess Lemons has died. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his wife, Ellie M. Lemons of Cookeville. A son, Phil Lemons of Enterprise, Alabama and a brother, Charles G. Lemons of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jerry Franklin Cripps

66 year old Jerry Franklin Cripps of Smithville died Thursday at Baptist DeKalb Hospital in Smithville. He was a carpenter for the M.B. Silcox Construction Company. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Leland Carden and Royce Moore will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. His parents were the late Johnny R. and Potter Lorin Cripps. He is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, James "Curley" and Chloe Cripps, Johnny and Shirley Cripps, Jr., and Gene and Brenda Cripps all of Smithville. Three sisters and brothers-in-law, Glen and Jeanette Dodson and M.B. and Judy Silcox all of Smithville, and John and Brenda Arledge of McMinnville. Nelson Clifton Griffin

74 year old Nelson Clifton Griffin of Wright Bend Road, Smithville or the Belk Community died Friday in McMinnville. He was retired from Magnetek Century and a member of the New Union The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the New Union Baptist Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Ollie Griffin; a sister, Loreda Griffin; a brother, Auburn Griffin; and a grandson, Steve Davis. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Hawkins Griffin of Smithville. Five daughters and four sons-in-law, Earlene and Dan Griffin of McMinnville; Maxine and Danny Davis of Hillsboro; Penny and David Hankal and Lori and Tim Wilcher of Rock Island, and Jo Nell Hall of Smithville. Seven grandchildren, Susan Kirkwood, Joseph Hall, Stephanie Hall, Taylor Hankal, Kirsten Hankal, Sara Wilcher, and Morgan Wilcher also survive. Grady Samuel Waggoner

63 year old Grady Samuel Waggoner of the Midway Community in Smithville died Thursday at Baptist DeKalb Hospital. He was a masonry worker and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Cleve Hitchcock and Jerry Moore will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Mary Young Waggoner; his step-mother, Beatrice Beshearse Waggoner; two brothers, Truman and Johnny Waggoner; and three sisters, Rebecca Hickman, Mary Lou Waggoner, and Katherine Waggoner. He is survived by his wife, Oneda Montgomery Waggoner. A daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and John Wright of Smithville. One son, Jerome Waggoner of Smithville. Two grandchildren, Olivia and Samuel Wright of Smithville. One brother, Joe Waggoner of Murfreesboro. Four sisters, Susie White of Smithville, Nellie Jones of McMinnville, Mozell Martin of Watertown, and Maureen Hickman of Nashville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. John Carlyle Klinger

86 year old John Carlyle Klinger died Thursday at N.H.C. Healthcare Center of Smithville of an extended illness.  He was a resident of Happy Valley Circle in Dowelltown, retired owner and editor of Oildon Publishing Company in New Jersey, and a member of the Dowelltown Methodist Church.  Walker Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  The family has chosen direct cremation, and there will be no visitation or service at the funeral home.   A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 3rd, at 1:00 p.m., at the Mount Holly Cemetery in Smithville.  Mr. Klinger was preceded in death by his wife, Johanne Marie Klinger, who passed away in 1994.  She was also cremated at the time of her death, and her ashes will be laid to rest alongside her husband.  Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Predmore of Smithville, and Carol Klinger of Dowelltown.  One Son, John Klinger of Hampton, New Jersey.  Nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive.  Walker Funeral Home of Smithville is in charge of the arrangements.  

Manuel Adcock

76 year old Brother Manuel Adcock of Smithville died Friday at Baptist DeKalb Hospital. He was a minister, a logger, and a member of the Mount Hope The Baptist Church. The body is at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. His parents were the late Otis and Bessie Lou Young Adcock. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jewell Adcock. He is survived by two daughters, Hilda Crass of Michigan and Jeanette Mabe of Smithville. Three sons, Stacey, Johnny, and Kennie Adcock all of Smithville. Nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Two sisters, Katie Adcock and Irene Turner both of Smithville. Five brothers, James, Ray, Franklin, and Albert Adcock all of Smithville and Mitchell Adcock of Liberty. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 85 year old Chloe Adcock Magness of Seven Springs Road in Smithville died Friday at her residence. She was a homemaker and she attended the Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Ricky Arnold will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Monroe and Nettie Mai Redmon Adcock; her husband, Lon Magness; two brothers, Ike and Zeb Adcock and two sisters, Willie Vaughn and Martha Copeland. She is survived by a step-son, Tom Magness of Rock Island. Two step-grandsons, Kenneth and Larry Magness of Smithville. Three step-great grandchildren, Kenderly Cripps and Nathan Magness both of Smithville, and Ryan Magness of Jamestown. One step-great great granddaughter, Chloe Mae Cripps of Smithville. Seven nephews, Jack and Joe Adcock and James Vaughn all Smithville, Jim Adcock of Readyville, Billy Adcock and Samuel Copeland both of Sparta. Nine nieces, Flora Mai Adcock, Marie Taylor, Nell Raymond, and Lena Jones all of Smithville, Donna Power of Brentwood, Brenda Officer, Sandra Bradley, and Phyllis Humphrey all of Sparta, and Marsha Huff of Livingston. Visitation will be Friday until 10:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral at 2:00 p.m.

John Mears

79 year old John Mears of Woodbury died at his home on Thursday of a short illness. He was a retired farmer, Cannon County native, World War II U.S. Army Veteran, and a member of the Mount Aarat Church of Christ. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home and burial will be in the Center Hill Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bradley Mears and Ida Bell Higgins Mears and a step-son, Charlie Mathis. He is survived by his wife, Nannie Bell Mears of Woodbury. A step-son, Robert Mathis of Woodbury. A step-daughter, Mazel Mathis of Woodbury. A brother, Clarence Mears of Woodbury. Four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Ona Cantrell

99 year old Ona Cantrell of Smithville died Saturday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mount View Primitive Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Paul Violet will officiate and burial will be in the Mount View Cemetery. Her parents were the late George and Perlie Adcock Young. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Lee Cantrell; and four step children, Arvil and J.W. Cantrell, Carmine Poss, and Nona Glenn. Nine sons, Morgan and John Cantrell both of McMinnville, Jewell Cantrell of Gallatin, and Than, Elmus, Doyce, Lewis, Prentice, and McClure all of Smithville. Four daughters, Nell Fly of Hendersonville, Joan Haralson of Lebanon, Hilda Corley of Tullahoma, and Janice Martin of Smithville. Two sisters, Lona Taylor and Zona Martin both of Smithville. Twenty six grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. John Martin Reynolds

John Martin Reynolds of Dowelltown died Monday evening at his home of an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Reynolds of Dowelltown. Clara F. Colwell

87 year old Clara F. Colwell of Smithville died Monday at Baptist DeKalb Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Brethren in Christ. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Larry Steffee and Trent Colwell will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Hessie Elkins Summers; her husband, Abe Colwell; five sisters, Martha Summers, Cora Williams, Betty Calhoun, Jean Caldwell, and Lorene Redmon; and one brother, Jack Summers. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and James Dunn of Smithville, Ella Rhea and Tommy Hale of Watertown, and Sandra and Roger Kirby of McMinnville. Two sons and daughters-in-law, Len and Brenda Colwell of Smithville and Austin and Gracie Colwell of Smithville. Ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. One sister, Hazel Emberton of Smithville and several nieces and nephews. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Dennis Ward McGinnis

77 year old Dennis Ward McGinnis of Ike Adcock Road in Smithville died Monday evening at his daughter's residence. The funeral arrangements and time of visitation are incomplete. A complete list of survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced later by DeKalb Funeral Chapel.

Vallie Rebekah Cantrell

93 year old Vallie Rebekah Cantrell of McMinnville died Monday at River Park Hospital of an extended illness. She was a DeKalb County native, a homemaker, and a member of the New Bybee's Chapel United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of McMinnville Funeral Home. Tim Lewis and Terry Watts will officiate and burial will be in the New Bybee's Chapel Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lachlan Cantrell; a daughter, Nadell Grissom; two sisters, Pauline Baumwart and Shellie Mayfield; and three brothers, James Arthur Martin, Grady Martin, and Harim Martin. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Melba and Arnold Watts of McMinnville and Nadean and Jimmy Taylor of Dowelltown. A sister, Eloise Massie of Amarillo, Texas. Five grandchildren, Terry Watts, Rhonda Newby, and Gayle Caldwell all of McMinnville, Tim Watts of Manchester, and Jan Taylor of Smithville. Six great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter also survives. The Cantrell family will receive friends Monday until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Linnie H. Fuson

99 year old Linnie H. Fuson of Knoxville died Saturday at St. Mary's Residential Hospice in Knoxville. She was a member of the Woodbine Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Nashville. A graveside service will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens weather permitting. If not then services will be held at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Eugene Thompson will officiate. She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Florence Brock Hooper; siblings, Vallie, Benton, and Dubbie (Judkins); her eldest son, Ralph Fuson, Sr.; and her husband, Lemuel Fuson. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Joan Fuson of Louisville, Kentucky; Jack and Ruth Fuson of Knoxville; nine grandchildren, Ralph Fuson, Jr.,  Sam Fuson, Jr.  Mark, Lonnie, Melissa, Keith, Kent, Dawn, and Brock Fuson; and three nieces, Idell Spann, Violet Fuson, and Eulaliah Vaughn. Robert D. "Bobby" Baker

68 year old Robert D. "Bobby" Baker of Alexandria died Saturday morning at Veterans Medical Center in Nashville. The body is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where the funeral will be Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. Jerry Smith will officiate and burial will be in Hillview Memorial Cemetery in Alexandria. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Ria Baker of Alexandria. A daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Donald Williams of Lebanon. The mother of his children, Tony Wills Baker of Alexandria. Ten grandchildren and a brother, Ray Baker of Detroit, Michigan. Henry Howard Hale

85 year old Henry Howard Hale of Chattanooga died Monday at his residence. He was a DeKalb County native, owner and operator of Hales Lawn Service & Landscaping Company until his retirement with over 30 years of service. He was an active member of the Maranatha Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for 20 years. He was a member of the Worley Lodge #601, F&AM, an honorary member of the Mountain City Lodge and the Brainerd Lodge. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Chattanooga Scottish Rite Society and a Shriner with the Alhambra Temple. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the Maranatha Baptist Church. Luther Eslinger, Billy Dean, and John Collins will officiate and entombment will be in the Lakewood Memory Gardens, South. His parents were the late Nola Ann Sauls and Tommy Hale. He was also preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Helen Murphy Hale. A daughter, Jeannette Hale Richey; sons and daughters-in-law, Dwayne and Donna Hale and Max and Lila Hale. Grandchildren, Lisa and Christian Bennett, Keith and Tracey Richey, Emily Hale, Amanda and Gabe Smith, Jennifer, Callie, Joy, Howard Hale, all of Chattanooga. Five great grandchildren also survive. Carl Raymond Phillips

79 year old Carl Raymond Phillips of Brush Creek died Saturday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Epiphany at 1500 Hickory Ridge Road, Lebanon, Anne McKinne Wolf and Bill Dalglish will officiate and burial will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Brush Creek Cemetery. The body is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where the family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. He is survived by his wife Mary Lois West Phillips. Three children and their spouses, Elizabeth Phillips and Michael Kokkoris of Knoxvillle, Ellen Phillips and Tim Lancaster of Kiowa, Colorado, and Nathan W. and Ann Cameron Phillips of Nashville. Six grandchildren, Eleanor and Margaret Phillips, Mary Ann and David Lancaster, Constantine and Alexandra Kokkoris. A brother and sister-in-law, Robert Doyle and Betty Phillips of Brush Creek.  The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Gordonsville Public Library in lieu of flowers at P.O. 80 year old Lois Ruth Miller of Smithville died early Saturday morning at Centennial Medical Center. She was a resident of Maple Court Village in Fairview, a retired secretary with Titanium Metals Corporation, she worked for Justin Potter Library in years past, she was an artist and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Jack Walters and James (Red) Miller and her parents, Samuel and Ethel Higgenbottom Allen. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Brent Burkett of Fairview. One step-daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Roger Poe of Ohio. One step-son, Ted Miller of Pennsylvania. 65 year old Buddy Parker of Smithville died Monday night at Baptist Hospital in Nashville of a short illness. He was the owner of Smithville Builder's Supply since 1962, director of the DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Army Veteran, member of the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, Smithville Alderman from 1974 to 1978, member of Liberty Lodge #77, member of the Smithville Jaycees, Past Chairman of the 911 Board, member of the Scottish Rite, and a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Don Davidson and Donald Owens will officiate and entombment will be at DeKalb Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. A Masonic Service will be held Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Samuel and Annie Bell Curtis Parker. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Parker of Smithville. A son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Joy Parker of Smithville. Three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sara Jane Parker, Sandy and Brent Russell, and Shelby and Joey Reeder all of Smithville. Five grandchildren, Chris and Erik Russell, Paige Reeder, Claire Garrett, and Katie Bell Parker. A sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Donald Owens of Lebanon. 71 year old Ed Carson McCulloch of West Main Street, Alexandria died at his home Sunday. McCulloch formerly operated Thorne-McCulloch Auto Sales. He was born in Wilson County and he was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Donald Owens will officiate and burial will be in the Flatwood Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Sullivan McCulloch and Lena Bond McCulloch; a brother, Benny McCulloch; and a son, Jackie Grandstaff. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Garrison McCulloch. Two sons and daughters-in-law, John Edward and Darlene McCulloch of Lebanon and Phillip and Alice McCulloch of Florida. 67 year old Mary Donavee Harris Puckett of Peeled Chestnut Lane, Sparta died Monday morning at White County Hospital.
