Reba Ethel Talley, 88, of Newport, died Tuesday, January 4 at the Mariner Health Care of Newport.
She was a member of the Church of the Latter-Day Saints in Morristown.
She is survived by her niece, Eliza Lola Mavrose of Bybee; and one great-niece.
The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Helm Sexton and Elder Mack Talley officiating, with burial graveside at 10 a.m. Friday at Liberty Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the funeral, at Manes Funeral Home.

Azeline Kittrell, 67, of Newport, passed away Wednesday morning at her home following a short illness.
She is survived by her husband, Basil S. Kittrell Sr. of Newport; and a son, Basil S. Kittrell Jr. of Greeneville.
Graveside service was 10 a.m. Thursday at the Chestnut Hill Cemetery with Rev. Harold Mills officiating.

Martha F. Laws, 85, of Newport, passed away Tuesday evening at the U.T. Hospital, Knoxville, following a brief illness.
She had taught school in the Cocke County School System at Blackís, Hartford, and Ravenís Branch elementary schools. She worked for Human Services before her retirement in 1975.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Creed Laws; son, Jimmy Laws; parents, James and Alice Freeman; and a brother, Wilbur Freeman.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Laws, and his wife, Carolyn; daughter and son-in-law, Florine Stinnett and her husband, Cleo, all of Newport; grandchildren, Rhonda Brooks and her husband, Jeff, Susan Laws, and Marc Stinnett and his wife, Cynthia; great-grandchild, Ashtyn Brooks, all of Newport; and niece, Fonda Freeman Williamson of Clyde, North Carolina.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Brown Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ransom Hall and Rev. Ed Hardison officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday evening at the Brown Funeral Home.

Junie Beatrice Fox, 96, of Newport, passed away January 6 at Baptist Convalescent Center.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Gospel Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Fox; and two infant sons.
Survivors: several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 8, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m., at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.

Daniel Mayfield, age 26, of Newport, died Thursday, January 6.
He is survived by his parents, Jack and Ruby Mayfield; brothers, Jack Mayfield Jr. and Richard T. Mayfield; and sister, Wilma Van Stratum, all of Newport; and several nieces, nephews and special friends.

McCellon Dale Shelton

McClellon "Dale" Shelton, 74, of Greenville, South Carolina, formerly a resident of Newport, died Friday, January 7.
Born in Newport, he was the son of the late Robert W. and Ella Burgess Shelton.
He was a retired cabinet maker and car dealer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vencie Bishop Shelton; four brothers; and one sister.
Surviving are his daughters, Linda Harris and Betty Robinson of Greenville, South Carolina; sons, Jerry Shelton of Easley, South Carolina, and Charles Shelton of Greenville, South Carolina; brothers, Bob and Arthur Shelton of Newport; sisters, Myrtle Gentry, Edith Merrill and Evelyn Hopkins of Greenville, South Carolina; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held on Monday, January 10, at 2 p.m., in Greenville, South Carolina, with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Bobby Thurman Dockery, 62, of Sevierville, died Saturday, at Sevier Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Daisy Dockery; and sister, Hazel Loy.
Survivors: sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Audrey Dockery and Timothy and Pamela Dockery; daughter, Sherri Epperson; eight grandchildren; father, Austin Dockery; brothers, Claude Dockery and Mack Dockery; and sister, Betty Henderson.
Funeral service was 7 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Rev. Curtis Wells officiated. Interment will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Birchfield Memorial Cemetery.

Dorothy Nile Lindsey

Dorothy Nile Lindsey, 71, passed away Friday morning at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County following a brief illness.
She was a member of the Newport Presbyterian Church. Nile had retired from the Cocke County School System in 1991.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Lindsey.
Survivors include her children, Danny Lindsey and his wife, Cindy, of Newport, Cathy Snapp and her husband, Gregg, of Kingsport, Teresa Robertson and her husband, Jimmy, of Newport; step-children, Jimmy Lindsey and his wife, Pat and Carolyn Lindsey and her husband, Ronald, all of Newport; sister, Tanzella Ryan, of Concord, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at the Newport Presbyterian Church with Rev. Yale Gunn officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment following the service in the Union Cemetery.

Jessie Bible, 85, of Bybee, passed away Monday afternoon, January 10, at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County following a lingering illness.
Mrs. Bible was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Lodge #461 of Newport for 35 years.
Mrs. Bible was preceded in death by parents, Lee and Jim Henry; husbands, J.E. Rader, Shade Wise and Glen Bible; sister, Stella (Tootse) Barger; brothers, Bill and Sam Henry; and special brother-in-law, Joe Fowler.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Von Smith, with whom she made her home for 40 years, and Emma and Jim Hill of Newport; grandchildren and spouses are Michael and Sherrie Smith, Gray and Janie Hurley, Ronnie Hurley, Larry and Carol Hurley, Marsha and Connie Ball, and Jeffery Hurley, all of Newport; great-grandchildren are Trevor and Kreg Smith, Louanna Ottinger, Tommy Hurley, Eric Hurley, Nancy and Sara Hurley, and Amy and C.J. Ball, all of Newport; devoted sisters, Mable Fowler of Parrottsville, Virginia and Hubert Jenkins of Newport, and Josephine Emmitt of Gastonia, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews; a special friend and doctor, David Kickliter; and special nurses of SMHH, Cheryl Hartsell and Pat Hurley.
Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Manes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Walker and Rev. Ed Frazier officiating.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Clay Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. followed by services by the Order of Eastern Star and Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Doris S. Green, 82, of Del Rio, passed away Sunday morning at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was a member of the Grassy Fork Church of Christ.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Silas and Nancy Sparks; daughter, Eula Wilson; brothers, Frank and George Martin Sparks; a sister, Manota Claiborn; and a grandson, Tony Barnett.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth Green, and his wife, Alma, of Newport; Johnny Green and his wife, Gayle, of Cosby; Betty Sue Jones, and her husband, Mike, of Hartford; Aurine Barnett and her husband, Ray, Jeraldine Green, George Green and his wife, Alene, Brenda Wilburn and her husband, J.D., Joann Wilburn and her husband, Troy, and Dale Green, all of Del Rio; son-in-law, Henry Wilson of Elyria, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; special friend, Marty Shropshire of Newport; and special cousins, A.L. and Sara Sparks of Lithonia, Georgia.

Roy Holt, 88, of Newport, passed away Sunday morning at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was employed at Bennington Pine for 25 years before his retirement in 1975.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Frisbee Holt, of Newport; children, John Willie Holt and his wife, Peggy, Louise Joyce, Eunavee Dotson, Josephine Ellison and her husband, Glenn, Robert Holt and his wife, Linda, and Edna Mae Driskill and her husband, Bill, all of Newport; sister, Mildred Holt of Newport; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was 2 p.m. Monday at the Union Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Joyce officiating.

Elaine Ball Herring, 39, of Strong, Arkansas, formerly of White Pine, passed away January 11 after a brief illness.
She was public relations director for Herring Furniture in Strong, Arkansas, and was formerly employed with South Arkansas Eye Cline.
She was a director for the Union County Cancer Society and a member of the First Baptist Church in Strong, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Ball.
Survived by her husband, Phill Herring, four daughters and sons-in-law, Lindsey T. Thurman, both of Strong, Arkansas, Chasity and Darby Brighton of Little Rock, Arkansas, Amber and Rush Cornwell of Dardanelle, Arkansas, and Lindsey Brook Herring of Hot Springs, Arkansas; mother, Mrs. Dorothy Ball of White Pine; sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene Ball of White Pine, Betty and Rodney Riddlebarger and Kathy and John Rogers, both of Morristown; and nieces and nephew, Pam Collins, Jennifer and Amanda Rodgers, and Rod Riddlebarger, all of Morristown. Mary Jenkins

Mary Jenkins was born June 11, 1926, in Newport, to Will Haney and Ollie Swagerty. She had been a resident of Lansing, Michigan, since 1963.
She was a retiree of General Motors and a member of Life Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and five brothers.
Our beloved Mary went home to be with the Lord January 12, 2000. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Guy; daughters, Sandra (Harold) Grace, Iona (Eddie) Jackson, Virginia (Samuel) Hall, and Felicia Jenkins, all of Lansing, Michigan, and Mary (Robert) Latten of Los Angeles, California; sons, Guy, Jr., Tony, Sr., Aaron (Rose) and Freddie Jenkins, all of Lansing, Michigan; 27 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Haney of Lansing, Michigan; sister, Georgia Dykes of Newport; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

Eloise Jarrell Myers

L. Eloise (Jarrell) Myers, 74, of Anderson, Indiana, died January 11 at home.
She was born in Anderson, Indiana, on April 27, 1925.
She was a life-long Anderson, Indiana, resident.
She was a clerk for Kroger briefiy and a dedicated homemaker.
She was a graduate of Anderson High School, class of 1943; a member of Ivy Rebekah Lodge, where she was a past Noble Grand; and a member of Royal Neighbors of America.
She married Robert W. Myers on February 6, 1949, in Anderson, Indiana.
Survivors: husband of over 50 years, Robert W. "Bob" Myers of Anderson, Indiana; three daughters and one son-in-law, Christi and Dave Pitel of Anderson, Indiana, Jill Marie Myers of Gilbert, Arizona, and Rhonda E. Myers of Anderson, Indiana; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Ginger Myers of Anderson, Indiana; brother and sister-in-law, Hubert Ronald and Pat Jarrell of Alexandria, Indiana; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Frances and Howard Wise of Elwood, Indiana; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Snyder, Lone Oak Wesleyan Church, Anderson, Indiana. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Cemetery.

Dewey Franklin Adams, 79, of Newport, born April 20, 1920, passed away at the V.A. Hospital in Johnson City.
He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Ruthie Adams; six brothers; and granddaughters, Carol Adams, Frankie Adams, and Delana Adams.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Adams; sister, Dorthy Collins; sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Delois Adams, Roger and Sheila Adams, Ralph Adams, and Dewey Adams; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Fred Pace and Mary and Tommy Sutton; grandchildren, Brent and Candis Adams, Kristi and Herbie Frazier, Michael Adams, and Rodney Adams; step-grandchildren, Crystal Pace and Wendy and Joe Owensby; great-grandchildren, Isaac Adams and Allison Frazier; and also several nieces and nephews.

James Burl Kerley

James Burl Kerley, 59, of 2036 Port Weybridge, Newport Beach, California, died Wednesday morning, January 12.
He attended Cocke County schools, was a graduate of the US Air Force Academy, and served as a Naval Aviator in the Vietnam War. Burl was retired as a pilot with United Airlines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Ellen Kerley.
He is survived by his wife, Terry Kerley; two daughters, Kristine Knott of R.S. Margarita, California, and Michelle Mims of Aliso Viejo, California; two brothers, John Kerley of Newport and Marvin Kerley of Cosby; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Pacific View Memorial Park, Newport Beach, California.

Jo Ann Moore

Jo Ann Moore, 61, of Newport, passed away Thursday evening following a lengthy illness.
She attended the Stokely Chapel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.D. Moore; parents, Burn and Burr Leatherwood; sister, Agnes Hannah; and brothers, Everett and Jim Leatherwood.
She is survived by her children, Richard D. and Michael Moore, both of Newport; sisters, Lena Price and her husband, Varnel, of Monroeville, New Jersey, Vera Mull and her husband, Ray of Newport, Reva Gray of Mt. Sterling, North Carolina, and Jenny Presnell and her husband, Kenneth of Waynesville, North Carolina; brother, Warren Leatherwood and his wife, Gladys of Mullica Hills, New Jersey; and grandchildren, Georgia Leann and Kyle Keith Moore, both of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Funeral was 2 p.m. Sunday at the Brown Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bobby Napier officiating. Interment was in the Moore Cemetery.

Theda Robinson
Died: 01/12/2000
T.G. "Theda" Robinson, 82, of Millersburg, Ohio, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, died Wednesday morning, January 12, at the Scenic View Nursing Home following an extended illness.
She was born on February 2, 1917, in Newport, and was the daughter of Dooley and Daisy May (Myers) Maddron. She married William Tilden Robinson and he preceded her in death on June 12, 1964.
Surviving are three children, Jimmy Myers Robinson of Bristol, and Dooley Jack Robinson and Deborah Val Robinson, both of Cleveland, Ohio; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a niece, Jane (Myers) Quick of Toronto, Canada; and several great-nieces and also several great-great-nieces as well as several great-great-nephews.
Graveside services will be Saturday afternoon at the Union Cemetery in Newport. There will be no calling hours.

Walter L. (W.L.) Kelley, 66, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, January 12, at a Knoxville hospital after a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mae Kelley; and two brothers, G.C. and Ralph Kelley, all of White Pine.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Kelley of Newport; one daughter, Karen Kiser of Newport; and one son, Ricky Kelley of Newport.
He is also survived by five grandchildren. They are Josh, Jessica and Jason Kelley of Sevierville and Miranda and Benjamin James of Newport; also one great-grandson, Tristen Lovell; and mother-in-law, Mrs. Mack (Ola) Strange of Newport.
He is also survived by two sisters, Brenda of Knoxville and Elizabeth, formerly of White Pine; and two brothers, Harold of Morristown, and Billy Don, formerly of White Pine.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, George Ray and Mildred Nease of Parrottsville; daughter and son-in-law, Eva and George Shaw of Greeneville; grandchildren, Ronnie and Karen Nease, Sherry and Bill Cook, Amy Shaw, Danny and Debbie Shaw, Bobby and Mary Nease, Carolyn Nease, Jimmy and Kim Nease, and Gary Nease; great-grandchildren, Crystal Cook, Nathan Nease, Megan Nease, Sydney Nease, Carly, Jenna, Caleb, and Ayden Shaw, Danny Nease, Penny Ledford, Jeffery Nease, Shelly, Amy and Katie Nease, Crystal Turner, Angie Nease, and Josh Nease; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Lenton Nease of Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Salem Lutheran Church with Dr. Peter Setzer and Rev. Claude Villemaire officiating. The body will lie in state from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the funeral, with burial in the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Mary Jenkins

Mary Jenkins was born June 11, 1926, in Newport, to Will Haney and Ollie Swagerty. She had been a resident of Lansing, Michigan, since 1963.
She was a retiree of General Motors and a member of Life Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and five brothers.
Our beloved Mary went home to be with the Lord January 12, 2000. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Guy; daughters, Sandra (Harold) Grace, Iona (Eddie) Jackson, Virginia (Samuel) Hall, and Felicia Jenkins, all of Lansing, Michigan, and Mary (Robert) Latten of Los Angeles, California; sons, Guy, Jr., Tony, Sr., Aaron (Rose) and Freddie Jenkins, all of Lansing, Michigan; 27 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Haney of Lansing, Michigan; sister, Georgia Dykes of Newport; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

Wanda Gail Lane
Died: 01/18/2000
Mrs. Wanda Gail Kendall Lane, 50, of Sevierville, passed away Tuesday morning, January 18, at her home.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mattie Martin Lindsey; and father, John Edward Kendall.
Survivors: husband, Robert E. Lane of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and David Ramsey of Cosby; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Shellie Bowman of Cosby; grandchildren, Isabella Ramsey and Dallas Hayes, both of Cosby; and stepfather, Rufus Lindsey of Cosby. Additional survivors include two brothers; one sister; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 21, at the Costner-Maloy Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fred Gregg officiating. Interment will be in Hills Union Cemetery.

James Joker Williams

James Leon (Joker) Williams, 94, of Dandridge, died Wednesday, January 19, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Annetta and Bud Crumbley of Dandridge; son and daughter-in-law, J.C. and Betty Williams of Newport; daughter-in-law, Emma Williams; brothers, Will Williams Jr. of Dandridge, Charles Williams of Newport, and John Alfred Williams of Bybee; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Henderson and Rev. Gary Gass officiating, with burial at 11 a.m. Friday in Swannsylvania Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral.

Esther Holt Hooper
Died: 01/22/2000
Esther Holt Hooper, of Newport, passed away Thursday, January 20, at Mariner Nursing Home in Newport.
She was born on October 23, 1914, in Wachula, Florida. Esther was the daughter of the late Bruce Alexander and Mamie Gladys Henry Holt. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lois Holt; and brother, Leon A. Holt.
Esther was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newport, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for small children. She was a member of the Newport Garden Club and Bridge Club.
She is survived by her husband, Lemuel W. "Tige" Hooper of Newport; her daughter, Dorothy Jo Hooper Ellison and husband, Richard Ray Ellison of Cherryville, North Carolina; her son, Judge Ben W. Hooper II and wife, Patsy Mason Hooper of Newport; her sister, Launa Holt Pace of Newport; her brother, Russell L. Holt and wife, Anna Bell Holt of Maryville; her brother, Elmer E. Holt and his wife, Myrtle Holt of Spartanburg, South Carolina; and sister-in-law, Gona Dorsey Holt of Newport.
Esther is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren are David B. Marks and wife, Lisa, of Durham, North Carolina; Kenneth H. Marks and wife, Kathleen, of Raleigh, North Carolina; Elizabeth M. Gordon and husband, Jim, of Littleton, Colorado; Cathy E. Boccardo, of Webster, New York; Kay E. Spinks, Laura E. Caskey, and Renee E. Hamrick of Cherryville, North Carolina; Ben W. Hooper III and wife, Lucy Hooper, Newport; Lauren H. Sartain, of Dandridge; Julie H. Kyker and husband, Michael Kyker, of Newport; and Esther "Macy" Hooper, of Newport.
The family will receive family and friends at Manes Funeral Home in Newport from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 21. A graveside service will be held Saturday, January 22, at 10 a.m., at Union Cemetery.
