Catharine Inez Isaacs
Died: 05/21/1998
Catharine Margaret Inez Watkins Isaacs, 99, of Newport, died Thursday at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County following several months of declining health.
She was born May 27, 1898; she was six days from her 100th birthday.
She was a member of English Creek Baptist Church.
She was a graduate of Meredith College.
She is survived by her sons, Fred W. Isaacs and his wife, Edith Isaacs, George W. Isaacs, and Richard F. Isaacs and his wife, Sarah D. Isaacs; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned at the family plot at Burchwood Cemetery in Roxboro, North Carolina, at a date yet to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to English Creek Baptist Church, 2166 Bogard Road, c/o Rev. Steve Smith, Newport, TN 37821.

Patton A. Reece, 90, passed away Wednesday evening at the Baptist Convalescent Center following a short illness. He was a member of the Deep Gap Baptist Church. Patton was a retired farmer and carpenter.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Toy Reece. Survivors include his wife, Viola Messer Reece, of Del Rio; daughters and sons-in-law, Ovella and Lee Willis, of Newport; Ila and Roy Cagle, of Knoxville; Reva and Arnold Williamson, of Petersburg, Virginia, Eunice and Junior Lowe, of Aiken, South Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Everett and Alma Lee, of Hopewell, Virginia; sister, Hattie Carlisle, of Del Rio; brothers, Toy Reece and wife Thelma, of Newport, and Richard Reece and wife Edith, of Del Rio; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; special nephew, Jimmy Reece and his wife, Beverly, of North Augusta, Georgia.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Haney and Rev. Frank Hux officiating. Interment will be in the Clark Cemetery in Del Rio.

NELLIE HANEY HORNE July 2, 1998 York, SC Nellie Haney Horne, 70, of York, SC, born on September 12, 1927 in Newport, died Thursday, July 2, at home.
Mrs. Horne was a charter member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, in Lake Wylie, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Garner Haney and Nancy Ellison Haney. Survivors include her husband, Howard E. Horne, of the home; one son, Ernest Hoyt Horne, of York, SC; one daughter, Vonda H. Wallace, of York, SC; one brother, James E. Haney, of York, SC; one sister, Polly H. Sanders, of Rock Hill, SC; and one grandson, Justin E. Horne, of York, SC.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 4, at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Lake Wylie, SC, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Bryant. Interment will be in Mill Creek Church of the Brethren, Tryon, NC.

Ethel Mae Carmichael, 65, of Newport, died Saturday afternoon at the Mariner Health Care Center. She was a member of the Nina Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Carmichael; parents, Fred and Faye Hall Chapman; and brothers, Walter C. Chapman, Rev. Artie Ray Chapman, and Jess Chapman.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Ann Glass of Kingsport; sons, William Earl Glass of Rogersville, and Frankie Carmichael of White Pine; brothers, Hubert Chapman of Newport, John Chapman of Morristown, and Fred Stoke Chapman of Richmond, Washington; sisters, Mary Nell Livesay of Morristown, Judy Manis of Mosheim, Alice Jarnigan of Morristown, and Margie Gunter of Vidor, Texas; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

Died: 07/04/1998
Ida Mae Hefner, 92, died Saturday at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County following a lengthy illness. She was a member of the Newport Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Hefner.
Survivors include her children, Howard E. Hefner and his wife, Linda, Robert Hefner and his wife, June, Lucille Holt, and Ruth Cline, all of Newport; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Brown Funeral Chapel with Rev. Norman Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery.

Jimmy Michael Ogle

Jimmy Michael Ogle, 36, of Hartford, died July 3 at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County.
Mr. Ogle was born September 21, 1961.
He was employed at Great Lakes.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Ogle; brother, Hal Ogle; and grandparents, Lawrence Ramsey, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Davis, and Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Ogle.
Survivors: son, Nolan Ogle of Sevierville; sisters, Vonda McGaha and Ronda Freeman, both of Newport, and Nancy Denton of Dandridge; and mother, Lois Ogle of Hartford. Additional survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and a special great-aunt, Margaret Brown.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 6, at the Costner-Maloy Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Frank Bell officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery.
Gene Phillips, Sven McGaha, Steve Moore, Jimmy Bice, Kenneth Ford, and Chester Rollins will serve as pallbearers.

Addie Louise Benson, 79, of Newport, died Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County.
She was a volunteer at Mariner Health Care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roby Benson; parents, Tooney and Zilla Hance Scott; brother, Clarence Scott; stepson, Warren B. Benson; and niece, Brenda R. Strange.
She is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Phillips, Eunice and Bill Bowling, Mary Kirkland, and Fannie and Roy Cameron, all of Newport; foster sister, Nancy Ball of Newport; brother and sister-in-law, John C. and Joan Scott of Newport; stepson, William B. Benson of North Carolina; stepdaughter, Ruby Benson George of New Jersey; step-granddaughters, Marsha Dockery and Sherry Benson; special grandson, Scott Cameron; special friend, Brenda McMahan of Newport; also a host of nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Manes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. J.D. Sisk and the Rev. Joe Bible officiating. Burial will be in the Open Door Cemetery.

Herchell S. Cline
Died: 07/08/1998
Family members and friends are saddened at the loss of Herchell S. Cline, who died suddenly at 2:30 p.m. on July 6 in Newport.
He was a lifetime native of Cocke County, who was well known and liked by everyone because of his friendly personality and his kindness.
He was a farmer most of his life, working hard to care for his wife and nine children.
Mr. Cline was preceded in death by his parents, Lindia Elizabeth Ellison and Jack Cline; his wife, Eara Roe Edith Talley Cline; brothers, Jim and Roe Cline; and a sister, Daisy Marshall.
Survivors include his children, Jack Cline and wife, Mary, Joe Cline, and Bill Cline, all of Cleveland, Ohio, Ruth McCaffrey of Knoxville, June and husband, Bob Hefner, Lorene Ellis, Ruby and husband, Ralph Perryman, and Nancy and husband, Donald (Short) Haun, all of Newport, and Betty Cline of Morristown; sister, Ollie and husband, Gene Deramus of Morristown; and a special grandson, James Ellis of Newport. He was blessed with 16 other grandchilden and sev eral great-grandchildren and many friends that knew him as "Shorty" or "Cowboy."
Funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Chapel with Dr. Frank Bell officiating.
Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Union Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Pack, Dandridge; son and daughter-in-law, Cuba and Ellen Pack of Newport; daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Randy Jones, Newport, Joann Holder, Ohio, and Roseanna and Randall Centers, Sevierville; stepchildren, Howard Pack, Newport, and Anita Windbigler and Holly Pack of Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Manes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Fred Gregg officiating. As requested by Mrs. Pack, she was cremated after the funeral.

Monroe Teague, 76, of Del Rio, died Wednesday, July 8, at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County.
He was a member of the Mannings Chapel Baptist Church; a veteran of the U.S. Army; and was retired from Quaker Oats, Newport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Smith and Carrie Teague; grandson, Brock Smith Teague; and sisters, Anna Teague, Eula Parks, Ottie Allen, Margaret Teague, Georgia Raines, Dorothy Freshour, and Frances Cody.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Teague, Del Rio; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Karen Teague of Newport; daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Jerry McCurry, Newport, and Donna and Chris Wood, Dandridge; grandchildren, Shane and Sharon Barger, Heather Barger, Ryan and Kyle Wood, and Jennifer Teague; sisters, Inez Hazelwood and Lenora Allen, both of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Manes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ransom Hall officiating. Burial was at 10 a.m. Friday in Union Cemetery.

Carrie Lou Burgess, 79, of Newport, died Saturday afternoon after a lengthy illness.
She is survived by her son, Clyde Burgess, of Newport; and grandchildren, Clyde, Ricky, and Patricia Burgess, all of Newport, and Timmy Burgess of Lincolnton, North Carolina.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Randy Funderbunk and Manson Lee officiating, with burial following in the Burgess Cemetery.

Gordon Hall, 84, passed away Friday at the Mariner Health Care Center.
He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his children, Valerie and her husband, John Hembree, Judy Clevenger, and Gordon (Skip) and his wife, Sheryl Clevenger, all of Newport; grandchildren, Bill Gorrell, Ellen Gorrell, Jim and his wife, Angie Hembree, and Atlas and his wife, Cara Hembree, all of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Inman Cemetery with Rev. Junior Loveday officiating.

Morristown Lucille Neas Holt, 91, of Morristown, died July 10 at Heritage Center.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Holt; parents, Albert and Ada Neas; brother, Hugh Neas; and sister, Aurene Ottinger.
Survivors: adopted son, James Ronald Holt of Georgia; brother, Joe Neas of Greeneville; sister, Lady Kilgore of Parrottsville; several nieces and nephews; and very dear friends, Rose Fowler and Leroy and Jane Self.
Services were 2 p.m. Sunday at Mayes Mortuary with Rev. Randy Davis officiating. Burial was in Jarnagin Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Pruitt, of Newport; daughters, Cawella Pruitt and Endia Pruitt of Newport; sons and daughter-in-law, Tony and Heather Pruitt of Newport and Lamar Pruitt of Newport; sister, Charlene Thomas of Newport; brother, Ronnie Haney; father, Robert Haney; grandchildren, Sherena, Alexis, Savana, and Deantea Pruitt, all of Newport; aunts, Cindy Ison, Ollie Mills, Geneva Wallace, and Cleo Wilson, all of Morristown, and May Thompson of Portland, Virginia; and uncle, Jim Thompson of Portland, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Willie J. Hall and Charles Owensby officiating. Interment will follow the services in the Russellville Cemetery.

Pauline White Cagle, 78, of White Pine, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at her home after a short illness. She was the widow of Bernie H. Cagle Sr. She was the daughter of the late Jason and Rilda Smith White. She was a member of Leadvale Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Jason Cagle; a grandson, Mark Cagle; and a brother, Wade White. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Phil Snodgrass of White Pine; sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Bernie and Faye Cagle Jr. of Warrensburg, and Kenneth R. and Flora Cagle and Ed and Libby Cagle; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Cagle, all of White Pine; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Verlin White of Canton, North Carolina; sister, Edith Garrison of Orange Park, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Leadvale Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Robison officiating.

Mrs. Margaret Earl Dean passed away Monday evening in Newport at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jim (Betty) Robinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Leonard Dean.
She is survived by one other child, John Dean, of Kosciusko, Mississippi; granddaughter, Meg, and her husband, Bill King, of Knoxville; grandson, Johnny, and his wife, Sandy Dean, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kyle King of Knoxville and Christopher and Jennifer Dean of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cleveland Cemetery in Cleveland, Mississippi, with the Rev. Bell officiating.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Nowell Funeral Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi.

Polly Woods Ownsby, 95, of Newport, passed away Monday evening at her home following a lengthy illness.
She was a member of the True Light Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Ownsby; five children; two sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include daughters, Katherine Carmichael and Ada B. Robinson; sisters, Alice Stewart and Matilda Hatcher, all of Newport; a devoted daughter-in-law, Stella Ownsby of Newport; and a niece and several nephews. Polly was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the True Light Holiness Church with Rev. Willie J. Hall and Rev. Billy Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Gum Springs Union Cemetery.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Gene and Grace Rice of Bybee and Flara Ann Shelton and the late Joe Shelton of Bybee; great-grandmothers, Zora Hensley of Newport and Betty Hartsell of Bybee; great-great-grandmother, Lucille Hartsell of Bybee; aunts and uncles, Krista Henry of Bybee, Jodie and Dave Stepp of Bybee, and Joe and Wendy Shelton of Bybee; and godfather, Mike Roth, Bybee.

Holland Lonzo Green, 77, of Del Rio, passed away Thursday morning at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was a member of the First Church of God in Del Rio and a veteran of World War II.
Holland retired from the Quaker Oats Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. and Margaret Cole Green; and a brother, Woodrow Green.
He is survived by his wife, Vestoria Moore Green of Del Rio; children, Ronald and his wife, Margaret Green of Del Rio, Margaret and her husband, Arvin Willis of White Pine, and Curtis Green and Terry and his wife, Carol Green, all of Newport; sister, Cora Mae Gibson of Greeneville; brother, R.L. Green of Del Rio; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Church of God in Del Rio with Pastor Robert Ashley officiating. The body will lie in state from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment will be in the Moore Cemetery in Spicewood Flats.

Thomas Richard Lane, 54, of Newport, died suddenly Thursday of injuries received in an automobile accident.
He had worked for Roadway Express for 25 years.
He is survived by three children, Chuck Lane, John Lane and Stacy Fine, all of Newport; four grandchildren, Meaghan Lane, Kyle Lane, Brandon Lane, and Joshton Fine, all of Newport; mother, Alma Lane, Newport; sisters, Mable Hightower of Newport and Fannie Folsom of Morristown; and brothers, Earl B. Lane and Hubert Lane, both of Newport.

Dennis Eugene Nabors, 46, of Newport, died Wednesday afternoon as the result of an auto accident.
He was a member of the West End Baptist Church and a member of the Newport Rescue Squad.
He is survived by his wife, Susan W. Nabors of Newport; son, Mark Nabors of Newport; mother and stepfather, Lucille and Jimmy Hill of Newport; and sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Don Wilson of Crossville. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the West End Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Gorrell officiating.

Faye Bumgarner, 60, passed away suddenly at her home Thursday in Selma, Alabama following an apparent heart attack.
Survivors include her husband, J.W. Bumgarner, of Selma, Alabama; her children, Doris and her husband, Wayne Bradshaw, of Flint, MI, Jerry and his wife, Becky Denton, of White Lake, MI, Kimberly and her husband, Ken Houser, of Knoxville, and Donna and her husband, Clay Carmichael, of Morristown; sisters, Elizabeth Spoone and Louise Parks, of Newport, and Joyce Mantooth, of Cleveland, OH; brother, Don Bumgarner; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Noah Manos.
She is survived by her daughters, Oleta Gregg, Ruth Shelton, Pattie McFarland, and Kathy Durham, all of Newport; Margie Shelton, of Leicester, NC; Wanda Barnes, of Candler, NC; sons, Geter Manos, of Leicester, NC, and Jack Manos, Handy Manos, and Gene Manos, all of Newport; brother, John Parton, of Del Rio; 86 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, July 21 and Wednesday evening, July 22 at the family home on 145 Church Street.
The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 23, at Meadow Fork Cemetery in Hot Springs, NC with Rev. Jay Greene officiating. Interment will also be in the Meadow Fork Cemetery.

Blanche Cooper Everhart, 90, of Heritage Center, formerly of Mohawk, passed away July 22, at Heritage Center in Morristown.
She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kyle Everhart; parents Walter and Gertrude Cooper; and brother, Max Cooper.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Don Bible, of Mohawk and Margaret and Jack Renner, of Mohawk; grandson and wife, Ron and Angela Renner, of Woodstock, Georgia; granddaughter and husband, John and Jean Anne Dugger, of Mohawk; great-grandson, Kyle Renner, of Woodstock, Georgia; nephew, Johnny Cooper, of Mohawk; and niece, Janice Baker, of Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at Mayes Mortuary with Rev. Jim Turner and Rev. George Johnson officiating. Graveside entombment services will be held Friday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at Jarnagin Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. prior to services at Mayes Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Ron Renner, John Dugger, Johnny Cooper, Kenneth Robinette, J.L. Gardner, and Rex Harmon.
