Died: 05/21/1998
Catharine Margaret Inez Watkins Isaacs, 99, of Newport, died Thursday
at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County following several months of declining
health.
She was born May 27, 1898; she was six days from her 100th birthday.
She was a member of English Creek Baptist Church.
She was a graduate of Meredith College.
She is survived by her sons, Fred W. Isaacs and his wife, Edith Isaacs,
George W. Isaacs, and Richard F. Isaacs and his wife, Sarah D. Isaacs;
four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned at the family plot at Burchwood Cemetery
in Roxboro, North Carolina, at a date yet to be announced.

Patton A. Reece, 90, passed away Wednesday evening at the Baptist Convalescent
Center following a short illness. He was a member of the Deep Gap Baptist
Church. Patton was a retired farmer and carpenter.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Toy Reece. Survivors include
his wife, Viola Messer Reece, of Del Rio; daughters and sons-in-law, Ovella
and Lee Willis, of Newport; Ila and Roy Cagle, of Knoxville; Reva and Arnold
Williamson, of Petersburg, Virginia, Eunice and Junior Lowe, of Aiken,
South Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Everett and Alma Lee, of Hopewell,
Virginia; sister, Hattie Carlisle, of Del Rio; brothers, Toy Reece and
wife Thelma, of Newport, and Richard Reece and wife Edith, of Del Rio;
14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild;
special nephew, Jimmy Reece and his wife, Beverly, of North Augusta, Georgia.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral

The funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home
with Rev. Wayne Haney and Rev. Frank Hux officiating. Interment will be
in the Clark Cemetery in Del Rio.

York, SC, born on September 12, 1927 in Newport, died Thursday, July 2,
at home.
Mrs. Horne was a charter member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, in Lake
Wylie, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Garner Haney
and Nancy Ellison Haney. Survivors include her husband, Howard E. Horne,
of the home; one son, Ernest Hoyt Horne, of York, SC; one daughter, Vonda
H. Wallace, of York, SC; one brother, James E. Haney, of York, SC; one
sister, Polly H. Sanders, of Rock Hill, SC; and one grandson, Justin E.
Horne, of York, SC.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 4, at Pine Grove
Baptist Church, Lake Wylie, SC, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Bryant. Interment

Ethel Mae Carmichael, 65, of Newport, died Saturday afternoon at the
Mariner Health Care Center. She was a member of the Nina Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Carmichael; parents,
Fred and Faye Hall Chapman; and brothers, Walter C. Chapman, Rev. Artie
Ray Chapman, and Jess Chapman.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Ann Glass of Kingsport; sons,
William Earl Glass of Rogersville, and Frankie Carmichael of White Pine;
brothers, Hubert Chapman of Newport, John Chapman of Morristown, and Fred
Stoke Chapman of Richmond, Washington; sisters, Mary Nell Livesay of Morristown,

Ida Mae Hefner, 92, died Saturday at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke
County following a lengthy illness. She was a member of the Newport Church
of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Hefner.
Survivors include her children, Howard E. Hefner and his wife, Linda,
Robert Hefner and his wife, June, Lucille Holt, and Ruth Cline, all of
Newport; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Chapel with Rev. Norman Jones officiating. Burial will be in the

Jimmy Michael Ogle, 36, of Hartford, died July 3 at Baptist Hospital
of Cocke County.
Mr. Ogle was born September 21, 1961.
He was employed at Great Lakes.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Ogle; brother, Hal Ogle;
and grandparents, Lawrence Ramsey, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Davis, and Mr. and
Mrs. Lamar Ogle.
Survivors: son, Nolan Ogle of Sevierville; sisters, Vonda McGaha and
Ronda Freeman, both of Newport, and Nancy Denton of Dandridge; and mother,
Lois Ogle of Hartford. Additional survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins,
aunts, uncles, friends, and a special great-aunt, Margaret Brown.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 6, at the Costner-Maloy Funeral
Chapel, with Dr. Frank Bell officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery.

Baptist Hospital of Cocke County.
She was a volunteer at Mariner Health Care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roby Benson; parents, Tooney
and Zilla Hance Scott; brother, Clarence Scott; stepson, Warren B. Benson;
and niece, Brenda R. Strange.
She is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Phillips, Eunice
and Bill Bowling, Mary Kirkland, and Fannie and Roy Cameron, all of Newport;
foster sister, Nancy Ball of Newport; brother and sister-in-law, John C.

Family members and friends are saddened at the loss of Herchell S.
Cline, who died suddenly at 2:30 p.m. on July 6 in Newport.
He was a lifetime native of Cocke County, who was well known and liked
by everyone because of his friendly personality and his kindness.
He was a farmer most of his life, working hard to care for his wife
and nine children.
Mr. Cline was preceded in death by his parents, Lindia Elizabeth Ellison
and Jack Cline; his wife, Eara Roe Edith Talley Cline; brothers, Jim and
Roe Cline; and a sister, Daisy Marshall.
Survivors include his children, Jack Cline and wife, Mary, Joe Cline,
and Bill Cline, all of Cleveland, Ohio, Ruth McCaffrey of Knoxville, June
and husband, Bob Hefner, Lorene Ellis, Ruby and husband, Ralph Perryman,
and Nancy and husband, Donald (Short) Haun, all of Newport, and Betty Cline
of Morristown; sister, Ollie and husband, Gene Deramus of Morristown; and
a special grandson, James Ellis of Newport. He was blessed with 16 other
grandchilden and sev eral great-grandchildren and many friends that knew
him as "Shorty" or "Cowboy."

Jones, Newport, Joann Holder, Ohio, and Roseanna and Randall Centers, Sevierville;

of Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Smith and Carrie Teague; grandson,
Brock Smith Teague; and sisters, Anna Teague, Eula Parks, Ottie Allen,
Margaret Teague, Georgia Raines, Dorothy Freshour, and Frances Cody.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Teague, Del Rio; son and daughter-in-law,

Jerry McCurry, Newport, and Donna and Chris Wood, Dandridge; grandchildren,
Shane and Sharon Barger, Heather Barger, Ryan and Kyle Wood, and Jennifer

by a son, Charles Jason Cagle; a grandson, Mark Cagle; and a brother, Wade

home of her daughter, Mrs. Jim (Betty) Robinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Leonard Dean.
She is survived by one other child, John Dean, of Kosciusko, Mississippi;
granddaughter, Meg, and her husband, Bill King, of Knoxville; grandson,
Johnny, and his wife, Sandy Dean, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and great-grandchildren,
Ryan and Kyle King of Knoxville and Christopher and Jennifer Dean of Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania.

Cemetery in Cleveland, Mississippi, with the Rev. Bell officiating.

Polly Woods Ownsby, 95, of Newport, passed away Monday evening at her
home following a lengthy illness.
She was a member of the True Light Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Ownsby; five children;
two sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include daughters, Katherine Carmichael and Ada B. Robinson;
sisters, Alice Stewart and Matilda Hatcher, all of Newport; a devoted daughter-in-law,
Stella Ownsby of Newport; and a niece and several nephews. Polly was blessed
with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren,
and great-great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. and Margaret Cole
Green; and a brother, Woodrow Green.
He is survived by his wife, Vestoria Moore Green of Del Rio; children,

Arvin Willis of White Pine, and Curtis Green and Terry and his wife, Carol

result of an auto accident.
He was a member of the West End Baptist Church and a member of the
Newport Rescue Squad.

of Newport; mother and stepfather, Lucille and Jimmy Hill of Newport; and
sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Don Wilson of Crossville. He is also

Georgia; nephew, Johnny Cooper, of Mohawk; and niece, Janice Baker, of
Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at Mayes
Mortuary with Rev. Jim Turner and Rev. George Johnson officiating. Graveside
entombment services will be held Friday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at Jarnagin
Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to
8 p.m. prior to services at Mayes Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Ron Renner,
John Dugger, Johnny Cooper, Kenneth Robinette, J.L. Gardner, and Rex Harmon.
