Elizabeth Jean Baird

Elizabeth Jean Baird, 66, of Jellico, died Sunday, October 8 at her home.

She was preceded in death by; daughter, Ruby Charlene Smith; grandsons, Joseph Reed, and Allie Chambers. Survivors include; husband, Clifford Baird ; sons, Bobby Joe Chambers of Arcadia, Florida, and Kelsey Ray Chambers of Glen Falls, New York; daughters, Brenda K. McIntosh of Clarksville, Indiana, Karen Sue Booker of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Shirley Faye Hackworth of Clinton, Janet Geraldine Worth of Arcadia, Florida, and Goldie Leechevia Rogers of Indianapolis, Indiana; sixteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 11 at Harp Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Denny Wayne Davis officiating. Interment followed in Douglas Cemetery. 

Sandy Chapman

Sandy Chapman, 45, of Lake City, died Saturday, October 7 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was a member of the Guiding Star Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by; parents, Glenn and Inez Foust. Survivors include; husband, Billy Joe Chapman; daughter, Deidra Fritts of Lake City; grandchildren, Samantha Boruff, and Donavon Boruff, both of Lake City; sisters, Brenda Bishop, and Shona Shultz, both of Clinton, Kay Maiden, and Sheila Poore, both of Lake City; and brother, Larry "Bow" Foust of Clinton.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 10 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with Rev. Terry Slover officiating. Interment followed in Foust Cemetery, Lake City.

Howard Edward Kennedy

Howard Edward Kennedy, 57 of Pioneer, died Monday, October 2 at Jellico Community Hospital.

He is survived by; brothers, Robert Kennedy of Wooldridge, and Charles Blackwell of Dayton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 6 at Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel in Jellico with Rev. David Morgan officiating. Interment followed in Warren Memorial Cemetery in Elk Valley.

Greta Leach

Greta Leach, 92, of Speedwell, died Monday, October 2 at Tri State Comprehensive Care Center in Harrogate. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by; husband, David Leach; son, Glen Leach; and sister, Gusta Leach. Survivors include; sister, Dallis Maddox; granddaughter, Debra Bowen of Louisa, Kentucky; and daughter-in-law, Jerlene Leach of Louisa, Kentucky; several nieces, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 3 at Reece Funeral Home Valley Chapel with Pastor Roger Leach officiating. Graveside service followed by interment Wednesday, October 4 in Leach Family Cemetery.

Opal Irene Muse

Opal Irene Muse, 68, of Caryville, died Thursday, October 5 at LaFollette Medical Center. She was a member of Midway Baptist church.

She was preceded in death by; parents, George and Leoda Smith; and brother, Billy Ray Smith. Survivors include; husband, Hoyt Muse; brother, Robert Smith of Caryville; and sisters, Betty Robbins of Baltimore, Maryland, Wilma Finley of LaFollette, and Lucille Campbell of Youngstown, Ohio.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 8 at Cross Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leonard Dabney and Rev. Robert Adkins officiating. Interment followed in Campbell Memorial Gardens.

Herman D Ryan

Herman D. Ryan, 39, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died Monday, September 25 at University Hospital.

He was preceded in death by; father, Buddy Ray Ryan; grandparents, Chris and Rosie Walden, Herman Ryan, and Tava Lay. Survivors include; sons, Travis Ryan, and Spencer Ryan, both of Norwood, Ohio; mother, Louise Walden Ryan of Norwood, Ohio; sisters, Karen Brockoff of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Renee Martin of Milford, Ohio; brother, Buddy Ryan, Jr. of Austin, Texas; aunts, uncles, and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 28 at Floral Church of God in Norwood, Ohio . Interment followed in Vine Street Cemetery. Witt-Good & Kelsch Funeral Home of Oakley, Ohio in charge of arrangements. 

Nannie Louise Smith

Nannie Louise Smith, 88, of Caryville, died Monday, October 9 at LaFollette Medical Center. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Caryville.

She was preceded in death by; husbands, Posey Cook, and Alfred Smith; and son, Bobby Cook. Survivors include; daughters, Mary Wilson, Wanda Farmer, and Betty Ward, all of Caryville, Zola Donaldson of Powell, and Sharon Cawood of Knoxville; sons, Charles Cook, Aubrey Cook, Bobby Cook, Jr., and Roy Smith, all of Jacksboro, and Gordon Smith, and Gene Smith, both of Caryville; brother, Gene Kingsley of Caryville; twenty-nine grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 11 at Cross Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joby Byrge and Rev. David Walker officiating. Interment will follow today (Thursday), October 12 at 11 a.m. in Campbell Memorial Gardens.

Thomas Ray Steele

Thomas Ray Steele, 82, of Lake City, died Saturday, October 7 at Rockwood Health Care in Rockwood. he was a member of First Baptist Church, and of Coal Creek Lodge #492 , a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during WWII, and he was retired from Union Carbide.

He is survived by; daughter, Diane Agee of Harriman; grandchildren, Thomas H. Solomom of Lake City, and Denise Bilbrey of Knoxville; two great-grandchildren; special friend, Christa Keyes of Caryville; two nieces; and one sister-in-law.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 9 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brian Courtney officiating, and with the Masonic Service prior. Graveside service followed by interment Tuesday, October in Sunset Cemetery, Clinton.

Emma Sue Summerfield

Emma Sue Tucker Summerfield, 65, of Lake City, died Sunday, October 8. She was a member of New Hope Baptist church.

She was preceded in death by; parents, Ace and Ruth Parnell Tucker; and brothers, Paul Edward Tucker, and George "Froggy" Tucker. Survivors include; daughters, Deborah Kay Kesterson of Clinton, and Brenda Gail Karnuth of Lake City; sons, Paul David Carden, and Gregory Stephen Carden, both of Knoxville, and Michael Wayne Carden of Clinton; nine grandchildren; sister, Mildred Spears of Lake City; brothers, Lloyd Tucker of Powell, Lewis Tucker, and Bob Tucker, both of Lake City, Harold Tucker of Clinton, and Jim Tucker of California; and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 10 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Miller officiating. Graveside service followed by interment Wednesday, October 11 in Leach Cemetery.

Eugene Russell Bradley

Eugene Russell Bradley, 52, of Caryville, died Thursday, November 30 at his home. He was a member of Cherry Bottom Baptist Church, and a U. S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by; parents, Thomas Lee and Estella Trowbridge Bradley. Survivors include; wife, Judy Bradley; son, Adam Bradley of Caryville; daughter, Rebekah Badley of Caryville; sisters, Gail Helton of Beaufort, South Carolina, Sandra Smith of Knoxville, and Joyce Collingsworth of Lake City; brother, Bruce Bradley of LaFollette; half-brothers, Robert Bradley of Nashville, and Wayne Bradley of Crossville; half-sister, Betty Seay of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 2 at Cross Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rick Howard and Rev. Randy Comer officiating. Interment followed Sunday, December 3 in Woodward Cemetery.

Anna Dossett Davis

Anna Dossett Davis, 93, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, December 4.

She was preceded in death by; husband, William E. Davis; and parents, Thomas D. Dossett and Mary Telitha Hunter. Survivors include; brothers, Walter Dossett, Houston Dossett, and Frank Dossett, all of LaFollette; sisters, Victoria Lane of Florida, Addie Dodd of Alabama, Eleanor Northcutt of Ohio, and Mary Lee Williams, and Nannie Green, both of Knoxville; special niece and nephew, Hilda and Clyde Jenner of Oak Ridge; and a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 6 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with nephew Russell Davis, and Rev. Jim Mullins officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Cross Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. 

Clyde Ray Humphrey

Clyde Ray Humphrey, 58, of Caryville, died Saturday, December 2 at his home. He was a member of Bear Wallow Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by; father, Elbert Humphrey. Survivors include; wife, Joan Humphrey; son, Rick Humphrey of Caryville; daughter, Geri Price of Jacksboro; grandchildren, Megan Price, Kyndra Price, and Sean Humphrey; mother, Ellen Wilson Humphrey of Caryville; brothers, Isaac Humphrey of Jefferson, Ohio, Tommy Humphrey of Jacksboro, and Johnny Humphrey of Louisiana, and Clarence Humphrey of McEwen; sisters, Nina Cole of LaFollette, Wanda Silcox of Jacksboro, Margaret Rozman of Andover, Ohio, and Shirley Daugherty of Briceville; several nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services wee held Tuesday, December 5 at Bear Wallow Baptist Church with Rev. Jehu Parks and Rev. Robert Adkins officiating. Intement followed Wednesday, December 6 in Harness Cemetery. Betty Jean Myers

Betty Jean Smith Myers, 72, of LaFollette, died Sunday, December 3 at LaFollette Medical Center. She was a member of First Independent Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by; father, Theodore Curtis Smith; and great-granddaughter, Savannah Noel Oliver. Survivors include; husband, Milton Myers; mother, Essa Alberta Meredith Smith of LaFollette; daughters, Linda Jean Myers Oliver of West Palm Beach, Florida, Susan Myers Goodman of Caryville, Melissa Kae Myers Byrd of Clinton, and Diana Lee Myers Boston of LaFollette; son, Ray Curtis Myers of LaFollette; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 4 at Cross Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Howard Tapp officiating. Interment followed Tuesday, December 5 in Campbell Memorial Gardens.

Pamela Sue Payne

Pamela Sue Payne, 54, of Jacksboro, died Friday, December 1 at LaFollette Medical Center. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by; parents, Clifford and Ruby G. Gray Johnson; brothers, Charles Gray, N. S. Johnson, and Nola Charles; and granddaughter, Shelby Payne. Survivors include; son, Roger Payne of LaFollette; daughter, Melissa Witt of Knoxville; brothers, Jim Johnson, Willis Johnson, Don Johnson, and Jr. Johnson; sisters, Loretta Johnson, Jean Babb,, and Iva Wagner; grandchildren, Elizabeth Durham, Jonathan Witt, and Mackenzie Payne; several nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 5 at Martin Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hobart McCreary officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children's Hospital.

Everette Phillips

Everette Phillips. 84, of Lake City, died Thursday, November 30 at the Lake City Health Care Center. He was a member of the Laurel Branch Baptist Church, and an Army veteran of WWII.

He was preceded in death by; parents, John H. and Martha Carroll Phillips. Survivors include; wife, Della Phillips; son, Roger Phillips of Lake City; daughter, Rose Owens of Lake City; sister, Mossie Phillips of Lake City; grandchildren; Dean Russell Owens, Randall Owens, Bradley Amos Phillips, and Roger Everette Phillips; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 2 at Cox-Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Archie Seiber officiating. Interment followed Sunday, December 3 in Campbell Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors.

Blanche Claiborne Sharp

Blanche Claiborne Sharp, 84, of LaFollette, died Friday, December 1 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a retired school teacher, member of LaFollette United Methodist Church, lifetime member of Cumberland Mountain Chapter 137 Order of Eastern Star, LaFollette Garden Club, and Bridge Club.

She was preceded in death by; husband, Dr. Clyde B. Sharp; parents, John Hogan and Maggie Hill Claiborne; sister, Mary Claiborne Hollingsworth; and brothers, William F. Claiborne, and Glen R. Claiborne. Survivors include; daughter, Judy Sharp Starr of Manchester; grandchildren, Stacey Starr Pace of Fayetteville, Amy Starr of Atlanta, Georgia, and Captain Michael Starr of the U. S. Air Force, Langley, Virginia; three great-grandchildren; brother, John H. Claiborne of LaFollette; special friend; Kathern Gosnell of LaFollette; several relatives and friends.

Jeffery Christopher Wilcox

Jeffery Christopher Leombruno Wilcox, 37, of Jacksboro, died Saturday, December 2 at Fort Sanders Medical Center, Knoxville. He was of the Baptist faith and a U. S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by; father, Johnny E. Wilcox. Survivors include; mother and step-father, E. L. and Rev. Wilcox Crabtree of Jacksboro; brothers, John T. Wilcox of Clinton, and Larry Wilcox of Warner Robins, Georgia; sister, Rhonda Guinn of Knoxville; step-brothers, David Lynn Crabtree of Jacksboro, James D. Crabtree of Cleveland, Ohio, and Charles L. Crabtree of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Antony H. Crabtree of Johnson City; step-sister, Pamela Shulz of Knoxville; special friend, Joseph Walker of Jacksboro; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Lillian Thomas Younce

Lillian Thomas Younce, 93, of Zionville, North Carolina, died Friday, December 1 at Glenstone Health Care in Boone, North Carolina. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, a graduate of Cove Creek High School, attended Appalachian Training School, and a former teacher at North Fork, Mabel, and Tracy Elementary Schools.

She was preceded in death by; parents, Roby Alfred and Eliza Greer Thomas; sisters, Cora Moretz, and Nora Warren; brother, Arthur Thomas; and two granddaughters. Survivors include; husband, Ivan Younce; daughter, Betty Blackburn of Cherryville, North Carolina; sons, Tommy Younce of Vilas, North Carolina, Kent Younce of LaFollette, and Lowell Younce of Zionville; brothers, Clay Thomas of Zionville, and Dewey Thomas of Wasco, Oregon; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 4 at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Warren and Rev. Carl Wilson officiating. Interment followed in Union Church Cemetery.
