Andrew Clarence Archer, Jr., 43, of Briceville, died Monday, November 1. He was a member of the Jarigan Chapel Baptist Church and a United States Army Veteran. He was employed by the Rogers Group.

Mr Archer is survived by; parents, Andrew Clarence and Dorla Thompson Archer; wife, Sheila Seiber Archer; son, Robert Scott Archer of Briceville; daughters, Jessica Archer, and Patricia Archer, both of Briceville; brothers; Steven Archer, and Jeff Archer, both of Caldwell, Ohio, sisters, Deborah Neff, and Sharon Moonney, both of Caldwell, Ohio .

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday), November, 4 at 2 p.m. at the Graves Gap Baptist Church with Rev. Luke Kidwell and Rev. Johnny Randolph officiating. Interment will follow in Brown Cemetery. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City in charge of arrangements.
 

Geraldine Barnes

Geraldine Barnes, 58, of Toledo, Ohio, died Saturday, October 30 at the home of her daughter. She was a member of Grap Missionary Baptist Church. 

She was preceded in death by; parents, Hobert and Evelyn (Murray) Lay; and grandson, Johnathon Barnes. Survivors include; husband, Rev. Raymond Barnes; sons, Damon Barnes of Monroe, and Ronald Barnes of Maybee; daughter; Debbie Bray of Monroe, brothers, Jim Lay of LaFollette, and John Lay of Jacksboro; sisters, Janice Sparks of Rockledge, Florida, Carolyn Arcaro of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Nalda Smith of Monroe; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 3 at Bennett Monroe Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Southerland and Rev. Dale Williams. Interment followed. The family asks that memorials be made to Mercy Memorial Hospice.
 

James Clayton Black

James Clayton Black, 73, of LaFollette, died Sunday, October 31 at the LaFollette Medical Center. He was of the Church of God faith and a United States Army Veteran.

He was preceded in death by; parents, Frank and Susie Black. Survivors include; son, James C. Black, Jr. of LaFollette; and brother, Woodrow Black of Bokeelia, Florida.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 1 at Cross Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Leach and Rev. Mark Graves officiating. Interment followed Tuesday, November 2 in Sunrise Cemetery.
 

Zell Buttram

Zell Buttram, 75, of 311 Jane Way Lane, Jacksboro, died Saturday, October 30 at the LaFollette Medical Center. She was a member of Scott County Church of God.

She was preceded in death by; parents, Dan and Nannie Mae West Dobbs; and brother, Donald Dobbs. Survivors include; husband, Louie Buttram; sons, Willie Buttram of LaFollette, Eddie Buttram, and Darryl Buttram, both of Jacksboro; daughters; Gertie Nelson of Chardon, Ohio, Virginia Rogers, Betty Herron, and Phyllis Johnson, all of LaFollette, Judy McKinney of Cleveland, Ohio, and Kathy Hyder of Lake City; brothers, Votaw Dobbs of Helenwood, Tennessee, and Roy Lester Dobbs of Oneida; sisters, Eunice Elton, and Lena Regan, both of Oneida, and Helen Phillips of Paint Rock, Kentucky; thirty-two grandchildren; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 2 in Martins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony McAfee officiating. Interment followed in Rose Garden Cemetery in Helenwood. 
 

Bertha Marie Byrge

Bertha Marie Byrge, 86, of Jacksboro, died Thursday, October 28 at Lake City Health Care Center. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by; husband, Deles Byrge; and daughter, Geraldine Wells. Survivors include; sons, Ray Byrge, and Larry Byrge, both of Jacksboro; daughters, Alice Faye Evans of LaFollette, Vivian St. John, and Brenda McQuinn, both of Jacksboro; and twenty-one grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 31 at Cross Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. O.P. Byrd and Rev. Leonard Dabney officiating. Interment followed Monday, November 1 in Campbell Memorial Gardens.
 

Martha Marie Cox

Marth Marie Cox, 81, of Duff, died Tuesday, November 2 at her home.

She was preceded in death by; husband, George Cox; son, George Cox, Jr.; and parents, Lee and Florida Ridenour Vanover. Survivors include; sons, Jerry Cox of LaFollette, John Cox of Duff, and Kenny Cox of Georgia; daughters, Bonnie Douglas of Chattanooga, Ann Jeffers of Georgia, Linda Evans of Jacksboro, and Patsy Milton of Duff; brother, Lloyd Vanover of Scott County; sisters, Eudeana Branam, and Katherine Coleman, both of LaFollette, and Easter Albertini of Kentucky; fifteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be today (Thursday), November 4 at 8 p.m. in the Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Pat Ayers and Rev. Gary Lynn Ray officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. before services. Interment will follow Friday, November 5 at 11 a.m. in Davis Cemetery.
 

Edna Sophia Cross

Edna Sophia Cross, 92, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Elk Valley, died Thursday, October 28 at Victory Park Nursing Home. She was a member of the Elk Valley Church of God for 80 years.

She was preceded in death by; husband, Oscar Cross, Sr. Survivors include; son, Oscar Cross, Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandsons, Vernon Cross, Harold Cross, and Donald Cross; seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 2 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Hansford officiating. Interment followed in the Valley View Cemetery in Elk Valley.
 

 

Roy Gothard

Roy Gothard, 83, of Habersham, died Monday, November 1 at the family residence. He was a member of the Little White Oak Church of God and a retired coal miner.

He was preceded in death by; parents, Thomas Jefferson and Matilda Freels Gothard; wife, Thelma Mae Branam; son, Roy Wayne Gothard; brothers, Charlie Gothard, and Clarence Gothard. Survivors include; daughters, Agalee Bolton , and Lois Malicoat, both of Habersham; son, John Gothard of Jacksonville, Florida; sisters, Vivian Malicoat of Habersham, and Pauline Humphrey of Sparta, Tennessee; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Virginia Jobe, 67, of Lake City, died Saturday, October 30 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

She was preceded in death by; parents, Fred R. and Ruby Scarborough; sister, Margaret Scarborough; and brothers, William Scarborough, Herbert Scarborough, and Otto Scarborough. Survivors include; husband, Ed Jobe; sons, Richard James Dabney, Larry Mullins, and Michael D. Mullins, all of Lake City; Sisters; Nevil Walker of Lake City, Linda Coleman of Spring City, Susie Hall, and Jewell Little, both of Kentucky; brothers, Donnie Scarborough, and Terry Scarborough, both of Wartburg, Jerry Scarborough of New River, and Jackie Scarborough of Maryland; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

David Lynn Longmire

David Lynn Longmire, 61, of Medway, Ohio, formerly of LaFollette, died Sunday, October 24 at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was a member of the LaFollette First Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by; parents, Alvin and Rico Longmire; and brothers, Jackie Ray Longmire, and Kyle Longmire. Survivors include; sisters, Donna Davis of Medway, Ohio; and Uldean Roberts; brothers, Henry Longmire, and Jerry Longmire, both of Stratford, New Jersey.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 30 at LaFollette First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Malcolm King officiating. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Claude W. Massengill

Claude W. Massengill, 83, of Caryville, died Monday, October 25 at the LaFollette Medical Center. He was a member of Little Cove Creek Baptist Church, a member of Coal Creek Lodge #492 F&AM in Lake City, and a member of Scottish Rite and Shriners.

He was preceded in death by; parents, Henry and Janie Massengill; twin brother, Clyde Massengill; brother, Harry Massengill; sisters, Lena Ward, Stella Wilson, Della Terry, and Edith Skeens; and daughter, Lois Jean Massengill. Survivors include; wife, Dora Terry Massengill; sons, Glenn Massengill of Piney Flats, Tennessee, and Carlos Massengill of Columbus, Ohio, Edward Massengill of Jacksboro, Ronnie Massengill of Morristown, Jimmy Massengill of LaFollette, and Claude Junior Massengill of Caryville; half-brothers, Bill Miller of Jacksboro, and A.J. Miller of Ohio; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Masonic services were held Wednesday, October 27 at the Holly-Gamble Funeral Home Chapel with Coal Creek Lodge #492 performing the service. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 28 at 2 p.m. in the Holly-Gamble Chapel in Lake City with Rev. Ernest Ward and Rev. C. H. Baird officiating. Interment followed in Campbell Memorial Gardens.
 

Hazel Paul

Hazel Paul, 87, of Lake City, died Friday, October 29 at the Lake City Health Care Center. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, and worked for many years at Miller's Department Store.

She was preceded in death by; husband, Noel Paul; parents, William Elbert and Lillie Viola Day; brother, Joe E. Day; and sisters, Minnie Pearl Thompson, and Alice Pearl White. Survivors include; daughter, Dorothy Dobbs of Glen St. Mary, Florida; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Eugene "Red" Sharp

Eugene "Red" Sharp, 72, of LaFollette, died Thursday, October 28 at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a member of Grantsboro Baptist Church, a United States Army Air Corps Veteran, and a Campbell County School Board Member for 12 years. He was the owner of Sharp's Grocery Store in Grantsboro for 35 years.

Mr. Sharp was preceded in death by; wife, Doris Lea Chamber Sharp; parents, Frank and Stella Aharp; and brother, Glen Sharp. Survivors include; daughter, Mitzi Lawson of Grantsboro; sisters, Margie Sharp, and Algiadee Sharp, both of Grantsboro, and Pauline Bolinger of Warren, Michigan; and three grandchildren.

Earl "Doc" Shoun

Earl "Doc" Shoun, 83, of Jellico, died Wednesday, October 27 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and taught school for thirty-five years.

He was preceded in death by; parents, Frederick and Effie Powell Shoun. Survivors include; wife, Maureen Shoun ; sons, Wilbur Shoun, and Steve Shoun, both of Maryville, Tennessee; daughter, Jean Ann Teague of Columbia, Missouri; sister, Lana Vondell of LaFollette; brother, Glenn Shoun of Bronson, Michigan; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 29 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Chuck Summers officiating. Interment followed Saturday, October 30 in the Pond Cemetery in LaFollette. Wanda Sue White

Wanda Sue White, 52, of Speedwell, died Friday, October 29 at the home of her sister in Jacksboro. She was a member of Cumberland View Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by; father, Willard White; and a brother, Tommy White. Survivors include; daughters, Victoria Purdy of Speedwell, Jennifer Roddy of Jacksboro, and Glenda Smiddy of LaFollette; sons, Glen Lascola, Jr., and Brian Lascola, both of Clinton; mother, Bonnie Carroll White of LaFollette; brothers, Paul White, and Devon White, both of LaFollette, Earl White of Jacksboro, and Eddie White of Clinton; sisters, Mary Freeman of LaFollette, Lois Cox, and Judy Dugger, both of Jacksboro; and seven grandchildren.

Sarah Louise Birdwell, 64, of Smyrna, Tennessee , died Friday, June 9 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. She was a retired registered nurse.

She was preceded in death by; parents, Robert N. and Chloe Birdwell. Survivors include; brothers, Glenn Birdwell of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Richard Birdwell of Carmel, California.

Cleve Byrge, 64, of LaFollette, died Monday, June 12 at Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center. He was of the Baptist faith, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by; granddaughter, Amber Michelle Boheimer; parents, John and Marie Bunch Byrge; and brother, James Byrge. Blanch M Davis, 85, of LaFollette, died Wednesday, June 7 at LaFollette Nursing Home. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by; parents, Will and Verlinchia Davis. Survivors include; nieces, Vivian Parker of Warren, Michigan, Evelyn Greene, and Lou Woodward, both of Arizona, Louise Bradshaw of Ohio, Kathy Davis of Tennessee, and Connie Davis. and Vickie Davis, both of Clinton; nephews, Roger Davis, and Marvin Davis, both of Clinton, and Evert Bradshaw of Illinois; and special friends, Brenda Lane, Clyde Lane, and Landon Lane, all of LaFollette.

Edwin R Eastwood

Edwin R Eastwood, 88, of Jacksboro, died Thursday, June 8 at U.T. Medical Center. He was a member of Jacksboro First Baptist Church. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, worked for TVA for 20 years, and was retired from Union Carbide after 23 years.

He is survived by; wife, Edna Lasley Eastwood; sons, Edwin R Eastwood, Jr. of Kingston, Tennessee, and Kenneth W. Eastwood of Hurricane, West Virginia; daughter, Bobbie J Heineman of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee; special nephews, Larry W Wilson of N. Charleston, South Carolina, and Walter Lasley of Staurt, Virginia; special niece, Wanda Peters of Flat Rock, Michigan; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and neighbors.

Dorothy Aleace Morse Foster, 88, of LaFollette, died Thursday, June 8 at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a member of LaFollette Church of Christ. She was retired from Imperial Reading after 32 years.

She was preceded in death by; husband, Fred F. Foster. Ruth Williams Manning, 78, of Stedman, North Carolina, died Sunday, June 4 at Cape Fear Valley Memorial Hospital, Fayetteville, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by; parents, Joe and Ruth Arnett Williams; and sister, Wilma Jane Williams. Survivors include; son, Arthur Joe Douglas, Sr. of Stedman, North Carolina; sisters, Pearl Lindsey of Lambert, Michigan, Josephine Price of Cincinnati, Ohio, Alice Johnson of Toledo, Ohio; brothers, Joe Ben Williams of Loveland, Ohio, and Phillip Williams of Bristol, Virginia; five grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Ridings, Jr. Survivors include; mother, Bonnie Garner Ridings of LaFollette; brother, Ronnie Ridings of LaFollette; several aunts, uncles, cousins; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 14 at Martin Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darryl Mefford officiating. Interment will follow today (Thursday), June 15 in Campbell Memorial Gardens.

Hattie Helen Prater Sharp, 84, of LaFollette, died Wednesday, June 7 at Sunbridge Nursing Home. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by; husband, Leon Sharp; sons, Alvin Sharp, and Lonzo Sharp; granddaughter, Nicki Preston; parents, Ben and Anne Hood Prater; brothers, Bedford Prater, and Roy Prater; sister, Frances Powers; half-brothers, Leonard Prater, and Frank Prater; and half-sister, Grace Prater Hembree. Survivors include, son, Willard Sharp of Baltimore, Maryland; daughters, Patricia Preston of Glen Bernie, Maryland, and Rose Price of Factoryville, Pennsylvania; special nephew, Earl Hembree of LaFollette; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held graveside Friday, June 9 with Rev. Derrick Hembree officiating, with interment following in Queener Cemetery. Martin Wilson Funeral Home of LaFollette in charge of arrangements.
 

Mary Shiflet

Mary Shiflet, 74, of Speedwell died Thursday, June 8 in Claiborne County. She was a member of Shipley Grove Church of God, where she was the piano player for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by; husband, Roy L. Shiflet; sons, Thomas, Gary, and Jackie; daughter, Nancy Marie; and parents, Alonzo and Dollie Davis Mason. Survivors include; sons, Sam Shiflet, Harold Shiflet, and Jerry Shiflet, all of Speedwell; nine step-children Vibert Shiflet, and Ruth Welch, both of Speedwell, Audrey Blake of Encinitas, California, Madeline Roe of Kokomo, Indiana, Joe Shiflet of Monroe, Michigan, June Allen of Hawthorne, Florida, Wilma Patton, Delores Sharpe of Cumberland Gap, and Jim Shiflet of Greenfield, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Rhonda George of Asheville, North Carolina, April Garrison of Oneida, Alicia Shiflet of Harrogate, Thomas Shiflet of Clearwater, Florida, Melinda Shiflet of Hixson, Tennessee, and Ashley Drummitt of Harrogate; four great-grandchildren; and special friends, Ruby Shipley, and Sally and Buster Turner.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 10 at Reece Valley Chapel. Graveside services followed by interment Sunday, June 11 in Moyers Cemetery.
 

Edna Smith

Edna Smith, 89, of Brookville, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 7 at Maria Joseph Nursing Home in Brookville.

She was preceded in death by; parents, Thomas and Laura Smith; brothers, Fred Smith, and Herman Smith; and sister, Ruby Smith. Survivors include; four nieces; one nephew; and one sister-in-law.

Private interment was held Friday, June 9. Local arrangements by Cross Funeral Home.
 

 

Ronald Smith

Ronald Smith, 53, of Harrogate, Tennessee, died Sunday, June 11 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was a member of Millers Chapel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by; parents, Sommie and Lena Smith; brother, Glenn Smith; and step-mother, Bessie Lee Smith. Survivors include; wife, Helen Smith; sons, Ronald Scott Smith, and Rodney Wayne Smith, both of Pineville, Kentucky; step-children, Karen Hatfield of Tazewell, and Jody Mozingo of Harrogate; granddaughter, Kayla Hatfield of Tazewell; sisters, Beulah Smith of Miracle, Kentucky, and Irene Ellis of New Tazewell; brothers, Paul Smith of Faubush, Kentucky, David Smith of Ferndale, Kentucky, and Carl Smith of Houston, Texas; special friend, J. B. Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 14 at Creech Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Terry and Rev. Lonnie Lyke officiating. Interment followed in Fonde/Pruden Cemetery.

Walter C Snodderly, 80, of LaFollette, died Wednesday, June 7 at LaFollette Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by; parents, Odis and Liza Snodderly. Survivors include; wife, Charlsie Snodderly of LaFollette; sons, Joe Snodderly of LaFollette, and Charles Snodderly of Jacksboro; daughters, Shirley Gillum of LaFollette; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 9 at Walters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Caswell Barnes, Rev. Ralph Cordell, and Kenny Gillum officiating. Interment followed Saturday, June 10 in Woodlawn Cemetery. Abigail Rogers Wilson

Abigail "Abbie" Rogers Wilson, 87, of LaFollette, died Wednesday, June 7 at LaFollette Medical Center. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by; husband, Clyde Wilson, Sr.; sisters, Ruth Moyers, and Mary Krautkremer; brothers, Esco, Frank, Chester, Casper S., Jr., and Millard Rogers. Survivors include; son, Clyde (Trula) Wilson, Jr. of Walton, Kentucky; grandchildren, Bradley, Matthew, Mark, and Mary Wilson; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 9 at 2 p.m. at Cross Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Orick officiating. Family received friends from 12 until 2 p.m. Friday prior to services. Interment followed funeral services in Campbell Memorial Cemetery. William Winford Walden, 42, of Jacksboro, died Saturday, June 3 at St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by; parents, Isaac and Gertrude Wilson Walden; sisters, Norma Jean, and Nina Faye; brothers, Lonnie and Benny Ray Walden; and two infant brothers. Luther Wayne Ridings, 34, of Macon, Georgia, died Sunday, June 11 at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville. He was of the Baptist faith and was employed by Spectrum Corporation of Macon, Georgia as District Manager.

He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Ridings, Jr. Survivors include; mother, Bonnie Garner Ridings of LaFollette; brother, Ronnie Ridings of LaFollette; several aunts, uncles, cousins; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 14 at Martin Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darryl Mefford officiating. Interment will follow today (Thursday), June 15 in Campbell Memorial Gardens.
 

Maggie H Lovett

Maggie H. Lovett, 94, of Jacksboro, died Friday, June 2 at LaFollette Medical Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by; husband, Moses H. Lovett, Sr.,; sons, Winfred Byrd, and an infant son; an infant daughter; parents, Henry B. and Martha Clotfelter Queener; brothers, Leonard, John, and Carl Queener. Survivors include; sons, Moses Lovett, Jr. of Lithia Springs, Georgia, Johnny Byrd, and Marshall Byrd, both of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; daughters, Mattie Lou Nance, Jo Blankenship, and Grace Turner, all of Jacksboro; sisters, Murle Baird of Jacksboro, Thelma Tiller, Mary Tiller, and Gladys Miller, all of LaFollette; twenty-two grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 4 at Cross Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Parker officiating. Interment followed in Jacksboro Cemetery.
