HATTIE L. BALE

Hattie L. Bale, 89, of Ligonier, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Edgewood Nursing Center, Youngstown, Pa. She was born Sept. 14, 1910, in Germany, a daughter of the late Ernst and Dorothea Lorcher. She was a member of the former Ligonier B.P.W. and the Laughlintown Community Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Bale, in 1976; and 12 brothers and sisters. She is survived by a son, William R. and wife, Maryellyn Bale, of Sarver; a daughter, Margery A. Bale of Ligonier; a granddaughter, Hope A. Bale of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the J. PAUL McCRACKEN FUNERAL HOME INC., 144 E. Main St., Ligonier. RICHARD BALLANTINE

Richard Ballantine, of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Penn Hills, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999. Mr. Ballantine was a boiler maker for Local 154. He was the beloved husband of Frances Ballantine and the late Jane White; father of Maureen DeDobbeleer of Odessa, Fla., and Raymond R. Ballantine of Shaler Township; brother of Margaret Hood of England; grandfather of Raymond and Brian Ballantine, Terri Butler, Michele and Rachel DeDobbeleer; and two great-grandchildren. M. THOBURN BANKS

M. Thoburn Banks, 89, of Scottdale, passed away Tuesday evening, Nov. 9, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Lewistown, Pa., Nov. 1, 1910, a son of the late George Warren and Blanche Rebecca Wright Banks. Tobe was a retired electrical designer for R.E. Uptegraff Manufacturing Company of Scottdale, where he worked from 1937-1975. While employed with R.E. Uptegraff, Tobe also worked at the original Pittsburgh plant and served as manager of the plant in Terra Alta, W.Va. He was a longtime member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Scottdale, the Wesley Brotherhood Class, and the Retired United Methodist Men. A 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Tobe Held membership with the Marion Masonic Lodge #562 of Scottdale, the Terra Alta, W.Va. Masonic Lodge #106, and the Westmoreland Forest Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He was a graduate of Oil City High School with the Class of 1928 and attended Carnegie Institute of Technology from 1928-1930. Tobe is survived by his loving children: Barbara Lois Banks and her husband, Paul Michael Moran, of Union, Ky., James W. Banks and his wife, Linda (Beal), of Scottdale, Carole Robbins and her husband, Michael, of Pittsburgh, Georg R. Banks and wife, Martha (Rolla), of Scottdale, John D. Banks of Ravenna, Ohio, and Patricia A. Franks of Scottdale; eight loving grandchildren, Barbara and Paula Moran, Chris Banks, Julie Carson, Doug Banks, Jooke and Ben Robbins, and Steven Banks; a great-grandson, Riley J. Banks; a sister-in-law, Janet Porter Banks of Uniontown, formerly of Scottdale; and two nephews. In addition to his parents, Tobe was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Lackman Banks, on Jan. 18, 1966; a great-grandson, Ethan Raymond Carson, on April 15, 1996; and two brothers, Seyford W. Banks and Duane G. Banks. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. WILLIAM C. BISPING

William C. Bisping, 84, of New Stanton, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Aug. 23, 1915, in Charleroi, a son of the late Harry E. and Elizabeth Wagner Bisping. He was a charter member of Assembly of God Church, New Stanton, and an elder and deacon under the Rev. G. Jack Provard. He attended Victory Chapel in Greensburg. He and his wife spent their lives spreading the Gospel through written literature. Also, he was a former general county manager for Westmoreland Farm Bureau and retired from Associated Truck Lines. He is survived by his wife, Isabelle Parks Bisping; his children, Mrs. Jesse (Kathleen) VanDyke and Mrs. Joseph A. (Carolyn E.) Miller, both of Hunker, William H. Bisping and wife, Ly, of Greensburg, and James R. Bisping of Hunker; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry F. Bisping; a sister, Betty Pahel; and an infant brother, Howard Bisping. GARY A. BOWEN

Gary A. ``Pappy'' Bowen, 57, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Jan. 10, 1942, in Knox, Ill., a son of the late Clyde D. and Mildred Bogswell Bowen. He attended Visitation Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. He was a graduate of the Illinois Police Academy. He was a private in the U.S. Army. Gary was a police sergeant, deputy director, and EMT with the Galva Police in Illinois; a truck driver for Carlson Trucking; a small engine repairman for True Value Duncan in Jeannette; and a CPR instructor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Steve Jr. and Beulah Harrold Potoka. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Emmie Potoka Ruff-Bowen; a son, Richard E. Ruff Jr. and wife, Sara, of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Tina Ruff at home; a granddaughter, Jamie Mimnaugh; a sister, Bev Gerard and husband, Bob, of Galva, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. MICHAEL G. FERKETIC

Michael G. Ferketic, of Indiana Township, on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999. Mr. Ferketic was a building inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of General Services. He was the beloved husband of Mary Lou Erdeljac Ferketic; father of James M. Ferketic of Jamestown, N.Y.; brother of Lois Netzel of Etna, Bill and Richard Ferketic, both of Etna, and Robert Ferketic of Bowie, Md.; and stepson of Helen Ferketic. KATHRYN GOODY HLEBECHUK

Kathryn Goody Hlebechuk, 72, of Jeannette, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born April 2, 1927, in Wilmerding, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna Romansky Goody. Kathryn was a devoted member of the St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church of Jeannette and also a member of the Ukrainian Club of Wilmerding. She was a graduate of Jeannette High School and was employed by the former Jeannette Glass and Shade & Novelty. Kathryn is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 44 years, Edward M. Hlebechuk; three sons, Edward Hlebechuk and wife, Leslie, and Donald Hlebechuk, all of Jeannette, and David Hlebechuk and wife, Robin, of Greensburg; three daughters, Anne Persichetti and her husband, Mark, of New Alexandria, Barbara Colonna and her husband, John, and Nancy Cochran and her husband, Mark, all of Jeannette; 12 wonderful grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Robosky and her husband, Joseph, of North Huntingdon and Margaret Kosmach and her husband, William, of Ohio; two brothers, Walter Goody and Joseph Goody and his wife, Sandra, all of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Stella ``Sally'' Lauer, 63, of Murrysville, on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999. Born Aug. 2, 1936, in Braddock, a daughter of the late Irvin and Stella Welsh Rittko. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Export. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Daniel; two brothers, Howard and Theodore Rittko; and three sisters, Edith Creighton, Alice Zimmerman, and Mildred Wilcox, who just passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9. Surviving are her husband, John B. Lauer; a brother, Irvin Rittko and wife, Gladys, of Export; and two sisters, Ella Soles and May Hill and husband, Frank, both of Murrysville. ABDUL-HAMEED MAHSOOB, M.D.

Abdul-Hameed Mahsoob, M.D., on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999. Beloved husband of Mercedes Schram Mahsoob. Loving father of Jaffer, Jad, and Amiena Mahsoob. Grandfather of Kaden Blaise Mahsoob. Also, survived by his father; seven brothers; and two sisters. Dr. Mahsoob was a beloved pediatrician for over 25 years in the North Hills. SAMUEL MARSICO

Samuel ``Po Po'' Marsico, 103, of Jeannette, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. He was born Dec. 21, 1895, in Reggio Calabria, Italy, a son of the late James and Mary Jane Ronka Marsico. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Frank Levin Furniture Co. He was a member of the Ascension Church of Jeannette. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Isabella Bosso Marsico, in 1988; three sons, Joseph I, Joseph II, and Victor J. Marsico; a grandson, Scott Marsico; two brothers, Tony and Ralph Marsico; a sister, Angeline Barbario; and a daughter-in-law, Blanche Ciafre Marsico. He is survived by three daughters, Mary Jane Beaufort and her husband, Wilbert, Angeline Konkus, with whom he resided, and Margaret Gisane and her husband, Albert, all of Jeannette; two sons, James Marsico of Greensburg and Samuel T. Marsico and his wife, Lillian, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter-in-law, Loretta Marsico of Adamsburg; 11 grandchi1dren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. ROBERT BEN McCANN

Robert Ben McCann, 75, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at his home. He was born Aug. 25, 1924, in New Alexandria, a son of the late Harry H. and Ethel L. Bennett McCann. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Latrobe. He was retired from Latrobe Steel Co. with 37 years service. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He belonged to the Company #1 Firemen's Club, Cooperstown Veterans & Sportsmen's, Lloydsville Sportsmen's Club and the Frontier Club, Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra K. McCann. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Palmer McCann; a son, Robert D. McCann and his wife, Jocelyn, of West Newton; two daughters, Susan J. DePalma and her husband, John, of Greensburg and Carol A. McIntyre and her husband, Patrick, of Latrobe; three brothers, Harry McCann of Henderson, Nev., Donald McCann of New Alexandria, and George McCann of Latrobe; three sisters, Kathryn Bates of Latrobe, Dora Rosborough of Delmont, and Eleanor Miller of Seminole, Fla.; and eight grandchildren, Brian, Danny, Erin, Cara, Kayla, Marisa, Lauren and Megan. ANNA R. PAYNE

Anna R. Payne, 94, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Oct. 13, 1905, in Plsen, Czechoslovakia, a daughter of the late Ignatz and Rose (Zeman) Vorel. She was a member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church, the former Bible Class of Loyalhanna Mission, and the Latrobe Golden Agers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil O. Payne Sr., in 1976; four brothers, Albert, Joseph, Andrew and Charles Vorel; and a son-in-law, Richard L. Sweeney Sr. She is survived by four children, Virgil O. Payne Jr. and his wife, Florence, of Loyalhanna, Rosanne Mrozinsky and her husband, Felix, of Loyalhanna, Richard C. Payne and his wife, Anita, of Doylestown, and Sally P. Sweeney of Latrobe; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Word has been received of the death of Richard E. Phillips, 62, of East Lansing, Mich., who died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at his residence. He was born Dec. 3, 1936, in North Braddock, a son of the late Richard and Romayne (Leddon) Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Betty Phillips; two sons, Tony and wife, Kim Phillips, and Richard Phillips Jr.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Phillips of North Huntingdon and Carol Paul and husband, Jerry, of North Huntingdon; two brothers, George Phillips and wife, Michelle, of Pittsburgh and Wayne Phillips and wife, Debbie, of Trafford; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services and burial to be held Friday in East Lansing, Mich.

SYLVIA FAY REPKO

Sylvia Fay Repko, 65, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Nov. 9, 1934, in Bovard, a daughter of the late John M. and Ida L. Walters Dick. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, Pa. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Dick. She is survived by her husband, Joseph S. Repko; four sons, Joe Repko Jr. and his girlfriend, Diana Dale, of Colona, Ill., Mark Repko of Latrobe, Matt Repko and his wife, Mary, and Tom Repko and his wife, Vicky, all of Baggaley; two daughters, Verinia Repko at home and Faith Thomas and her fiance, Rod Weaver, of Greensburg; seven grandchildren, Nick, Derek, Matthew, Joshua, Seth, Tommy and Cassandra; a great-grandson, Austin; five brothers, John Dick `Jr.' and his wife, Jean, of Loyalhanna, Donald Dick of Pleasant Unity, Ralph Dick and Robert Dick, both of Florida, and Ronald Dick of Michigan; two sisters, Betty Allen and Dolores Bridge, both of Florida; her stepmother, Emma Dick of Latrobe. OSCAR F. ROHRBACHER

Oscar F. Rohrbacher, 77, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born April 16, 1922, in Greensburg, a son of the late Oscar F. and Mary Ellen Lynch Rohrbacher. Prior to retirement, he had been the head of the electrical department for the City of Greensburg. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Greensburg; a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army; and a life member of the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department, Hose Co. #3, where he had held various offices. Also, he was a member of the Pennsylvania State Firemen's Association, Westmoreland County Firemen's Association, the Mohawks Association, and the American Legion Post #981 of South Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. Lyda Rohrbacher, on Oct. 6, 1989; and a sister, Florence Gazze. He is survived by a brother, John ``Jack'' and his wife, Dorothy Rohrbacher, of Greensburg; two nephews, Barrie and his wife, Lisa Rohrbacher, of Greensburg and Nicholas and his wife, Elizabeth Fields, of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandnieces and nephews, Nicole and Jonathan Rohrbacher of Greensburg, and Taylor and Ryan Fields of Knoxville, Tenn.; and several cousins. MARY R. SAUERS

Mary R. Sauers, 84, formerly of Smithton and Baltimore, Md., died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at the residence of her son in West Mifflin. She was born Nov. 28, 1914, in Baltimore, Md., a daughter of the late Walter and Mary Lou Schlinkman Solloway. She was a former bookkeeper, having worked at the First National Bank in Baltimore. She was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Rostraver Township. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Sauers; a brother, Walter Solloway; and a sister, Dorothy Walters. Survived by three sons, George Jr. of Florida, Howard of Smithton, and Roy of West Mifflin, with whom she resided; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a nephew, David Alan Walters; and a niece, Donna Lynn Walters. STEPHEN S. SPINNER

Stephen S. Spinner, 89, of Donora, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. He was born July 24, 1910, in Carroll Township, a son of the late Stephen and Emelia Spinner. Mr. Spinner retired in 1972 from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #354 in Youngwood. He was a member of Transfiguration Church in Monongahela. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. A member of the Sutman Yohe VFW Post #1409, Black Diamond, and the James C. Ford Post #949 Carroll American Legion, Dunkirk. Surviving relatives are a son, William ``Buddy'' Spinner of Donora; three daughters, Darlene and son-in-law, Richard McBurnie, of Long Branch, Rose and son-in-law, Earl Masters, of Monongahela, and Norma Augustine of Monongahela; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred and brother-in-law, Andrew Hustava, of Bentleyville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred B. Stoneman Spinner, who died Nov. 15, 1997; two sisters, Anna and Marie; and two brothers, Sam and Albert. WILLIAM L. TUFANO

William L. ``Bill'' Tufano, 85, of Dunbar, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at the Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant. He was born April 15, 1914, in Dunbar, a son of the late Aniello and Mary Ann Chicozzi Tufano. He was a retired steel worker of Latrobe Steel Co. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army; a member of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Dunbar; and VFW Post #47, Uniontown. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Goodwin Tufano; his children, Ericca Tufano of Dunbar and Barry Tufano and wife, Tedi, of Connellsville; a sister, Philomena Pasden of West Virginia; his beloved grandson, Alex; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Also, he was predeceased by four brothers and a sister. PAUL E. WEAVER

Paul E. ``Hank'' Weaver, 79, of North Huntingdon, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at his residence. He was born Oct. 2, 1920, in Irwin, a son of the late Frank and Myrtle (Creighton) Weaver. He was a machinist for the Elliott Co. He was a member of the Westmoreland City Primitive Methodist Church, Westmoreland City Fire Department, Westmoreland County Fireman's Association, Mohawks, Shidle Lodge #601 F&AM, Manor Senior Citizens, and Meals-on-Wheels. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois J. (Abram) Weaver; a brother, Raymond Weaver; and four sisters, Caroline Hitchens, Dorothy Hitchens, Eleanor Weaver, and Lera O'Black. Survived by two daughters, Rebecca and husband, Stephen Hamilton, of North Huntingdon and Lori and husband, Corey Sechler, of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; a sister, Evelyn Jones of Jeannette; and four grandchildren, Chad and Erika Hamilton, and Karli and Katie Sechler. MILDRED F. WILCOX

Mildred F. Wilcox, 76, of Murrysville, on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999. Born Jan. 19, 1923, in Braddock, a daughter of the late Irvin and Stella Welsh Rittko. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Export. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Theodore; and two sisters, Edith Creighton and Alice Zimmerman. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Merle D. Wilcox; two sons, Merle D. Jr. ``Pete'' and wife, Judy, of Plum and Harry A. and wife, Linda, of Somerset; a daughter, Renee Baker and husband, Russell, of New Kensington; a brother, Irvin Rittko and wife, Gladys, of Export; three sisters, Ella Soles, Sally Lauer and husband, John, and May Hill and husband, Frank, all of Murrysville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
