Nannette M. Nicoll, age 96, of Milford, Conn., died Sunday, Aug. 13,
at Milford Hospital in Milford, Conn. She was the beloved wife of the late
Thomas J. Nicoll Jr.
Born on Aug. 27, 1903, in New York City, N.Y., she was the daughter
of the late Francis L. and Anna J. (Colum) Murphy.
Mrs. Nicoll was a resident of Milford for five months. Prior to that,
she was a resident of LaBar Village in Stroudsburg and Harrison, N.Y.
Mrs. Nicoll is survived by three sons, Thomas J. Nicoll III of Dade
City, Fla., Francis R. Nicoll of Milford, Conn., and Kenneth J. Nicoll
of Mount Pocono; one daughter, Barbara Nicoll Davis of Tahoe Vista, Calif.;
14 grandchildren; and 31 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one
brother, one sister, one grandson, and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Cody-White
Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street on the Green, Milford, Conn. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Agnes Church, Milford,
Conn. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne,
N.Y.

Hazel Werkheiser, age 89, of Stroudsburg, died Monday, Aug. 14, at
her home. She was the wife of the late Frank T. Werkheiser, who died in
1997.
Born on Jan. 18, 1911, in Rochelle Park, N.J., she was the daughter
of the late George and Marie (Michalski) James.
She was a member of Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, where she
was very active in the Mary Circle.
Hazel will be truly missed by her family, friends and neighbors for
all of her kind, thoughtful ways and her warm smile.
She is survived by one son Dale F. Werkheiser and his wife Yolanda,
of Stroudsburg; one daughter, Janet A. Garrahan of Garnerville, N.Y.; and
one sister, Geraldine Dean of Mountain Lake, N.J. She was preceded in death
by one brother, Roy James; and one sister, Myrtle Christie. She was loved
by her five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Thomas
Funeral Home, 401 North Fifth Street, Stroudsburg. Rev. George S. Rigby
and Rev. Thomas Anderman will officiate. Burial will take place in Stroudsburg
Cemetery. There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of the service,
at the funeral home.

Clinton C. Simpson, age 69, of India Palm Drive, Edgewater, Fla., died
Sunday, Aug. 13, at his home. He was the husband of Evelyn Simpson.
Mr. Simpson was born in Swiftwater. He was a resident of Stroudsburg
until moving to Edgewater, Florida 13 years ago.
Before his retirement, he was the owner of Clinton Simpson Drywall
Construction Company of Stroudsburg.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Clinton C. Simpson
Jr. of Stroudsburg; two daughters, Bonnie Colabaugh of Saylorsburg, and
Debra Smith of Edgewater, Fla.; three brothers, Harry Simpson of East Stroudsburg,
Clifford Simpson of Tannersville, and Raymond Simpson of Stroudsburg; one
sister, Mary Lou Wells of Swiftwater; five grandchildren; and four great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Calvin Simpson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Dudley
Edgewater Chapel, 433 North Ridgewood Avenue, Edgewater, Fla. Dr. William
Chegwin, pastor of The First Presbyterian Church, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
will officiate. Burial will take place in Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater,

Katherine "Katy" S. Kellogg, age 81, died Sunday, Aug. 6, at Island
Nursing Home, Deer Isle, Maine. She was the wife of the late Floyd W. Kellogg,
who died in 1997. They were married for 55 years.
Born on July 6, 1919, in Arden, she was the daughter of the late Frank
and Eva (Khutyk) Sokol.
Katy grew up and graduated from high school in Olyphant. She and Floyd
were married on Jan. 11, 1942. During World War II, she worked for the
war effort while her husband served overseas in the Army.
She moved to Stroudsburg in 1952 and worked for many years at Kellogg
Insurance Agency. She also worked for A.B. Wyckoff Department Store.
Katy was a wonderful homemaker, beloved wife and mother, and a very
giving person. She was an avid bowler, a Cub Scout den mother, and a varsity
"S" mother. She was a member of Stroudsburg United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, F. Woody Kellogg of Stroudsburg; one daughter,
June Kellogg and son-in-law James Straub of Brooklyn, Maine; three sisters,
Stephanie Lindemann of Archibald, Sonya Alleger of Emmaus, and Barbara
Marino of Jermyn; six nephews; and seven nieces. She was preceded in death
by one brother, Frank Sokol.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Thomas
Funeral Home, 401 North Fifth Street, Stroudsburg. Rev. Thomas Anderman
will officiate.

Toni Anne (Premus) Johns Singer, age 79, of Casselberry, Fla., died
on June 2, at her daughter's (Sandra Miller) home. She was the wife of
the late Edward (Lou) Singer, who died in February 1995.
Toni was a native of East Stroudsburg. She moved to Florida in November
1995, after the death of her husband.
Toni was a waitress most of her life, and the first female bartender
in Stroudsburg. She was a life-long member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church.
She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion
Auxiliaries.
Funeral services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at Stroudsburg
Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, at American
Legion Post 346, East Stroudsburg.
All family and friends are welcome to attend both the services.

Arlene F. Friebe, age 41, of East Stroudsburg, died Monday, Aug. 14,
at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late
John K. Friebe, who passed away in 1997.
Born on Dec. 14, 1958, in New York City, N.Y., she was the daughter
of Carolyn A. (Whitney) Yost of Deland, Fla. and the late James F. Yost.
A resident of Monroe County for 13 years, she previously lived in New
Jersey. She was a member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Marshalls
Creek.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one son, James A. Friebe
of East Stroudsburg; one brother, James A. Yost, husband of Jean M., of
Pleasanton, Calif.; and one sister, Jill M. Hutter, wife of Robert P.,
of Tracy, Calif.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at St. John's

City and Kunkletown, died Sunday, Aug. 13, at her home. She was the wife
of the late Walter McEntire.
Born on Aug. 30, 1924, in The Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of
Louis Motta and Dorothy (Hernkindt) Motta.
A former employer of Sears & Roebuck in Nanuet, N.Y., she was a

She was a homemaker.

Bruce S. Wright, age 56, of Stroudsburg, died Monday, Aug. 14, at his
home. He was the husband of Patricia (Matuszueski) Wright, with whom he
celebrated 34 years of marriage.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Walter Wright of Whiting,
N.J. and the late Elisabethe (VonLand) Wright.
He was a resident of the Stroudsburg area for the past 27 years. Prior
to that, he lived in the Branchhill and Blairstown, N.J. areas.
He was employed as the acting validation coordinator with Hoffmann
LaRoche Company of Belvidere, N.J., for the past 25 years, retiring in
1997.
He was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church of Stroudsburg.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by two sons, Leo
W. Wright of Pocono Summit, and Rev. Father Bryan Wright, associate pastor
of St. John's Evangelical, St. Casmir's and St. Joseph's Churches in Pittston;
one daughter, Pamela M. Wright of Stroudsburg; one sister, Frieda Wronowski
of Lakewood, N.J.; and one grandson, Leo (L.J.) Wright.

Rita M. Ryan, age 73, of Tannersville, died Monday, Aug. 14, at her
home. She was the wife of the late Lloyd Haun, who died in 1986.
Born in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary
(Kinney) Swatrz.
Rita was living in Tannersville for the past year. Prior to that, she
lived in the Milford area, for five years. In her earlier years, she resided
in the Florida and Honesdale areas.
She worked as a private duty caretaker for the sick and elderly, for
30 years. She was a member of Full Gospel Church of God of Stroudsburg
and Independent Assemblies of God International.
She is survived by three daughters, Carla Lentz and Sally Chubb, both
of Dingmans Ferry, and Gwendolyn Troll-Totten of Tannersville; two sisters,
Mary Simon of Clifton, N.J., and Gladys Blockberger of Honesdale; seven
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Joseph

Thomas J. Hermitt, age 69, of Scotrun, died Saturday, Aug. 12. He was
the husband of Patricia (Kearney) Hermitt.
Born in Exeter, he was the son of Joseph and Ann (Fedor) Hermitt.
As a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, N.Y., he
spent three years in the U.S. Merchant Marines before joining the U.S.
Navy. He retired from the Navy as a commander.
He was employed by the New York Telephone Company, retiring in 1988.
He was a past president of the Pocono Pioneer Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Charles Hermitt
of Edison, N.J., and Thomas P. Hermitt of Lake Grove, N.Y.; one daughter,
Ann Kessler of Ridgefield, Conn.; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth Hermitt,
Johanna Kessler, and John Charles Hermitt.

Richard S. Kolbek, of Mount Bethel, died on Saturday, at the Pocono
Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Linda (Manzione)
Kolbek, at home. They were married March 10, 1978. Richard will be missed
dearly.
Richard was born January 6, 1948 in Newark, N. J., the son of Richard
J. Kolbek of Albrightsville and the late Margaret (Budz) Kolbek. He was
a resident of Mount Bethel since 1988 and prior to that of Garfield, N.
J.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam
Era.
He was the supervisor in the United States Post Office, Saddle Brook,
N. J. for more than 32 years.
He attended the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Johnsonville.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by two sons, John
R. and Joseph R. Kolbek, both at home; two sisters, Kathleen Meno of Wallingford,
Conn. and Elaine O'Toole of Garfield, N. J.; two nieces and one nephew.

Mary Frances Barrie, 78, late of Birchwood Lakes, Dingman's Ferry,
died at Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
Mrs. Barrie was born in Astabula, OH on July 19, 1922. She married
Thomas Barrie on August 30, 1949. Mrs. Barrie was predeceased by one daughter
Christina Barrie on April 15, 1978.
Mrs. Barrie is survived by her husband, Thomas Barrie at home; four
daughters, Linda and son-in-law Robert McGuinness of Matawan, N.J., Patricia
Barrie of Milford, Diana and son-in-law Duane Renko of Akron and Doreen
Barrie at home; two sisters, Clara Gill and Emily Taylor both of Astabula,
OH; two grandchildren, Bobby and Tommy; and nieces and nephews.

Gregory W. Moyer, 15, of Shawnee-on-Delaware, died on Saturday evening
after collapsing during intermission of a Varsity Basketball game in which
he was playing.
Born on April 25, 1985 in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of John
R. and Rachel P. Moyer of Shawnee-on-Delaware. He was a lifelong resident
of Shawnee-on-Delaware.
Greg was an honor student at Notre Dame High School in the tenth grade.
He played soccer, basketball and senior league baseball. He recently took
up the game of golf and was fortunate enough to have scored a hole in one
at the Shawnee Inn Golf Course in early November. Greg attended the Pennsylvania
Rotary Leadership Camp sponsored by the Rotary Club of the Smithfields
this past June.
In addition to his school sports, Greg also was an avid snow-boarder
and enjoyed trout fishing. He was active in chorus, volunteered for the
American Cancer Society, the Shawnee Fire Company and was employed part-time
by Hilgert Construction and the Shawnee Inn Golf Course this past summer.
Known as Barry to his friends, he was a gentle giant with a dry sense
of humor and was proud of his accomplishments in school, sports and the
many friendships he made through athletics. He will be sorely missed by
his family and all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Katie and
Abbie Moyer, both at home; his maternal grandmother, Ann Morrissey, Alexandria,
Va.; an aunt, Patricia Morrissey, Alexandria, Va.; three uncles, Gregory
Morrissey, Los Angeles, Calif., William Moyer of State College and Robert
Moyer of Shawnee-on-Delaware; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 5 at 10 a.m. at
St. Matthew's Church, Ridgeway Street, East Stroudsburg. Burial will be
in Shawnee Presbyterian Cemetery.

Graydon Jennings, 63, of East Stroudsburg, died on Saturday in the
Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late
Jo-Ann (Schwarz) Jennings who died in 1999.
Born on June 26, 1937 in Delaware Water Gap, he was the son of the
late
John and Estella (Lambert) Jennings Sr. and had lived in the area
all of his life. He had worked for PennDot, Ronson and then for Patterson-Kelley
for thirty-one years before retiring in October 2000.
A 1955 graduate of Stroudsburg High School, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a former member of the Delaware Water Gap Volunteer Fire Company,
a member of Chemical Fire Co. of the Stroudsburg Fire Department; the Phoenix
Firemens Relief Association and the Four County Firemens Association.
He is survived by two daughters, Gale VanHorn and her husband Wayne
of Bartonsville and Tara Jennings of East Stroudsburg; a grandson, Jamie
Jennings VanHorn of Bartonsville; three brothers, Carl Jennings of Alexandria,
Va., Fred Jennings of Reeders and James Jennings of Delaware Water Gap;
four sisters, Norma Snow and Shirley Durick, both of Delaware Water Gap,
Janet Gearhart of Gilbert and Joanne Bartholomew of Stroudsburg and many
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Jennings
Jr.

Debra A. Cannon, age 43, of Kunkletown, PA, died Sunday in Kunkletown,
PA, as a result of an automobile accident.
She was born in Palmerton on April 26, 1957, and the daughter of Henry
W. and Lorraine (Serfass) Durkop of Kresgeville.
She was a member of Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kresgeville.
She had worked for the Pleasant Valley School District as a custodian
in the intermediate school for the past year. Prior to that she had worked
for Scottie's Fashions in Kresgeville for many years.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son: Terry H. Cannon
of Kunkletown; and a sister: Diane Durkop of Kresgeville.

Evelyn A. Miller, 90, of Stroudsburg, died Saturday in Laurel Manor
Nursing Home, Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Paul M. Miller
who died in 1985.
Born on March 17, 1910 in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the
late Frank and Anna (Slutter) Thompson and had lived in the area all her
life. She had worked as a cook at the former Walt's Diner in Stroudsburg
and was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Stroudsburg.
She was a former member of the Stroud Township Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary.
She is survived by four sons, Milton Miller, Raymond Miller, Paul Miller,
and James Miller, all of Stroudsburg; a daughter, Joy Smith of Lakeville;
a sister Shirlie Davis of Keystone Heights, Fla.; eight grandchildren,
twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 5, at 2 p.m. in
