GRANVILLE - Thelma A. Rittenhouse, 58, of the Malta Home Personal Care, Granville, formerly of Pine Glen, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at the Malta Home. Born April 20, 1943, in Bratton Township, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. Sr. and Sylvia E. (Rebman) Rittenhouse. Surviving are: brothers and sisters, Esther M. Grassmyer, Virginia R. Harshbarger, Paul M. Rittenhouse, Charles L. Rittenhouse, all of Lewistown RR, Gladys R. Bartlett, Simsbury, CT, Mrs. Glen (Helen J.) Espigh and James O. Rittenhouse, both of McVeytown RR, Mary M. Maxwell, Mattawana, and Mrs. Max (Hazel F.) Fisher, Lewistown; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, Ruth E. Ronk, Zana L. Hesser and Harry E. Rittenhouse Jr. She was employed at Skills of Central Pennsylvania Inc., Lewistown for many years. She was a member of the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren. She also attended the Pine Glen Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She liked to crochet. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Donald E. Peters Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery. Burton E. Ritter
LEWISTOWN - Burton E. Ritter, 79, of 2795 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown died at 6:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2001 at his residence. Born July 29, 1921 in Burnham, he was a son of the late James and Ella Mae (Shawver) Ritter. His first wife, Dorothy (Stuck) Ritter, preceded him in death in 1966. His second wife Betty (Druckemiller) Stine Ritter, whom he married in June of 1968, survives. Also surviving are: step-children, Mrs. Terry (Brenda) Colyer, Forest Edge Lane, Lewistown, Edward A. Stine Jr., Brundidge, Ala., Patricia A. Stine, McClure RD1, Randy Lee Stine, Headland, Ala., Michael Joseph Stine, Walnut Street, Lewistown and Lisa Stine, Longfellow; 10 step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. He worked as a laborer for Hawstone Brickyard and LeMac Foundry, retiring in 1972. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served in China, Burma and India. He was a member of the East Derry Fire Company, the Brooklyn Hose Company, and a member of the American Legion McClure Post No. 942. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. There will be no viewing, however, family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Monday until the time the funeral service at the funeral home.

Sylvester J. Ritter
LEWISTOWN - Sylvester J. Ritter, 93, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of Reedsville RR1 (Barrville), died at 4:15 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2001, at the nursing home. Born July 17, 1907, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Joseph and Emma May (Snyder) Ritter. His wife, Esther B. (Baumgardner) Ritter, died Aug. 13, 1960. His companion, Verna Jean Zimmerman of Lewistown, survives. Also surviving are: children, Harold Ritter, Anna Ritter, Virginia Gingerich, and William Ritter, all of Yeagertown, Russell Ritter, Alfarata, Charles Ritter, Chester, NJ., James Ritter, Daniel Ritter, Shirley LeFevre, Jackie Zimmerman and Anna Lee Zimmerman, all of Lewistown, Dennis Ritter, Philipsburg, NJ, Pat Rhodes, Willow Hill, and Peggy Ritter, Burnham; a brother, Paul Ritter, Lewistown; 45 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph F. Ritter on June 3, 1998. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was decorated with the European African Middle Eastern Medal with one Bronze Star. He worked as a custodian with the Mifflin County School District, retiring in 1971. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with the Rev. Gerald Peachey officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Murray Robinson
LEWISTOWN - Murray Robinson, 77, of 200 Fairway Place, Lewistown, died at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 12, 1923, in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Jean S. Worth. His wife, Patricia A. (Lilly) Robinson, whom he married May 31, 2000, survives. He was the last of his immediate family. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific Theatre. He was a retired purchasing manager at Industrial Pump Company in Englewood, NJ. Funeral services and interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Edward K. Robison
EAST WATERFORD - Edward K. Robison, 50, of East Waterford RR1, died at 2:47 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at his residence. Born Oct. 1, 1950, in Roaring Springs, he was the son of Hester (Benn) Robison of Hollidaysburg and the late Donald Robison. His wife, Barbara (McCloskey) Robison, survives. Surviving are: children, Adam E. Robison, Donald G. Robison and Katie Robison, all at home, and Angie M. Clouser, East Waterford RR1; brother and sisters, Charles E. Robison, East Freedom, Lois Fisher, Roaring Springs, Sharon Yingling, Puzzletown and Hester Dibert, Fairhope; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother. He was a mechanic for Ryder Transportation, Harrisburg. He attended South Juniata Baptist Church, Honey Grove. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the South Juniata Baptist Church, Honey Grove, with Pastor Dennis R. Thompson Jr. officiating. Interment will be in East Waterford Cemetery. MCALISTERVILLE - Nicholas Edward Rodriguez-Smith, infant son of Diane M. Smith of McAlisterville RR1, was stillborn at 8:01 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. He is survived by a brother, Cody Allen Reistline, at home; and a maternal grandmother, Ruth E. Boyle, Liverpool. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blue Ridge Gardens, 6701 Old Johnstown Road, Harrisburg, with Chaplain Cathy Janke officiating. Arlene G. Roe
MEXICO - Arlene G. Roe, 76, of Mexico, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Aug. 10, l924, in Milford Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Sylvia (Farleman Shotzberger) Roe. She is survived by two nieces and two nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. She did housework and babysat for people in the area. She was a member of Mexico United Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed cooking and reading. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 South Third Street, Mifflintown. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown. Harry J. 'Buzz' Roe
MIFFLIN - Harry J. "Buzz" Roe, 71, of HC 67, Box 181, Mifflin (Doyles Mills), died at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at his farm. Born July 9, 1930, in Lack Township, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Harry E. and Anna Marie (Campbell) Roe. His wife, Ruth E. (Wisehaupt) Roe, whom he married Jan. 12, 1953, survives. Also surviving are: daughters, Treva A. Kauffman, Mifflin and Wanda M. Geedey, Port Royal RR2; sisters, Mary Smith, Carlisle and Mrs. Leroy (Annabelle) Long, Port Royal; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Long. He was a farmer. He was a member of the Walnut Grange #776 and the Beale Township Fire Company. His service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. LEWISTOWN - Roy Rogers, 80, of 5 Folk Road, Lewistown, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, 276 Green Ave., Lewistown. Born Dec. 9, 1920, in Camden, SC, he was the son of the late Alexander M. and Ida O. (Hinson) Rogers. His wife, Anna J. (Folk) Rogers, whom he married April 2, 1949, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Michael (Linda S.) Silks, Steven A. Rogers, Dora D. Rogers, Mark A. Rogers, all of Lewistown, Mrs. Alan (Terry L.) Kulp, West Palm Beach, Fla., Douglas E. Rogers, Burnham, and Brian S. Rogers, Aspers; sister and brothers, Kathryn Goodson, Warner Robbins, Ga., Wofford Rogers and Levern Rogers, both of Camden, SC., and Raphul Rogers, North Carolina; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European and Pacific Theatres and was a recipient of a Purple Heart. He was employed at Marlette Homes from 1962-1972 and then was a cafeteria manager at Empire Kosher from 1975-1980. Funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Captain Eddie Purvis officiating. Ralph C. Roles
MCVEYTOWN - Ralph C. Roles, 82, of 455 Big Greenbriar Road, McVeytown, died at 6:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at J C Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born June 13, 1918, in Clay Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Charles N. and Edith (Booher) Roles. His wife, Edith V. (Scott) Roles, whom he married in March 1942, survives. Also surviving are: children, Charles T. Roles and David L. Roles, both of Big Greenbriar Road, McVeytown and Ralph D. Roles, Woodbridge, Va.; two sisters, Faye W. Peters, Lewistown and Betty Carl, Erie; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon V. Roles, a grandson, and brothers and sisters, Walter Roles, Melvin N. Roles, Charles A. Roles, Ruth Kephart, and Alice Roles. He had been employed by General Refractories in Mount Union on Jack's Mountain; by the Pennsylvania Department of Forest and Waters; by LC Anderson and Sons Inc.; by Laney's Feed Mill in Smithfield; and on the road crew for Wayne Township, Mifflin County. He had attended the Cedar Crest-Lucy Furnace Chapel. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting and farming. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with Pastor Sam King officiating. Interment will be in the Germany Valley Cemetery, Shirleysburg RR1. Margaret A. "Peg" Romig
LEWISTOWN - Margaret A. "Peg" Romig, 70, of 9 Chapel Dr., Lewistown, died at 10:08 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born June 17, 1931, in McKeesport, she was a daughter of Dorothy M. (Kramer) Hinkle Hartley of Milroy and the late Orville E. Hinkle. Her husband, Leonard M. Romig, whom she married on May 4, 1974, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Donald (Wendy) Fye and Larry M. Romig, both of Siglerville, Mrs. Dwain (Sandra) Lauver, Granville, Mrs. William (Glenda) Morrison, Milroy, and Mrs. Gary (Cindy) Morris, Elmira, N.Y.; brothers and sisters, Howard Hinkle, Alfarata, Mary Ellen Parson, Tulsa, OK, Earnest Hinkle, Huntsville, AL, and Gary Hinkle, Abernathy, TX; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Maddox. She was employed at Arrow Shirt Factory for 18 years and was a homemaker. Her services will be held at 10:30 am. Donald L. Ronk
MCVEYTOWN - Donald L. Ronk, 66, of Whispering Pines Personal Care Home, Bellefonte, formerly of McVeytown RR, died at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte. Born Feb. 24, 1935, in Mattawana, he was a son of the late Florence (Ronk) Kenepp. He is survived by a companion, Joyce Shawver, Whispering Pines Personal Care Home, Bellefonte. In his early years, he helped on his family's farm. He attended the New York Pilgrim Church, Howard. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Jay I. Roth
VIENNA, VA - Jay I. Roth, 59, of 8608 Acorn Circle, Vienna, VA, formerly of Belleville, died on Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at INOVA Mt. Vernon Hospital, Alexandria, VA. Born in Belleville on Dec. 19, 1941, he was the son of the late Irvin L. and Lena (Zook) Roth. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Peachey) Roth, whom he married on Aug. 13, 1966. Also surviving are: a daughter, Michelle Roth-Cline, Madison, WI; a brother and sisters, Leonard Roth, Pheonix, AZ and Sarah Ditweiler and Marjorie Yoder both of Fairview, MI. He was a graduate of Belleville Mennonite School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA. He was employed at Unisys Corporation for 18 years. He was a member of the Oakton Church of the Brethren in Vienna, VA. He sang with the Fairfax Choral Society for many years and avidly pursued interests in music, computers, and motorcycles. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Allensville Mennonite Cemetery, with minister Timothy Peachey officiating. The Donald E. Helen D. Rothermel
LEWISTOWN - Helen D. Rothermel, 88, of 27 Grand Parkway North, Lewistown, died at 9:15 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born June 12, 1912, in Snyder County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Lizzie (Yetter) Stimely. Her husband, Stanley H. Rothermel, died July 2, 1970. Surviving are a son and a daughter, Donald L. Rothermel and Helen Goddard, both of Lewistown; and two grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters, and a half brother. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown and the Order of the Eastern Star. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. There will be no viewing however, the family will receive friends following the service at a fellowship luncheon in the church social room. Samuel B. Rothrock Jr.
RICHFIELD - Samuel Barry "Jake" Rothrock Jr., 52, of Richfield RR1, died at 7 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2001, at Hershey Medical Center. Born May 7, 1948, in Richfield, Monroe Township, he was a son of the late Samuel L. Rothrock Sr., who died Dec. 10, 1998 and the late Freda Kathryn (Moad) Rothrock, who died May 29, 1996. Surviving are: a brother, Larry J. Rothrock, McAlisterville RR1; a sister, Mrs. Gilbert (Patricia L.) Close, Shermansdale; and six nieces and nephews. He was 1966 graduate of East Juniata High School, Cocolamus. He was employed for 24 years as an attendant for the Selinsgrove Center, until he retired on disability in 1999. He was Protestant by faith and a member of the Stony Run Mission Church, McAlisterville RR1. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed flowers and yardwork. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stony Run Mission Church, McAlisterville RR1, with the Rev. Raymond D. Neitz officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Frank J. Ross
ELMA, NY - Frank J. Ross, 77, of Elma, NY, formerly of Lewistown, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the South Buffalo Mercy Hospital, Buffalo, NY. Born Oct. 28, 1923, in Coraopolis, he was the son of the late Frank and Angeline T. (Condeloro) Ross. His wife, Dorothy (Gress) Ross, survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Christy Anne) Reling, East Aurora, NY; brothers and sisters, Marie Meloni and Fred Ross, both of Reedsville, Lucy A. Ross and Rocco A. Ross, both of Lewistown; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was a 1941 graduate of Lewistown High School, where he played basketball. He also graduated from Kent State University with a degree in accounting. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. He was employed by Kinney's Shoe Corporation for 39 years, retiring as a regional auditing manager on March 1, 1990. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Elma, NY and a member of the Elks Lodge 663, Lewistown for many years. He enjoyed watching baseball games and was an avid golfer. Gerald M. 'Joe' Rowles
MIFFLINTOWN - Gerald M. "Joe" Rowles, 74, of Mifflintown RR5 Box 25-R, died at 2:08 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001 at his residence. Born Dec. 23, 1926 in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late Violet (Rosenberry) Rowles. His wife, Dorothy (Book) Rowles, whom he married June 23, 1956, survives. Also surviving are: children, Gerald M. Rowles, Kathy M. Rowles, Candy J. Rowles Etter and Steven W. Rowles, all of Mifflintown, Penny J. Rowles, Carlisle and Sandy L. Rowles and Mrs. Richard (Danielle) Harvey, both of Honey Grove; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Lester (Janet) Wingert and Mrs. William (Judy) Henderson, both of Shippensburg, Mrs. Donald (Bonnie) Miller, Concord and James Rosenberry of California; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters. He was a truck driver for Roadway Express in Camp Hill for 22 years, before retiring in 1975 due to disability. He was a Protestant by faith. He was a member of the Mifflintown American Legion Post No. 298, and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 1299, Carlisle. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. Paul A. Royer
LEWISTOWN - Paul A. Royer, 54, of 111 N. Grand St., Lewistown, died at 3:14 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born May 15, 1947, he was the son of Sara (Brannan) Royer of Goss Terrace, Lewistown and the late Robert P. Royer. His wife, Betty Lou (Parker) Royer, whom he married Sept. 19, 1981, survives. Also surviving are brother and sisters, James Brannan of Mechanicsburg, Mary Gahagan and Mary Lee Rieffannacht, both of Lewistown. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert L. Ritter. He was a 1966 graduate of Lewistown High School. Early in life, he worked for Royale Dairy and then for Schneider Valley Farms, State College for the past 18 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church and the Teamsters Local 764. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Marickovic officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Helen S. Rozsas
POTTSTOWN - Helen S. (Zagorski) Rozsas, 93, of North Hanover Street, Pottstown, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born in Conchehocken, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Stella Zagorski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen S. Rozsas. Surviving are: children, Mrs. John S. (Pauline R.) Blackwell, Lower Pottsgrove Township, Mrs. David A. (Pamela A.) Varley, Lewistown, and Stephen S. Rozsas, Winter Haven, Fla.; two stepsisters, Mrs. Rev. Paul (Josephine) Faithful, Douglassville and Frances Swoyer of Pennsburg; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She worked for 25 years at the former Shuler Hotel, Pottstown. She was a member of St. Aloysius R.C. Church, Pottstown, where she was active with the senior citizen's group and worked in the kitchen for the Monday night bingo. She was one of the original and founding members of the Pottstown Area Senior Center, where she was active for many years. A prayer service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Catagnus Funeral Home, 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown, with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius R.C. CAMP HILL - William W. "Muddy" Ruhl, 9l, of Camp Hill, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Born Oct. 25, 1909, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Harry and Lillian (Steinmiller) Ruhl. His wife, Edna M. Ruhl, preceded him in death. He is survived by a daughter, Carol A. Bufala, Conshohocken; two sisters, Lillian Houtz, Lewistown and Sara Williams, Fleetwood; and one grandson. He was retired from the former Pomeroys Department Stores in Camp Hill and Harrisburg. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Camp Hill and was a member of the Lewistown Moose. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Myers-Harner Funeral Home, Camp Hill, with the Rev. J. Mac W. Rumberger
LIVERPOOL - Mac W. Rumberger, 76, of 2411 SR 17, Liverpool, died at 5 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at the Perry Village, New Bloomfield. Born Jan. 2, 1925, in Greenwood Township, Perry County, he was the son of the late William F. and Jean (Newlin) Rumberger. His wife, B. Jean Martin, whom he married Sept. 27, 1952, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Dane F. Rumberger, Millerstown; sisters, Virginia Dumm, Elliotsburg and Elizabeth Wright, Rural Millerstown; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Foster Rumberger and Newlin Rumberger. He was a 1944 graduate of Greenwood Joint High School, Millerstown. He was a lifetime farmer. He was a life member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church of Perry Valley, Millerstown RR1, a former president and member of church council, and had taught the Teenage Sunday School Class of the church for 10 years. He served as supervisor for Greenwood Township from 1972-1990. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church of Perry Valley, Millerstown RR1. Martha K. Rummel
ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Martha K. Rummel, 99, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Bon Secours Maria Manor, St. Petersburg, FL. Born July 7, 1901, in Shirleysburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Myrtle L. (Mellott) Kyper. Her husband, Clarence B. Rummel, died in 1981. Surviving are: children, Rev. Dr. Wallace B. Rummel, St. Petersburg, FL and Helen Louise Howard, Clearwater, FL; six grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Early in life, she was an elementary school teacher in Huntingdon County. She was also employed for eight years as a clerk in the Mifflin County Registrar's Office. She was a former member of the Lewistown Presbyterian Church; a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, St. Petersburg, FL; a 50 year member of the Mount Union Chapter 280 Order of the Eastern Star; Past Worthy High Priestess & charter member of the Lewistown Chapter 30, White Shrine of Galilee; and served on the Presbyterian Home Board. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Juniata Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dr. Wallace B. Rummel and the Rev. Daniel E. Rummel officiating. Benjamin D. Runk
MCVEYTOWN - Benjamin D. Runk, 76, of 152 Runk Lane, McVeytown, died at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at the Huntingdon Manor Nursing Home, Huntingdon. Born June 2, 1924, in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, he was the son of the late Fred and Ruth Virginia (Miller) Runk. His wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (Turbett) Runk, whom he married June 30, 1945, survives. Also surviving are: children, Bernard D. Runk, Ashland, Va., Nancy E. Gladfelter, Mill Creek, Kenneth S. Runk, El Paso, Texas; brother and sister, Glen Runk, Eustis, Fla. and Freeda Baker, McVeytown RR1; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Kenneth Runk, Luther Runk, and Helen Copley. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He retired from E. DeVecchis and Sons, State College in 1990 after 10 years of service. In his early years, he began Ben's Coal Yard and Trucking Co. in Smithfield and owned Ben's Restaurant and Diner 22 in Alexandria. He also worked at Harbison-Walker Refractories, Mount Union. He then owned both the Colonial Hotel and the Corner Room in Huntingdon and the Neu-Bridge Restaurant in Mount Union for many years. He was a member of Wayne United Methodist Church, McVeytown RR1. He was a life member of Huntingdon VFW Post; a former member of Huntingdon Lions Club and the Huntingdon Moose Lodge; and past president and member of the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Charlie Rhodes officiating. Interment will be in the Wayne Cemetery, McVeytown RR1. MCVEYTOWN - Lillian M. Runk, 83, of Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, died at 2:50 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown. Born Jan. 29, 1918, in McVeytown, she was the daughter of the late Russell E. and Millie (Rupert) Stine. Her husband, Hayden G. Runk, whom she married Oct. 22, 1938, died July 3, 2000. She is survived by a son, David S. Runk, Lewistown; a daughter, Elaine S. Richards, Cranford, NJ; three sisters, Zelda Madrick, Alfred, Maine, Mrs. Howard (Elma) Heckler, Hatfield, and Orpha Lou Kane, Clearfield; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren and the Shining Star Sunday School Class of the church. She was also a former deacon and trustee of the church. She enjoyed cooking and flower gardening. Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Spring Run Cemetery, McVeytown, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. MIFFLIN - Kathryn C. "Kate" Rupert, 72, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin, formerly of Valley Street, Lewistown, died at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Locust Grove. Born Dec. 7, 1928, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Homer C. and Annabelle (Hartsock) Colyer. Her husband, James M. Rupert, died March 10, 1986. Surviving are: children, Jolene Colyer and Robert Barlett, both of Lewistown; sisters and brothers, Mrs. William (Raeanna) Beers and Deborah Louder, both of Lewistown, Robert Colyer, Burnham and Fred Colyer, McAlisterville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Early in life, she worked at Corkins Restaurant and retired from Empire Kosher with 15 years of service. She was a member of the United Fire Company auxiliary, the Mifflin County Firemen's Association auxiliary, the Brooklyn Fire Company, the Women of the Moose, the Junction Fire Company, the Granville Fire Company auxiliary, and the City, Hook and Ladder Fire Company auxiliary. Born Feb. 13, 1917, in East Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Laura (Roberts) Quay. Her husband, Donald M. Rupert Sr., preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1982. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Mary Evelyn) Colledge Sr., Lewistown; two sons, Donald M. Rupert Jr., Lewistown and Thomas C. Rupert, Tuscon, AZ; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two sisters. She was employed by the Arrow Division of Cluett-Peabody, retiring after 25 years of service. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ladies of the Elks Auxiliary and Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Union Retirees. Rheam and Grace (Hockins) Aurand. Her husband, Robert M. Rush, died May 4, 1998. She is survived by a son, Timothy L. Rush, Newport and two grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one brother, Oliver Rheam and a son, Thomas M. Rush on Feb. 21, 1997. She was a homemaker. Glenn R. 'Bubber' Rush
MIFFLINTOWN - Glenn R. "Bubber" Rush, 73, of Mifflintown RR4 (Manbeck Heights), died at 11:46 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 15, 1927, in Newport, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Ruth B. (Clouser) Rush. His wife, JoAnn (Nace) Rush, whom he married Sept. 9, 1961, survives. Also surviving are two sons, Charles M. Rush, Mechanicsburg and Richard A. Rush, Mifflintown; two sisters, Shirley Seaman, Newport RR2 and Julia Alvarez, Sarasota, Fla.; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jane Barrick. He was a 1945 graduate of Newport High School. He was a veteran, serving in the Merchant Marines from November 1945 to May 1946; the US Army from January 1949 to January 1950 and in the United States Navy from January 1951 to December 1954. He was a past-commander of American Legion Post 177, Newport and the VFW Post 5863, Mifflintown. He was a field engineer with United Telephone Company, retiring in 1985. A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 South Third Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. William Esborn officiating. Following the service, full military honors will be provided by the Juniata County Veterans Council (at the funeral home). There will be no viewing. Dr. Carl T. Russ
VENICE, FL - Dr. Carl T. Russ, 83, of Venice, FL, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Bon Secours Hospital, Venice, FL. Born April 18, 1918, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Ralph and Caroline (Basile) Russ. His wife, Mary (Pacini) Russ, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Michael Russ, Virginia Beach, VA; a brother, Roger M. Russ, Venice, FL.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gina Steele. He graduated from Lewistown High School in 1935 and then received a Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia University in 1940 and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Temple University in 1943. He was appointed to the rank of Lieutenant (junior grade), U. S. Navy Dental Corps in 1943 and served honorably until his discharge from active duty and transfer to the Naval Reserve in 1946. He later served on the Military Manpower Commission in 1948. After his release from active duty, he maintained a private dentistry practice in Lewistown from 1946 through 1979. In 1972, he earned qualifications in real estate sales and appraisals. While in Lewistown, he was appointed to numerous local public service boards and commissions, as well as service on several corporate boards of directors. Upon his retirement, he relocated to Englewood, FL and, later, to Venice, FL. There, he continued his interest in real estate sales and marketing and passed the Florida state certification exam. Born Feb. 24, 1908, in Bratton Township, she was the daughter of the late Martha E. (Moist) Renninger and stepfather, the late Harvey Renninger. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, the late Aaron and Belle Moist. Her husband, Nelson I. Rutherford, died Sept. 4, 1973. She is survived by children, Rev. Carl N. Rutherford, Mifflinville, Phyllis R. House, Mrs. John (Shirley) McVey, and Gary N. Rutherford, all of McVeytown, and Stanley C. Rutherford, Lewistown; a sister, Hazel Eckert, McVeytown; 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Renninger. She was a homemaker. BEAVER SPRINGS - Catherine Mary "Kay" Ryalls, 64, of Riverwoods Nursing Center, formerly of Beaver Springs and Roslyn, died at 6:10 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Riverwoods. Born May 8, 1936, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Bernadette (Calzarette) Vizzaro. Surviving are: three daughters, Sharon R. Montgomery, Abington, Catherine M. Heintzelman, Beaver Springs and Constance L. Hughes, Lansdale; a brother, Nicholas Vizzaro, Willow Grove; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Giampietro. She was employed in the business office of Abington Memorial Hospital as an EEG technician and secretary. She also worked as an arranger for Kremp's Floral Shop, Willow Grove. She was a member of Christ Church, Beaver Springs and Faith Community Church, Roslyn. She loved sign language, reading and studying the Bible. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Faith Community Church, Roslyn with Pastor John P. Davis and the Rev. David Meckley officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn.
