Clara V. 'Cookie' Yarlett
CARLISLE - Clara V. "Cookie" Yarlett, 81, of Carlisle, formerly of Lewistown and Port Royal, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at the Sarah Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle. Born April 20, 1919, in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late Cheater and Rebecca (Raudabaugh) Garman. Her husband of 57 years, the Rev. Francis P. Yarlett, preceded her in death. Surviving are: sons, James L. Yarlett and David P. Yarlett, both of Carlisle; brothers, Paul, Walter, Marlin, Merle, Jessie, and Chester Garman, all of Carlisle; sisters, Mary Garman and Thelma Garman, both of Carlisle and Ruthie Kuhn, Boiling Springs; five granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; one step-grandson and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. She was a member of the Waggoners United Methodist Church, Carlisle; the Old Bellaire Chapter 375 Order of the Eastern Star; and the North Middleton Senior Citizens. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Waggoners United Methodist Church, 1055 Longs Gap Road, Carlisle, with the Rev. Tim Funk officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, North Middleton Township. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle. Edna Lorraine Yetter
MCCLURE - Edna L. Yetter, 66, of 16 E. High St., McClure, died at 10:42 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born May 10, 1934, in Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Genevieve (Gay) Leister. Her husband, Joseph A. Yetter, died Feb. 16, 1970. Surviving are: children, Mrs. James (Sharon) Snook, Kenneth E. Yetter, and Sherri J. Yetter, all of McClure and Joseph A. Yetter Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.; brothers and sisters, Genevieve Stull, Floyd Leister, Harold Leister, Darlis Fultz, Mabel Wagner, all of McClure RR, Jay Leister, Lewistown, and Gertie Wagner, San Antonia, Texas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, an infant daughter, and a brother, John J. Leister. She was a residential service aide for the Selinsgrove Center, retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dormantown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Clyde B. Singh officiating. Interment will be in Black Oak Ridge Cemetery II. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Harry W. Yetter
LEWISTOWN - Harry W. Yetter, 85, of 1833 Valley View Ave., Lewistown, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000 at Locust Grove Retirement Center, Mifflin. Born May 13, 1915 in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Samuel and Sarah Margaret (Kauffman) Yeatter. His wife Edith (Yoder) Yetter preceded him in death on March 3, 1985. Surviving are: children,Mrs. Ronald (Sara) Casner and Sandra Yetter, both of McClure, Lola R. Yetter, Lewistown and Larry J. Yetter, East Waterford; a brother, Howard Yetter, Seal Rock, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Samuel H. Yetter on May 19, 1999, and by two brothers and four sisters. He was employed by Standard Steel, Burnham, where he retired after 44 years of service. After retirement from Standard Steel, he sold produce at the Golden Mile Farmers Market in Burnham. He was a member of Paintersville CMA Church. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. George H. Mark officiating. Interment will be in Paintersville CMA Church Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

George W. Yocum
MIFFLINTOWN - George W. Yocum, 82, of Cedar View Apartments, Mifflintown, died at 1:55 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2000, at home. Born Aug. 12, 1917, in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late William J. and Emma Jane (Hersh) Yocum. His wife, Wilma J. (Hostler) Yocum, whom he married Feb. 26, 1945, survives. Also surviving are: a son, the Rev. George Clifton Yocum, Everett' a sister, Mary Musser, Mifflintown RR2; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Elmer, Mortimer and Charles Yocum, and by sisters, Olive Yeater and Violet Yocum. He worked for 28 years at Hawstone Brick plant until it closed, and at Mexico Forge until it closed, retiring in 1985 from Mann-Edge Tool, Lewistown. After retirement, he worked at Lyon Fashions, McAlisterville, as a night watchman. He was a member of Arch Rock United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Edwin Rohrbeck officiating. Interment will be in Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown RR2. Elizabeth I. Yoder
MIFFLINBURG - Elizabeth I. Yoder, 77, of Mifflinburg RR2, died at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2000 at Rolling Hills Nursing Home, Millmont RR1, where she had been a resident for six months. Born Dec. 9, 1923 in Mifflintown, she was a daughter of the late Clayton and Minnie (Brubaker) Lauver. her husband Leon D. Yoder, whom she married May 17, 1952 survives. Also surviving are children, Kenneth Yoder, Lewisburg, Dale Yoder and Steven Yoder, both of Lititz, Robert Yoder, Sunbury, Kathy Hackenberg, Middleburg and Darlene Gemberling, Mifflinburg, sisters, Anna Saner and Ellen Apple, both of McAlisterville, and Bessie Frymoyer, Mifflintown, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Chester Lauver, Raymond Lauver, Clayton Lauver and Ruth Graybill. She attended McAlisterville High School. She worked at L. Shellenberger and Sons garment factory, McAlisterville, until she was married, after which she was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting and flower and vegetable gardening. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Delaware mennonite Church, Thompsontown RR1. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Eugene I. Yoder
BARBERTON, Ohio - Eugene I. Yoder, 60, of 1043 West Hopocan Ave., Barberton, Ohio, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at his home. Born April 10, 1940, in Belleville, he was a son of the late David J. and Pauline E. (Hostetler) Yoder. Surviving are: children, David Yoder, Montoursville, Mrs. Tony (Becky) Combs, Norton, Ohio, and Mrs. Lee (Jeri) Confer, Williamsport; stepchildren, Jeff Williams and Angie Smith; sister and brothers, Barbara J. Egan, York, Harry R. "Bud" Yoder, Williamsport, and Herbert L. Yoder, Estes Park, CO; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl W. "Wally" Yoder. He was a retired truck driver for CR Crane and Rigging Company of Jacksonville, FL. He was a member of the Christian Church in Cogan Station and attended Grace Church of Norton in Ohio. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, 3813 W. Main St., Belleville, with the Rev. Harry R. "Bud" Yoder officiating. G. Allen Yoder
ALLENSVILLE - G. Allen Yoder, 69, of 50 Water St., Allensville, died at 2:52 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born July 17, 1931, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Jacob P. and Saloma N. (Peachey) Yoder. His wife, Anna Margaret (Peachey) Yoder, whom he married Jan. 2, 1954, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Lynn (Susan) Newcomer, Emporium, Jay A. Yoder, Huntingdon RR2, Mrs. Darrel (Arlene) Byler, Allensville, and Mrs. Craig (Beth) Finkbiner, McAlisterville; sisters, S. Esther Yoder, and Barbara E. Yoder, both of Belleville, Mrs. Marvin (Anna Mary) Byler, Centerport, Mrs. James (Marian) Payne, Heathsville, Va., and Mrs. James (Rebecca) Walters, Chula Vista, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Saloma P. Yoder and brothers, John E. Yoder and J. Edwin Yoder. He retired in 1997 as an estimator in the construction department of Allensville Planing Mill after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Locust Grove Mennonite Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher for 50 years, an elder for 15 years, a song leader, a chorus leader, and served on the church building committee. He was also the chairman of the Allensville Municipal Authority, member and chaplain of the Allensville Fire Co., served two terms on the Valley View Retirement Community Board, and most recently served as the building inspector of the new addition of the Valley View Retirement Community. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church, Belleville, with the Rev. Max Zook, the Rev. Mayard Beitzel and the Rev. Erie Renno officiating. Gerald E. 'Gerd' Yoder
PORT ROYAL - Gerald E. "Gerd" Yoder, 77, of Port Royal RR1, died at 1:58 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC 67 Mifflin. Born Aug. 22, 1923, in Spruce Hill Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Noah Hertzler and Mary Ellen (Souders) Yoder. Surviving are: a companion, Vera Knepp, Lewistown; brothers and sisters, C. Hugh Yoder, Brookline Manor, Mifflintown RR1, Dean S. Yoder, Port Royal RR1 and Gladys Y. Snyder, Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Y. Gilson on July 30, 2000. He was a retired equipment operator and worked for Spruce Hill Township on road maintenance for a number of years. He served one and a half terms as a supervisor for Spruce Hill Township. He was a member of the Matamoras United Methodist Church, Port Royal RR1. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. Frank J. Swartz officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. BELLEVILLE - Lydia M. Yoder, 82, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, died at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Valley View Haven. Born June 17, 1918, in Belleville, she was a daughter of the late Henry M. and Annie K. (Peachey) Zook. Her husband Jesse C. "Tinner" Yoder, died Feb. 19, 1999. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Paul (Delores) Knepp, Allensville, Anna Marinos, Lewistown, Mrs. Eugene (Judy) Heide and Mrs. John (Joyce) Yoder, both of Buhler, Kan.; sisters, Mrs. Roy (Lizzie) Yoder and Mrs. Joseph (Evalena) Zook, both of Belleville; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Leah Barbara Yoder on Jan. 25, 1943, and by brothers Urie H. Zook and John J. Zook. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Allensville Mennonite Church, and Hannah's Helpers Sunday School Class. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Allensville Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Mildred E. Grassmyer Yoder
MCVEYTOWN - Mildred E. Grassmyer Yoder, 90, of the Rothrock Apartments, West Holiday Street, McVeytown, died at 2:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born June 28, 1910, in Roaring Springs, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Amanda (Smith) Claar. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Lloyd Grassmyer, whom she married in August of 1961, died March 1, 1979 and Guy S. Yoder, whom she married in 1980, died Dec. 29, 1985. Surviving are: a daughter, Jacqueline M. Barth, McVeytown; stepchildren, Samuel Yoder and Betty Hartsock, both of Lewistown, Mrs. Donald (Shirley) Swigart, Carlisle, Mrs. Rodney (Linda) Laub, Jersey Shore, and Mrs. Lee (Marjorie) Gill, Winfield; a sister, Beulah Smith, Ohesson Manor, Lewistown; three granddaughters; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cloyd Claar and Jacob Claar. Early in life, she was employed at the American Viscose Corporation and later worked as a waitress at Cargill's Restaurant for 28 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Donald E. BELLEVILLE - Samuel C. "Milliken Sam" Yoder, 92, of 95 S. Kishacoquillas St., Belleville, died at 3:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at his home. Born Aug. 26, 1908, in Reedsville, he was the son of the late Christian B. and Fannie E. (Kauffman) Yoder. His wife, Arie E. (Byler) Yoder, died May 13, 1969. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Sollie (Anna) Hostetler, Mary Kurtz, Esther Peachey, Samuel L. Yoder, and Mrs. David (Arlene) Spicher, all of Belleville, Mrs. Ben (Elsie) Yoder, Millersburg, Mrs. John (Beulah) Kauffman, and Raymond W. Yoder, both of Reedsville, David W. Yoder, McVeytown, Mrs. Leon (Frances) Kanagy, Marion, Marlin Yoder and John Yoder, both of Buhler, Kan.; sisters, Fannie Yoder, Lititz, Sue Peachey, Goshen, Ind., and Nora Yoder, Belleville; 50 grandchildren and 120 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Lydia Sharp, Annie Stoltzfus, Barbara Peachey, Jonathan Yoder, Levi Yoder, Nancy Yoder, Mary Yoder, and Lizzie Yoder; an infant brother; one grandson and three great-grandchildren. He retired from New Holland in 1970 after 29 years in the foundry. He was a member of Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church. MCALISTERVILLE - Seth T. Yoder, 78, of McAlisterville RR2, died at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at his home. Born March 7, 1922, in Allensville, he was the son of the late Seth and Hettie (Peachey) Yoder. His wife, Emma (Swarey) Yoder, whom he married Dec. 14, 1944, died March 17, 1983. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Jonas (Susie) Petersheim, Mrs. Roman (Sarah) Troyer, Hettie Brewer, Mrs. Dan (Lena) Weaver, Jacob Yoder, Dave Yoder, and Mrs. David (Anna) Weaver, all of Mifflintown; Mrs. John A. (Lydia) Troyer, Freemond, Mich., Christ Yoder, Alaska, Stephen Yoder, Kore Yoder, and Seth Yoder Jr., all of McAlisterville; a sister, Mary Swarey, Stuarts Draft, Va.; 54 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katie Yoder; brother and sisters, Rufus Yoder, Lizzie Peachey and Annie Byler. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Daniel Weaver residence, Mifflintown RR2, with Joe Swarey and John Petersheim officiating. Interment will be in the Old Order Amish Cemetery, Van Wert. Brendan Robert Young
MIFFLINTOWN - Brendan Robert Young, infant son of David R. and Lesa M. (Detra) Young of Mifflintown was stillborn at 12:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He is also survived by maternal grandmother, Helen M. Detra of Mifflin; paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, George and Nancy Gross of Liverpool; maternal great-grandmother, Helen M. Jones, of Mifflin; three aunts and one uncle. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bethany Elizabeth Love, and a grandfather, Timothy A. Detra. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Douglas Kelley officiating. There will be no viewing. Virginia J. Zeiders
NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Virginia J. Zeiders, 71, of Naperville, Ill., formerly of Mifflintown and Thompsontown, died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2000, at her residence. Born July 2, 1929, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob D. Miller and Esther L. Knepp. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy D. Bashore, Naperville, Ill.; a son, Gary R. Zeiders, Mifflintown; a sister, CeCelia Dippery, Santa Clara, Calif.; and one granddaughter. She was a 1947 graduate of Lewistown High School. She had been employed as a seamstress for Shellenberger & Sons Shirt Factory, McAlisterville and Cluett-Peabody (Arrow) Shirt Factory, Lewistown. She retired from the Pennsylvania Bureau of Business Taxes. She was a member of the PSECU Retirees and AARP as well as a former member of the Metropolitan Area Singles, Harrisburg. She was also a volunteer for the Naper Settlement, Naperville, Ill. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Polly Milakovic officiating. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Mifflintown RR4. William H. Zeigler
REEDSVILLE - William H. Zeigler, 70, of 17 Overhill Road, Reedsville, died at 1:42 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at his residence. Born July 31, 1929, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Frank C. and Margaret (Jones) Zeigler. His wife, Mary (Diven) Zeigler, died Sept. 24, 1991. Surviving are: children, William M. Zeigler, Church Hill, Reedsville and Mrs. Wayne (Lisa K.) Addleman, Nashville, Tenn.; and one grandchild. He was a self-employed electrician and plumber. He attended Church Hill United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Lewistown Elks Lodge 663; the Nittany Lions Club; the Fame Fire Co.; the City, Hook and Ladder Fire Co.; the Yeagertown Fire Co.; the Masonic Lodge 203 F&AM; the Jaffa Temple, Altoona; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon; the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Harrisburg; the Potters Mills Vets; and the Milroy American Legion. Edward C. Zendt
DUNCANNON - Edward C. Zendt, 80, of 388 Linton Hill Road, Duncannon, died at 4:10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000 at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. Born April 3, 1920 in McCoysville, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Elsie (Woodward) and Edward Whitney Zendt. His wife Doris (Weimer) Zendt, whom he married Sept. 21, 1946, survives, residing at 388 Linton Hill Road, Duncannon. Also surviving are: sons, Gary L. Zendt, Hampton, Va. and James E. and Donald R. Zendt, both of Mechanicsburg; a brother and sister, Paul Zendt, Camp Hill and Mrs. Martha Stump, Fullerton Calif.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in South America and Panama. He worked as a pipefitter for Conrail in Enola before retiring. He was a former member of the American Legion, Duncannon. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Rex Funeral Home, 308 Market St., Port Royal, with the Rev. Marton J. Roberson officiating. Helen B. Zimmerman
PORT ROYAL - Helen B. Zimmerman, 62, of Port Royal RR2, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at her home. Born July 19, 1937, in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Mary (Wagner) Fultz. Her husband Marlin H. Zimmerman, whom she married April 9, 1945, died Oct. 16, 1999. Surviving are: daughters, Yvonne S. Arnold, Port Royal, Terry D. Rhea, Mifflintown RR2, Renee M. Graybill, Port Royal RR1 and Darlene C. Leach, Thompsontown RR2; brothers, George Fultz, Thompsontown, Charles C. Fultz, Reedsville and Sherman Q. Fultz, Mifflintown; sisters, Hilda Elder and Rebecca Burd, both of Mifflintown, Athalia Specht, Lewistown and Bertha Pennepacker, Belleville; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta K. Zimmerman, on Aug. 7, 1954; a sister, Sylvia Cherry and a brother, Nicholas Fultz. She was privately employed as a housekeeper. She was a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church, Port Royal and Women of the Moose, Lodge No. 925, Millerstown. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Port Royal Lutheran Church, 408 Market St., Port Royal, with the Rev. Marton Roberson officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, Mifflintown RR3. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown and there will be no viewing at the church on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Helen B. Ellis Robert Zook
ANNISTON, Ala. - Ellis Robert Zook, 72, of Anniston, Ala, formerly of Belleville, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2000, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Ala. Born Sept. 1, 1927 in Belleville, he was a son of the late Joseph B. and Martha (King) Zook. Surviving are: a daughter and son, Mrs. Chris (Debbie) Bobo, Gadsden, Ala. and James Zook, Piedmont, Ala.; brothers and sisters, Joseph A. Zook, Belleville, Dorothy Yoder, Lewistown and Irene Yoder, Whitehall; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Melvin S. and Ivan J. Zook. He served 23 years in the United States Army, having served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He owned and operated an appliance company in Anniston, Ala., and he had been an instructor in the Chemical School at Fort McClellan, Ala. for 10 years. He was a member of the VFW since 1946, having served one term as district commander and four terms as post commander. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Anniston, Ala with the Rev. Bob Pope officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Kenneth J. 'Stub' Zook
MILROY - Kenneth J. "Stub" Zook, 57, of 34 Randall Drive, Milroy, died at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 at Lewistown Hospital. Born June 5, 1943 in Milford, Dela., he was a son of the late Ivan J. and Viola M. (Meredith) Zook. His wife Carol S. (Riden) Zook, whom he married April 11, 1964 survives, residing at 34 Randall Drive, Milroy. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Jeff (Timi) Narehood and Mrs. Donny (Toni) Attick, both of Reedsville and Mrs. Craig (Kelli) Johnson, Mrs. Doug (Nikki) Kahley, and Brandi Zook, all of Milroy; brothers and sisters, Robert I. Zook and James E. Zook, both of Belleville, Mrs. John (JoAnne) Smith, McVeytown and Mrs. James L. (Barbara) Haines, Spring Mills; and eight grandchildren. He worked as a supervisor at the welding and press and shear departments at New Holland in Belleville from 1965 until his retirement in July of 1998. He was a 1961 graduate of Kishacoquillas High School. He was a Methodist by faith. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church Hill United Methodist Church, 199 Woodland Circle, Reedsville, with the Rev. Richard J. Bender and the Rev. Douglas D. Sabin officiating. Private interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing.
