RENOVO — Karen A. Bower, 52, of 155 Clinton Ave. died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, in Bucktail Medical Center. She was employed by Wal-Mart in Montoursville and Lock Haven for six years. She was employed at Weis Markets for nine years. She was a 1967 graduate of Lock Haven High School. Born May 15, 1949, in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of William Dale Sr. of Avis and Shirley D. Giminiani of Lock Haven. Surviving are her parents, a son, John T. Bower of Roanoke, Va.; a daughter, Lori A. Bower of Lock Haven; a companion, John E. Gamble of Renovo; three brothers, David B. Giminiani of San Antonio, Texas, William L. Dale Jr. of Lock Haven and Rick A. Dale of Beech Creek; two sisters, Cindy E. Paulus of Niagara Falls, N.Y. and Wendy L. Welshans of Mill Hall; and six grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Walker’s, 231 High St., Flemington, with the Rev. James Van Zandt officiating. Kirk Anthony Byers, Accident Victim
Kirk Anthony Byers, 27, of Bridge Avenue, Allenwood, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, in an automobile accident on Route 15 in Clinton County. He was employed by Berwick Industries in production for three days. He previously was employed by the Bull Run Inn, Lewisburg, and Byers Blueberry Farm, Allenwood. He was a 1991 graduate of Warrior Run High School. He attended the Williamsport Area Community College, now Pennsylvania College of Technology and received a degree in printing from the Hiram G. Andrews Trade Center, Johnstown. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, horticulture and animals. Born Aug. 24, 1972, in Lewisburg, he was a son of Gleonard E. “Ed” Byers Jr. and Susan M. Brown Byers. Surviving are his parents of Allenwood; a sister, Kaylyn L. Reyner of Milton, N.Y.; and maternal grandparents, Darwin and Rose Brown of North Jackson. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Gleonard E. Byers Sr.and Vincie I. Byers. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ranck’s, Milton, with the Rev. Douglas M. Eberly officiating. Internment will be in Milton Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
 

Dr. James York Glimm
Dr. James York Glimm, 58, of Jackson Township died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at home. He was an English professor at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. Arrangements are being handled by Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St. Mansfield.
 

Raoul R. Koch, Accident Victim
Raoul R. Koch, 27, of 717 Cherry St. died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, in an automobile accident on Route 15 in Clinton County. He was employed by Berwick Industries, Berwick. He was a 1992 graduate of Williamsport Area High School and a graduate of the Hiram G. Andrews Trade Center, Johnstown. He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Born Dec. 24, 1972, in Haverhill, Mass., he was a son of Norman L. and Pamela K. Wertz Koch. Surviving are his parents of Linden; his fiancee, Karen Buggy of this city; four brothers, Bradford G. of Salisbury Beach, Mass., Robert W. of Linden, Christopher A. of Linden and Terry L. in Florida; and maternal grandparents, Raymond and Myrtle Wertz of Linden. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Max W. Furman, pastor of Elimsport United Methodist Church, officiating. R. Mark Logan
CANTON — R. Mark Logan, 35, of Canton RR 1 died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, in Canton Township. He was a self-employed veal farmer for many years and was employed by C.A.F. Inc., Canton. He was a 1983 graduate of Canton High School. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and riding snowmobiles. He was on the wrestling team in high school. Born Oct. 26, 1964, in Blossburg, he was a son of Janice Roupp Brown and Robert Logan. Surviving are his wife, Kenya; two sons, Dustin and Cody at home; his parents, Janice and Milton Brown of Canton; maternal grandparents, Vandyne and Grace Roupp in Florida; paternal grandmother, Mabell Avery of Grove; two sisters, Lisa Castle and Theresa Brown, both of Canton; a brother, Scott Brown of Canton; two half-brothers, Donald Brown of Canton and Marty Brown in Tennessee; three nieces; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive, with the Rev. Duane Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Beech Flats Cemetery, Canton Township. Laura Y. Peake
WELLSBORO — Laura Y. Peake, 94, of Wellsboro RR 3 died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, in Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center. Her husband, Milton G. Peake, died in 1989. She was a retired schoolteacher and Tioga County auditor. She was a Tioga County Republican committeewoman and member of Mary Wells Chapter 452, Order of the Eastern Star, Wellsboro, and Charleston Valley Grange 54. She received an over-50-year consecutive voting plaque from the State of Pennsylvania. She graduated from Covington High School in 1922 and Mansfield Normal School, now Mansfield University. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Born Sept. 3, 1905, in Covington, she was a daughter of Frederick and Lottie Ferry Youmans. Surviving are three daughters, Helen West of Wellsboro, Beverly Kiely of Denver, Colo., and Carol M. Turner of Severna Park, Md.; a son, Merrill H. Peake in Colorado; two sisters, Margaret Stratton of Wellsboro and Bertha Rolfe of Troy; a brother, Elwin Youmans of Covington; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Peake; three brothers, Vernon, Fremont and Kenneth Youmans, and a sister, Irene Youmans. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church, 130 Main St., with the Rev. Dr. Robert K. Greer officiating. Internment will be in Welsh Settlement Cemetery. Norma A. Allabach
WATSONTOWN — Norma A. Allabach, 78, a borough native, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at the home of her sister, Jean A. Fisher of White Deer, following a six-week illness. She retired in 1974 after 33 years from the Philco-Ford-Zenith Corp. She a member of the First Lutheran Church. She was a member of the National Wildlife Federation. She was a 1939 graduate of Watsontown High School. Born Dec. 27, 1921, she was a daughter of Jesse M. “Jack” and Florence M. Gold Allabach. Surviving, besides her sister, are a companion, LaRue Yost of McEwensville; a niece and five nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Thelma Metzger; and a brother, Charles Allabach. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Cronrath’s, 308 Main St., with the Rev. Dr. Terrence Goad officiating. Burial will be in Watsontown Cemetery. WATSONTOWN — Thelma V. Gauger, 91, of Watsontown RD 2 died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000. She and her husband, Curtis W. Gauger, celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary Sept. 27. She was employed 34 years by Sears and Roebuck, Milton. She was a 1927 graduate of Milton High School. She was a past worthy matron and member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge 77, and a past member of the Soroptomist Club, both at Milton, and the McEwensville Garden Club. She was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, Milton, and had attended Messiah Lutheran Church, McEwensville. Born Oct. 11, 1909, at Kill Deer, she was a daughter of Jacob C. and Mary E. Herald Snyder. Surviving, besides her husband, are a brother, Marshall Snyder of Muncy; three nieces; and four nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Glenward; and a sister, Isabel Beckly. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ranck’s, 125 N. Front St., Milton. Internment will be in Milton Cemetery. Dr. James York Glimm
MANSFIELD — The funeral is Friday for Dr. James York Glimm, 58, of Mansfield, who died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Marjorie Kuentz-Hoffman Glimm. A Mansfield University of Pennsylvania English professor of 30 years, he wrote “Flatlanders and Ridgerunners” in 1982 and “Snakebite” in 1991. He received his doctorate from the University of Texas in 1968. Born May 20, 1942, in Mineola, N.Y., he was a son of James M. and Dorothy York Glimm. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Bronwen Glimm of Wellsboro and Alyssa Glimm of Kutztown; two sons, Gavin Glimm in Australia and Jordan Glimm of Blossburg; two stepdaughters, Coty Hoffman at home and Kristin Albaugh of Williamsport; two sisters, Nancy Glimm of New York City and Barbara Glimm of Garden City, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. at Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St., with the Rev. James Palmer officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
 

Gordon Earl Hendricks
FLEMINGTON — Gordon Earl Hendricks, 87, of 301 Wright St. died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Susque-View Home and Health Center, Lock Haven. He and his wife, the former Elizabeth I. Herman, observed their 34th wedding anniversary March 16. His first wife, the former Alberta Temple, died in 1942. He retired in 1978 from the Hammermill Paper Co. He was a member of B.P.O.E. 182, Lock Haven, the National Square Dancers Association, the Keen Club in Woolrich and the Hammermill Retirees Association. He was a member of the Blanchard Church of Christ. Born June 26, 1913, in Marsh Creek, he was a son of David H. and Mary Ellen Wagner Hendricks. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Jere Lynn Kline of Bellefonte and Sandra A. Johnson of Horseheads, N.Y.; two stepsons, A. Robert Kelley and Thomas E. Kelley of Bucyrus, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a stepson, Wayne O. Miller; and two brothers, George I. and G. Marlin Hendricks. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wetzler’s, 320 Main St., Mill Hall, with the Rev. Russel J. Moldovan, his pastor, officiating. Internment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Robert A. Knittle, Business Owner
Robert A. Knittle, 36, of 910 Ward St. died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000. He was the owner and operator of Knittle’s Country Corner. He was a member of the Sons of American Legion Post 104. Born Oct. 10, 1963, in this city, he was a son of John F. and Sara Bower Knittle. Surviving, besides his mother and stepfather, Norbert Crouse of Williamsport, are two brothers, David G. Knittle of Erie and John F. Knittle of Hughesville; and three sisters, Debra J. Schreiber of Dillsburg, Elizabeth A. Terry of Harrisburg and Anita L. Crouse of Loysville. A private graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Montoursville Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.

RENOVO — Madeyln Long, 47, of 350 Huron Ave died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at home. She was graduate of Renovo High School. She was a social member of the American Legion here. She was a member of Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Born July 30, 1953, in Renovo, she was a daughter of Charles B. and Gertrude M. Saltsman Long. Surviving are three brothers, Charles B. Long of Renovo and Richard and Doug Long, both of New Cumberland; and two sisters, Pamela Long of Camp Hill and Laura Long of New Cumberland. She was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Ann McGaha and Jean Marie Putnam; and a stepfather, Delmar Putnam. A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Donald G. Nice officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St.
 

Rosalind M. Young
Rosalind M. Young, 63, 1705 Richards Ave. died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at home. She and her husband, Dale W. Young, observed their 43rd wedding anniversary May 4. She was a teacher’s aid for 18 years for Loyalsock Township School District. She was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Williamsport Country Club. She was a member of Faxon-Kenmar United Methodist Church. She graduated from South Williamsport High School in 1955. Born March 22, 1937, in South Williamsport, she was a daughter of Robert W. Sr. and Margaret Pendergast Miller. Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Michele Daskivich of this city; a son, Michael J. Young of Dallas, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Joshua Young and Taylor and Tiffany Daskivich. The funeral will be at noon Thursday in the church, 1351 Clayton Ave., with her pastor, the Rev. Ronald O. Doan, officiating. Internment will be in Montoursville Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers. Friends may call at Noll’s, 1 E. Victoria Zarate
Victoria “Jaime” Zarate, 74, of 1535 Grampain Blvd. died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. She and her husband, Ralph C. Zarate, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary July 9. She was a homemaker. She was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed sewing and quilting. Born June 30, 1926, in Johnstown, she was a daughter of Joseph and Marcellena Jaime. Surviving, besides her husband, are two daughters, Dolores J. Mayer of this city and Victoria Jean Zazarine of Mulberry, Fla.; two brothers, Victor Jaime of Washington, D.C., and Sal Jaime of Tombstone, Ariz.; two sisters, Lena Ramirez and Gloria Cornell, both of Johnstown; and four grandchildren, Cotton and Ben Mayer, Trina Smith and Christopher Zazarine; and three great-grandchildren.
