Ruth A. Comfort
WELLSBORO – Ruth A. Comfort, 78, a resident of Pinnacle Towers for
two years, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000 at the home of her daughter, Judy
Zuchowski of Princeton Street. Her husband of 56 years, Raymond Comfort,
died in 1994. Born Aug. 30, 1921, in Cortland, N.Y., she was a daughter
of Sarah and John Kenyon. Surviving, besides her daughter, are a son, Jerry
of Lakeland, Fla.; another daughter, Carol Meskunas of York; two brothers,
Robert Kenyon of Troy and Jack Kenyon of Mansfield; a sister, Laura Beals
of Blossburg; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral
will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., with the Rev.
James Truax officiating. Burial will be in Tioga County Memorial Gardens,
Charleston Township. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m.
Tuesday.
Floyd P. Norman
BLOSSBURG — Floyd P. Norman, 83, of Clarence Center, N.Y., formerly
of here, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000. His wife, the former Margaret B. Kwasneski,
died Dec. 23, 1990. Retiring in 1981, he was employed 43 years at the Ward
Foundry. He was a member of Blossburg United Methodist Church. He was a
member of the Hillside Rod and Gun Club and a social member of the Supreme
Sacrifice Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8730. He was a member of Blossburg
Kiwanis, the Williamsport Consistory, Blossburg Lodge 350 F&AM and
was past deputy grand master of the 17th masonic district. Born Aug. 22,
1916, in Arnot, he was a son of James J. and Laura King Norman. Surviving
are a niece, Dawn Snearly with whom he lived, and several others nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. The
funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Zwicharowski’s, 314 Granger St., with
the Rev. Joyce Treas officiating. Friends may call the funeral home from
1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Grace I. Stevenson
MILTON — Grace I. Stevenson, 68, of 50 Mahoning St., Milton, died Friday,
Aug. 18, 2000, in Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. She was employed
by the Milton Shoe Co. and was a foster grandmother at the Life Skills
Classes at Milton Junior High School. She was a member of the Moose Auxiliary,
Eagles Auxiliary, and V.F.W. Auxiliary, all of Milton; and the Ladies Home
League of the Milton Salvation Army. Born Oct. 26, 1931, in Watsontown,
she was a daughter of Frank Lyons and the former Rachel Foulk. Surviving
are a brother, Ronald Lyons of Bismark, N.D.; and a sister, Doris Cope
of Sunbury. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Monday at Cronrath’s, South Second and St.
Louis streets, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Jerry L. Caswell of Friendship
Baptist Church officiating. Burial will occur at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Watsontown

William F. Berry Sr
JERSEY SHORE — William F. Berry Sr., 89, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000,
at Manor Care Health Center. His wife, Catherine Lynch Berry, died in 1991.
He retired from Penn Central Railroad in 1973 after 30 years of service.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway and Steamships and the Knights
of Columbus. He attended the Church of St. Luke. Born June 28, 1911, in
Clearfield, he was a son of James F. and Catherine Buckley Berry. Surviving
are two sons, William F. Jr. of Charles Town, W.Va. and Thomas Patrick
of Moline, Ill.; two daughters, Ann B. Eck of Jersey Shore and Sara Jean
Hallas of Coal Valley, Ill.; a brother, Thomas of Clearfield; two sisters,
Gertrude Dohner of Clearfield and Marie Klein Becker of Barberton, Oh.;
nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a
son, James Michael. A mass service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at
The Church of St. Luke, with the Rev. Andrew Hvozdovic. Internment will
be in Valvar Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Dennis Hadberg

Karen A. Bower
RENOVO — Karen A. Bower, 52, of 155 Clinton Ave., died Friday, Aug.
18, 2000, at Bucktail Medical Center. She was employed by Wal-Mart in Montoursville
and Lock Haven for six years. She also was employed at Weis Markets for
nine years. She was a 1967 graduate of Lock Haven High School. Born May
15, 1949, in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of William Dale Sr. of Avis
and Shirley D. Giminiani of Lock Haven. Surviving are her parents, a daughter,
Lori A. Bower of Lock Haven; her companion, John E. Gamble of Renovo; three
brothers, David B. Giminiani of San Antonio, Texas, William L. Dale Jr.
of Lock Haven and Rick A. Dale of Beech Creek; two sisters, Cindy E. Paulus
of Niagara Falls, N.Y. and Wendy L. Welshans of Mill Hall; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Walker’s, 231 High St., Flemington,
with the Rev. James Van Zandt officiating. Internment will be in Cedar

Leona Fazler
GREENSBURG — Leona Fazler, 87, of Greensburg, formerly of this city,
died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Presbyterian-University Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was the wife of Daniel L. Fazler. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran
Church, Montoursville. Born Oct. 21, 1912, in Montoursville, she was a
daughter of Royal and Sara Dangle Fisher. Surviving, besides her husband,
are a son, Karl D. Fazler of Linden; a daughter, Karen L. Plank horn of
Greensburg; three brothers, Jack, Carl and Charles Fisher, all of Cogan
Station; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service
will be held at a later date in Montoursville. Arrangements are being handled
by Pantalone’s, 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg.
Mary E. Fister
LINDEN — Mary E. Fister, 87, of 290 Front St., died Sunday, Aug. 20,
2000, at home. Her husband, Ardell P. Fister, died in 1982. She retired
from Neyhart’s Inc. and was previously employed by Younkin’s Store, Linden.
She was a member of the Linden Presbyterian Church and the Senior Citizens
at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Newberry. Born March 24, 1913, she
was a daughter of Clinton and Marguerite Hagerman Willits. Her mother died
when she was 3. She was reared by her stepmother, Cora Willits. Surviving
are a daughter, Barbara A. Baney of Avis; a sister, Dorothy Quiggle of
Cogan Station; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral
will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev.
Darlene K. Little, pastor of Bethel Presbyterian Church, officiating. Internment

Jane E. Hager
LOCK HAVEN — Jane E. Hager, 86, of Lock Haven, died Sunday, Aug. 20,
2000, at Lock Haven Hospital. Her husband, Harold Hager, died in 1978.
She was employed in the nursing profession at Jersey Shore Hospital, Lock
Haven Hospital and Dr. William Long’s office. She was a member of the Flemington
United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School.
She was an avid bowler. Born June 3, 1914, in Jersey Shore, she was a daughter
of Merritt F. and Erma L. Bullock Taylor. Surviving are two brothers, George
Taylor of Apopka, Fla. and Herbert Taylor of Mill Hall; and several nieces
and nephews. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Helt Hanna
Kline’s, 232 Hogan Boulevard, Mill Hall. Internment will be in Rest Haven
Memorial Park, Woolrich. The family will provide the flowers. Friends may

Anna C. Stein
TAMAQUA — Anna C. Stein, 76, of Zehners Crossing, Tamaqua RR 3, died
Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale. She
was the wife of Harry Stein. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran
Church. Born in Rush Township, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of
Rudolph and Helen Haldeman Rother. Surviving, besides her husband, are
four sons, Robert F. Stein of Muncy Valley, George M. Stein of New Ringgold,
David J. Stein of Tamaqua and Mark S. STein of Augusta, Ga.; a brother,
Franklin Rother of Tamaqua; three sisters, Dorothy Epler, Pearl Davis and
Betty Connely, all of Tamaqua; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Christopher H. Stein; a brother, Rudolph
Rother; and a sister, Marie Epler. A Rite of Christian burial will be 11
a.m. today at Zizelmann’s, 500 E. Broad St., with the Rev. Fred Crawford
officiating. Internment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Roscoe Ritter Wilson
WELLSBORO — Roscoe Ritter Wilson, 95, of Wellsboro, formerly of Liberty
and Dover, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, in the Williamsport Hospital.
He was retired from the state highway department and had previously owned
and operated a dairy farm in Liberty and later worked hauling milk for
farmers in the Liberty and Morris areas. He was a member of the Wellsboro
Loyal Order of the Moose and of the Lutheran faith. Born June 9, 1905,
in Wellsville, N.Y., he was a son of the late Stewart and Margaret Ritter
Wilson. Surviving are five daughters, Mary Lou Ramsey, Benson, A.Z.; Phyllis
Crabbs, Dover, P.A.; Joan Weeks, Tucson, A.Z.; Donna Fish, Brocton, N.Y.;
Sharon Herb, Liberty; a son, Ronald Wilson, Liberty; 26 grandchildren;
49 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; several step great-great-grandchildren;
and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a
daughter, Dorothy Bohart, in 1992, and three brothers, Millard, Fordyce
and Wayne. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Salem Lutheran
Church, in Liberty Township, with the Rev. Daniel May officiating. Burial
will be in Salem St. Paul Cemetery, Liberty Township. Friends may call

Gertrude Sarah Zarr
Gertrude Sarah Zarr, 80, of Texas, formerly of Muncy, died Saturday,
Aug. 18, 2000, at the Muncy Valley Hospital emergency room. Her husband,
Wilbert D. “Bud” Zarr Jr. died in 1973. She was the owner of Zarr’s Beauty
Supply, Muncy. She was retired from Lysock View, now Valley View Nursing
Center. She collected antiques. Born March 20, 1920, in Clearfield, she
was a daughter of William H. and Clara M. Crain Smith. Surviving are two
daughters, Elsie M. Sweger of Lancaster and Sherry L. Ohnmeiss of Richmond,
Texas.; four brothers, William H. Smith of Valley View Nursing Center,
Paul Smith of Cogan Station and Francis and Tucker Smith, both of Muncy;
six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by
two brothers, Mearl and Clarence Smith; and a sister, Edna Lupold. The
funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St.,
Hughesville, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Edwards, pastor of St. Andrew Evangelical
