Wayne LaRue Cryder, 49, of 112 W. Melrose St., Marion Heights, a Jersey
Shore native, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at home following an illness
of two months. A baker, he had been disabled for the past four years. He
and his wife, the former Tammy L. Bitler, were married 21 years on July
14. He was a graduate of the Milton Hershey School, Hershey. He was a Lutheran.
Born May 8, 1951, he was a son of Mervin John and Caroline Randecker Cryder.
Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Donald and Nathan, both of Schuylkill
Haven; his stepfather and mother, Gerald and Caroline Umstead of Montgomery;
four sisters, Ruth Little of Daly City, Calif., Joyce Lane of Brooksville,
Fla.; Crystal Smith of Turlock, Calif., and Kimberly Thompkins of Montgomery,
and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at noon Thursday
in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery RR 2. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are being handled by Kelley’s, 1001 W. Arch St., Shamokin.
Leah E. Dwulet
LOCK HAVEN— Leah E. Dwulet, 77, of 18 Parkwood Drive, Lock Haven, formerly
of Shamokin, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, in Lock Haven Hospital.Her husband,
Harry F. Dwulet, Jr., died Feb. 28, 1981. She was a homemaker. Born, April
9, 1923 in Shamokin, she was a daughter of Amos and Sarah Heim Lahr. She
was predeceased by three sisters, Pearl Wehry, Carrie Neary, and Kate Miller,
and two brothers, Clarence and Raymond Lahr. Surviving is a son, Gregory
Dwulet, with whom she lived. A private funeral will be held at the convenience
of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Helt Hanna Kline’s, 232
Hogan Blvd. Mill Hall.
Joseph N. Searfoss Sr.
WELLSBORO — Joseph N. Searfoss Sr., 62, of Wellsboro RR 2, died Saturday,
Aug. 12, 2000, in Soliders and Sailors Memorial Hospital after a lengthy
battle with cancer. He and his wife, Jane A. Alexander Searfoss, observed
their 38th wedding anniversary April 21. He was co-owner and operator of
Seal’s Building Supply, Blossburg, and Hill’s Creek Truss Co., Wellsboro.
He previously was manager of the Wellsboro and Troy Acme Markets. He was
a member of the Wellsboro Moose chapter. Born April 9, 1938, in Sayre,
N.Y., he was a son of Joseph F. and Anna L. Bourdette Searfoss. Surviving,
besides his wife, are a son, Joseph N. of Wellsboro; a daughter, Polly
Getgen of Wellsboro; four brothers, Harold and Ronald, both of Waverly,
N.Y., Robert of Beaver Dams, N.Y. and David of Corapolis; five sisters,
Helen Rimbey of Gillett, Joanne Jones of Painted Post, N.Y., Beverly Russell
and Florence Vernon, both of Waverly N.Y. and Lois Wood of Alster; two
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a
brother, Paul, and a sister, Ruth. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday
at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., with the Rev. Kenneth Kitzmiller officiating.
Internment will be in Wellsboro Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral
home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Nancy M. Starkweather
MIDDLEBURY CENTER — Nancy M. Starkweather, 55, of Middlebury Center
RR 2, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, in Robert Packer Memorial Hospital,
Sayre. She and her husband, Thomas L. Starkweather, observed their 39th
wedding anniversary in December. She was employed by Wundies, Inc., Wellsboro
Division, for more than 20 years. She was secretary of Niles Valley Cemetery.
He was a member of Antrim Baptist Church. Born Oct. 5, 1944, in Wellsboro,
she was a daughter of Anna Hughes Smith and Clarence W. Smith. Surviving,
besides her husband, are a son, Randy L. Starkweather of Middlebury Center;
a daughter, Cindy Turner of Frederick, Md.; her mother of Antrim; and seven
brothers, Richard, Walter and Rick Smith, all of Antrim, Eugene, Jerry,
and Bernard Smith, both of Wellsboro, and Thomas Smith of Mansfield. She
was predeceased by brothers, Ronald and Robert Smith. The funeral will
be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 130 Main St., Wellsboro, with
the Rev. Dennis Crumb officiating. Internment will be in Niles Valley Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
