Mrs. Geraldine M.L. Stern, 85, of Kunkletown
R.2 died Wednesday in
her home. She was the widow of Frank R. Stern.
Mrs. Robert P. Bolton
Mrs. Ruth E. Bolton, 67, of Effort died
Wednesday in her home. She
was the wife of Robert P. Bolton. They observed
their 15th wedding
anniversary last January. She was a secretary
for Aircomco, Edison, N.J.,
for 30 years before retiring in 1984.
Mrs. Chester A. Hoffman
Mrs. Esther Hope Hoffman, 78, of Hometown,
Tamaqua R.2, died
Thursday evening in her home. She was the wife
of Chester A. Hoffman.
They were married 53 years. A graduate of Allentown
High School in 1936
and Kutztown University in 1940 in elementary
education, her first job
was as a teacher in a one-room school in Beartown,
Lancaster County. She
later taught first grade in the Perkasie School
District. She moved to
Tamaqua in 1961 and taught as a substitute in
the Tamaqua area schools.
She was one of the first head start teachers
in 1966 in Ss. Cyril and
Methodius School in Coaldale and later in Nesquehoning.
Mrs. Iva S. Rose
Mrs. Iva S. Rose, 87, of Cresco, died Wednesday
in the Brookmont
Health Care Center, Effort. She was the widow
of Earl S. Rose, who died in
1988. Prior to retiring, she worked for Seguines
Dress Store, Stroudsburg;
Rea and Derrick Drugstore, Mountainhome; and
the Buck Hill Falls Dress
Tony J. Merkel
Tony J. Merkel, 85, of 1485 Hazard Road,
Palmerton, died Thursday in
Palmerton Hospital. He was the husband of Helen
M. (Vengrin) Merkel. They
observed their 61st wedding anniversary in August.
He retired in 1976
after 25 years as a laborer for Bethlehem Steel
Corporation and previously
was self-employed in the beer distribution business
and bowling alley
Dr. John Solan
Dr. John Solan, 73, of Whitehall Township
died Thursday in Lehigh
Valley Hospital Center, Cedar Crest. He was the
husband of Kathryn
(Oleksa) Solan. They observed their 45th wedding
anniversary in July. He
was a dentist in Whitehall from 1953 until retiring
in 1987. A pioneer in
the use of hypnosis for dental procedures, he
was elected president of the
Lehigh Valley Society of Hypnology in 1961. The
deceased was an Army
veteran of World War II.

Mrs. Emma S. Webb, 77, formerly of Palmerton,
died Sunday morning
in The Highlands at Wyomissing, Berks County,
where she resided for the
past four years. She was the widow of Sidney
E. Webb Esq., who died in
1978. She taught physical education and was a
guidance counselor in
Palmerton Area School District for 44 years before
retiring in 1984

William E. "Bill" Wall, 69, of Box 1287,
Barnesville R.1, died
Saturday in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was the husband of
Gayle (Fritchman) Wall. He was employed by General
Electric in Allentown
for 33 years and later worked for Black and Decker,
Allentown, for two
years before retiring. Wall was a Navy veteran.
Mrs. Daniel Weiksner
Mrs. Mary Weiksner, 65, of 1 W. High St.,
Coaldale, died Sunday in her
home. She was the wife of Daniel Weiksner. They
were married for 42
years. She and her husband operated the former
Juggy's Bar and Grill,
Coaldale. Previously she was employed by the
Davidson Furniture Store,
Anna Olexa, 76,of 214 W. Railroad St.,
Nesquehoning, died Sunday in
her home. She worked for the former Lansford
Sportswear before retiring

home. She was the widow of
Horace R. Bowers. She was an elementary teacher
in the Allentown School
District for 25 years before retiring in 1958
from the Muhlenberg School.

was the husband of the late Myrtle S. (Strawn)
Silberman. He was a
custodian for the Allentown School District working
at the Central School
for 12 years before retiring in 1977, and previously

1981, and previously was a coal miner for Lehigh
Coal and Navigation Co.

an Army Air Corps veteran of

N.J., from 1964 to
'74; and was a truck driver for the former Ballantine
Brewery, Newark, N.J.
from 1947 to 1962. Ballard was a Navy veteran

Lehighton. He was the husband of Pearl "Mary"
(Diehm) Miller. They
observed their 46th wedding anniversary on Feb.
18. He and his wife owned
and operated the former Bernice Ann Fashions
on Broadway in Jim Thorpe
for 27 years before retiring in 1986. He later
worked as a consultant for
other garment factories in the area. Prior to
going into business he worked
for various garment factories in Jim Thorpe.
Combined, he worked 47
years in the local garment industry.

He was the husband of
