Clarence Gilbert
Agra resident, Clarence E. Gilbert, 74, died Monday, March 26, 2001,
in Agra.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Lawson Cemetery
north of Yale.
Palmer Funeral Home of Cushing is directing the arrangements.
He was born in Yale Jan. 1, 1927, to Cecil and Julia (Jardot) Gilbert.
He lived his early years in Yale where his mother and stepfather Frank
Stewart raised him as a Stewart. When he was 17 he joined the Navy and
had to take back the Gilbert name.
On Feb. 5, 1947, he married Earline McCartney.
He served overseas during World War II. In 1951 he joined the Marine
Corps and served at Camp Pendleton, Calif. After the Marine Corps he served
in the Army Reserve.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW and was commander of American Legion
Post 108 in Cushing. He was a construction worker and lived many places
during his life.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, James, of the home
and Callen, of Agra; four daughters, Reta Slay, of Cushing, Judy Choate
of Sunrise, Fla., Kathy Ragland, of Artesia, N.M. and Susan Fugate, of
Agra; two sisters, Betty Rowland, of Cushing and Jean Tilley, of Ramona;
and 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives
and friends.

Emma Lou Chaffey
Emma Lou Chaffey, 71, of Cushing, died Sunday, March 25, 2001. Services
are Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Full Gospel Assembly of God Church. Interment
will follow at Union Cemetery. Rev. Lamont Henderson will officiate. Interment
will follow in the Union Cemetery. Davis Funeral Home is directing the
services.
She was born Dec. 20, 1929, to Derrill E. Cardin and Fannie Belle (Wolfe)
Cardin in Cushing. She was married to E.C. Chaffey.
She was reared and educated in Cushing and later in Schenectady, New
York. She returned to Cushing in 1996 after being away for 50 years.
She was a member of the Full Gospel Assembly of God Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Charles
Green; and one sister, Deloris.
She is survived by one sister, Glenna Thomas of Golden Valley, Ariz.;
several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

George Shenold
George Roy Shenold, 91, Jennings, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Lawson Cemetery
in Yale. Rev. Mike Clark will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under
the direction of Poteet Funeral Home.
Shenold was born Jan. 1, 1910, in Quay to Notsee Shenold and Mable Mae
(Charlton) Shenold. He married Stella Mae (Sneed) Shenold Jan. 1, 1939,
in Hallett. To this marriage, Shenold had three sons, Melvin Edward Shenold,
Dale Roy Shenold and Thomas Keith Shenold. He later married Floy K. (Reese)
Shenold Aug. 30, 1987, in Stillwater. Shenold was a lifetime resident of
Pawnee County. He was a Hallett Baptist Church and a Mason. Shenold was
a widely known coyote hunter and dog breeder. He had the National Champion
July at one time and had judged the National July Hunt. He served as Pawnee
County Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff for many years. He was a farmer and rancher
all his life and loved the horse and cattle business.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Vina Adkison; brother,
Melvin Shenold; and a grandson Chism Keith Shenold.
Shenold is survived by his first wife, Stella Shenold, Jennings; second
wife, Floy Shenold, Jennings; three sons, Dale Shenold and wife Judy, Yale;
Tom Shenold and wife Robbie, Stillwater; Melvin Shenold, Hallett; two step-sons,
Jerry Wilson and wife Darlene, Stillwater; Johnny Wilson and wife Judy,
Enid; step-daughter, Kay Trivitt; brother, Oran Ray Shenold, Glencoe, plus
numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives
and many friends.

Michelle Kropp
Michelle Denise Kropp, 38, Stillwater, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001,
at her home.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the Grace Fellowship Church
in Tulsa. Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the First
United Methodist in Stillwater with Rev. Stan Warfield officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ninde Funeral Home in
Tulsa.
Kropp was born March 2, 1963, in Tulsa to Mary Jo Gray Kropp (Klabzuba)
and Michael Owen Kropp. She grew up in Tulsa and Sand Springs. Kropp moved
to Stillwater in 1987. She received her education from Hissom Memorial
Center in Sand Springs. She was a member of the First United Methodist
Church in Stillwater, the Faith Class Member, and was a part of the Stillwater
Group Homes since 1987. Kropp worked at Hideaway Pizza and the Payne County
Sheltered Workshop.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Jo Klabzuba and husband Charles,
Broken Arrow; father, Michael Kropp and wife Judy Kropp, San Clemente,
Calif.; brothers, Michael Kropp and family, Braggs; and Christopher Kropp
and family, Tulsa.
Kropp is also survived by residents and staff of Stillwater Group Homes
and many, many friends.
Memorials can be made to the Judith Karman Hospice, Faith Class or First
United Methodist Church.
Ruth Bell
Longtime Pawnee resident, Ruth Ella Bell, 71, died Wednesday, March
28, 2001, at her home.
Services, with Rev. Milton Colbert presiding, will be Saturday at 2
p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Pawnee. Interment will follow at Highland
Cemetery.
She was born in Sapulpa July 11, 1929, to Josh and Igetta (Green) Callaway.
She married Joseph Johnson. On Jan. 11, 1970, she married Cornelius
(Bootney) Bell in Pawnee.
She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.
She began working at the Pawnee Municipal Hospital in 1968 and retired
in 1982. She later returned to part time work and worked in housekeeping
until she became a nurse’s aide.
She used good judgment, always did her share of work, was loved and
respected by her fellow workers, doctors, friends and especially her family.
She enjoyed cooking and caring for her family, going to basketball games
and watching her children and grandchildren. She also loved to bake for
her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, two husbands, grandsons, step-daughter,
Lurline Seyillano, and step-sisters, Betty and Susan Elston.
Survivors include four daughters, Tammy Bell Todd, Kathrine “Kitty”
Stewart, both of Pawnee, Ella Johnson, of Stillwater, and LeAnn Bell, of
Winfield, Kan.; four sons, Cornelius Bell, of Wichita, Kan., Terry Johnson,
William “Skzzie” Johnson and James Johnson, all of Pawnee; step-children,
Chris Bell, of Pawnee, Joshua Bell, of Wichita, Kan., Quilla Dean Bell,
of S.C., Lois Powell, of Wichita, Kan. and Willie Davis, of Pawnee; grandchildren,
Gary, Garland, Gabe Stewart, of Pawnee, Candi Johnson, of Stillwater, Crystal,
Terra, Marcus, Marquitta, of Tulsa, Terri Johnson, of Cleveland, William,
Lynett, Cierra and Jesse Johnson, of Tulsa; and Whitney, McKalay, Ruth,
Jasonin Todd, of Pawnee; great-grandchildren, Trey Stewart, of Tulsa, and
Darwin Stewart, of Pawnee, Moria (Ballard) Stewart, of Pawnee; two step-brothers,
John and David Green, of Pawnee; two step-sisters, Marie Bitts and Opal
Logan, both of Calif.; and a number of relatives and many friends.
Ruby Mary Johnson
Ruby Mary Johnson, 79, died on Thursday, March 29, 2001 at the Cushing
Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Highland
Cemetery in Oilton. The Rev. Tony Black will officiate. He is the pastor
at the Park Place Baptist Church in Cushing. Services are under the direction
of Davis Funeral Home.
Johnson was born on Nov. 11, 1921 in Cleveland to Cecil O. Lookebill
and Ruby E. (Barnes) Lookebill. She married Teddie Johnson on August 5,
1971 in Cushing. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2001.
She is survived by her sister Claudine Tamage, Drumright; one brother
Cecil Lookebill, Muldrow; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and
friends.
Nora Stubblefield
Nora Thelma Stubblefield, 91, Cushing, died Thursday, March 29, 2001
at her home.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Palmer Funeral Home
Chapel. Interment will follow at the Osage Cemetery south of Agra. Funeral
arrangements are under the direction of Palmer Funeral Home.
Stubblefield as born on Aug. 11, 1909 in Agra to Lester and Myrtle
(Hubbard) Anderson.
She received her early education in Agra. She was married to Loyd Raymond
Oliver on Dec. 31, 1930 in Chandler. They made their first home in Agra.
They lived in Mehan prior to moving to Ripley in 1943.
After the death of Mr. Oliver she was married to Virgil Leroy Stubblefield
on Nov. 7, 1986. She was employed at the OSU Student Union as head cook
for 14 years, retiring in 1975. She also cooked for Green Thumb.
She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, three brothers,
Floyd, Howard and Lonnie Anderson; one sister, Lorene Cook; one infant
son; and son-in-law, Harvey Thompson.
Stubblefield is survived by two sons, Jim and Billie Oliver, Texarkana,
Ark.; Dennis and Eloise Oliver, Perkins; two daughters, Helen Bullard,
Oklahoma City; Corene Thompson, Cushing; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren,
and three great-great-granddaughters.
Johnnie M. Morris
Johnnie M. Morris, 86, Cushing, died on Thursday, March 29,2001, at
the Cushing Memorial Hospital.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mt. Olive Baptist
Church in Cushing. Elder Luke Maze will officiate. Interment will follow
at the Silver Star Cemetery East of Cushing. Services are under the direction
of Palmer Funeral Home.
Morris was born on Nov. 24, 1914 in Lincoln county to Dave and Rosa
(Butler) Morris. He was a life-long resident of the Cushing area. He was
married to Fallis Worley, Cushing, on Dec. 14, 1936.
A farmer, he was a member of the Church of God in Christ.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Samuel Morris; and
one daughter, Mary Ann Morris.
Morris is survived by his wife Fallis of the home; five sons, Marvin
Morris, Phoenix, Ariz.; Joseph Morris, Cushing; Lugene Morris, Oklahoma
City; Ezell Morris, Oklahoma City; Nathaniel Morris, Billings, Mont.; six
daughters, Jessie Revels, Enid; Pearl Brown, Oklahoma City; Addie Morris,
Eagle Butte, South Dakota; Betty Morris, San Diego, Calif.; Loretta Ritters,
Cushing; Gloria Boyd, Cushing; two brothers Melvin Morrison, Cushing; Odell
Morris, Duncan; one sister Elizabeth Worley, Phoenix, Ariz.; and 39 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Lemuel Morris, Jason Morris, J.R. Morris, Joseph
Revels, Ben Morris, Richard Revels, LeRoy Brown, and Mounty Morris.
Mary Merrifield
Mary C. “Fern” Merrifield, 101, rural Enid, died on Thursday, March
29, 2001.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Waukomis
Cemetery.
Merrifield was born on July 11, 1899 in Farmington, Mo., to the Rev.
M. M. and Sarah (Shy) Munger.
She moved to the Indian Territory with her family in 1900 and attended
Enid High School and Enid Business College. She married Fred R. Merrifield
on Oct. 15, 1919 in rural Perry. They celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary.
She and her husband resided in Woodward, Stillwater, Washington, D.C.
and Wichita, Kan., before returning to the Merrifield Family Farm south
of Enid in 1960.
They adopted three sons.
She was a longtime active member of Valley View Home Demonstration
Club.
Merrifield is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Merrifield; son
Fred Merrifield, Jr., M.D.; daughter Carol Merrifield Gyles; and two grandsons,
Christopher Gyles and David A. Merrifield.
She is survived by her daughters, Velma Davis, rural Enid; Herbert
and Fern Van Gieson, Wichita, Kan.; grandchildren Elmo M. Davis, Wichita,
Kan.; Kate Lindamood, Burleson, Texas; Glenn P. Davis, Plano, Texas; Joan
Pollard and Donna Merrifield, Monument, Colo.; Charles W. Merrifield, Wichita,
Kan.; Fred D. Merrifield, Cleveland; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
