Zelma Roberts
    Zelma Ernestine Roberts, daughter of George Wesley and Tempie Mae (Kuykendall) Wright was born November 24, 1922 in DeQueen, Arkansas.  She departed this life on January 24, 2002 at Memorial Hospital at the age of 79 years, one month and 29 days.
    Ernestine was married to Carl Fred Roberts on September 3, 1942 and to this union three children were born:  Charles, George and Sue.  
She was a cook for many years working in restaurants, factory cafeterias and hospital cafeterias.
    Ernestine enjoyed her family and the duties that followed her role as wife, mother and grandmother.  She also cherished the fellowship of close friends.  She was a longtime member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended when her health permitted her to.
    Her parents, her husband of 58 years,  one sister and brother-in-law Margie and Woodrow Wade, preceded her in death.
    She is survived by a loving family that includes two sons, Charles Roberts and wife Cindy of Stilwell, George Roberts and wife Bertie of Stilwell; one daughter Sue White and husband Larry of Stilwell; her grandchildren Ruth and Mike, Lorie and Ronnie, Renee and Joel, Steven and Kathy, Tom and Stacy, Dan, Rick and Somher, Shelly, Rae and John; her great-grandchildren Jenna, Kyla, Shaquille, Karley Jo, Kristen, Marinn, Kodi and Dillon; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
    Funeral services celebrating her life were held Monday, January 28, 2002 at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Stilwell with Bro. Bill Anderson, Bro. Joe Carmean, Bro. Dick Goad and Pastor James White officiating.  Interment followed at the Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Stilwell. 

Anna Crittenden
    Funeral services for Anna Crittenden were held  on Friday, January 25, 2002 at the Christian Worship Center with Rev. Hubert Sponsler and Rev. Jimmie Varnell officiating.  Interment followed at the Ketcher Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.
    Anna Crittenden was born July 26, 1918 in the Peavine Community to Jim and Nancy (Ketcher) Crittenden.  She departed this life January 22, 2002 at Memorial Hospital in Stilwell at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 27 days.
    She was a homemaker.  Anna was a lifetime resident of the Peavine Community and attended the Christian Worship Center when her health allowed her to attend.
    Anna is survived by her children:  Sequoyah and Pat Crittenden of Wellington, Ohio; Bett and Don Ketcher of Midwest City; Mose Crittenden of Cedarville, AR; Rod and Judy Crittenden of Mesquite, TX; Moose Crittenden and Mack and Shelia Crittenden all of Stilwell; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and loved ones.
 

Ellis Handle
    Funeral services for Ellis Lee Handle, 51, of Tahlequah were held on January 29, 2002 at the Echota Baptist Church with Rev. Ellis Foster and Rev. George Teehee officiating.  Burial followed at Echota Cemetery under the direction of the Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
    Pallbearers included Jimmie Dean Wolfe, Adam Wolfe, Bird Wolfe, Eugene Handle, Adam Thirsty, Jr., and Donald Adair.
    Ellis Lee Handle was born October 13, 1950 in Adair County the son of Levi and Maggie (Adair) Handle and he passed from this life on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 in an automobile accident near Tahlequah.  He had attended school at Rocky Mountain and Cave Springs.  He served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam Conflict.  He was a member of the Echota Indian Baptist Church and had worked at Greenleaf Nursery.  
    He was preceded in death by his parents; four  uncles and two aunts.  His companion Luvina Oosahwee and step-daughter Dorene Foreman also died in the same auto accident.
    He is survived by brother Tom Levi Handle and sister Janet Handle both of Echota; step-sons Wilson Oosahwee Jr., of the home and Harold L. Foreman of Tahlequah; Uncle John Adair of Talihina; aunts Aileen Dude of Arizona, Irene Handle of Echota and Sallie Ketcher of Stilwell.  He also leaves behind may other relatives, loved ones and friends who will mourn his passing.
    A Wake Service was held on Sunday, January 27 at the Reed-Culver Funeral Home in Tahlequah. 
 

Fannie Glass
    Funeral services for Fannie Mae (Stepp) Glass were held on Saturday, January 26, 2002 at the Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Nofire and Rev. Martin Cochran officiating.  Interment followed at the Oak Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home in Stilwell.
    Fannie Mae (Stepp) Glass was born April 22, 1917 in Adair County to Chulio Stepp and Margaret Humanstriker Stepp. She departed this life on January 22, 2002 at her home in Stilwell at the age of 84 years and 9 months.
    She was married to Lynch Glass on October 6, 1936.  She was a member of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church where she served as secretary and treasurer for many years.  She also served as secretary at the Salem  Baptist Church.  She was a homemaker and loved caring for her family.  She also loved to sew, make quilts and can food.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Lynch; her parents, Chulio and Margaret Stepp; one brother; two  sisters and five infant children.
    Fannie is survived by four daughters  Corena Roastingear of Sallisaw, Mary Sevenstar, Shirley Sevenstar and husband Edmond and Mary Soap and husband Johnson all of Stilwell; one son, Lynch Glass, Jr. and wife Arlene of Farmington, New Mexico; one step-son, Joe Tom Glass of Stilwell; one brother, Williams Stepp of Elk City, Oklahoma; 24 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; a host of other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Helen Foreman
    Funeral services for Helen Dorene Foreman, 44, of Tahlequah were held on Monday, January 28, 2002 at the Cedar Tree Tabernacle with Rev. Randall Cummings officiating.  Burial followed at Bill Batt Cemetery under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
    Pallbearers included Choogie Kingfisher, Andy Tucker, Boss Cummings, J.D. Tucker, David Tucker, and Charles Tucker.  Honorary pallbearers included Johnny Smith, Albert Smith, James Odle and William Odle.
    Helen Dorene Foreman was born August 17, 1957 in Tahlequah to Avery and Lovina Jean (Wolfe) Foreman and she passed from this life in an auto accident west of Tahlequah on Wednesday, January 23.  She grew up at Rockford and attended school at Rockford and Oaks.  Dorene also attended college at Bacone.  She had lived in Cherokee County all her life and she was everyone's babysitter.  She was a member of the New Mission Baptist Church at Rockyford.
    She was preceded in death by her father and step-father Ellis Handle who died in the same auto accident.
    She is survived by two brothers Wilson Oosahwee Jr., and Harold Foreman of Tahlequah; three sisters Linda Odle, Angie Foreman and Bernadine Foreman all of Oaks; uncle Houston Foreman of Oaks.  She also leaves behind many other relatives, cousins and other loved ones and friends.
    A Wake Service was held on Sunday, January 27 at the Reed-Culver Funeral Home.

Lovina Oosahwee
    Funeral services for Lovina Jean Oosahwee, 63, of Tahlequah were held on Monday, January 28, 2002 at the Cedar Tree Tabernacle with Rev. Randall Cummings officiating.  Burial followed at Bill Batt Cemetery under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
    Pallbearers included Ed Jumper, George McLemore, Jerry Jumper, Charles Billie Hiers, Jr., Gary Webster and Danny Deckard..
    Lovina Jean Oosahwee was born February 28, 1938 in Claremore, the daughter of Jim and Betsy (Wilson) Wolfe and she passed from this life in Springdale Hospital following an auto accident west of Tahlequah on Wednesday, January 23, 2002.  Jean grew up in the Rockyford Community and attended school at Rockford and Oaks.  She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, was church secretary at New Mission Baptist Church at Rockford and was a frequent visitor at many of the area churches.  She was known as Grandma to many of the youth.  
     She was preceded in death by husband Wilson Oosahwee;  parents;  her companion Ellis Handle and daughter Dorene Foreman who both died in the same auto accident.
    She is survived by  sons Wilson Oosahwee Jr., and Harold L. Foreman of Tahlequah; two grandchildren Stephanie Lynn (Raymond) Philpott and Charles Billie Hiers, Jr.,; her uncle Jim Wilson of Pryor.  She also leaves behind five grandchildren along with many other relatives, loved ones and friends. 
    A Wake Service was held on Sunday, January 27 at the Reed-Culver Funeral Home.

Rev. Welcome Nix
    Rev. Welcome Thorton Nix, 84, of Van Buren, Arkansas passed away on Friday, January 25, 2002.
    He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a Southern Baptist minister and a member of the Van Buren First Baptist Church.
    He is preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Marie Nix.
    Rev. Nix is survived by his wife Mildred Nix of the home; three daughters, Evelyn Scott of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Linda Joanne Polly of Killeen, Texas and Bonnie Lee Haag of Van Buren; one son  William Henry Nix of Van Buren; two sisters, Jessie Brown of Fresno, California, Willie Mae Moore of Cullman, Alabama; 25 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
    Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 29 at Van Buren First Baptist Church.  Interment followed at Ewing Chapel Cemetery in Stilwell, Oklahoma under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren, Arkansas.  Pallbearers were Daniel Adams, David Wright, Emmitt Hampton, Andy Scott, and Scotty Scott.  Honorary Pallbearers were Dr. Wendall Ross, Richard Pickup and all ministers.
