John L. Karasek, 81, died May 8, 1998.
Born in Cleveland, he had been a resident of Hinckley for most of his
life, where he was a farmer. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Preceded in death by brother, James Karasek; and sister, Rose Karasek,
he is survived by his wife of 58 years, Katherine; sister, Emily Schanz
of Florida; brother, Joseph Karasek of Parma Heights; sister-in-law, Eva
Guerra of Copley Township; five nieces, and five nephews.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. SUNDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel,

Rose Hengstenberger, 78, died Friday, May 8, 1998.
She was born in Akron and was a sales associate for Bon-Ton Fashions.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and an active member of the

Preceded in death by husband, Joseph, she is survived by sons, Gary
(Carroll) of Uniontown and Eric (Theresa) of Copley; daughter, JoEllen
Hengstenberger of Akron; sisters, Helen Bailey of Akron and Mary (John)
Luber of Strongsville; grandchildren, Scott, Kelly, and Erica.

A. David Groves, 58, formerly of Tallmadge, passed away May 6, 1998,
after a long illness.
He is survived by daughters, Gina Miller and Lisa Yauchzee; four grandchildren

CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Leo H. Conroy, 79, died May 7, 1998.
Mr. Conroy was born in Akron and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls the
past 23 years, moving there from Akron. He retired in 1981 as a machinist
for the Mechanical Mold & Machine Co., was a member of St. Joseph's
Catholic Church, and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth; daughter and son-in-law,
Patricia and Robert Rottler of Southington, Conn.; son, Thomas E. of Portland,
Ore.; daughter, Eileen Conroy and her husband, Michael McHugh, of Arvada,
Colo.; son, Paul of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kevin, and
Laura Rottler, and John, Caitlin, and Anna McHugh.

Cletus H. Swords
KENMORE -- Cletus H. Swords 72, of Akron, passed away May 7, 1998.
Mr. Swords was born in Kenmore and lived in the area all of his life.
He was retired from the Falls Sheet Metal Works. He was a life member of
Park United Methodist Church, had been a Boy Scout and Scout leader for
more than 60 years, was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes,
was past president of the Kenmore Chapter AARP 3592, was a member Sheet
Metal Union Local 33, the Kenmore Community Council, and was responsible
for the building of the Kenmore Gazebo. He had been a coach, and coached
the championship girls baseball team for Park United Methodist Church.
He is survived by wife, Violet; daughters, Christine (Frank) Buza of
Akron, Catherine (Kenneth) Shillingburg of Akron, Phyllis (Randy) Swords
Nicholson of Akron; son, Carl (Christy) of Green; sister, Lois (Dave) Baer
of Green; brother, Gerald (Arlene) of Akron; nine grandchildren and one

Candace Sue Smith went home to be with the Lord after a sudden death.
She was born in Akron and lived here all her life. Those who knew her
knew what a beautiful person she was.
She was preceded in death by her mother, JoAnn Smith ``98''; father,
James L. Smith ``86''; and sister, Helen. She is survived by her children,
Barry Arp and Anthony ``Tony'' W. Arp, Jeff L. Brown, and Leanne D. Arp;
brothers, Jamie (Edie) and Motor; sisters, Nancy and JoDee. She had 10
beautiful grandchildren, including special grandson, Stephen.

Jane M. Green, 81 years, of Akron, died May 17, 1998 at her residence
after a short illness.
Born in Akron, she was an area resident most of her life. Jane was
a graduate of St. Vincent High School, a former member of St. Vincent Church
and presently a member of St. Matthews Church. She and her late husband,
F. G. (Joe) Green were former owners of Maca Swim Park in Tallmadge.
Survivors include her daughters and their spouses, Lynne and John Loewing
of Shakopee, Minn., Nancy Hiner of Portage Lakes, Valerie Taylor of Greenville,
S.C., and Mary Ellen and Tim Neitz of Cuyahoga Falls; sister, Mary Murty
of Akron; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

AKRON/WADSWORTH -- Dorothy P. ``Dutch'' Rudolph, 71, died Monday, May
4, 1998, at the Hospice Care Center.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Miss Rudolph resided in Wadsworth 15 years,
previously residing in Akron. She was an elementary teacher at St. Sebastian
Parochial School in Akron for 15 years, retiring in 1983.
Miss Rudolph is survived by brother and sister-in-law, John and Dorothy
Rudolph of Wadsworth; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by parents, Simon and Juliet Rudolph; sisters, Miriam McGregor, Juliet
O'Neil and Katherine Cook; and niece, Colleen Cook.

Carrie Mitchell, 90, went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 1998,
at Akron General Center, after a brief illness.
Born in Birmingham, Ala., she had lived in this community since 1922.
She had been employed at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., retiring in 1971.
She was a member of Arlington Church of God, sang in the choir, and a member
of Joy Park Seniors.
She is survived by devoted daughter, Valeria (Adolph) Robinson; brothers,
Jasper and Rufus Mitchell, all of Akron; 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren,
one great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other
relatives and friends.

Janice R. McClure, 60, died May 9, 1998.
Born in Akron, she had lived for most of her life in the Akron area;
the last 20 years in Green. She loved antiques and formerly operated an
antique shop in North Canton. She enjoyed reading and loved her dogs.
Preceded in death by her parents, William and Queena McKissick; and
sister, Judy Leary, she is survived by her daughter, Shelly McClure of
Green; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Olive McKissick of Uniontown,
and Richard and Shirley McKissick of Queen Creek, Ariz.; brother-in-law,
Frank Leary of Clinton; nieces, Traci Leary of Clinton, Susan McKissick

Darles B. Kreakie (Sarge), 69, died May 8, 1998, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Kreakie served with the U. S. Marine Corps for over 22 years, and
was a member of Ralph Huff Post 1062 and Eagles 1027.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy; daughter, Darla Hoebeke of Anaheim,
Calif.; sister, Wilda Volchko of Brunswick; and brother, Terry of Kent.

Romaine W. Hutchings, 80, died May 8, 1998.
He was a lifetime resident of Akron. Mr. Hutchings was retired from
the U. S. Postal Service with 23 years of service, and was a member of
the Loyalty Masonic Lodge 645, F&AM. He was a U. S. Army Air Corps
veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Airborne 509 Paratroopers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances L., and is survived by
son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Lynn of Akron; daughter and son-in-law,
Janis Dee and Jeremy Beale of Chester Springs, Pa.; grandsons, Christopher
and Kyle Hutchings; mother, Gayle Hutchings of Akron.

Chester ``Chet'' F. Eshbaugh, 75, passed away May 8, 1998, at the Arbors
He worked for Goodyear Aerospace and Loral for 34 years. He served
his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Washington.
He loved to walk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lula Eshbaugh;
previous wife, Pauline; brother, William Eshbaugh; and sister, Marita Wood.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Burley Eshbaugh; stepson and guardian,
Don Johns; stepdaughter, Donna Best, all of Cuyahoga Falls; and stepdaughter,
Vivian Kraus of Mogadore.

Ralph F. Crown, 89, passed away May 8, 1998, at Akron General Medical
Retired from B. F. Goodrich, Mr. Crown had lived in Florida for 26
years before returning to Wadsworth in 1996. He was an active member of
the Lockwood United Methodist Church. A member of the Portage Lakes Lodge
752, he was a 32nd Degree Mason with a 50-year membership in the Scottish
Preceded in death by his brother, Victor Crown; grandson, Teddy Crown;
and sister-in-law, Katherine (Gron) Crown, he is survived by his wife of
61 years, Ethel (Gron) Crown; son, Clifford H. (Sandra) Crown; granddaughter,
Tamara, all of Tennessee; sisters-in-law, Jane Gron of Fairlawn, Helen
(Donald) Cox of Sharon Center, Jean (Edward) Watring of Florida, Marjorie

TALLMADGE -- John ``Pudge'' Cirullo, 79, passed away May 8, 1998, at
his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Clarksburg, W. Va., he lived in the Tallmadge area for the
past 40 years. Mr. Cirullo served in the 504th Airborne Division of the
U. S. Army during World War II, and was a member of Iron Worker's Local
17 for 50 years.
Preceded in death by his grandson, John III; and infant great-granddaughter,
Kirsten Senn, he is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons and daughters-in-law,
John Jr. and Emma of Tallmadge, George and Gloria of Hartville; daughter

WADSWORTH -- Leda P. Birow, 83, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at Altercare
of Wadsworth, after a six-month illness.
Mrs. Birow was born in Wadsworth, where she resided 15 years, previously
residing in Copley and Akron. She was an assistant at Akron Veterinary
for four years, and previously employed at the Ohio Match Co. She and her
husband raised and bred Airedales, and were 50-year members of the Rubber
City Kennel Club. She also enjoyed reading.
Mrs. Birow is survived by husband, Steve; brother and sister-in-law,
Peter and Joy Presznick of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Gloria E. Birow
of Los Angeles; nephew, and great-nieces and -nephew. She was preceded
in death by brother, Joe.
