James L. Valentine
MUNROE FALLS -- James L. Valentine, 68, died November 29, 1998.
Born in Grantsville, W.Va., he was preceded in death by his parents,
Homer and Noma Barker of Pullman, W. Va and sister, Helen Harris. He is
survived by his loving caretaker and cousin, Carol Suchan, whom he lived
with for 18 years and her loving family, Gerri (Keith) Pinsoneault, Tammi
(Tom) Seever, Ron (Wendy) Talcott Jr., Mark (Debbie) Suchan; loving cousins,
Nathan, Eric, Lauren, Brett and Taylor. Jimmy was loved by many friends
at The Falls Country Kitchen, Weaver Workshop, Campees at Atwood Lake and
sisters, Juna Cutlip and May Fluharty.
Friends may call at the Redmon Funeral Home, Wednesday from 6 to 9
P.M. where Rev. Ross Neil will conduct service Thursday at 11 A.M. Burial

Emma I. Tuttle
Emma I. Tuttle, 81, of Medina, died November 27, 1998 following a brief
illness.
Born in Akron to the late George and Anna Oncu, she lived in Valley
City until 1997, moving then to Medina. A retired school teacher, Mrs.
Tuttle was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she served as
greeter for many years and was a member of The Lady's Organization holding
the office of president of many years.
Survived by brother, George (Nancy) Oncu of Valley City; two nieces;
two great nieces; one great nephew; and cousin, George (Florence) Krisan
of Akron; and preceded in death by husband, Leslie E. in 1985.

Philip Newell Thomas
Philip Newell Thomas, 64 years, of Akron, died Nov. 29, 1998.
Born in Johnson City, Tn., Phil was a graduate of the University of
Virginia with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for the A.
Schulman Co. here in Akron and later had his own business, Thomas Consulting.
Survived by his wife of 44 years, Mildred; he is survived by daughter,
Wanda Lee (Michael) O'Connell; son, Philip Lee Thomas, all of Akron; brothers,
Lowell Thomas of Sterling Park, Va., Michael Thomas of Salisbury, N.C.,
Lawrence Thomas of Lexington Park, Md.; sister, Catherine Thomas of Melbourne,
Fla.; three granddaughters, Chrisann, LeeAnn and Melisssa O'Connell.

Ernest Stephen Theiss
KENT -- Ernest Stephen Theiss, 88, of S.R. 43, Twin Lakes, died Sunday,
Nov. 2, 1998 at Maple Wood Care Centre in Streetsboro.
He was born May 16, 1910 in Detroit, Mich. to Stephan and Mary (Kloos)
Theiss. He graduated from Case Institute of Technology with a Master's
Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1939. He was Professor of Civil Engineering
at Duke University from 1939 until 1946. Mr. Theiss was employed at Davey
Compressor from 1946 until 1956. He was employed at NRM Corp. in Tallmadge
from 1956 until his retirement in 1975. He also worked as a private consultant
with Engineering Translation Society Associated. He appeared in Who's Who
in Technology in 1982. He was a donor to the Kent Historical Society. Mr.
Theiss was the author of five books, primarily in plastics, extrusion and
air compression. He held a patent concerning Cast-in Heater for Extrusion
Cylinder. He had been a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers
since 1931 and was honored for 50 years at the meeting in San Francisco.
For more than 50 years he was a member of various Masonic groups including
The Black Fez; ``Al Sirat Grotto'', the Grand Lodge of Ohio F&AM and
M.O.V.P.E.R.-Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Republican National
Committee, the Alliance of Transylvanian Saxons, Twin Lakes Country Club
and the German Family Society of Akron.
Survivors include his wife, Irmgard (Feigl), whom he married December
12, 1980; and stepdaughter, Christine (Hans) Hansing-Scholz of Kassel,
Germany. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gustav.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the
Bissler & Sons Funeral Home where funeral services will be held 10:30
a.m. Thursday with Pastor Victor A. Myers officiating. Burial will be in
Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.
Ruth E. Sulentich
Ruth E. Sulentich, 82, passed away Nov. 29, 1998 at Essex Health Care.
She was born April 22, 1916 in Akron.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane (Marvin) Fisher;
son and daughter-in-law, Jerry (Susan) Sulentich; sister, Ethel Dority;
grandchildren, Sherilyn, Steven, William, Marie, Margaret, Denzil, Elizabeth
and Patricia; 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Samuel Sulentich, and a sister, Lillian Conaway.

Tina M. Strauss
Tina M. Strauss, 92, went to be with the Lord Nov. 29, 1998.
Mrs. Strauss spent most of her life in Erie, Pa., and lived with her
daughter in Akron for the past year and a half. She was retired from Rea
& Dereck and although she was not a member of a local church, she did
have a strong love for the Lord.
Preceded in death by her husband, Harry in 1992; son, Gale; parents,
Harry and Anna; sisters, Mable Mills and Helen Spaulding; and brother,
Raymond Reynolds; she is survived by sons, Harry J. (Delores) of Floral
City, Fla., and John A. (Charlene) of Akron; Patricia M. Bonsteel of Norton,
Joyce A. Seger of Akron, Susan R. (Oliver) Whaley of Tempe, Ariz., and
Carol Lee (Orestes) Almeida of York, Pa.; two adopted daughters, Pamela

Bessie Nidy Somers, 95, passed away Nov. 29, 1998.
Born in Lakemore, Ohio, she was a local resident most of her life,
very active in the Cleveland Opera Company singing lead for many years.
She was active in the Girl Scouts, was a former member of High Street Church
of Christ, and was employed at the M. O'Neil Co. in retail sales.
Preceded in death by son, Douglas and wife Wanda; grandson, Douglas;
she is survived by her son, Gilbert N. (Yvonne) Somers; nine grandchildren;
and 19 great grandchildren.

Mary E. Sboray, 92, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998 at Akron City Hospital.
She was born in Cambridge, Ohio and had been an Akron resident for
over 75 years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
and the Altar and Rosary Society.
Mrs. Sboray was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen in 1969;
daughter, Christine Smith; brothers, Charles and John Gresh; and sisters,
Vivian Kaluscak, Helen Kraynak and Julia Stepic; and is survived by her
sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Mary of Roanoke, Va., Edward and

Alexander (Alex) C. Romas
Alexander (Alex) C. Romas, 73, passed away Nov. 29, 1998 following
a courageous battle with a lengthy illness.
Mr. Romas's parents immigrated to the U.S. from Romania in 1912 and
he was born in Lorain, Ohio on July 23, 1925. He resided in the City of
Green since 1969. Mr. Romas served in the U.S. Navy on a submarine in the
Pacific during World War II. After the war, he served in the U.S. Marine
Reserves. In 1952, he joined the Akron Police Department, rising to the
rank of detective. Mr. Romas suffered an injury on the job and retired
on disability in 1968.
Mr. Romas is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Minnie (Unger)
Romas; brothers, Louis, Raymond, and William; sister, Edith. He will be
greatly missed by his wife of 51 years, Delilah; children, Charles (Jill)
Romas of Naples Fla., Randy (Colleen) Romas of Jackson Township, Sharon
Romas of Green, Karen (Mark) Humphrey of Akron, Randy (Tammy) Yates of
Uniontown; sisters and brother-in-laws, Jenny and Lee Taylor of Akron,

Marian Louise Richardson
Marian Louise Richardson, 79, of Floral City, Fla., died Thursday,
Nov. 26, 1998 at Mariner Health of Inverness.
Born in Akron, on April 21, 1919 to the late Thurman and Evelyn Simmons,
she came here 11 years ago from Stow, Ohio. Mrs. Richardson was a homemaker,
an avid traveler, and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish.
Surviving are her husband, William Thomas Richardson, Jr., one son,
Lawrence Lee Richardson of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Mary Lou Malloy
of Austintown, Mary Lou Boylan of Stow, and Joan Claire Phillips of Brimfield;
and six grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass for Marian Louise Richardson will be offered on Friday,
December 4, 1998 at 11 a.m. from the Kent Catholic Church on Depister Street
in Kent, Ohio.

Dorothy (Sobitz) Prunari, born Sept. 27, 1919, passed into eternity
Nov. 28, 1998.
Dorothy and her husband operated the Madison Ave. and Fairlawn Plaza
Shoe Repair for many years, retiring in 1980. Dorothy had been attending
Perry Baptist Church.
Beloved wife of Terry Prunari, and mother of Lynn (James) Messenger;
she will be sorely missed by sisters, Violet Sobitz, Catherine (Al) Emich,
and Mary Ann Sobitz; brother, Tim Sobitz; friend, Heloise Gates; sister-in-law,
Barbara Sobitz; and many nieces, nephews, grandniece, and grandnephews.
Preceded in death by parents, Wesley and Katy, and brothers, Wesley and

Robert Miller
Robert Miller, 61, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 28, 1998.
Robert was born in Kenmore, Ohio on April 20, 1937. Mr. Miller was
employed by Goodyear Research as a Master Technician in their chemical
division for the past 15 years, and 30 years for the Goodyear Company,
where he enjoyed working. Robert was a faithful member of the Community
Church of Portage Lakes, where he served the Lord for 23 years as a Sunday
School teacher for Junior Church and for adult classes, softball coach
for church youth, Stockade leader from 1980 to 1998, and Chief Ranger for
Stockade from 1986 to 1998. He had a love for the outdoors and was an avid
gardener.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, Beulah
and Loyd Miller, and brothers, Newman, Audry, Otis, Don and Larry. He is
survived by his wife of 30 years, Laura; daughter, Cathey and Bill Buffington;
son, Bobby Miller; brother, Dallas and Erma of Denver; and Anita (Larry's
wife); nieces and nephews, Pastor Jim, Paul, Betsy, Ellen, Christine, Tim,
David, and Dan; nephews, Matthew and Michael; and many loving friends.

John E. McNichol
John E. McNichol passed away after a lengthy illness.
He was retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. Mr. McNichol served
valiantly in World War II, attached to the Army Corp of Engineers and was
honorably discharged having served four years in the European Theatre of
War, received many metals, a true hero.
He is survived by beloved and devoted wife, Elsie (nee Lanni) McNichol;
loving sons, Gregory of Chicago and Dennis of Tallmadge; two grandsons,
Christopher and Michael; step-brothers, David and Robert McNichol.
A private mass was held at Annunciation Church with burial at Oakwood
Cemetery.

Brian M. Adrian, 19, died Dec. 3, 1998.
Brian worked for Spitzer Chevrolet in Northfield as a detail person,
was born and lived his life in Akron, and attended North High School.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Betsy Adrian of Akron; brother,
Joe Adrian of Akron; grandparents, Margaret Considine of Akron and Iris
Dudo of Stow; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Thomas J. Karg
Thomas J. Karg, 64 years, of Akron, died November 30, 1998 at his home.
Tom was a life resident of Akron and graduated from St. Sebastian Grade
School (1948), St. Vincent High School, and attended Xavier University
and Kent State University. After working for his father's company, Karg
Corporation, he founded the T.J. Karg Co. in 1974. Tom was a life member
of St. Sebastian Church and a member and current President of its St. Vincent
DePaul Society for the past 37 years. He was very devoted to the poor.
Tom was an avid golfer and tennis player.
Preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Ann; he is survived by his
sons and daughter-in-law, Thomas Dempsey and Katy Karg, and William J.
Karg, all of Akron; daughters and son-in-law, Margaret Karg of Reminderville,
Ohio, Maryann and Gilbert Neal of Naperville, Ill.; brothers, James F.

Anne J. Eshack died Dec. 5, 1998. She was 88 years old.
Anne was a life resident of Akron, and retired from the Summit County

two daughters, Christine Carter and Sandra Jacobson of Atlanta, Ga.; granddaughter,

Willie Belle Jackson (Weems)
Willie Belle Jackson answered the call of her Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ and went home to be with Him on Wednesday, November 25, 1998, after
a short but courageous bout with cancer. Her eternal transition occurred
at Bridgepark Nursing Center at the age of 80 years.

Patricia Gill McKinstry
Patricia Gill McKinstry passed away Dec. 27, 1998.
She was the daughter of James and Margaret Gill (deceased). Pat was
born July 4, 1927, and loved celebrating her birthday with everyone.
She leaves her wonderful husband, John; most precious daughter, Peggy
McKinstry Campbell of New York City; and her sisters and brothers-in-law,
Mary and Bill Strabic, Frances and Joe Siegferth, and Barbara and Don Howard;
sister-in-law, Eve and husband, Dick Wagner; many nieces and nephews. She
also leaves her many Kappa sisters and her children, their parents, and
staff at the Learning Centre.
Pat was a graduate of the University of Akron and was a Kappa Kappa
Gamma. She served as president of the Alumnae Association and president
of Lambda House Board. She taught in Akron, Riverside, and Edgewater Park,
N.J., and for the past eight years had tutored at the Learning Centre of
Akron.

Opal Hartman
WADSWORTH -- Opal Hartman, 85, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998 at Rittman
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Akron, Mrs. Hartman resided in Wadsworth 47 years previously
residing in Rittman. She was a member of Mt. Zwingli United Church of Christ
where she was organist for over 26 years. She was also a member of Woman's
Guild, Ladies Aid, Wadsworth Grange, Keynote Singers and taught piano for
over 50 years.
Mrs. Hartman is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, John and Helen
of Rittman, Donald and Mary Kay of Wadsworth; daughter and son-in-law,

James E. Hardy, 68, of Akron died Nov. 28, 1998.
Mr. Hardy was born in Akron, was a life long resident and member of
the Suffield Fellowship Church. For 15 yrs. he was a building manager for
the Summit Management Co.
He is survived by wife, Evelyn to whom he was married 49 yrs.; daughter,
Donna Motes; sons and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Diane, James Jr. and
Kathi, Edwin and Linda, Charles, Jerry and Connie; sister, Dorothy Glover
of Hasting, Mich.; brother, Otis Hardy of N. Miami, Fla.; 14 grandchildren;
six great grandchildren; special nieces, Peggy Hoffman and Juanita Hall;
also survived by other nieces and nephews.

Lavonna Jennie Froelich (nee Clark)
Lavonna Jennie Froelich (nee Clark), 90, died Nov. 30, 1998. Mrs. Froelich
was born in Kent and resided in Cincinnati for the past 51 yrs. She was
a graduate of North High School in January 1928, had attended Hammel Actual
Business College, and had been part owner of Froelich Construction Co.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Charles Thomas Ingersoll and Harold
Froelich; parents, Homer and Olive Clark; and brothers, Homer and Allen
Clark; and is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Carol Ingersoll
of Cuyahoga Falls, Charles and Ruth Ingersoll of Buena, Calif.; two grandchildren;
two great grandchildren; sisters in-law, Virginia (George) Jones of Amherst,
and Shirley Clark of Minnosta; and good friend Fern Moore of Cincinnati.
There will be no local calling hours or services. Final resting place Spring
Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati.
Lawrence ``Bud'' E. Fraley
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Lawrence ``Bud'' E. Fraley, 75, died Nov. 29, 1998.
Mr. Fraley was born in Terra Alta, W. Va., and had resided in Cuyahoga
Falls since 1945 moving there from Pennsylvania. He retired in 1978 from
the electrical department at the City of Cuyahoga Falls, and had previously
worked for the American Fireworks. He was a veteran of World War II, serving
with the U.S. Army, and was a life member of VFW Ralph Huff Post 1062.
He was also a member of the American Legion Charles Faust Post 281, the
AARP, and had attended the New Apostolic Church of Mogadore.
He was preceded in death by his daughter and son in-law, Lucia and
James Mura; survived by daughters, Linda Wilson of Akron, and Diana Young
of Cuyahoga Falls; sons and daughters in-laws, James ``Duke'' and Theresa
of Cuyahoga Falls, Karl and Janice of Streetsboro; daughter and son in-law,
Lisa and Raymond Smith of Weirton, W. Va. He was beloved grandfather of
John, Gary (Jodi), Shane, Travis, Tracy, Michael, Amy, Jimmy, Jeffery,
Sarah, and John; great grandfather of Brieanna; also survived by brother,
Warren (Buck) Fraley of Macedonia; loving companion, Irene Nitzsche; and
his special friend, Bob Schmidt.

Joseph C. Ellison passed away suddenly Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998 after
a lengthy illness.
Born in Franklinville, N.C. he had been a resident of Akron since 1945.
He was employed by B.F. Goodrich for 28 yrs. retiring in 1973.
Mr. Ellison is survived by wife of 50 yrs., Freda; daughter, Carol
(Ronald) Husk of Akron; granddaughter, Melissa (Mark) Poston; grandson,
Ronald C. Husk; most cherished great grandson, Colin Poston; also survived
by four sisters.

A lifetime resident of the area. Nancy had been employed as office
manager for Tallmadge Agency for the past 13 yrs. And bowled at Twin Star
Lanes for many years.
She is survived by husband, Rex; sons, Steven Ingersol, Christopher
Ingersol, Justin Robinson, Ryan Robinson, all of Kent; stepmother, Jean

PORTAGE LAKES -- Lewis H. Schmidt, 81, went home to with the Lord on
Dec. 5, 1998.
He had been a resident of Akron for 60 years. He was a member of the
Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He retired from
B.F. Goodrich, and was a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by wife, Edna; sons, Denny Schmidt of North Carolina,
David Schmidt of Akron; daughter, Diane Tetwiler of Akron; six grandchildren,
11 great-grandchildren.

Harold G. Brock
TEXAS -- Harold Goodyear Brock, formerly of Akron, died Saturday, Nov.
28, 1998, in Austin, Texas.
Mr. Brock was born in Lakewood, Ohio, on Oct. 28, 1910. His family
moved to Akron when he was a young boy, and he graduated from old West
High School in 1928. He began working for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber
Company in 1937, retiring in 1972 with 35 years of service. He had a great
interest in astronomy and served for seven years as president of the Astronomy
Club of Akron in the 1960's. He also contributed a monthly astronomy column
to the Akron Beacon Journal for several years.
Mr. Brock was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Agnes; brother,
Clarence Brock, and granddaughter, Melissa Kuffler. He is survived by his
daughter and son-in-law, Sally and James Spigelmire of Austin, Texas; son
and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Kathy Brock of Holland, Ohio; daughter and
son-in-law, Betty and Martin Simons of Austin, Texas; 11 grandchildren,
14 great-grandchildren; niece, Barbara Morehouse of Peninsula, Ohio; and
dear family friend, Pearl Huff of Akron.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 3, 1998, at Bethany
Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas, Pastor Walter W. Harms officiating. In
